Kane Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson

Kane took a deep breath, steeling his nerves, and zoomed into the center of the green, into the middle of the Bennett witch's spell.

If he were a normal hybrid, the spell would've carried onto him and likely killed him. But since he was immune to magic, the spell almost stopped. Not enough for it to stop affecting Klaus, still keeping him down wrestling with the pain.

Kane's eyes landed on his father, pale faced, sweating, fighting the pain.

Dying.

Klaus was dying.

And like clockwork, his switch flipped in the middle of that field.

"Stop!" Kane shouted. He met Elijah's eyes.

Of course, this was only supposed to be an act. Kane didn't want his father to die, but this over dramatic reaction was supposed to be far overplayed.

Now, with the last fifty years rushing at him, his reaction was very much real, and very much desperate.

He watched Elijah's face shift in shock, and he too found himself trying to look surprised.

"Elijah?" He asked, breathless. "This is your doing?"

Elijah's face dropped, and Kane could almost hear the anxiety creep into Stefan.

Kane was the key tonight, and he'd be damned if he let his father die now that he had his humanity back.

"Everett..." Elijah trailed off.

Kane let his anger boil.

"How could you?" He shouted.

Elijah braced himself for his nephew's wrath.

"After everything that's happened between you?" Kane started again. "He's still your brother, Elijah!"

Kane dropped to his knees, bottling his rage and replacing it with despair, pushing all his pain from the last fifty years into his voice.

Tears poured from his eyes.

"My father."

Elijah rushed to Kane' side at vamp-speed, embracing his nephew.

"How could you?" Kane asked again, letting his head drop to Elijah's shoulder.

Elijah clasped the back of Kane's head, hushing him.

"Elijah." Stefan warned. "Don't."

Kane turned to Stefan then.

"And you." He growled. "After all the pain you've seen me go through over the years, trying to find Damon, and then my father, how is it that easy for you to take it away from me?"

Damon froze at the edge of the woods with Elena in his arms.

And then Kane switched to Bonnie.

"And a Bennett witch. How ironic."

Kane let some of his tears slip off his face, not even realizing that he was crying that hard.

"I'll take all three of you out."

Kane found it funny that she still hadn't realized her magic didn't work on him.

He was about to make a comment about it when Elijah tightened his grip on Kane, keeping him quiet.

"You'll die." Elijah said.

"I don't care." She shot back.

Elijah looked to Klaus, who was still writhing in pain on the ground.

"I'm sorry." Elijah said, likely directed to Bonnie.

Stefan ran for Klaus and Bonnie for Kane.

Elijah grabbed Klaus and was out of there before Stefan had barely moved a muscle. Kane ran in the opposite direction, hoping for a moment alone.

Elena would come back, he was sure of it. The werewolf, Tyler, was going to be fine, same as the blonde vampire, Caroline, her name was.

Stefan would probably hate him forever, but Kane didn't mind that so much. Maybe in a hundred years when Elena died from natural human causes, he would go back to being Kane's uncle rather than his enemy.

The Bennett witch would try to find some way to kill him.

Little does she know, Kane thought.

Alaric, the body Klaus had possessed for a short amount of time, lost his girlfriend in the ritual though, and Kane wasn't sure how that would go.

Damon, Kane hoped, would be understanding.

Kane found his way to Mystic Grill.

"Whiskey." He said, sitting at the bar. The teenage bartender looked at him suspiciously, and then poured Kane the ounce.

Kane tipped the glass for a minute, watching the amber colored liquid run to the side of the cup, and back to the other side.

"Are you going to play with it, or drink it?" Someone asked from behind Kane.

He turned to see Alaric standing next to him. He seemed rather upset, and Kane pretended not to know why.

"I was hoping I could get myself together without it." Kane admitted. "You know, alcoholic tendencies and all."

"You're like, sixteen." He said, and it occurred to Kane that Alaric had no idea who he was talking to. He'd barely noticed Kane in his apartment earlier today, and Alaric wasn't at the ritual when Kane outed himself as Klaus' son.

"I've seen a lot in my time."

Alaric smiled lightly and took a seat next to Kane. The bartender slid him a glass of bourbon.

"That makes two of us."

Kane raised an eyebrow at Alaric.

