September, the month she'd been dreading, rolled in before Lily knew it, and the redhead found herself, on the first of the month, getting up at her normal school time, dressing, and slipping out of her apartment with practiced efficiency, because, although she'd dreaded the day, school prep had officially begun, and she had not enough days to accomplish everything she knew would need to be done before term started.
Although it was true that she'd spent her summer selfishly falling in love with an admittedly kind of fucking perfect guy, and she hadn't given a single thought to her syllabus for the next year at her primary job, Lily felt pretty at ease heading into school. It wasn't her first year of teaching, where she'd been a wreck and barely able to hold herself together if anyone of authority spoke directly to her. She knew what to expect, and had gotten comfortable in her career, and it certainly didn't hurt that the increase in orgasms lately had definitely boosted her emotional state to the point she was in a chipper mood and wouldn't have to fake it. Sure, she might have to put in some focused effort into getting her curriculum in order, but Lily was quite certain it wouldn't be too difficult.
She was in such a good mood, in fact, that when the principal called to her after stepping from the office into the corridor behind her, she turned to face him patiently with a smile instead of feigning deafness and hightailing it home. Even if she was looking forward to heading back out to her Jeep with the hope she'd get back to find her lover still in bed, preferably ready to get laid yet again.
"Not that it's any of my business," Tim Spearow said, his dark blue eyes meeting hers once he'd caught up to her, and looking awkward, which instantly put the redhead on edge. "Of course, your home life is no one's business but your own, Miss Potter, certainly, but if, ah… Perhaps if you could, um…"
Lily had no idea what the man, who looked flustered impossibly more now that he'd begun speaking, might be getting at, and though she had a sinking feeling in her gut it wouldn't be good, she was perplexed, and wished he'd just damn well spit it out. "I'm sorry, Mr. Spearow, but I don't know what you're trying to say, and I'd really like to-" Lily began in as polite a tone as she could muster, while her school's principal all but blushed and kicked the toe of his shoe against the ground awkwardly.
"I know you're aware of the dress code, Miss Potter, and I've never had cause to speak up about anything related to it with you before," he finally said, having seemingly resigned himself to just saying whatever he had to. "But I'd like to tell you that inflammatory markings should be properly concealed and unable to be seen by a potential student, or their parent, should you deem them to be necessary at all."
Lily could only stare back at him for a moment in confusion, not quite getting it, but the second it clicked, she was certain instantaneous combustion would've been preferable. She blushed hard as horror coursed through her, feeling her face all but bursting into an inferno of guilt and horror and shame and embarrassment, not to mention utter humiliation. He coughed delicately, now blushing thoroughly with her, and his eyes dropped to her clavicles, that were barely peeking over her blouse's neckline, but where she knew Scorpius had left a distinct love bite just above, on either side, the night before. She had to hold back the urge to breathe out an expletive when she exhaled roughly, never having been more mortified she was certain. "Understood, Mr. Spearow," she said, nodding and gulping, sure her face could cook an egg and reaffirming the little voice, which had recently been drowned out by pure bliss and happiness, that said Scorpius was all wrong for her life. "Completely. It won't happen again."
"Perfect," he said, nodding, looking equally relieved and still painfully awkward, clearing his throat again. "See you on the first day, then, Miss Potter. Enjoy your weekend."
The redhead all but ran away at the dismissal, wanting to flee the country and change her identity at once as she hurried out to her Jeep, and spent a good thirty seconds shouting, once ensconced in her vehicle, with her hands over her face. It didn't help with the embarrassment, and she picked up her phone, texting her blond boyfriend, the man she'd never meant to have become anything remotely serious, a slurry of curse words and angry face emojis that made her feel marginally better.
By the time she got back to her parking lot, she was feeling almost less horrified, which wasn't saying much, because she still doubted she could ever look the principal of her school in the eyes again, and Scorpius had responded to her text.
Gotta admit, if I don't get to wake up to that mouth of yours doing other things, I'll settle for a good cussing out anytime, babe. Bring breakfast back. I want the cussing out in person now, but coffee wouldn't hurt either.
And although she knew it would never work out long term, and she was being an utter fool by letting herself love a man who was not only out of her league to the point he'd probably never feel the same about her, but not even remotely a good fit for her life, Lily couldn't help but smile. Because damn it all, Scorpius was sweet, and funny, and unbelievably charming when he wanted to be, and she fucking loved him already.
Sorry pumpkin, no coffee or breakfast, but I've got one good cussing out prepared. Brace yourself, she texted back, smirking a tiny bit, then let herself into her building and all but ran up the stairs to her flat. She grinned to herself as she got to her front door, knowing a sleepy, sexy Scorpius, complete with morning wood, was ready and waiting for her to verbally dress him down, then physically do it, if he'd bothered to get dressed yet, and fuck him into next week. She unlocked the door hastily, then grinned wider still as she heard the shower running down the hall, undressing as she followed the sound of rushing water beating against hard muscle. A sneak attack would be even better, she was positive, because that would leave room for some angry, fury-fuelled sex after her humiliation at school, and then the makeup sex after they finished showering would be, undoubtedly twice as good.
