Three months went by. Almost every day at lunch and after work, Jack spent hours with Sue, teaching her what the world sounded like. One day, as they walked out of the Hoover Building and to a park after work, she sided up to him and imparted a very surprising piece of news.
"Jack, did you notice that I left my earplugs out today afternoon, during work?"
Her fiancé looked at her, shocked.
"No, I did not."
Sue smiled.
"I was hoping that you would say that! I thought that I was ready, so I did not put them back in after our lunch learning session. I was a little nervous when the others came in, but despite the fact that there was a good deal of noise in the office I think I managed well."
"You did indeed. You acted perfectly normal."
"It was very interesting. I was so excited to hear Bobby's voice and to finally know what an accent sounded like. He sounds so funny when he speaks!"
"That's our Australian for you!" Jack confirmed with a laugh.
"I have to say that Myles' voice suits him. It sounds exactly like he looks and acts. And it was so nice to have some warning before someone came behind me. As far as I am convinced, footsteps are a magical thing!"
Jack laughed again, nodding his head.
"But do you know something, Agent Hudson?" Sue murmured.
"What, dearest?"
"Of all the sounds I ever heard, I still like your voice best of all."
Jack responded by kissing her soundly. When they parted, he declared,
"If you can bear hearing what happens around the bullpen, I think that there is something that you should finally experience. Can I have a date for Saturday night?"
"Of course!"
