Evening all! Here comes another chapter of Phantasia!
I initially wanted this chapter to start the battle trials, but after writing it and re-reading it, I figured I needed to establish a few things within the context of the story. That and also introduce everyone's favorite homeless homeroom teacher! The straw poll is still up for the Pairing of Naoki, and currently, Kinoko is winning with 18 votes, with Mina at 15 and Momo at 3. (Poor Momo)
Link is here: strawpoll. me/21039942 [delete the space]
Though I may take it down sooner than I had hoped because of the lack of interest in the poll after chapter 6. I may make a new one as some people on ao3 have noted that they would like to see Naoki in a poly relationship with Kinoko and Mina, which I initially was against, feeling I couldn't do the relationship justice, but writing the interactions so far and the positive feedback I've been getting...
Maybe...
Anyway, Chapter 9 is being written at this moment, which will have the battle trials, HURRAY! so please enjoy this chapter of Phantasia, and don't forget to comment/review! I want to improve my writing and storytelling and anything positive or negative helps!

Chapter 8
Gifts and Terror
To say that Naoki was having a rough time currently would be an understatement, after conjuring a small 'ice storm' to make the two girls feel a little chilled to snap them out of their… rather terrifying looks they were giving him, (although admittedly, he did blush later on due to the positive effects of being looked upon like that.) and also drying himself within his private bathroom and putting a shirt on, he had walked out drying his hair with his towel seeing Kinoko sitting at his desk, holding a wrapped box with cute little mushrooms printed on the paper, and Mina was sitting on his bed looking around at his various posters of different bands pre-quirk, and post-quirk eras, which drew another blush from the boy as he cleared his throat to get their attention.
Both girls looked to him, Mina being the ever bright girl she was smiling wildly at him while Kinoko looked like she was about to fold in on herself and was blushing hard. Naoki sighed gently as he went to the bedroom door that led into the hallway, closing it as he did earlier, but then having to push on it suddenly to hear the final click, "Ah, ok… I didn't realize you need to fully push in to make sure it was shut." He then turned to the two girls, "So, I'm am sorry you had to see that...erm… "display" earlier, and the song lyrics. I-I know their not the most… appropriate-"
"Pu-lease! Nothing to be sorry about, it was an accident we saw you practicing, plus the "show" was great too." Mina said with a sing-song tone at first, getting off the bed and walking towards him with her hips swaying slightly before leaning forward a little, ending her sentence with what could be heard as 'purring' at the end of her sentence, unknown to her was the look Kinoko was giving the pink-skinned girl, her eyes furious with jealousy, which was hidden under her bangs, so it looked like she was pouting. Naoki had backed up to the door, his face a deep blueish tint on his cheeks as Mina stood up and giggled at his reaction. Which then earned her a frown and deadpanned look on the devil insect teen's face.
"B-Be that as it may, was there something you two needed?"
"Oh! That's right!" Mina exclaimed before rushing to the mushroom girl, who she hoisted up and pushed towards Naoki almost colliding the two together, "This little cutie got all dressed up and came to give you something!" Mina said with glee as Kinoko's cheeks blushed a deep red, while Naoki's face matched with hers, although in the blue hue. The mushroom girl suddenly held the box up at his face, quaking as she spoke.
"T-this is t-t-thank you for s-s-saving me in the e-exams, a-and H-happy b-b-birthday! Gensou-Kun!" exclaimed Kinoko as Naoki looked to the present before him, slowly taking it and bowing his head to her as he took a hold of the decently sized box, slowly opening it as Mina gasped.
"Why didn't you mention it was your birthday, dude?! We could have had everyone make a quick little party!" she said with her hands on Kinoko's shoulders still, watching him open the mystery present.
"I… didn't want to bother everyone when we were just moving in today, besides normally it's just my mom, Auntie Inko, and Izuku anyway… kinda like the small group for such events... for now at least." he chuckled gently as both girls looked to one another then back to him, their curiosity getting to them as to what the boy just said, but those thoughts halted when he was about to open the box and asked, "How did you know it was my birthday anyway, Komori?"