"Oh, yeah?"

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Alaric said, shaking his head.

"Try me." Kane said honestly, taking his first drink of the whiskey. At this point in his life, nothing Alaric said could phase him.

Alaric sighed.

"My wife became a vampire, because apparently marrying me wasn't enough for her, leaving me to believe she'd been killed by the man I now consider to be my best friend. Then, just when I was moving on with my girlfriend, my wife showed up and revealed the baby she'd had in high school before we met. That kid, who was being raised by my girlfriend, is a supernatural doppelganger and also my high school student. Then, my girlfriend was killed in some supernatural ritual, and now I'm facing the responsibility of raising two children, one of which is technically my step-daughter."

Kane raised his eyebrows again.

"A day in the life." He sighed.

"You don't seem surprised." Alaric said.

"I've seen a lot." Kane repeated.

"Then you know?" Alaric asked. "About the supernatural?"

"Everything about it." Kane said. "And you are lucky that I do, otherwise you'd just outed the lot of them to a clueless stranger, and you'd have no ability to do anything about it." Kane said, finishing his whiskey and letting the bartender fill it up again.

Alaric looked at him, a little in shock, a little in humor.

"Are you one of them? Vampire, werewolf, witch?" Kane smiled at him.

"Which one do you like the best?"

"Right now, none of them."

"Then for now, I am none." Kane said, and Alaric smiled.

"Okay."

Two days had passed and Kane had still heard nothing from his father.

He refused to show up on the door of the Salvatore house, especially right now.

Alaric had been staying at the Gilbert house with Elena and Jeremy, leaving his loft empty other than Katherine.

So, Kane had been staying there, waiting.

Of course, being alone with Katherine had both pros and cons, so Kane had been spending most of his time at the bar with Alaric.

Kane had his usual whiskey in hand, and Alaric was drinking bourbon, the same thing every day.

When the bartender came by to fill up his glass for the fourth time that day, Alaric took the whole bottle from her hand and walked back to their table.

Kane was laughing, having just witnessed the whole ordeal.

Alaric sat down at the table with a half smile, before his phone began to buzz.

He met Kane's eyes across the table, and then reached for the phone, answering it.

Kane kept his eyes locked with Alaric's, listening into the conversation.

"Sorry, you've reached somebody who's currently unavailable."

"I need you help." Kane heard Stefan say.

"You must've confused me with someone else. See, I'm not allowed to help. I just sit idly by while my girlfriend gets sacrificed on some alter of blood." Alaric shot back at Stefan.

Kane turned away at that, trying not to look as guilty as he felt, the guilt of the last fifty years trying to force it's way back in.

"Damon's dying."

And just like that, the guilt was buried as Kane's eyes shot to Alaric's.

"What?"

"Tyler Lockwood bit him. He doesn't have much time."

Alaric sighed again as the fury surfaced in Kane's stomach.

"What do you need?"

Alaric set the phone down.

"I'm going to kill that wolf." Kane growled.

"Let's just go look for ways to help." Alaric said, trying to guide Kane on a saner path.

"Ric." Kane said.

"Yeah?"

"I can help Damon." He said.

"Then what are you waiting for? Let's go." He said, standing.

Kane stood as well, holding his hands out.

"But it involves me explaining something to you, and I don't want it to change the way you feel about me."

Alaric looked at him, confused.

"Is this when you tell me you're a vampire? I already figured that, Kane, let's just go."

Kane stepped in front of his path again.

"I'm more than a vampire."

Alaric's eyebrows furrowed.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm a hybrid, Ric. Werewolf and vampire."

Alaric looked even more confused.

"I thought Klaus was the only hybrid?"

"He was." Kane said. "Until 1864."

Kane could tell that he'd lost Alaric.

"Klaus is my father." Kane said, and Alaric's face shifted with understanding. "I'm a genetic hybrid, meaning it's in my DNA to be a vampire, and I carry the werewolf gene. Twelve days after I was born, my mother died of complications during childbirth, and the next night, the first full moon after my birth, I transitioned into a wolf."