Two weeks later saw Lily, grudgingly, and after a half dozen last kisses and some very wandering hands on Scorpius's part, shoving her fling-turned-something-more, as they hadn't discussed just what they were doing yet in so many words because Lily was a coward, out her front door. She had her first day of school in the morning, and while she wouldn't at all mind having her sexy blond man stay over for the night, fucking her twelve ways to Sunday, in sin and utterly sinfully to boot, she was also terrfied something might happen like it had when she'd gone in to start prepping her classroom before term started. Her cheeks flushed just thinking and remembering her mortification. No, the absolute last thing she needed or wanted was to have a gaggle of pre-teen and teenage girls, all of whom were petty, snobby, and viciously curious about everything concerning boys, notice that she might have a goddamned hickey on her neck. Or anywhere else for that matter.
So she locked her door behind Scorpius, who pouted almost adorably enough to override her common sense, yet again, but in the end, smiled, kissed her a final time, and told her he'd pick her up at three thirty the next afternoon. She'd nodded, still reeling from the kiss a tiny bit, and told him she'd be waiting.
Now, the redhead was all but certain she'd made an error having her not-quite-boyfriend and definitely-not-husband picking her up at a Catholic school, but she shoved her fears aside, brushing them off without too much effort, and got ready for bed. Yet, as a result of sleeping alone after not having done so in so long it had become foreign, Lily found herself, once she was tucked in and ready to head off to sleep, unable to do so.
No doubt, she thought wretchedly, as she stared at the inside of her eyelids, fuming after only a few minutes, she'd be sleeping like a baby if she'd not been an utter fool and allowed Scorpius to leave, and in fact all but kicked the man out, and he'd been there to fuck her into incoherency. There was no doubt whatsoever that she'd at least be enjoying the wind down to eventual slumber far more if she'd simply let Scorpius stay, and even if she did put her foot down, and refuse to fuck him, at least he'd be there, something warm and solid to curl up against and fall to sleep.
She shook her head, hating that she already felt the longing pangs for Scorpius, because he'd so seamlessly become a part of her life, enmeshed in all of it, and she had no idea how to even try to cut him out. There was no way. He'd been to dinner with her parents, then she'd had dinner with both of his, they'd done just about everything Lily could think might put strain on a relationship, and yet… No. Not allowed. You know he was never meant to be long term. Even if the blond was, quite literally, the perfect match for her, and Lily was certain that no one else she'd ever dated had felt quite as right as the tall, handsome blond.
She knew it, but there was still a part of her, a rather large part, that couldn't resist imagining just what it could be, maybe, someday, or perhaps in some other universe. If maybe she just threw caution to the wind and simply allowed this wonderful, sexy, and perfect man, in every way for her at least, to sweep her entirely off her feet and fall in love with him, and make it work.
The redhead growled in frustration, punching her pillow as she rolled over and tried to find a comfortable position, even while considering just texting Scorpius to come over. Needless to say, it was much later than she'd have preferred before Lily managed to finally fall asleep, and she found her alarm came far too early in the morning for her liking.
Several hours after the rude awakening, Lily felt herself starting to grin, even as she heard her phone buzzing, after being put on vibrate only throughout the school day, atop her desk in the tiny office she'd been grudgingly gifted upon her hiring as the sole member of the Arts Department. She didn't bother to check the notification as she snatched the device up, even though she was only partway through the stack of Get to Know Me sheets from her new and returning students, eager to see if Scorpius was the one texting her.
She'd, quite happily, quickly completed looking over the sixth grader sheets, her newest students, who had been rambunctious and chatty in class even on the first day, and Lily had almost finished the seventh grade pile, who had at least proven matured from the year before. She still had the menacing stacks of eighth and ninth grade sheets to comb through, but couldn't help grinning at Scorpius's text.
It's three thirty one, so you're late, babe. You officially owe me, and I expect to collect tonight, unless you've made other plans. In that case, cancel them, because you damn well owe me. Now hurry up in there!
Grinning, she didn't even bother to send a reply, simply shoving the stack of papers she had yet to finish going over into her bag, and Lily tried to smother her shit eating grin as she strode out of her office after locking up swiftly. Breathing a sigh of relief, Lily let herself smile once more as she pushed out of the front doors and came across no one else.
Her heart sunk as she scanned the immediate front parking for Scorpius's dark blue Jaguar and found it empty, but she told herself he may have pulled around to the back lot, and hurried around the building, hoping she wouldn't have to see any students or their parents, despite the bell having rung a good twenty five minutes previous. The redhead was instantly aware of three things when she rounded the corner of her school, where the back parking lot was located.
