Chapter 8
The next day Rachel was back at Waterloo road and the heads were having a meeting after break about finances and building work.
"Right so anything else?" Eddie asked the room.
"Yeah there is" Kim started "I finally got through to Liv yesterday"
"Oh wow well done" Tom smiled
"What did she say?" Rachel asked.
"I need to speak to you and Eddie maybe with Liv present, she's got a lot going on in that head of hers, we've made a plan for the report cards and she's going to try her hardest, if she can give me one full week across all subjects I've promised we will start the removal of report cards and she knows what she needs to do"
"Okay, and did she respond to that?" Eddie asked
Kim nodded "I saw Liv smile for the first time in months"
"She probably bad mouthed Eddie and I about how bad we are at home" Rachel sighed
"Actually no, look let's talk later" Kim nodded
"Okay so if you both can work on the open day, Kim I really think we should look at a health day, specifically sexual health and Eddie I need you to submit budgets for the school" Rachel finalised "everyone okay with that?"
They all nodded in agreement.
"Right well I've got marking to do, so if that's everything" Tom smiled standing
"And I've got a year 12 practical to set up" Chris said standing.
"Thanks both" Eddie smiled
Both the men left and went to their prospective classrooms. Kim asked Amy to fetch Liv and came back into the office closing the door.
"So?" Rachel said sipping her coffee.
"Liv's having a bit of an identity crisis"
"Oh not this again" Eddie sighed.
"No no, listen a minute" Kim said "she believes she too big to find a boyfriend, she described herself as a 'mini mum', liv's craving to be herself"
"But we let her, she goes to all these parties" Rachel said.
"Something is holding her back and I can't quite get what it is"
"It's us" Eddie sighed
"What do you mean? I wasn't saying that?"
Rachel sighed "she is a mini me, right down to the stubbornness, I don't want her to make the same mistakes I did at her age"
"But Rachel you need to let her make them"
"It's so hard" Rachel said barely whispering "I don't want her to grow up"
"But Liv is becoming a young woman, every teenager makes mistakes" Kim said
Rachel sighed "I've been mumming her too much haven't I?"
"And she's rebelling, she's going to do the exact opposite as what you ask her, it's her dads school, in which you oversee, so she's going to behave badly, you won't let her go to a party, she escapes and goes"
Rachel sighed.
"You requested me?" Liv said walking in.
"Yes I did, but your supposed to knock don't forget" Kim gave her the look.
Liv knocked them door whilst holding it.
"Come and sit down" Kim smirked
Liv moved and sat by Kim on the sofa.
"Tell them what you told me" Kim said
Liv gulped looking at the three pairs of eyes on her she looked down at her hands "I can't they won't get it"
"They will" Kim nodded
Liv took a deep breath refusing to look up "I want to be me, I want to become Liv I don't want to be mini mum" she mumbled.
"Liv your gonna have to speak up" Kim said.
Liv sighed looking up "I want to be me, I want to be nothing like you in the nicest way possible, I want to be Liv Lawson I don't want to be mini Rachel Lawson"
It hit a nerve, silence became upon the room neither parent knowing how to respond.
Kim noticed the faces of Rachel and Eddie "Okay, it's not a personal attack so don't think like that" Kim added.
"I know I just don't know how we can change it when she's literally a mini me" Rachel sighed.
"Can I dye my hair, like properly dye it?" Liv asked
"It's such a beautiful colour on you, but if you don't like it, I suppose so, but we go to a hairdresser, I'm not having you bathtub dye it again, you dyed the bathroom" Rachel smiled.
Liv nodded "you'd really let me choose any colour"
"Within reason, blue, pink and purple is definitely a no, but any natural hair colour yes"
Liv nodded "thankyou and make up?"
Rachel rolled her eyes and looked at Eddie who just nodded once. "Fine, but minimal at school, I know your growing up Liv, I just don't want you to make the same mistakes I did"
"I know and I get that, but I can't be you, I'm not you, I'm Liv, I want to go to parties, I want to get a boyfriend and I want to have sex" Liv said bluntly.
Rachel and Eddie were both taken back and gulped. "Then maybe we should sit down and have a chat?" Rachel asked
"When? When your not working? When the two younger ones don't need you? You make us have health days, I'm pretty sure I can put a condom on a courgette with my eyes shut"
"Yes but legally your not allowed" Eddie finally piped up "I won't have it Liv, you can at least wait until your 16"
"I'm with your parents on this one Liv, you have to be ready to have sex, you can't force anyone too" Kim added.
Liv sat back and looked out the window "it's the next step though isn't it"
"What do you mean next step?" Kim asked.
"Doesn't matter"
"Are you being pressured to have sex?" Kim asked again.
"God no, Jesus woman" Liv looked at her "sorry, no I'm not but I've done some stuff, like a boy has seen me in my underwear and he has touched my chest, but we didn't go any further, but I wanted too, he didn't think we should so we didn't"
"Which boy? You don't have a boyfriend" Rachel said bluntly.
Liv sighed "I do, I just said I didn't because I didn't want you finding out"
"You lied to me too?" Kim asked
Liv nodded
"So how much was true?" She asked
"Oh everything else, I just didn't want them finding out" she said pointing to her parents "they would want to meet him, or make me dump him, or put me in a bedroom and give me the sex talk, I'm fine okay, we haven't slept together and we have no plans too, his a genuinely lovely guy and he attends this school"
"Who?" Eddie asked.
"Like I'm going to tell you, you realise it's difficult to enter any relationship in this school with you both in charge, please just let me be with this, I'll introduce him when we're ready"
