Chapter 8: An enigmatic encounter.
Guys, I still don't know if I should ship Sans with Yang or Ruby. There is one vote for Yang and another for Ruby. I need your opinions. By the way, enjoy the chapter.
Ruby woke up to find herself in a world filled with darkness. She couldn't understand what was going on. She looked around for a while and saw a disturbing figure.
The figure seemed to be a blob/skeleton with a nasty scar on the right side of his skull, cutting from his right eye to the back of his skull and another scar cutting from his left eye to the edge of his mouth. He was wearing a turtleneck along with some sort of black suit.
The little Rose could have sworn she saw some sort of twisted smile forming on his non-existent mouth. He was smiling, yet, he looked clearly in pain.
"Mister, are you alright?" Ruby asked hesitantly.
"My, my, such a lovely little child you are. You called me a mister before you even get to know who I am." He stated in a smooth and warm voice that defied his appearance.
"This deserves," The skeleton reached out for Ruby as she shrunk in fear.
"A head pat for your politeness." The strange figure said as he patted Ruby's head.
"Uh, thank you,... Mister,..."
"Gaster, Wingdings Gaster, child. The former royal scientist of the underground." The figure bowed.
"Gaster? Like, Sans Gaster?" The little red riding hood asked.
"That would be my son, yes." Gaster smiled.
"Wha - Your son!?" The little Rose asked confusedly.
"Yes. I believe you have met him. He is a bright young man, is he not?" Wingdings continued.
"Yeah, he is a nice guy." Ruby said.
"Well, we are in the void at the moment so I believe we have some time to talk about your abilities before you wake up." Gaster stated, causing Ruby to raise an eyebrow.
"My abilities?" She asked.
"Yes, dear child. You have the soul of determination. A very rare soul if I say so myself. One in ten millions. It allows you to go back in time at the first save point and revive you at the latest one." The ex-scientist explained.
"Yeah, that I know. But, why does someone even want to use my abilities? Isn't bending people's fate for your own benefits,... Selfish? No one should be able to use this kind of power." The little red declared.
"Do not hate yourself for having that power, miss Rose. However, it is good to know that messing with other people's life is wrong. Use that power of yours to do good." Gaster advised.
"I will. I promise." Ruby said.
"Oh, and, before you leave miss Rose. Do not forget this." The little Rose looked at the man as he told her.
"The more living creatures you kill, the more you will distance yourself. And the more you distance yourself, the less it will hurt when you get hit, giving you more reasons to do it again. The higher your Level of Violence is, the more damage Sans's karmic retribution will deal on you. So, try not to kill many living beings." The former scientist explained.
Ruby just looked at him in confusion before nodding. She didn't understand most of what he said but she could understand what he was trying to say. Don't kill people, and Sans won't kill you.
"Do be cautious with our new unpleasant guests." The man said as everything turned white.
The little red riding hood then woke up from that strange dream. She looked down to see that her blaster was snuggling next to her. She couldn't help but squeeze the adorable thing tighter. As she petted it's head, three more appeared and tried to cheer her up by snuggling her.
Ruby giggled for a moment before noticing that no one was in the room. She picked up the note on the table and read it.
aear Ruby
We've noticed that you have not been well lately, and we've decided that it is best that you rest for a while until you are well enough to continue with school. We will take notes for you so don't worry about classes. Just focus on your recovery.Just try to tell us what has been bothering you and we will do our best to help. We will do anything we can. I know that we are not perfect but we will be what you need to get through this.Love, Yang, Blake and Weiss.
Ruby was happy to see how much her team cared for her and she wanted to thank them. But first, she needed food. The little reaper hadn't eaten anything the night before so she was very hungry.
"Are you alright now?" A familiar voice asked.
"No, Chara. I'm not okay at all. But, the past is the past. Sitting here and crying
won't do me any good. So now, I'm determined to make the future a better place." The little Rose declared.
"You are filled with determination." Chara smiled gently, causing Ruby to giggle.
"Yep! Now, I'm going to get dressed and head to the cafeteria and - Wait a minute, why are my pupils red?" The little red riding hood questioned as she looked closer to the mirror.
"A little side effect of determination, you'll get used to it. Despite what's happening, it's still you, Ruby." The ghost girl ensured her.
"Okay, then. This will just further prove that me and Yang are sisters!" Ruby said happily.
"Yang and I." The striped shirt wearing girl fixed.
Despite Ruby's efforts in pretending to be alright, Chara of all people knew that she was still in pain, but decided to say nothing. After Ruby got dressed, she opened the door and used the blaster's rose-like propeller back to launch herself to the cafeteria.
The little girl was about to get into the food court but crashed onto another man. He was wearing a black hoodie and shorts that was a bit over his knees. A long blue scarf covered his neck and ran all the way down his back. Ruby rubbed her head in pain before realizing what she had done. She quickly got up and continuously apologized to him.
"OhmyOum!I'msosorry!Areyoualright?DidIhurtyou!?Ididn'tmeantodothat!I'msorry!"
