Okay, lets see. Will needed to get 32 sets of bandages, 21 rations of nectar and ambrosia, 6 spleens, 14 more blankets, find some way to get 8 more cots and figure out how to fix the gaping hole in the infirmary's floor without Nico. Will was doing fine. Just fine.
He had been through worse, well… except for the huge hole. He'd never faced anything like that before. Compared to the battle of Manhattan this was nothing, but for a second he thought there would finally be some peace at camp. Pretty stupid of him to do that. He took all the supplies he could back to the camp, after checking up on Nico to make sure he was still sleeping in his room, which he was. After all the supplies had been delivered Will got too finding the extra cots they needed. Usually, he would be in the infirmary healing people, but out of all the kids they had, he was the most resourceful. All the other nurses knew what they needed to know to take care of the kids in the cabin, in any case, Will wasn't nearly as good of a healer as all the other kids made him out to be.
Will went to the infirmary, which was in ruins and was immediately stopped by the Hecate kids who provided him with earplugs which blocked out the noise. Will was glad, he had heard the sounds that had come from that pit and never wanted to again. He was hoping he could salvage a few beds or anything of the sort. A few scrap fabrics, pieces of ambrosia, anything. He found a few pieces of fabric which seemed promising. He figured if he got a few sticks he could convince one of the Hephaestus kids to make a few cots. They loved a challenge, and with the scarcer materials he had it would definitely be challenging.
At first he steered clear of the pit but in the end his curiosity got the better of him. He walked to the edge and looked down. Even though he couldn't hear it, it felt like there were a thousand arms pulling him, begging him to go inside and he nearly did. It couldn't be that bad, right? Will snapped out of the trance he had fallen in, suddenly realizing that he was dangerously close to falling into the pit, and stumbled back at the realization. Will quickly gathered what he needed and got out of there.
He knocked on the Hephaestus cabin door and was greeted by a surprisingly idle Shane. "How can I help you?"
I tried to not look as frantic as I felt, "You want to build something?"
"What for?"
"I have some fabric and sticks. I was hoping you could make a few cots for the infirmary?"
Shane looked curious. "Is that all you have?"
"Yup," Will was worried Shane would say no. If he did that Will would have no way whatsoever to get those cots. After the two great wars they had just been through, the camp was a bit low on supplies.
"I'm in."
Will felt a surge of relief hearing those words. He handed all the supplies he had to Shane, and uttered a quick thank you before running off. He didn't leave so quickly to be rude, he was just really stressed and had a lot to do.
He had no choice but to face the problem he was avoiding. The crack. There was a huge, gaping, chasm in the middle of the infirmary, and as the head doctor it was his job to fix it somehow. He had basically no experience with this sort of thing. He wasn't one of those kids who went on quests and fixed potentially world-ending problems, so he decided to go get them. He found Percy and Annabeth at the lake, sitting and talking. He probably shouldn't disturb them, but he was pretty sure this would count as an emergency. But being as clumsy as he was, he stepped on a twig walking up to them, causing them both to jump onto their feet raising their weapons which greatly startled Will. Figures, people who had been in battle as much as they had would probably be wary of sudden sounds.
They lowered their weapons when they saw him. "Oh, hey Will." Annabeth spoke first. "What brings you here?"
"So… um… you know that huge hole in the infirmary? Do you have any idea how to fix it?"
Annabeth's brow furrowed and she looked pretty scary. Will couldn't imagine how Percy could date somebody that scary. Half the time he would be afraid to say the wrong thing and make them angry. "No, I don't think so. But with our luck, it would probably take a quest to find twenty magical objects around the world to fix it."
Was that a joke? Will wasn't sure if it was a joke. Annabeth seemed like she was joking. Maybe I should laugh. Will laughed a bit but immediately stopped when he saw Annabeth wasn't. Shit. He shouldn't have laughed. Will was relieved to see that neither Annabeth or Percy were looking at him oddly.
Percy interjected, "Maybe ask Rachel, she might have a prophecy or something for you." Will wasn't entirely stupid, Percy clearly wanted him to leave. Percy was fidgety and he kept looking around as if searching for an excuse to get Will to leave.
Will took the hint. "Ok, sure. I will do that." Will's next stop was the cave where Rachel stayed when she was at camp which, luckily for him, she was. She was in the cave, painting a picture of… Will? And Nico? She usually painted what she saw in her dreams, which usually predicted the future like it did for a lot of the demigods at camp. She stopped painting when Will entered.
Needless to say, Will was both extremely confused and extremely excited, "What's the painting? It looks like it's Nico and I. Is it?"
"Umm… yeah. I wish I could tell you what was happening but I'm not entirely sure. I woke up before anything too significant happened. But I dreamed of you and Nico walking through the woods. I've been doing this oracle thing for a decent amount of time now and I'd say we have about 30 seconds before I tell you some ominous prophecy. And it probably has to do with just you and Nico, which is weird. Usually it's three campers who go on quests."
Rachel sat down, bracing for the prophecy, but it never came. She got up confused and sputtered. "That's weird. Usually when I see somebody who I've had vision about, I end up giving them a prophecy. Well, I guess just be ready for some kind of a quest to go on with you and Nico." A quest. With him and Nico. Those could take days, weeks, sometimes. Okay, so he had to prepare to spend possible weeks alone with him and Nico. How the fuck was he supposed to do that? Rachel was still talking, "Although it might not be a quest. All I know is that whatever happened then, it was important."
As much as he hated to do it, he figured he had to go wake up Nico to tell him that. But first, he was hoping he could get a bit more information out of Rachel. "Is there anything else, at all, that you saw in your vision?"
"Well, I'm not exactly sure but I think I saw some figure following you through the woods. I only caught a glimpse but it didn't look huge, so probably not a monster. As far as I know, all of those are huge."
"Yeah, they are. Was the woods the one here at camp?"
"I think it was, I think I might've saw one of the labyrinth entrances behind you."
"Oh okay, thanks Rachel."
Will left and headed for the Hades Cabin to inform Nico.
When he walked in Nico was still sleeping and Will gently nudged him.
"Hey Nico." Nico ignored him.
"Nico!" Nothing.
Nico, wake up!"
Nico turned around to look at Will. "What do you want?"
"So, I was talking to Rachel and she had a vision of the two of us. We were walking through the woods around the camp and it probably has something to do with the crack in the infirmary. She says it might be a quest. But there was no prophecy." Will blurted at once. He was speaking so fast he wasn't sure Nico heard him. Nico sat up in bed so fast Will thought Nico might break something. Okay, Nico probably heard him.
AN: Sorry for the lack of Solangelo. Nico was... asleep. There will be more next chapter, I promise.