"You...you're-"

"A few weeks after that," Kane continued, cutting Alaric off before he could judge him too harshly. "Klaus gave me to Emily Bennett, Bonnie's ancestor, who gave me to Damon, who raised me as his own son. You're going to hear people call me Everett Salvatore, or Rhett, that's the name Emily gave me when she gave me to Damon. I introduced myself as Kane to you because I didn't want to lie to you, Ric. I'm not hiding anything."

Kane and Alaric had developed a friendship over the last couple of days, and Kane wasn't sure he was ready to give it up quite yet.

He hadn't had a friend like this since the sixties version of Stefan.

But Kane was nearly certain Alaric didn't feel the same way.

Ric stared at him for awhile, probably trying to root his hatred for Kane somewhere deep down.

"Come on." Alaric said finally. "I'll drive you."

Klaus Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson's Father

Klaus walked through the door of Alaric's apartment.

Kane hadn't heard from him since the ritual, and he figured he should at least let him know that Elijah hadn't decided to kill him.

"Klaus," Katherine said as he walked through the door. "Look who decided to come for a visit."

Stefan stood next to her.

"You people just keeping popping up, don't you?"

"I need your help." Stefan said.

"Whatever it is, it's going to have to wait." Klaus said. "You see, I made a deal with my brother."

"You understand the importance of family, otherwise you wouldn't be here. My brother gave me his word that he would reunite me with our family." Elijah said.

"And so I shall." Klaus said, turning to face Elijah and forcing a silver dagger through his chest.

Elijah's skin turned desiccated, and he dropped.

Then Klaus turned to Stefan and forced him against the wall.

"I spared your life once, for the sake of my son, and here you are, pushing your luck." Klaus pushed a stake through his chest.

"He's just trying to help his brother." Katherine said.

"The witches said you had a cure." Stefan said. "Make me some kind of deal. I'll do whatever you want."

Klaus pulled the stake from Stefan's chest.

"I'm not sure you'd be any use to me the way you are now." Klaus said. "You're just shy of useless."

Kane Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson

Kane and Alaric showed up at Damon's house. Kane followed him down to the cellar, where they stopped at the first door on the right.

"Well, that looks bad." Alaric said to Damon.

"Feels worse." Kane heard Damon say, though he couldn't see him.

Alaric pushed a glass of bourbon through the barred window of the cell, as well as Damon's daylight ring. Damon pushed himself up from the floor and grabbed both items from the window.

"That's good." He said, taking a drink from the bourbon. "By chance, you haven't seen a young boy, dirty blonde hair, about six foot, seventeen years old, have you?"

Alaric unlocked the door and pushed it open.

Kane stepped into Damon's view.

Damon's shoulders slumped in relief.

"You couldn't have showed up like, two days ago?"

"You couldn't have called?" Kane asked.

Then they both froze, hearing the voices and footsteps of several people above them.

"Elena." Damon said, and Kane shook his head, catching the scent of more people than just Elena.

"There's more than one." Kane said.

Alaric looked between the two of them, confused.

Kane turned to him rather calmly.

"Damon needs blood." He nodded his head toward the other end of the hallway.

Alaric raised an eyebrow, but turned toward the room at the end of the cellar hallway, where the blood bag freezer was.

"Go." Damon said to Kane as soon as Alaric was out of earshot. "If you stay, you'll out yourself to the entire council."

"You're not in control of yourself, Damon, I'm not leaving you alone."

"Rhett, go." Damon growled.

"No."

Damon huffed angrily, and turned away from Kane, into his cell.

"Where's Damon?" Kane heard a woman ask Alaric from down the hallway. He could smell the vampire all over her, even from there.

"Now really isn't a good time, Sheriff. Trust me."

Damon turned back around in the split second that Kane wasn't paying attention, and punching him square in the nose.

Kane's back hit the concrete wall and he crumbled, landing on his bottom, instinctively holding his nose as blood practically gushed down his face and chest.

"Over there!" One of the deputies shouted, gesturing toward Damon and Kane.

"I wouldn't go in there!" Alaric yelled at the deputy.

"I just want to talk to him." The sheriff said calmly, shutting and locking the door to the room Alaric was in.

Damon stood at the door of his cell while Kane tried to put his face back together.

The sheriff stepped over Kane's legs, almost in an attempt to shield him from Damon.

Kane glared at Damon, internally shaking his head.

"Liz." Damon said, and then threw the sheriff at the wall.

