Kenny let out a sigh as he pulled himself from underneath the RV. It was hot as hell outside today, and patching up a leak wasn't exactly how he wanted to spend it. But everyone had to pull their weight in the gang, including him. He usually skipped out on chores like cooking and cleaning, but the trade off was that everything involving heavy lifting or basic repair was all on him.
Not that he minded too much. Call him old fashion, but if he had to choose between watching dishes and changing car batteries, he'd pick what he considered 'man's work' every time. He grabbed a rag from the table nearby and began wiping his hands off. "Everything look good boss?" Flannery asked as she made her way out of the RV, handing him a bottle of cold water.
The man gladly took, cracking it open and downing half of it in one go. "Thank you kindly Flannery. And it's just a patch job, but it should hold until we get it to the next town and I can get it looked at proper. Ya'll ready to go?" he asked.
"Bonnie and Sue are all set, but Jorie went out somewhere a bit ago," she said leaning back against the door. "Seems like she's been a bit out of sorts since that last job."
Kenny hummed. Yeah, after what happened he could see why she would be a bit prickly right now. The job had gone smoothly and all, but she'd supposedly screwed up. "That right? I'll go fetch her then. Mind packing up and getting ready to go? We're gonna need to get moving if we're gonna make it on time for our next job."
Flannery nodded, and Kenny gave her a kiss on the cheek before turning and heading off. He had a feeling he knew where Jorie would head. There was a nice little spot they had passed earlier that would make for a nice shooting range.
Having known her the longest out of all the girls, he knew Jorie better than anyone. And it went the other way around too. Whenever she was upset or pissed, the girl always found a nice place to set up some targets and go shooting.
Sure enough, as he got closer he could hear the unmistakable sound of gunfire in the distance. He smirked as he saw Jorie standing near the edge of a lake, rifle raised and taking aim at one of the many bottle set up across from it. "Well, ain't you a sight," he said walking up behind her. "You know, I don't think you ever look sexier then when you're shooting."
She hummed before taking another shot. "You don't have to cheer me up Kenny…"
He clicked his tongue. The girls usually called him boss rather than Kenny. It wasn't like they never used his name ever, but depending on when and what they used it in, he knew if there was a problem. And right now, there definitely was.
"C'mon now Jorie. I know when you ain't feeling yourself. I knew the moment we got back you were beating yourself up over what happened. It ain't nothin' to stress over."
"I missed…" she said, narrowing her eyes in annoyance. She lowered the rifle and began to reload it. "I'm the sniper. I ain't supposed to miss."
"Jorie, the little bastard had super speed. It ain't like you knew."
"It doesn't matter. I still should got him."
Kenny sighed. Jorie wasn't exactly the strict sort. That was more Flannery's thing. But the girl did have a lot of pride in her shooting skills, and when she missed it really bugged. Of course her missing only happened one in a blue moon, but that didn't make her any less annoyed about it.
She raised the rifle and took aim again, and Kenny stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her. He rested his chin on her shoulder, closing one eye to try and guess what she was aiming at. "Relax…" he whispered.
"I am relaxed."
"No you ain't," he said amused. "What I tell you about shooting when you're all tense like this? It ain't gonna do nothing but throw you off. Relax, take a breath." She was still for a moment, but then let herself relax, untensing her muscles. "There we go," Kenny said nodding. "Just like old times, ain't it?"
She couldn't help but smile as she thought back to when they were younger. As a kid, she remembered being such a terrible shot when she started. Her father hadn't exactly been willing to help. Hadn't thought his little girl should be trying her hand at shooting in the first place.
But Kenny… well, she didn't know what exactly it was that made him think it, but he just seemed to know she had some talent for it. It had only taken a few lessons before she'd gotten herself together, and before she knew it she was winning competitions left and right. And even the ones where she'd beaten him, Kenny always seemed happy for her.
Of course, as they'd gotten older he still felt the need to give her advice. Most of which was just an excuse to get close to or wrap his arms around her like this. She never too much minded. She liked being close to him too.
He ran one of his hands up and down her thigh. "You relaxed?" he muttered, his breath tickling the back of her ear.
She nodded. "Yeah…"
"Good…" He brought his hand back and gave her a pat on the butt. "Shoot." She pulled the trigger, and one of the bottles across the lake shattered into pieces. Kenny chuckled before giving her rear another pat. "Again." She fired once more, and this time a tin can a few feet away from the first target went flying.
Jorie kept shooting, knocking out target after target. She flawlessly nailed each one, not showing a moment's hesitation. Before long she had taken out every target set up, and Kenny smirked. "There you go. That's my badass little sharp shooter," he said, giving her a smack on the butt. "You feel better?"
"A little…" she said, now smiling.
He reached up and then cupped her chin, turning his face towards her. "Listen here Jorie, I ain't never met a single shot better than yours. Myself included. So don't you go fretting just because you missed once or twice. You always make the shot when it counts, and that's all that matters. You hear?" he asked.
She nodded. "Loud and clear boss." She leaned up and kissed him, and he gladly returned the gesture, pulling her closer. They went at it for a bit, before finally having to break off for air.
"You ready to get going then?"
Jorie hummed. "Not sure, boss. I think I still feel just a tiny bit depressed," she said deviously reaching up and pulling teasingly at her top. "Maybe there's just a little ole tad bit more you can do to help cheer me up?"
Kenny smiled and smirked down at her before he started taking his jacket off. "You never miss your shot when it counts Jorie, you never do…"
A/N: Super short one-shot with Kenny and Jorie. Just felt like doing a little something for them. Maybe I'll do a one-shot with Kenny and all the girls at some point. And maybe something a little more saucy too...
