Chapter Eight

Another Modern AU. Takes place after the suicide attempt.
(Adora's POV)
It's been about a month since Becky attempted suicide. She's since returned to school, and, even though Veronica has seemingly turned over a new leaf, old habits die hard, and she's gone back to bullying Becky.
It all began with Veronica purposefully tripped Becky in the cafeteria. Catra was quick to catch our girl, but it only got worse from there.
"Got one of your many girlfriends to catch you, huh, polyfreak? This isn't over." Before we can stop her, Veronica tapes a piece of paper on Becky's back with Becky's trigger word on it, telling people to say it in front of her.
Before anyone can even think of uttering the trigger word, we're quick to remove the piece of paper and throw it in the trash.
But it's too late. Veronica started a whisper train, probably telling everyone to say the word in front of Becky.
People start chanting the trigger word and Becky immediately covers her ears, but that doesn't help. Bow, Glimmer, Catra, Perfuma, Scorpia, Spinnerella, Netossa, Double Trouble, and Entrapta and I are the only ones not chanting.
Catra and I move to get her outside the range of the chanting students, but security stops us.
"Please. Our girlfriend is about to have a really bad anxiety attack. She needs to get out of here." I say.
"Go ahead."
Glimmer and Bow follow us, Becky's purse and backpack with them.
We take Becky upstairs where the chanting is out of earshot. She slides down the wall, tears streaming down her cheeks, her breathing sporadic.
"Glimmer, call your mom." Catra tells Glimmer.
"I'm on it." Glimmer walks a few feet away from us to privately talk with her and Becky's mom, Angella.
We try to get Becky's breathing back under control, but to no avail.
"Mom wants to know how bad the anxiety attack is." Glimmer says. Becky is in no state to answer, so I answer for her.
"It's the worst anxiety attack we've ever seen her have." I say, stroking back Becky's hair as Catra does her best to help her get her breathing back to normal.
"We should get her to the hospital. They'd be able to help her." Bow says.
"And have her relive her suicide attempt?"
"She needs help, Adora. Serious help. And we can't do anything she needs done."
"So what can we do?"
"Get a teacher, a counselor, the principal. An adult that can help her."
"I'm such an idiot."
"Glimmer?" Bow asks.
"My mom is the school counselor. I'll just tell her where we are and she can find us and help Becky." Glimmer turns her back to us to give Angella our location in the school. We're by the auditorium.
About two agonizing minutes later, Angella shows up and kneels before Becky.
"Give her to me."
I pass Becky to her adoptive mom, and Angella begins humming a lullaby to her.
A few minutes pass before Becky's breathing gets back to normal.
"We should get her home. I'll tell Principal Lightspinner what's occurred here."
"S-sorry."
"Shhh. You've done nothing wrong, sweetheart. I'm sure of it. Now, Adora, tell me exactly what occurred."
"I can't…not with Becky here. What occurred has to deal with her trigger word."
"Alright. I'll take Becky home and leave her with Micah. Then I'll come back to the school and you can tell me exactly what occurred."
(Normal POV)
Angella drives Becky home after telling Micah about the situation, and he's there to greet them when Angella pulls in the driveway. Angella helps Becky out of the car and passes her over to her adoptive father.
"Make sure she's alright. I'll be back after school lets out. Becky, sweetheart?"
"Y-yes, M-mama?"
"I'll be back after school is over. And I'll bring Catra and Adora with me. You get some rest. I'm so sorry you had that anxiety attack."
"T-thank you, M-mama."
"You're welcome."
Angella leaves Becky with Micah, who escorts Becky inside. He makes her a cup of hot cocoa and sits with her on the couch after getting her baby blanket. Micah wraps his adoptive daughter up in a blanket from the back of the couch and leans her into him so she can hear his steady heartbeat.
(Adora's POV)
When Angella comes back, Catra and I tell her and Principal Lightspinner exactly what occurred with Veronica, the tripping, the piece of paper, and the chanting of Becky's trigger word.
"Was there anyone not chanting besides you four?" Principal Lightspinner asks.
"Perfuma, Scorpia, Spinnerella, Netossa, Double Trouble, and Entrapta were the only ones not chanting besides us. Everyone else was. Is our girlfriend going to be okay?" Catra asks.
"I don't know, to tell you the truth. But I'm sure being with her friends and her girlfriends will help speed up the healing process." Angella tells us.
"Thank you for telling us what's occurred. We'll be sure Veronica will be thoroughly punished for doing what she's done, especially for Rebekah's suicide attempt last month." Principal Lightspinner says.
"You may get back to your classes. Glimmer, I'll meet you and Catra and Adora in front of the school so Becky can have some time with her girlfriends at home."
"Thank you. For everything."
"You're welcome." After school lets out, Glimmer, Catra and I meet Angella at the front of the school so we can all go to Glimmer and Becky's house to spend time with our girl.