In that second, all of Kane's instincts sent him toward the sheriff, ensuring that she would be okay.

Damon took the chance and vamped out of there, but Kane had no desire to follow him right now. Damon would be fine for several more hours. The lingering scent of death wasn't nearly as strong on him as it was on some of the other vampires Kane had come across with werewolf bites.

"Dammit." Kane said, leaning back on his heels from the sheriff. She was fine in terms of health, she'd be awake and on the move in likely less than an hour, but Damon was now gone and the entire police department knew Kane was involved in the whole thing.

Assuming his father was still alive, he would not be happy.

"Dammit!" Kane repeated, louder.

His likely broken nose had healed, leaving nothing but the blood all down his face and shirt.

He could hear Alaric call Elena's brother, Jeremy.

"Is Elena with you?"

"No? She went to see Damon. Why?" Jeremy answered Alaric.

"He just escaped. I think he's looking for her, and the cops are after him, Jeremy. He's in pretty bad shape. If you find her, get her home."

Kane kicked open the door to the room Alaric was locked in.

Alaric saw the blood on his face and shirt and his face immediately fell.

"Oh no." He said.

"It's mine." Kane quickly reassured him.

"We need to find him." Alaric said. "The entire town is in the Town's Square tonight."

Kane nodded.

"I've already got a plan."

Klaus Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson's Father

Klaus crouched down in front of Stefan with a glass of blood in one of his hands.

"I heard of this one vampire, crazy guy, on and off the wagon for decades. And when he was off, he was magnificent. In 1917 he went to a migrant village in Monterrey and wiped it out. A true ripper. Sound familiar?"

"I haven't been that way in a long time." Stefan said.

"Too bad." Klaus said, standing. "That's the kind of vampire I can make a deal with."

Damon Salvatore - Baby Mikaelson's Godfather

3 year old Everett was running into the woods.

Damon followed him.

"Rhett?" He questioned when the child stopped at a tree.

Everett disappeared, and Jeremy took his place.

"Damon." He said calmly.

"Where's Elena?" Damon asked. "I need to see Elena."

"Come on." Jeremy said. "Let's get you out of here first."

Jeremy sat Damon in a chair at the Grill while he called Alaric to tell him that he'd found Damon.

Damon turned to see Sheriff Forbes pointing her gun at him.

He ran out of the room at vamp-speed, and the bullet took Jeremy in the chest.

Kane Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson

"You go through the front." Kane said to Alaric as they parked in front of the Grill. "I'll take the back way."

Kane vamp-speeded to the back, pushing through the back doors.

Caroline and Bonnie were in the Grill a second after, and Alaric came through the front entrance not a minute later.

Kane watched from a distance as the four of them tended to Jeremy, who'd very clearly been shot dead.

He had no heartbeat that Kane could here, but he wasn't close enough to them to pretend that he cared too much.

In fact, Damon was his immediate concern right now, and it wouldn't be long before that werewolf bite killed him.

Kane took off into the Town Square.

Damon Salvatore - Baby Mikaelson's Godfather

Damon stumbled around through the town.

"Damon." Elena said, grabbing his arm. "Come on, come on. We've got to get you out of here."

"Where are we going?" Damon asked Katherine.

"Everywhere!" She shouted excitedly.

"Damon." Elena said. "Hey, hey. Listen to me. Relax. We need to get you out of here."

Damon pushed Katherine against a post.

"Why must you always run from me?" He asked her.

"Because I know you will chase me." Katherine said.

"Let me chase you forever, Katherine." Damon said.

"Look at me, Damon. It's Elena, I'm Elena."

"Promise me you will not tell my brother." Damon leaned toward Katherine's neck.

"Damon, Damon. Stop."

"I have to, if we are to be together forever."

Damon bit into Elena's neck.

"Damon, you're hurting me."

Then he was pushed across the field.

Elena looked over to see a teenage boy sitting on Damon's chest.

"Damon!" He shouted.

"Rhett?" Damon asked.

The police showed up at the Grill.

Everett whipped his head towards the Grill, and then helped Damon to his feet.

"Come on." He said to Elena.

Kane Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson

They got Damon situated in bed, and Kane went into his room while Elena prepared herself for the worst.

He locked Damon's door and smiled at him.

