Couple of weeks later
"Bailey please don`t go too far okay" Maggie said to her nephew. Bailey wasn't stopping as he kept running in the aquarium. She had taken a day off to spend time with him; ever since she moved out she hadn't taken time to spend time with her nieces and nephew. Although she occasionally stopped by, she felt like it was never enough. Even though Meredith told her that she was just being too hard on herself, the guilt never went away. Bailey was as energetic as they come and it was because of all the candy from the chocolate indulgence tour they had taken earlier. She was hoping the aquarium will burn off all that sugar that was making him hyper so that they will later go catch a movie. Maggie loved her nieces but she always had a special bond with Bailey. Bailey had even requested to go live with his aunt and that is how much he adored her. The two continued at the aquarium until Bailey let go of his aunt`s hand running off again. Maggie quickly followed him and found him talking to April who had Ruby on a stroller while holding Harriet`s hand.
"Hey, there you are" she said looking at her nephew not seeing April who was holding Harriet`s hand talking to Bailey
"Oh hey Maggie, this one saw us from a mile away"
"Oh hey April, I wasn't seeing you" Maggie said while Harriet started holding on to Maggie`s leg. She quickly lifted her up "hey princess, how are you? You look pretty in your dress?"
"Oh, looks like someone's been missing Miss Maggie" April said smiling at her daughter who just nodded her head while holding on to Maggie tightly
"It's always nice when they love their nannies this much, you must be so good with them" one of the ladies said to Maggie.
"Oh no, she is not..." before April could finish her sentence Maggie cut her off and said "oh yes actually, we have a special bond but you know, there is no special bond better than that of a mother and child" Maggie said patting Harriet`s head
"Oh, this is so precious is she adopted? I am only asking by looking at your boy, he is one active young man and your littlest one is so adorable in her stroller" the lady said to April who was holding Bailey`s hand while the other hand held on to Ruby`s stroller "oh no he is just...
"Oh he is, she has quiet a handful with that one but hey that`s motherhood" Maggie said with a little chuckle
"Oh, aren't you adorable" the lady said looking at Maggie "you should enjoy them while they are still young" she said to April who just let out a little uncomfortable smile. She turned and put her hand on Maggie`s shoulder and said "do you maybe have a sister because all my kids drive all the nannies away. I can`t seem to keep one for long"
"I can imagine" Maggie said sarcastically "unfortunately I am an only child"
"What a shame, bye little baby" the lady said to Harriet as she walked away
April had no words with what she had just witnessed. She was left literally speechless with how Maggie handled that. She didn't think it sent a right message since they were in front of the kids who could understand.
"I am sorry about that, how have you been? I haven`t seen you in a while" Maggie said casually
"You are sorry, you just said you were a nanny and we both know that`s not true" April said un amused by Maggie`s carefree attitude
"Well, sometimes you just...
"Oh my God, do you really want to defend what you just did, Maggie you just lied and you went on to imply that Bailey was my son, who does that?"
Maggie said nothing but just looked at April, she then moved her hand and lifted Harriet`s head from her shoulder "hey baby, I have to go now. I will see you soon okay" Harriet nodded her head as Maggie slowly put her down "Bailey, say bye to aunt April we have to go"
"But we just got in here"
"How about we go to the park. How does that sound?"
"Okay" Bailey said letting go of April`s hand
"Bye baby and be good to your mommy okay?" she said to Harriet. She stood up, faced April and said nothing more than just bye.
"Really Maggie, you are just going to walk away like that huh, typical"
"What did you just say?" Maggie turned facing April
"I said that`s typical of you, I mean you always run from serious meaningful conversation instead of just talking with a person"
"Wow, I can`t believe you just said that" Maggie said and walked away from April. One guy who watched everything unfold looked at April and just shook his head.
"What!" April said shouting causing those around to stare.
...
Maggie was seated in one of the park benches with Bailey who was having an ice cream.
