"Thank you, that'll be 100 gil," I said cheerfully to the older man who paid me the money for two potions. It had been pretty uneventful lately. I ordered the gloves I needed to modify, took Tifa on a few dates, and networked in the city as I tried to find people to join AVALANCHE. So far, that route had no leads. Everything else was fine, though. I dropped the gill in my drawer behind the desk, as there's no cash register in here, and stood there with a blank smile on my face as the man left. Honestly, work was boring. I hated retail when I was on Earth, and I hate retail now. The amount of people begging for free stuff is absurd.
Just then, another person walked in. The red hair, fancy jacket and shirtless body gave it away immediately. "Hey Johnny, what's up?" I was feeling cautious. I didn't want to put this kid in his place again.
He just glares a little, pouting as he crosses his arms. "I'm sorry man," He finally mumbles, looking away. Gosh, he's such a child. "And… And I wanna buy some materia." He finally adds. "Fire materia."
Fire costs 600 gil. Do I really want to sell to him though? "1000 gil," I finally reply calmly. My fingers drum an idle beat on the counter. Just under it, my steel staff is ready. His eyes bulge out of his head.
"O-ONE THOUSAND!?" He cries out, "Man, that's robbery!" He kicks his feet and keeps going on, but I just stand there staring at him. Eventually, he forks over the cash, and I hand him the small green orb. He curses under his breath and leaves. Good riddance.
I decide I don't want to be here anymore. I hide the money away in various locations and then go and turn the water spout off. I don't want it to suddenly turn on. I check the giant heater next to it and its fine too. I turn off the lights after grabbing my things, and lock the door as I leave. Working here has made me a lot of money, but I don't enjoy it. Still, it's a necessary job. I check my materia to make sure I'm ready. I have an all and a bolt on the left glove, and an all and a restore on the right glove. I have steal equipped on the steel staff, which can't hold more than that. I guess that makes it a steal staff then. Having 5 materia doesn't tax me like it used to. Feeling the weird effects it has on my body still throws me off a little, but nothing like it used to.
I head out of the sector, ready for the day. Hopefully, I'll find some help soon. I slowly make my way to the train station. As I go, I come across a young man beating the absolute shit out of a Vice member. The dude's unconscious but this guy is just wailing on him, tears pouring down his face. I run off to him and drag him off the scum bag. It's a young man with spiky black hair tied up by a red headband. He's wearing a green outfit.
"Hey man, hey! That's enough. He's dead." I say, shaking the angry man. He focuses his eyes, turning to me. Tears are still streaming down his face.
"They killed her! They fucking killed her!" He screams at me, before collapsing forward, sobbing. I hug the man, tubbing circles into his back. I'm pretty concerned at this point. Slowly, he lets it all out, then begins to open up. "These fuckers sold my sister out. She… She had a penchant for getting where she didn't belong. SHINRA," He spits the word, "put a bounty on her location and they fucking sold her out. She's dead and it's their fault." He kicks at the corpse, which is all he can do at this angle.
That was harsh. Still, looks like this guy had a grudge against SHINRA. "Shit man," I start, shaking his shoulder, "I don't know what to say. But that guy's dead. And I kill or run off most Vice I see, the scum bags. But if you want to fight… If you need to fight, then come to the 7[sup]th[/sup] Heaven in sector 7 tonight. You'll want to meet a few people." I help him to his feet and hold out my left hand, "I'm Daniel."
"Biggs," he says as she shakes my hand. "And I'll be there. Believe me." My eyes widen, and I guess he thinks it's because of his dedication or something, but it's because I'm in shock. All this time and Biggs falls into my lap, basically. I had no clue he even had a sister. Fuck. Just another thing I couldn't help. I thought he and Wedge were a package deal, but I guess I was wrong. Unless he brings him with him or something. Either way, I'm one step closer to canon now. Ah man, this is bizarre.
After making sure he's okay, I check him over one last time. "Where's your weapons, man? It's dangerous to go alone out here." I frown at him. He looks a little bashful, face still red from crying.
"Ah, I lost it guy. I had a gun, but it's gone." I wordlessly take my bolt materia and hand it to him. It's only one of my first level ones, but he still gets wide eyed. "What are you doing? I can't take that!"
"Take it," I command, "and give it back tonight if you feel like you need to. I'll see you there." I leave, headed back to sector 7. He just stands there, staring at my back. This was a bit much more me.
Back in sector 7, I swiftly make my way to the bar. Entering it, I see Tifa busy with lots of work. I make my way to her and greet her with a brief kiss. She smiles at me and keeps moving, delivering drinks to patrons. "Hey, where's Barret?" I ask. I figure Marleen is in the back room, but I need to let the big guy know I got us a recruit. "I found someone to join us. He'll stop by tonight."
"Oh!" She says, eyebrows raised up. "I'm not sure where he went, but I'll let him know. Thanks for stopping by, too," She smiles at me and I smile back. I leave. She's too busy to bother for long. I can hang out with her later. There's going to be a big meeting tonight.