"Ughhh, already hating the idea of splitting up." The boy stated.
"I'm so - Wait, Sans!?" The red reaper asked in a surprised tone.
"No, I'm Error." Error introduced himself.
"Oh, sorry. You look just like Sans. Well, minus the skin tone and hair color, and those weird eyelashes." Ruby apologized.
"These are NOT eyelashes! These are my weapons, and they are strings!" The boy declared.
"Strings? Okay then,... I will not ask any questions about them." The red hooded girl said.
"Good, I don't want to answer any of them." The destroyer rudely stated.
The little Rose paid him no mind and turned away to get herself some food. She settled with some strawberries along with a few sandwiches and some cookies. The other boy just sat down somewhere in the corner and took out a chocolate from some sort of portal before eating it.
Meanwhile
It was definitely not a pleasant day for both team (R)WBYS and JNPR. The air between Yang and Sans was undeniably uncomfortable. The brawler didn't laugh at any of Sans's pun and was giving him death glares the whole time. The two teams tried and failed to get between the two.
The jokester never ending dad jokes only further infuriated Yang. She couldn't help but scowl at the boy's jolly attitude after what had happened the day before. If Yang doesn't receive a good reason why he let Ruby cry like that, she would rip his head clean off his shoulders. As Sans walked out of the class, a familiar voice was heard.
"Don't you know how to greet an old friend? Turn around and shake my hand."
Nora, being the bubbly person that she was, decided to shake the person's hand. As soon as she touched the strange girl's hand, a buzz was heard and electricity flowed through her body. The current was not a strong one but she couldn't help but giggled as her Semblance allowed her to turn electricity into power.
"Woooah! Your handshake gives me POWER! OOOOH! Ren! Ren! Ren! We should definitely make her our friend. She has the ability to charge me! Do it again! DO IT AGAIN!" Nora pleaded as her energetic nature kicked in.
"well, this is a surprise. but a welcoming one." Sans stated.
"You knew her?" Jaune asked.
"Heh, yeah he do." The girl said.
"everyone, this is Ink. she is an old friend of mine. Ink, these are my friends. Jaune, Pyrrha, Nora, Ren, Blake, Yang and Ice Queen-"
"Hey! Rude!" Weiss cut in.
"So, what's your name again?" Ink asked.
"Weiss Schnee, the heiress of Schnee Dust Company." The heiress spoke.
"A pleasure to meet you." The girl with heterochromia said.
"right, can we talk about this at the cafeteria? i'm hungry." Sans asked.
"Yeah, time for the pancakes!" Nora chimed in.
TIMESKIP"So, let me get this straight. You are Sans's cousin who lives on the same mountain as he did? And for some reason, you knew the headmaster of Beacon Academy and only stay here for a short while, correct?" Yang asked.
"Yup, pretty much. Oh, there is my friend, gotta go!" Ink chimed as she ran towards Error's sitting place.
'why did Error had to be here? couldn't she just come here by herself?' Sans thought to himself.
"at least someone's having a blast. now that i mentioned it, we need to take a break before we Pasta out. We might fall under the De Brie of our own knowledge. oh, hey Ruby! you look Radishing today. you good now?" Sans punned as he looked at Ruby.
"I'm in a good mood today, so I'm gonna ignore those puns. And yes, after my mental breakdown yesterday, I'm now back on my feet." Ruby declared with a small smile forming on her face.
"Good, because we are worried about you. Just tell me when you want to talk about what had happened." Weiss spoke up.
"Agree." Blake added.
"Tell me when you want to talk about something, okay. Owl wait." Yang finally cracked a pun as everyone sighed in relief.
"finally got Cracking, eh?" Sans punned.
"Yeah, yeah. But that doesn't mean I'm Fin-nish with you." Yang joked back, making Ruby right eye twitched.
"I will let go of those puns and live in the present." Ruby rubbed her eyes as she spoke. Sans gave her the biggest shit eating grin as he took out a present box and said.
"Sure, get in."
"You two are NOT torturing me the MOMENT I got better!" Ruby screamed as her pupils turned red.
Yang noticed Ruby's pupils turning red but Ren was the first to point it out.
"Ruby, your pupils are red. Please, calm down."
"*Sigh* Sorry, I got a bit out of my Character." Ruby apologized.
"You couldn't help it, can you?" Chara huffed.
"s'okay. we will not make anymore puns for the rest of the day if that makes you feel better." Sans declared.
"Well, I think we should go to the Vytal festival in Vale this afternoon for a change of pace. What do you guys think?" Weiss offered.
As soon as she said that, strings wrapped onto each and every strays of food in the cafeteria and hit team CRDL, followed by an angry voice. Everyone turned to the source of the voice and saw Error with a deep frown.
"Touch my scarf and I will rip your limbs off." Error threatened as he threw the team through the door.
"after the food fight." Sans said as he put on a Cheshire cat grin.