Kinoko's cheeks turned pink again as she pushed the tips of her index fingers again, "B-before we moved into the dorm shrooms- I mean dorm rooms, I had one last lesson with G-Gensou-sensei and asked if I could s-say thank you… S-she said that you were busy, but she would pass on the message, s-she then said she was sad that y-you both couldn't celebrate your birthday today…" explained to the shy girl as Naoki nodded, his thumb over on top of the plain brown box, he figured his mother had a hand in this, knowing she could be cunning in her ways.
There were times her cunning often scared him, especially when he was told how his mother wooed his father.
Regardless, he opened the box and gasped, blinking before reaching a hand in and pulling out what looked like a little mushroom, but were, in fact, small odd-shaped cookie biscuits with chocolate "tops". He looked over it for a few moments, before plopping it into his mouth, taking a few bites as Kinoko watched his reaction, she was nervous when he didn't say anything, but then his eyes slowly widened and he began to smile, then reached in and took about three more. She blushed atomic red, her left eye now visible past her bangs as it stared wide-eyed as he exclaimed after finishing off another two, "These are fantastic, Komori! And it's Dark Chocolate! How did you know my favorite is dark chocolate? And did you make these?"
Kinoko giggled softly and scratched her cheek, lowering her head, "Y-yes I did make them and L-lucky guess?" was her reply, which was a lie as Gensou-sensei had told her when she let it "slip" they wouldn't be having his favorite dark chocolate birthday cake. Still, Naoki bought the lie as he munched a few more of the cookies before closing the box and moving from the door to place it on his desk.
"As much as I could keep eating those, I should probably get some actual food in me, since I skipped breakfast…" Naoki chuckled gently as suddenly his stomach growled loudly, indicating what he said as true, which got both girls to giggle and Mina to ask if Kinoko wouldn't mind hanging out with her and meeting the other girls, for which Komori nodded happily. The three left Naoki's room, with Mina being the last one. Making sure the door was properly shut this time, in her mind, she could not stop thinking about all the cute reactions and expressions of not only Kinoko but Naoki as she watched the shy girl present the boy with the gift of the homemade treats. Oh, she was going to have fun here at UA.
The rest of the afternoon had gone a little easier than expected, granted at first it was a little awkward for Noaki as some of the students had rushed to Naoki asking if he was singing that song or not. He said that he did, though he may have played a little too loud, knocking the door free from its not "fully closed" state. There were a few acknowledgments before Tenya went up to him and reminded him to make sure the door was properly closed so that no one is disturbed by such "music" in the future. Naoki had glared at the blue-haired boy as what he played WAS music, but sadly he muttered a 'yes' which was followed after by a thought of "everyone's a critic".
After eating, Naoki sat down with Izuku and a few of the other students, being introduced to Ochaco and Tsuyu before they were dragged away by Mina and Toru for some "girl talk" with Kinoko, Momo, and Kyoka. The last girl kept looking at Naoki with a serious expression that the teenager had no idea what it was about, hoping that the song he sang didn't bother her.
It was just after dinner, which was made by Rikido Sato (along with Izuku, Naoki, and Mezo Shoji helping out in the cooking) when a boastful voice suddenly rang throughout the common room, startling everyone.
"I AM… COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!"
Everyone watched as All Might, dressed up in one of his old hero costumes came proudly through the doors, his cape billowing behind him, which was odd because there was no wind before him. Kirishima was the first to speak up before others started to follow suit.
"Holy Crap! It's All Might in person!"
"I didn't think we'd see him before school started!
"He's even wearing one of his 'Silver Age' costumes, kero."
"Wait- Who's behind him?"
