Ch.8: Kristoff, Olaf & The Ice Palace
In the second shed, Kristoff and Sven the reindeer were getting ready to go to sleep. "Reindeers are better than people Sven, don't you think that's true?" Kristoff asked his reindeer friend.
"Yeah, people will beat you and curse you and cheat you. Every one of them is bad, except you," he said in a different voice for Sven.
"Aw. Thanks, buddy," Kristoff complimented himself and petted his friend. "But people smell better than reindeers. Sven, don't you think I'm right? That's once again true. For all, except you. You got me. Let's call it a night. Don't let the frostbite," Kristoff said before starting to sleep when the doors open, and Anna and Hiccup entered.
"Nice duet," Anna commented on his song making him jump.
"It's just you guys. What do you want?" Kristoff asked them.
"We want you to take us up to the North Mountain," Anna answered him.
"I don't take people places," Kristoff said before lying back down.
"Let's rephrase that," Hiccup said and tossed the bag with the pickaxe and rope at him. "Take us up the north mountain," he said and Kristoff saw what's inside.
"Look, we know how to stop this winter," Anna told him.
"We leave at dawn," Kristoff tells them before laying down again. "And you forgot the carrots for Sven," he said when Anna tossed the second bag of carrots at his face.
"Nice toss," Hiccup complimented her.
"We leave now. Right now," Anna said before leaving.
"You heard her," Hiccup said before following his girlfriend.
"What a strange group," Kristoff commented on them all and took a bite from a carrot and gave the rest to Sven.
Later, they're in his sled going up the mountain. Kristoff was driving in the front while Anna and Hiccup were in the back.
"Hang on! We like to go fast," Kristoff warned them.
"We've been faster," Hiccup stated.
"I like fast," Anna said while putting her feet on the front.
"Whoa! Get your feet down, this is fresh lacquer. Seriously, were you raised in a barn," Kristoff asked
"No, I was raised in a castle," Anna told him.
"So, tell me, what made the queen go all ice crazy," Kristoff asked them.
"Oh, well...it was all my fault," Anna started explaining. "I introduced her to my boyfriend. That's Hiccup, by the way. And also to our friends and she went crazy, saying how they can't be our friends, because they're dangerous. And I guess it's also because I kept Hiccup hidden in the castle for a few years."
"Hold up, you introduced her to your secret boyfriend and your friends," Kristoff asked her. "That's why she froze everything!?"
"Well, our friends are different," said Hiccup as he looked at Anna and earned a nod from her. "They're actually… dragons."
That made Sven stop and, he and Kristoff looked at the couple before Kristoff exploded with laughter, but Anna and Hiccup didn't.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, did you say dragons," Kristoff asked them as they nodded. "I'm sorry, but I find that very hard to believe."
"We really do have dragons. Hiccup's dragon is actually around here following us in the darkness," said Anna.
"Really, then where is it," asked Kristoff.
"First, it's he, not it! And second, if you wanted to meet him," said Hiccup before making a Night Fury call, and a second later, the unholy offspring of lighting and death itself landed nearby them. "All you had to do was ask."
Kristoff and Sven couldn't believe their eyes. There was a dragon right before their eyes and it wasn't acting like they've heard dragons act. If it wasn't for the wings and the tail, they would've thought that that was just an overgrown cat or something.
"Toothless, these are Kristoff and Sven. Kristoff, Sven, this is Toothless, my dragon," said Hiccup, introducing them. Kristoff slowly waved at the dragon, still in shock and couldn't believe that he just laughed at Hiccup and Anna for having dragons.
The Night Fury made his way to the sleigh and the couple petted him on both sides of his face while Kristoff watched with amusement. But then, the dragon heard something and let out a small growl into the dark forest.
"What is it, Toothless," Hiccup asked his dragon and the Night Fury let on a small Plasma Blast into the forest, which exploded in the distance, but the light was enough for them to see wolves.
"Sven, run," Kristoff tells the reindeer.
Sven starts running as fast as he could with Toothless right next to him while Hiccup pulled out Inferno and let out a Zippleback gas, which exploded in flames after a few seconds, but that didn't stop the wolves from gaining onto them.
"Toothless, we've got to lose them," said Hiccup as he jumped onto the Night Fury's saddle.
"Your boyfriend is crazy," commented Kristoff to Anna about the jump Hiccup just did.
"That makes two of us," said Anna as she followed Hiccup onto Toothless.
The dragon used his echo–location and sensed a cliff ahead of them before giving Hiccup the warning.
"Kristoff, there's a cliff ahead. You have to jump onto Toothless," Hiccup told Kristoff.
"But what about Sven," Kristoff asked.