"Auntie Maggie, I think you should have told April why you did that"
"Well, sometimes it's not about being right but about what`s best at the right time"
"You also always say people often waste time waiting for the right moment so I think you should tell her"
"And when did you turn forty" Maggie said tickling Bailey who burst out in laughter "how about you finish your ice cream and we see if we could still catch that movie"
"Okay"
Her phone then dinged and it was April texting that she wanted to talk with her. Maggie read the text and just ignored it. She saw April calling but she sent the call straight to voicemail "you are going to have to talk to her eventually" Bailey said
"And I hope so too Bailey" April said standing behind Maggie. She turned to look at her since she was not expecting to see her "can we talk please" April said
"Now it`s not a good time, Bailey and I are about to go catch a movie"
"That`s okay. We can skip the movie" Bailey interjected while Harriet clapped her hands saying "movie, movie"
"Okay, Bailey why don`t you go play by the swing while I talk with aunt April" Bailey quickly ran off while Harriet just stayed close by while April sat next to Maggie with Ruby`s stroller by her side.
"I just want to say I am so sorry about my behaviour, you are so wonderful with Harriet and she clearly adores you. I don`t know what came over me, I didn't mean to be rude about what I said, I just wanted us to talk. Gosh I hate that this thing is even an issue all of a sudden"
"Well, it's not an issue for you and it's not all of a sudden"
"Okay Maggie, I am aware that you and Jackson have moved in together but you have to understand that I am Christian and I am trying to raise my daughter with good values. I know it sounds silly but it's important to me and I just want you to understand where I am coming from"
"So you have a problem with Jackson and me moving in together before we are married because I am not sure if I am following where this is going"
"Oh no, of course not, I am not here to judge you because I have tremendous respect for you as a person and Jackson is lucky to have you"
"April, believe you me I want what`s best for Harriet and you don`t need to worry at all. I know that you and Jackson are Harriet`s parents and I am doing my best to not interfere with that"
"I know, it's just that the way you straight up lied to that lady had me concerned"
"You don`t get it, do you?"
"Get what? Maggie what I am saying might not make sense to you because you are not a mum and it might sound stupid but I just want you to at least hear me out"
"Oh my God, is that what this is all about, do you really think I would intentionally do things that would be harmful to Harriet. I thought you knew me better than that April"
"I also thought I did but after today I don`t know what to think anymore"
"You know what, if you don`t feel comfortable with Harriet around me that`s okay, I think you and Jackson should talk about it to figure out a way forward. I live with him now so if I am an issue please tell him so we can all find something that will work best for Harriet because believe it or not, her wellbeing is my priority too"
"I am glad we had this talk, I will talk to Jackson about all this so maybe we can find a way forward because I still have my concerns"
"You do what you need to do for your daughter April"
"Thanks Maggie, I have to go drop the kids over and maybe Jackson and I will talk if that`s okay"
"Sure, I will be at my sister`s so you guys take all the time you need" Maggie said being a little sarcastic. She didn't want to argue with April so she just watched her as she walked away. She then took her phone and texted Jackson
Hey babe, Bailey and I are having a great time so I might be home very late so don`t wait up. Love you.
...
Jackson finished his surgery with Webber, they had a gender queer non binary patient. Webber had been going on and on about how difficult it was for him to adjust to the new terms. Jackson couldn't help but be amused by how hard it was for him
"How is Maggie doing, we haven't seen you guys in a while. You two should come for dinner one of these days"
"She is great actually; I think we will do that. Speaking of which, I need to call her. I haven`t seen her all day. She spent the day with Bailey today"
"Oh that`s nice, I am sure she is just feeling guilty about moving in with you and she is trying to make it up to him" Jackson said nothing but just smiled as he took his phone to call her but his eye was caught by what was on his phone `screen
"What! 8 missed calls from April!"
Before Webber could answer him a nurse came in and said "Dr Avery, Dr Kepner has been trying to get hold of you, she said you need to get in touch with her a.s.a.p. It`s something to do with Harriet"
Jackson said nothing as he quickly dialled April`s number running off leaving Webber behind.