The last comment got everyone's attention as a rather tired-looking man walked from behind the number one hero and moved to stand in front of him. His clothes were all black and his hair was matched it, looking like it hadn't been combed in quite some time, what was odd about his appearance was the many strands of a gray scarf covering his body, he looked over the students gathered before landing his sights on Kinoko, who flinched slightly when she got his glare for a moment.
"You are not a part of Class 1-A, are you?" he asked with a dull tone to his voice as the girl nodded quickly.
"N-No, I am a part of C-class 1-B." she answered as the man kept looking at her with his tired look.
"Then head back to your dorms, Vlad King will be expecting you," he said as Kinoko nodded and quickly bowed to the girls, rushing off back to her dorms and the man ignoring the fleeing student, keeping his attention back on the other students as he glared at them, he sighed as he continued, "Now, as I'm sure you already figured out, All Might will be here to teach the 'Foundational Hero Studies' course." he then crossed his arms, watching their reactions as he finished speaking, "I am Aizawa Shota, I am the Class 1-A Homeroom teacher."
From behind Aizawa, All Might could be seen pushing a trolley of some kind with about twenty large metallic briefcases, which all were marked from numbers one through twenty. Taking the one numbered "8", Aizawa held it up, "Starting tomorrow is your first day of school, normally I would be running a "quirk assessment test", but due to losing a bet against the Principal, we are going straight to your first heroics class." Aizawa paused as he saw a hand suddenly go up, nodding his head to the student in question, Tenya of course.
"What about the morning orientation, Sensei?"
"Heroes don't have time for such trivialities, it is a waste of time and the important bits of said orientation are covered within the syllabus at your desk's after lunch tomorrow." sighed Aizawa as Tenya nodded and bowed his head in apology as their homeroom teacher continued, "Now, inside of these cases is your hero costumes that were designed by local support companies and 3rd-year support students, anything that was too large for this container will be given to you once you finish changing." He then glared at the kids, making them flinch, "They are NOT to be opened until you get to the change room and to make sure of that fact, they have a timer lock that will open at 7 am. Am I clear on that?"
"Yes Aizawa-Sensei!" they call called out as said teacher rolled his eyes, tossing the case he was carrying to Kirishima, who caught it and had a big grin, showing off his sharp teeth.
"Now, I will call you up by your name and remember your number, as this will be the seating plan tomorrow afternoon and for the rest of your school year," spoke Aizawa as he took another case and called for the second student.
It took about twenty minutes to go through all of the cases, but as he finished handing the case to Ochaco, she had noticed something.
"Erm, Sensei… who's case is that?" she said pointing to the lone case on the trolley, marked with the number '9' on it. The homeroom teacher looked at it then to her, seeing that the rest of the students had their attention on him now.
"That case was for a student who was already expelled," he said bluntly which everyone gasped at, some voiced their displeasure, citing how it was unfair and they weren't given a chance. Aizawa glared at all of them, activating his quirk with the red flare of his eyes and hair standing on end that quieted the students, he then spoke low with a hint of annoyance in his tone, "Unfair you say? When is anything a hero faces "fair"? Flash Floods, Earthquakes, Villain ambushes are a few things that heroes have no control over, no matter how much someone wishes it, the world is not fair." He said in a deadly serious tone, deactivating his quirk, "I am sorry to tell you… that for the next three years, U.A. will run you through the wringer. That's 'Plus Ultra'. Use your strength to overcome it all. So starting tomorrow, bring it."
Aizawa then picked up the last case, carrying it with him as he started to head out, he paused as All Might kept going, who had been watching his "senpai" deal with Class 1-A. All Might wished to voice his own opinions against Aizawa's views, though some of them were true, he did not wish to undermine the man's role. Aizawa was the senior teacher and their homeroom teacher, and thus All Might would have to question him afterward away from his student's eyes and ears.
