"You really are a fool Merlotte." I tell the shifter mutt.
"What are you really doing here Northman?" He folded his arms over his chest, glaring. How fucking mature? "I do my best to stay out of supernatural bullshit." I raised my eyebrows.
"Really?" I say bored and slightly amused, that he seems to have no idea who Sookie truly is. Though, I found myself glancing in the direction Sookie disappeared in. I know. I shouldn't of felt what I did, when I pulled her back. I partly did it to piss the shifter off.
"You've not got a clue what's going on do you?" I ask him. "You are right, I'm here for a reason, and she is my reason for being here. Why? That, I'm not obligated to inform you of that information. That is private information, and will be up to Sookie if she choses to say or not. I decided to push his buttons! Shifter's are so easy to wind up.
"Have you ever noticed anything different about her?" It would mean I could punish him, if he had hid this from me... An unregistered supernatural, when another knows is breaking a law in our world. It would give me great pleasure being one stinking mutt down.
BINGO! His eye twitched, and he hesitated. I smirked, I couldn't help it, I kept my eyes cold and emotionless though. My child Pamela will be thrilled. She hate's the smell of wet dog more than I do.
"It is not my place to say Northman." He tells me, looking away. Gotcha!
"Oh really? You know the rules Merlotte. Every supernatural in this area needs to be registered, if a supernatural knows of an unregistered, thats' breaking a law." He started loosing his composure! This is getting fun. Shifter's are so easy to mess around with.
"What do you want Northman? Why the sudden interest in Sookie? I didn't know you knew her? She's never mentioned you before." I roll my eyes.
"Perhaps I like to keep my private life private Shifter." That got him. You could almost see the steam coming out of his ears.
"Quit pissing around for fuck sake."
"That is no language to use, Sheriff Northman, you can quit playing with him now." Well colour me surprised. What the fuck was Naill doing here? Fairies disliked shifter stink even more than we did.
"Oh hell fucking no. I've done my god damn best to stay outta supernatural bullshit. I can tell your something powerful, but not what you are. Can you just both kindly piss off and let me get back to running my bar?" He started to turn away, when neither me or Niall in all his fairy glory, not hiding behind his human disguise said anything.
"Not when something precious to me works for you Shifter." He spun back around and eyed the two of us suspiciously this has to be the best night I've had in many decades.
"How the fuck do you know what I am?"
"I've heard every word," he glared at me. I shrugged. "And i've been around a lot longer, than even Northman here. He's a baby in comparison." It was my turn to glare at Niall.
"Watch it Brigant..." I hissed. I'm proud of surviving thousands of years, I do not appreciate being called a fucking baby of all the things, he could have said.
"Don't touch my daughter in that way again, then." His eye twitched as he said this threat, I knew for a fact there was something more to his words than meets the eyes. I raised my eyebrow in response.
"Your twitch say's something else." His eyebrows rose.
In all this time, we hadn't even noticed that Merlotte had gone.
"I guess he got bored waiting." Niall said.
"Are you going to elaborate?" I asked him, curiosity burning deep within, regarding the comment and twitch of the eye about his daughter.
"Shall I go back in and finish my interrogating? I was rather enjoying myself. This has to be the most entertaining night I've had in decades." Brigant rolled his eyes, and then frowned.
"I honestly don't know if that's a good idea. I'm out of my comfort zone, with this delicate situation. I want to go in and blast his ass for being so rude. But I also don't want my daughter to see me just yet. I don't feel this is the right place or the right time. I told her- the lady she thinks is her grandmother that I want her to arrange it, and if she doesn't then I will step in myself. But out of respect for the woman I chose to do things this way. I'm pretty sure she's read my letters now. Or at least the one I had left on her bed, after discovering she'd received nothing and has no idea who she is."
"You fairies are deceiving, crafty yet loyal fuckers." I said surprising myself. "Perhaps I should go back in, just to make sure the mutt doesn't interrogate her, due to my connection. He looked pretty shocked and angry at the same time." I say, finding myself itching to get closer to Sookie but not understanding why I felt this way. Brigant hesitated, then sighed resigned.
"Only because this is my daughter Northman. I don't like Vampires, but you appear to be a decent one, and showed how loyal you where in the Fairy/Vampire war those years ago."
"I'll take that as a compliment from a Fairy King, which will probably never happen again. For a fairy you aren't that bad... though I still want to know why your eye twitched at the mention of myself and Sookie. She is an interesting creature." He glared at me and I simply raised an eyebrow, my arms still folded over my chest. Nothing scared me, not even a angry fairy King or pissed off shifter.
There was several beeping sounds coming from Niall who looked reluctant to answer them.
"Pythia?" He answered on the third ring, ingoring the text messages. My eyebrows rose, and felt genuinely surprised. The ancient Pythoness?
"Northman, I know you can here me, and Niall, you two need to work together if you want that girl to accept both of you. Thanks for the entertainment." Click! And the phone line went dead.
What the fuck?