"Don't worry about it. You just have to trust us," said Anna.
Kristoff didn't know what to do. He knew that he had no chance of fighting the wolves of all by himself, but didn't want to leave the fate of his best friend in the hands of a couple who had a dragon. But the look Sven gave him for a moment was enough to trust Anna and Hiccup with what they had in mind, and after a second on two he jumped onto Toothless, who spread his wings and took off into the air, but not very high.
Toothless fired two small Plasma Blasts to separate Sven from the sleigh as the cliff got closer and closer, and the wolves were already on the sleigh.
"Sven, get ready to jump," Hiccup told the reindeer.
Sven did what he was told and jumped just when he got to edge to the cliff and went down for a moment before Toothless caught him in his paws and flew them to the other side of the cliff as the sleigh went down, but the wolves have gotten off of it.
The Night Fury put Sven down and landed in the snow, and allowed Hiccup, Anna and Kristoff to get off.
Kristoff got over the shock of being rescued by a dragon and went to see the condition of his sleigh just as it erupted into flames.
"You were amazing, Toothless," Hiccup praised his dragon for the effort.
"I'll replace your sled, and everything in it," Anna promised Kristoff. "And we understand if you don't want to help anymore," She said as she, Hiccup and Toothless started to walk away.
Sven snorted trying to talk to Kristoff.
"Of course I don't want to help them anymore," Kristoff stated to him. "In fact, this whole thing has ruined me for helping anyone ever again," he informed Sven.
"They'll die on their own," Kristoff said in a Sven voice.
"She's got her boyfriend and his dragon. Besides, I wouldn't mind if they do," said Kristoff.
"But you won't get your new sled if they die," Kristoff stated and looked at Sven mad.
"Sometimes, I really don't like you," Kristoff stated and Sven got happy that they're helping them. "Hold up! We're coming," he told them.
"You are," Anna asked
"All right, we'll let you tag along," Hiccup said and Kristoff caught up to them.
They kept making their way up the mountain when Anna looked back and noticed that Arendelle was completely frozen over.
"It will be fine. Elsa will thaw it," Anna said optimistically.
"Will she," Kristoff wondered.
"Yeah. Now, come on," She says pointing to her left. "This way to the North Mountain," she asked when Kristoff readjusted her finger to point upward.
"More like the way," he informed her and they saw they've still got a long way to travel.
They kept walking through the woods and came across a frozen waterfall and frozen water droplets on tree vines.
"I never knew winter could be found so beautiful," Anna said reminding most of them she grew up inside the castle.
"Yeah. It really is beautiful, isn't it," a new voice asked and Hiccup pulled Inferno out before lighting the sword up while Toothless took defensive position. "But it's so white. You know how about a little bit of color," the voice asked as they made their way towards it.
"I'm thinking maybe some crimson, chartreuse. How about yellow," the voice asked and they didn't realize the figure was coming up behind them, and said figure was a living snowman.
"No, not yellow. Yellow and snow? No go," he said while chuckling and walks in between all of them and that's when they notice him and are confused where he came from.
"Am I right," the snowman asked them and Anna screamed before kicking his head into Kristoff's arms.
"Hi," he greeted Kristoff.
"You're creepy," Kristoff said before tossing the head back to Anna.
"I don't want it," Anna said before passing it to Hiccup who caught it.
"All right, I think we've gotten off on the wrong foot," the snowman said and Hiccup wasn't freaking out at him.
"Gotta admit, this is something I never saw coming," Hiccup stated and reattached his head to his body.
"Thank you," The snowman said to Hiccup. "Now I'm perfect."
"Well, almost," Anna said before digging into the bag of carrots and gave the snowman a nose and pushed it trough his head.
"Oh, too hard! I'm sorry," Anna apologized to the snowman.
"Head rush," the snowman stated to how he feels right now.
"Are you okay," Anna asked him, not wanting to have hurt him.
"Are you kidding me? I am wonderful," he told Anna and started messing with the small piece of the carrot before Anna pushed the rest out of the back of his head. "Oh, I love it even more."
"All right, lets start over. Hi, I'm Olaf. And I like warm hugs," he told them and it seemed Anna had a flashback to something before snapping out of it. "And you are?"
"Oh, I'm Anna," Anna introduced herself.
"Hiccup and this is Toothless," They all introduced themselves to him and he looked to Sven.
"And who's the funky looking donkey," Olaf asked them.
"That's Sven," Anna explained.
"Oh, and who's the reindeer," He asked and they realized he was talking about Kristoff, not Sven, and Toothless let out a laugh.
"...Sven," Anna said a little confused.
"Oh, okay. Makes things easier for me," Olaf said when Sven tried to take a bite out of his nose carrot. "Look at him trying to kiss my nose. I like you too."