"One more thing, I will be attending the hero class tomorrow as well, since I can't do my test, I will be basing your potential during said class, and if I find you wanting, you will be expelled." he called out loudly with his head looking back at his students, he continued before any voiced their opinions, "You are given a lot of freedom here at UA, likewise that applies to the teachers as well, we have freedom in how we teach, that being said, if I see anyone slacking off or wasting the potential of others, I will expel you. Now, you are to report to Gym Beta at 7:30 am, in costume, anyone late will face consequences… do I make myself clear?" he gave them a scary grin as all the students nodded and then rushed up to their rooms, hoping to get some sleep before their first hero class.
Aizawa soon walked out of the dorms, sighing gently as All Might appeared beside him, both men staring at one another, "Was that really necessary, Aizawa? To tell them you expelled the Koda boy even before the school year-"
"He's not been expelled," Aizawa said as he pulled a jelly packet from somewhere on his person, sucking it down while giving the number one hero a deadpanned look, All Might simply looked confused at this proclamation.
"Pardon?"
"He's not expelled, Well... he was expelled from the hero course, but then I re-admitted him into the general studies course. He's still going to UA, but his potential as a hero is zero, for now."
"And.. why did you expel him in the first place?" asked All Might as the homeless looking teacher, who was finishing his "snack", tossing the jelly container into a nearby trash can and continued to walk, with the large man following him.
"Because I saw his performance in the practical exam, while he did save a few people, the boy is a total pacifist, often running from the robots or having others take them down for him. On his application, it was stated he wished to be a rescue hero, which is all well and good and his quirk would be good at that, but even rescue heroes HAVE to fight or at least defend those they are saving, in the general course they can teach that mentality lot better than me drilling it into a nervous teenage, and putting his classmates in danger during training exercises if he hesitates."
"Then you must have an interest in this boy? To go so far and re-admit him?"
"No, I do that for all the students I 'expel'. Kids come into the school thinking that once they pass the practical exams it's going to be easy once they get into the hero course," Aizawa turned to look at All Might, his gaze serious as well as his tone, "I was not lying to them at how tough UA is going to make their lives, it is one of the hardest courses, we train heroes here harshly so that when they get into the field, they perform to the best of abilities. You should know this as well, being a graduate yourself 'Yagi Toshinori'."
All Might froze at this, his smile faltered for but a moment as he looked dead in the eyes of his 'senpai', frowning, "How do you know my real name?"
"Aside from looking at past yearbooks to find a younger version of you? I saw you train the Midoriya boy during the last week, and no, I wasn't spying on you. I was passing by Gym Gamma and overheard him calling you by your name. Nezu filled me in on the rest after I confronted him about it, especially after he removed one of MY hand-picked choices over to Vlad King." Aizawa frowned back at him, not giving All Might an inch despite how much taller the man was to him, but then he sighed and crossed his arms, "Nezu already had me swear not to reveal your "true" form and also provided the reason moving Bakugo Katsuki out of my class, while I'm not happy about it, I see the logic in it." finished Aizawa as All Might slowly backed off and sighed, rubbing the back of his head.
"I am sorry, Aizawa, but I wished to keep my true form a secret until after the first day, the plan was to tell the teaching staff should something happen for me to miss a class."
"Well, you are a teacher now, and you will have to put the needs of your students over "hero-ing", but the people still need the 'Symbol of Peace', so don't slack off on teaching because of it. Also, if I find you "playing favorites" with Midoriya… we WILL have a problem." Aizawa frowned before turning away and waving his hand to the number one, "Now, if you will excuse me… my better half is waiting for me."
All Might watched the shorter, ill-dressed scarfed man walk away, taking in his words in his thoughts underneath the campus lamp lighting up above him. 'While I didn't need to be reminded not to play favorites with young Midoriya, he is correct about my responsibilities as a teacher now. I just hope I will be good enough…' thought the muscled behemoth of a man before turning towards the parking lot where his truck was, stopping suddenly and looking back in the direction of the now gone homeroom teacher.
'Wait... His BETTER HALF?!'
Side note: Grammarly really seems to hate All Might's name and verbs that came after it! haha.
