The sun has rise and lowered over the land many times, and now Littlefoot and his friends were further inland as they marched south. And they are now hiking through a rocky landscape, as they have been on the move for almost a month.
What kept them going was the endless search for food and water, and for a new home and keeping their hopes up. And every few nights they were able to cover more ground as Littlefoot leads them on.
And with migrating experience, Ali also helped out as well, as even Scar. Scar came from a migrating herd, and he once lived in a distant forest to the far north. But when it gets cold, his herd marches south. And whenever the group was traveling through the night, he showed them a skill that he was taught. By using the moon and the stars as a guide, Scar was able to help get them around.
And this landscape is actually familiar to Scar as his herd took for many generations. As in the moment, along with Littlefoot was leading them.
They left the desert terrain behind them, but like any other herd, they've been marching on their stomachs. And their now running on empty.
It's been days since their last proper meal. And now hunger beginning to take effect.
Soon, it was getting to Spike as he was at the back of the group and was slowly lagging behind from hunger.
"Doing okay, Spike?" Ducky asked.
Spike then turns to her as his stomach growled.
"I know, I am hungry too." Ducky said.
"Boy, I'm so hungry." Cera said. "When are we gonna find some food?"
"I don't know, Cera." Ali said. "But we have to keep going."
They continued marching as then something started to appear in view.
"Hey." Littlefoot said.
They then quicken their pace as they near some shrubs.
At last, a tiny oasis of green in the barren landscape.
Relieved, the group begins to eat as there was enough for them.
Littlefoot and his friends get their reward for fighting their way so far. As few young dinosaurs their age rarely make it this long on their own. But as long as they don't have the protection of grown ups, they are still vulnerable.
Soon they were able to eat their fill, and continued on through the landscape.
An hour later, they continued south as the sky became gray with dark clouds as just to the west of them. They were unaware there is a continental tectonic plate collision that is forming a new mountain range. As this could their most dangerous part of the journey.
They continued on as volcanic lightning flashed through the air as ash covers the sky.
They continued marching as some rocks were seen ahead of them, but then Scar noticed them and realized they were too familiar.
"Guys, stop!" Scar quickly said.
"What's wrong?" Littlefoot asked.
"I know that place just ahead of us." Scar said.
"What is it?" Patchi asked.
"The last time I was here, my herd was attacked by sharpteeth." Scar said.
"Oh, dear." Petrie said. "What we do now?"
"Is there any way we can go around?" Sally asked.
"I don't think so." Scar said.
"But if we go that way, we'll get eaten." Cera said.
"Hang on, let me fly ahead and take a look." Alex said.
Alex then flies off ahead as they waited. After a few minutes, he soon came back.
"Well, what's over there?" Shorty said.
"No sharpteeth around." Alex said.
"Are you sure?" Blue asked.
"Yes. I checked all possible ambush spots." Alex said.
"Well, we better keep moving." Littlefoot said. "Stay close and alert."
Within a few minutes, they soon pass by the rocks but still had all senses firing at peak strength. They remained quietly as they kept an eye out.
The last time Scar's herd was heard, a large pack of Albertosaurus once waited here. But it seems that a recent eruption had forced them to leave. But they can never be too careful.
They continued marching quietly as then suddenly thudding footsteps was heard as Cera made a double glance and realized what she saw.
"Huh?" Cera's eyes widen as everyone turned to her.
Then suddenly they all screamed in fear as an Albertosaurus appeared and growled heavily drooling and skinny from hunger. The Albertosaurus growled and strikes, as Littlefoot and Cera quickly sidestepped just missing the jaws as it hits the ground.
"WHOA!" Patchi yelled.
"Run!" Buck yelled.
They then took off running as the Albertosaurus recovers from the hit and shook his head, and then roars as he looks to the running group. And then he chased after them.
"Oh, yeah!" Cera yelled. "This was a good plan!"
They continued running as the Albertosaurus was right behind them.
At the lip of the nearby volcano, signs of life begin to appear.
Then suddenly, an explosion of ash erupts as some gathered into a monstrous cascade of water, rock and ash. And it quickly floods down the mountain in a rift.
Below, Littlefoot and the others were still running for their lives as the Albertosaurus was still behind them.
As they ran, Ruby suddenly saw a tree ahead of them with a flaming branch.
"Cera, you think you can hit that tree?!" Ruby yelled.
Cera soon saw the tree, and then quickly rushed towards it, and then rams the tree as it shook.
The shaking was enough to cause the branch to get loose, and broke off as it fell and hits the neck of the Albertosaurus as he tripped and hits the ground. Littlefoot glanced back as they kept running.
Soon, the Albertosaurus was able to get to his feet and then roars out and continues chasing them.
Littlefoot and his friends continue running as they soon saw the Albertosaurus, they kept running as they soon saw a ledge that is too high for the Albertosaurus to reach them.
"Come on!" Littlefoot yelled. "This way!"
They quickly made a run for it.
