Prompt 8: The End of the World As We Know It: catastrophic disaster that results in mass death and destruction on a global scale.(bonus)
Tony looked through the window at the setting sun. Steve stood behind him, his hand resting comfortingly on Tony's shoulder, a strong presence to lean back against.
"You know, I never thought it would just… end," Tony murmured.
"It might not, yet," Steve replied softly. "It might miss us."
"Unlikely, but possible I suppose," Tony conceded. "Still, it's weird to think about. I always thought the world would end in a war, not a meteor."
Steve nodded, because if he was being honest, he'd thought the same thing. Humanity was the most destructive force on earth, after all.
"How long until—"
"About three hours," Tony replied softly. "If it doesn't hit within seven, it's missed us."
Steve nodded. "Well, how do you want to spend our possible last hours on earth?"
Tony looked up at him and wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, making Steve laugh, but then shook his head.
"I think… I think I want to grab some snacks from the kitchen and then go and sit on the sofa and cuddle."
Smiling, Steve dropped his hand to Tony's hip. "We can do that."
…
Tony leant into Steve's side, pressing his face against Steve's broad chest. Despite the bubbling fear of the end of the world, he felt calm and relaxed.
Steve always made him feel that way.
He listened to the steady heartbeat and pressed closer when Steve rubbed a hand up and down his side.
"Shall we watch a movie?" Steve offered quietly.
Tony nodded. "You choose. Pick one from your list, hmm?"
He didn't care what they watched. He was happy where he was.
…
The clock on the wall marked nine minutes past eleven, and Tony sighed. Three minutes away from three hours.
"I love you, you know."
Steve chuckled. "I do know. Just as you know I love you."
Tony nodded. "Just checking."
"If it happens, you don't need to worry, I'll find you."
Looking up at Steve, Tony smiled. "I believe you."
"And if—"
…
Heimdall looked at Thor sadly. "I am sorry, Sir."