"You know, this all could've been avoided if you'd just called."

"Shut up." Damon said.

Kane laughed lightly and sat on the edge of Damon's bed, pulling off the black jacket he was wearing, exposing his arms beyond the white t-shirt he was wearing.

"You know the drill."

He held his wrist out to Damon.

"You're outing yourself." Damon said. "They'll all hate you."

"Oh well." Kane said, forcing his wrist into Damon's mouth.

Damon struggled for a minute, and then grabbed Kane's forearm, holding him there as he bit into Kane's wrist.

After a minute, he pulled away, and Kane watched the dark veins of the werewolf bite retract and turn into nothing.

"You should clean up." Kane said. "Elena's here." Kane winked at Damon, who smiled, exhausted.

Kane left the room, closing the door behind him, and Elena stood there, waiting.

"Is he okay?" She asked. Kane smiled at her sympathetically.

"He'll be as good as new in a couple of hours."

"How did you-"

"I'll explain later." Kane interrupted her. "Right now, I think he wants to see you."

Elena smiled, and passed Kane, going into his room.

Kane watched her, and then closed the door behind her, making sure nobody went in.

Klaus Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson's Father

Stefan tossed the fifth blood bag into the pile that Klaus had been giving him in order to re-embrace his ripper side.

The deal; ten years of Stefan's service for the vial of blood that was going to save his brother's life.

"You're very willing." Klaus said. "Almost as if you were enjoying this."

Klaus tossed him another blood bag.

"No more." Stefan said. "Not until you give me the cure."

"Not until we make a deal, Stefan. Embrace who you truly are, leave town with me, and save your brother's life, or stay here."

"What about Everett? Isn't he enough company?"

Klaus turned cold.

"I am more than certain that he has no desire to leave this town quite yet." Klaus said.

Stefan picked up the blood bag angrily and ripped it open.

Klaus picked up the vial of blood and handed it to Katherine.

"Take this to Damon and come right back." He said, compelling her.

"You want me to leave?" She asked.

"No." Stefan said.

"Yes, and if I were you..." Klaus didn't even get to finish his sentence before Katherine was out of the room.

"I'd hurry." Klaus finished with a smirk.

Stefan slumped in his chair.

"She'll never take it to him."

Klaus turned to Stefan curiously, and Stefan looked down.

"She'll never take it to him."

Kane Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson

Kane wasn't so worried about outing himself until Katherine showed up with a vial of his father's blood.

Kane raised an eyebrow and pointed at his own wrist, and then at Damon's door.

Realization came to her face, though she seemed rather worried about whatever it was.

Kane opened the door just enough to see Elena kissing Damon.

His eyebrows shot up, since he was pretty sure she was dating Stefan.

Who Kane hadn't seen or heard from since the phone call to Alaric, now that he thought about it.

"Thank you." Damon said to Elena.

"You're welcome." She said back.

"You should be thanking me." Katherine said, forcing her way into the room. "But by the looks, you've already gotten better." She flashed the vial of Klaus' blood.

"What is that?" Elena asked.

"The cure." Katherine said with zero tact. "Klaus' blood is the cure."

Kane stood by the door subtly, trying not to attract an more attention.

"Klaus' blood? What? But, Rhett healed him already."

"Rhett?" Katherine asked, confused, turning to Kane.

Elena looked at him, confused.

"Where's Stefan?" She asked suddenly.

"He's paying for this." Katherine said, putting the vial in the palm of Damon's hand.

"What?" Damon asked.

"He gave himself over to Klaus. Wouldn't expect him back anytime soon."

"What?" Kane asked her.

All eyes turned to Kane.

"What's going on?" Elena asked, clueless.

Kane shifted.

"Maybe it's time we have that chat." He said, sitting in a chair.

"I don't have time for this. I want to be at least a thousand miles away from Klaus right now." And she left, vamping out of the room.

Kane turned to Elena and Damon, though this was not news for Damon.

"Klaus is my father."

Elena just about choked before she turned angry.

"So you've been playing us all night?"

"No." Kane said calmly, keeping his composure. "I didn't know that Stefan reached out to Klaus. I myself haven't hear from him since the ritual."

"You were a part of the ritual?" She asked, switching gears.