They soon got to the ledge as Ducky, Petrie, Amber, Scat, Shyler, Ruby, Alex, Flapper, Sally, Blue and Ali quickly made it up. Scar quickly made a leap up to the ledge, but slipped down as Littlefoot helped push Crusty up the hill as Amber pulled him up.
But soon, the Albertosaurus arrived as Littlefoot, Cera, Scar, Patchi, Scowler, Juniper, Shorty, Buck, Blaze, Spike and Dink were now cornered. And the Albertosaurus roars out and was ready snatch one of them if they tried to make a run for it.
But then Littlefoot noticed something and was fast approaching.
"Go, go, go, go, go!" Littlefoot yelled.
They then quickly climbed up the ledge as the Albertosaurus stalks towards them, and they quickly made it in time.
Then suddenly, the wave of ash washed in and soon carries the Albertosaurus away as it roars out. As Littlefoot and his friends remained on their ledge as the ash-mixed water floods by them.
They have battled through adversity once more.
The next morning, Littlefoot and his friends were asleep on the ledge as everything was all quiet. And it wasn't long before they all started to wake up.
But the first thing they noticed, was that the river of ash-mixed water was all still. And then they saw it was solid rock as if the flow has set like concrete.
"Huh. It looks all hard like frozen water." Ducky said.
Petrie then went the edge, and then taps on it testing it's hardness.
"It feels rock hard." Petrie said.
Then, Littlefoot took a brave step forward and walks onto the harden surface as the others followed him as soon as they realized it was safe to walk on.
They soon continued on alone. But not for too long.
Then suddenly, a bellow was heard nearby. And it sounded more of that of a leaf-eater's.
They then hurried to the direction where they heard, as they soon came upon an Edmontosaurus that Littlefoot recognized.
"Young'un, you're alive!" Edmaa said.
"Edmaa!" Littlefoot said relieved.
"Wait, wait." Cera said. "You know her?"
"Oh, I met her a day before Ali arrived." Littlefoot explained.
"Well you young'uns sure are lucky to last out here for so long." Edmaa said. "I suggest we get moving now."
They then begin to follow Edmaa.
Some distance away, nearby an old enemy refuses to lie down and die.
The Albertosaurus from yesterday lies motionless on the ground, but soon he wakes up as he was still alive. And then he gets to his feet.
Hours later, it was now night as the group of voyagers were still marching through the volcanic landscape.
And soon, Edmaa stopped for a moment and catches her breath.
"Are you okay, Edmaa?" Littlefoot said.
"I'm fine." Edmaa assured. "Not as young as I used to be. We sure should fine some where to rest for the night."
After a few minutes, they found a large boulder to shelter by the wind. And the y near it as they begin to lay down and rest for the night. But as Scar tries to find a spot, he accidentally stepped on a loose rock and slipped and hits the ground.
"You okay?" Amber asked.
"Yeah." Scar assured.
Scar soon found a spot and lies down to rest, but was unaware that the fall as left a scratch on him. And was slowly dripping blood.
Miles behind them, the snout of the Albertosaurus lowers down to the ground and sniffs the trail of footprints.
The next day, the group continues on through the landscape.
But back by the boulder, soft growling was heard as a predatory snout lowers down and sniffs dry patch of blood on the ground left from Scar. And was still relatively fresh.
Meanwhile, Littlefoot and his friends continue on through the barren land.
But unaware that their about to have some unwelcome company.
Some distance behind them, the Albertosaurus has finally tracked them down and was charging full speed towards them.
Littlefoot and his friends continued marching, but then he suddenly had a feeling they were being followed. He then looked back and saw the Albertosaurus and gasped.
"Run!" Littlefoot yelled.
He quickly runs off as they others were confused and look back, and then saw the Albertosaurus and quickly ran. Edmaa looked back and quickly starts running as well.
They continued running until eventually they came approach a cliff with a sheer 200 foot drop. And they were forced to stop near the edge as Littlefoot looked back as the Albertosaurus was getting closer.
"Oh, no!" Petrie cried. "What we do? What we do?!"
"You young'uns get to that ledge!" Edmaa said as they turn to a small ledge near them. "I'll keep him busy."
"What?" Littlefoot said. "But you can't handle him."
"I may be old, but I don't plan to go down with no fight." Edmaa said. "Hurry!"
Littlefoot and his friends quickly got up the ledge and hid behind a large rock. And Edmaa turns to the Albertosaurus and rears up a roared.
She then charged and rams the Albertosaurus on the shoulder, but then the Albertosaurus quickly turns and bites down on Edmaa's neck. The predator then got dangerously close to the ledge, and then suddenly the edge under his feet broke apart as he struggles to hold on. The Albertosaurus tries to climb back up as Edmaa struggles to keep herself from slipping.
And soon, both dinosaurs slipped over the edge and fell over the cliff as a few seconds later, 2 heavy thuds were heard as they hit the ground.
Littlefoot was then the first to climb down the ledge as he looks down and saw the dead bodies of Edmaa and the Albertosaurus. And he knows that nothing could survive a drop like that.
Soon, the others came down as they begin to head out once again and alone.
