Hey there,
I wanted to get a note out here to inform the readership I'm going back and making a couple different edits to the story in the coming days. Response to this one continues to light (but ever appreciated) and quiet this time around, so it seemed like I'd probably be able to go back and edit a few details without throwing too much out of whack. I've been very slow in getting the next chapter up because it's one of those long, backstory laden one-shots I sometimes do and I've been running it by some critique partners to really get it where I want it. It's gonna be long, it's gonna be a doozy, but I'm looking forward to getting it done and getting it out there.
Right, so, a couple changes in the coming days-
Nijah, Father Gallagher, and Arlington all refer to their leader in Chapter five, who they call the Nephilim. I've determined from what I've decided about this still unseen foe that, unlike the Seraphim before him, he would NOT make the mistake of using a plural term as his title. In the rewrite, he will be referred to simply as, "the Eldest." That will make more sense later on, we're getting to a few first details on him soon.
In chapter six, Sadie, through Arlington's memories, suggests they're dealing with a group called The Order of Cantonna. For reasons that will be explored later, I think Nephilim, The Nephilim, or The Order of the Nephilim, would be a more appropriate title. So the term is sticking around, but will be applied to the group as a whole rather than their leader.
There will be a little general cleanup of the earlier chapters. Sadie, quite frankly, says, "Uh" more than even I think is natural, for instance.
I've never really announced going back and edited details like this in a story before. But as I've gotten older and done more editing of my own stuff, it's made me want to do better about revising in the name of a better final product.
The quiet, seemingly tepid response to this story (along with a lot of work on other projects and crazy life stuff like buying my first house) has slowed my production a fair deal, I will acknowledge. But I do still believe there are some readers continuing to come back as I update and it will potentially find a bigger audience as I continue to work through it. The Angel of the Bat series has meant a lot to me these last few years and I do still want to give it one big, bombastic send off, which I think this story will still prove to be.
So, edits in the coming days. I promise I won't try to start from scratch again. New one-shot coming as soon as it's ready. Thank you for bearing with me.