The first was that Scorpius's Jaguar was absolutely nowhere in sight, or even in the parking lot. The second was that there were most definitely some girls, who looked much older and were probably in their final year, still hanging about in the lot, perhaps waiting for parents or simply socializing. And the third thing, the one thing that made Lily's step falter and her breath come short, while her heart picked up in double time and her mouth began to water, was that Scorpius was there on his damnably sexy motorcycle. She gulped, appreciating not for the first time how unbearably attractive he looked with his helmet hanging from the handlebars and his phone in hand, blond hair falling over his face, leather jacket and jeans all but moulded to his perfect physique.
And Lily was all but certain the reason most of the girls were still hanging about, judging by the whispers and giggling and only semi-covert pointing, was the tall, ripped, and sexy blond waiting in the parking lot for her on his motorcycle. Scorpius was all but dripping with bad boy appeal, and was definitely the sort of guy the redhead was positive the girls' parents had warned them to stay clear of. But now there Lily was; unmarried and only surfacely religious, about to meet up with this man who would take her away to do God only knew what, at least in those girls' dreams, and probably even more in reality. The most sensible and prudish part of her whispered not to do anything foolish, because she couldn't afford to lose her job, while her heart wanted to run to him and jump him. She gulped, licked her lips, and then adjusted her bag on her shoulder before walking with sure and yet demurely paced steps to Scorpius, trying all the while to act casual and normal and like she wasn't being side eyed by half a dozen fourteen year olds.
"Hey," the blond said, glancing up and smiling at her arrival, looking pleased, and Lily blushed ever so slightly, but smiled back. Part of her couldn't resist tracing the perfect lines of him astride the lovely piece of machinery between his legs, admiring his blatant masculinity, and the bulges of muscles beneath his clothes, as well as his outright, just general, scorching hotness, knowing just how perfect he would look naked. The other part forced her eyes swiftly back to his face, trying, and probably failing if she was being honest, to conceal just how badly simply looking at him made her want him.
"Hey," she replied, unsure if she should kiss him or not with her students looking on, but her pulse kicked into overdrive as Scorpius swung a leg over his bike and stood to hand her the passenger helmet. And the thought of not kissing him was unbearable, if only for the pettiest part of her to be mollified she'd staked her claim, and the dangerously romantic side of her to be utterly fulfilled at the knowledge he'd all but positively kiss her back with devastating skill. So she lifted onto her toes after he'd pulled her close, and kissed him firmly on the lips, one hand sliding into his hair as the other instinctively gripped his shoulder.
"Good first day, I'll take it," Scorpius rumbled between fevered kisses, and Lily, who had all but forgotten her little audience, grinned back at the tall, gorgeous blond as she finally pulled herself back properly, recalling with a fierce blush that she was technically still at school, and she was supposed to show at least a modicum of the barest amount of decency. And she seriously doubted snogging a sexy stranger in the parking lot qualified in that regard. Not to mention she might get in some serious trouble if any of the girls ratted her out to their parents and they chose to complain and kick up enough stink… This is why it won't work. She shushed the traitorous voice, but pulled, only slightly abruptly, away from Scorpius all the same, trying to remain composed, sighing when he didn't seem to think it weird.
"Pretty good, all things considered," she agreed, taking the helmet at last and donning it, blushing a tiny bit as Scorpius leaned in to buckle it for her, looking amused and kissing her chastely enough once more that she pouted ever so slightly on instinct. "How was yours?" she added, if only to be polite, even as Scorpius donned his own helmet and Lily put her bag across her body securely.
"Absolute shit, to be honest," Scorpius replied tersely, then flashed her a stunning grin, even as she bit her tongue at the reminder to not swear, because they were technically still on school property. "But it's gotten significantly better in the last ninety seconds. Ready to go?"
Lily's breath caught a little as he swung one leg over the bike, struck yet again by just how very handsome this man before her was, and how unbearable the thought was of doing what she knew had to happen, and probably soon. It was a stark realization from the second she climbed on the bike behind Scorpius, holding tight, as he revved it to life beneath them, and then glanced back at the girls who all stared openly at her, then immediately began whispering behind hands the second Lily and Scorpius sped by. And that realization hurt.
She buried her face in Scorpius's back, hating that she had to fight down the urge to cry, and focused on breathing, slow and even, trying to hold together her heart, even as it began to crack. She couldn't do it, not right then. Lily wouldn't be able to break up with the one man who, despite it all, fit her just right, and with whom she finally felt complete. Not just like the other half of something, but that his presence in her life simply filled it to bursting with pleasure and happiness, far more than anyone else ever had. Although the redhead knew the day of reckoning was closer than ever, looming just out of sight in the near future, she couldn't bring herself to break things off just yet. Selfish. Lily knew that was true, she was being selfish, and that she was probably going to wind up hurting Scorpius too, but she told herself until she had to, she could put off the inevitable.