"My only part in the ritual was to stop my father from killing Klaus."

Elena's eyebrows furrowed.

"You can't be his son. Vampires can't have kids."

"Werewolves, on the other hand." Kane said. "They can. It doesn't make any sense to me, either, how it happened. The witches call me 'Miracle Baby Mikaelson', even now. I was born back in 1864."

Elena turned even more confused.

"Alright." Kane said, taking a deep breath. "We'll start from the beginning. I was born in November, 1864, in Wales. I am a genetic hybrid, which means it is in my DNA to be a vampire, and I carried the werewolf gene. My mother died twelve days after I was born, and on the next full moon, two nights later, I transitioned into a wolf. In January of 1865, Klaus, my father, gave me to Emily Bennett to protect me. She died a few months later in 1865, after the war was over, but only after teaching Damon how to raise a child, and giving me the alias of Everett Jacob Salvatore - Damon's son."

Elena turned to Damon.

"Damon and my father raised me together, though my father left periodically, because his father made it his life's mission to ensure Klaus would never be able to settle anywhere. In 1881, when I turned seventeen, I stopped getting older. My vampire senses heightened like I'd just been turned, and I was finally in full control of my werewolf shift. Klaus came and got me, and for the next one hundred and thirty-five years or so, I was floating around the globe, humanity on and off every other few years. I was one of the most bipolar vampires you'd ever meet."

"Still are." Damon chipped in.

"I came back to this town after learning that my father had figured out how to break his werewolf curse. It just so happened that my uncle was also here, plotting against him." Kane continued, ignoring Damon.

He turned to Elena.

"Klaus' blood flows through my veins. That's why my blood also works as the cure to a werewolf bite."

Elena looked between Kane and Damon.

"Where is Stefan now?"

Klaus Mikaelson - Baby Mikaelson's Father

"I suppose he's been reunited with our family." Klaus said, closing the coffin he'd put Elijah's body into.

Two men came and grabbed the coffin.

"Put him with the others." Klaus said, turning to Stefan.

He was looking at his phone, likely waiting for the text that Damon was okay.

"Did Katerina make it in time?"

Stefan looked up at him.

"Not sure. You know she's not coming back, right?"

"Because she's on vervain? Yes, Stefan. I've been around a very long time. I hardly ever get taken for a fool. And, I have a tendency to be more prepared than you think."

Stefan turned a questioning look on Klaus, who smiled.

"I find it hard to believe that my son would allow for his only other parent to die from something that takes less than a second for him to fix. Or that Damon would be so proud as to not ask for Kane's help."

Stefan's vampire face emerged in rage.

"Katherine didn't need to bring him the blood." He realized. "I didn't need to come find you."

"Not at all." Klaus confirmed. "Katerina told me that Kane has been spending a lot of time with Alaric the past couple of days. I'm sure that Kane has known for awhile. Damon might have even been cured before you showed up at the apartment today."

Stefan growled.

"You played me."

Klaus shrugged.

"Unless, of course, Kane never heard about Damon's bite and Katerina made it to him with the cure in time."

Stefan checked his phone again, and there was the text from Elena.

"Damon's okay. Where are you?"

Then Klaus pulled his phone from his own pocket.

He smiled, flashing Stefan the caller ID.

Then he answered the call.

"Kane." He greeted cheerfully. "How is everything?"

"Where have you been?" Kane growled at him in a hurried whisper.

"Leaving a trail of bodies across Virginia." Klaus said. "Embracing being a hybrid again."

Stefan heard Kane's angry sigh.

"And what about Stefan? What's that about?"

"He made a deal to save his brother's life."

"I saved his brother's life." Kane barked at him. "Katherine would've been too late."

Klaus met Stefan's eyes.

"Well, that's unfortunate."

"What are you doing?" Kane asked. "There's no way this is all over."

"You'll see, in time." Klaus said.

"Dad-" Kane started before Klaus hung up on him.

He looked at Stefan.

"Kids, am I right?"

"I see." Stefan said. "So Elijah was the glue to your family. Without him, you're distancing yourself from your own kid."

Klaus turned cold again, and Stefan realized that no matter how much he tried to show people differently, Kane was Klaus' weakness, even if he was the only one.

And a plan began to form in Stefan's head.