"Olaf, did Elsa make you," Anna asked him.
"Yeah, why," Olaf asked her when Kristoff took his arm.
"Do you know where she is," Hiccup asked Olaf.
"Yeah, why," Olaf asked.
"Can you can show us where she is," Anna asked.
"Yeah, why," Olaf asked.
"How does this work," Kristoff asked when the arm slapped him and Toothless let out another laugh.
"Stop it, Sven," Olaf said taking his arm back. "Trying to focus here," he said and asked why again.
"I'll tell you why. We need Elsa to bring back summer," Kristoff told him.
"Summer," Olaf asked. "I don't know why, but I've always loved the idea of summer. And sun, and all things hot."
"Really," Hiccup asked since he's a snowman and shouldn't be warm.
"I'm guessing he doesn't have much experience with heat," Anna told him.
"No, I don't. But sometimes I like to close my eyes, and imagine what it would be like when summer does come," Olaf said while closing his eyes and entering his own world.
"Bees'll buzz, kids'll blow dandelion fuzz. And I'll be doing whatever snow does in summer. A drink in my hand, my snow up against the burning sand. Probably getting gorgeously tanned in summer," Olaf started to sing and they worry his expectations aren't gonna match the reality.
"I'll finally see a summer breeze, blow away a winter storm. And find out what happens to solid water when it gets warm! And I can't wait to see, what my buddies all think of me. Just imagine how much cooler I'll be in summer," He kept singing and started to dance.
"Dah dah, da doo, uh bah bah bah bah bah boo. The hot and the cold are both so intense. Put 'em together it just makes sense! Raht da daht dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah doo."
"Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle. But put me in summer and I'll be a...happy snowman! When life gets rough, I like to hold on to my dream. Of relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin' off steam. Oh the sky would be blue, and you guys will be there too," he said and saw the five of them were in his imagination with him.
"When I finally do what frozen things do in summer," he finished singing and Kristoff scoffed.
"I'm gonna tell him," Kristoff told them.
"Don't you dare," Anna warned him.
"In summer," Olaf finally finished singing.
"So, come on! Elsa's this way," he said and started leading the way. "Let's go bring back simmer!"
"We're coming," Anna said and ran after him with Toothless following close behind not wanting to lose them.
"Somebody's gotta tell him," Kristoff told Hiccup and he sorta agreed. He's not one to crush someone else's dreams. That was usually his dad's specialty.
"Let's just make sure we don't loose them and find Elsa for now, worry about him later," Hiccup said and he agreed to that.
Back at Arendelle, Hans was handing out anything he can find in the castle to help the citizens to deal with the cold keeping his promise to Anna to keep them safe, and no one actually minded the flaming Monstrous Nightmare, who was lying in the middle of kingdom.
"Cloak? Does anyone need a Cloak," he asked them. "If you're still feeling cold, please use Princess Anna's dragon."
"Arendelle is indebted to you, your highness," one of the citizens told him while he walked to the other citizens in need.
"The castle is open. There is soup and hot glogg in the Great Hall," Hans told the rest of the citizens and passed the cloaks to a guard. "Pass these out," he says and he did as he asked.
"Prince Hans," Duke called out for him. "Are we expected to just sit here and freeze while you give away all of Arendelle's traceable goods and the princess' dragon," he asked Hans.
"Princess Anna has given her orders," Hans stated.
"And that's another thing! The Princess has left with her boyfriend and his dragon. What's stopping them from getting more dragons and the Queen herself to destroy us all"
Hans got angry at the man. "Do not question the princess. She left me in charge and I will not hesitate to protect Arendelle from treason. And if you hadn't noticed, the Princess' dragon hasn't done anything, but help everyone warm," Hans told him.
"Treason," he stutters out.
"But Hiccup's dragon flew pretty fast, so they should've been back by now," Hans mutters, but loud enough for everyone to hear him. "I'm going after them, but I'm going to need some help in case they're in trouble."
"I volunteer two men, my lord," Duke said referring to his men. "Be prepared for anything. And should you encounter the queen, you are to put an end to this winter. Do you understand," he asked them and they understood completely.
Up the mountain, the group were making their way through a valley of icicles everywhere.
"So, how exactly are you planning to stop this weather," Kristoff asked them.
"We were never told," Hiccup admitted and looked at Anna.
"Oh, I am going to talk to my sister," Anna explained her entire plan.
"That's your plan," Kristoff asked. "My ice business is riding on you talking to your sister?"
"Yep," Anna said and Kristoff looked in time before he could get stabbed by a icicle.
"So, none of you are afraid of her," Kristoff asked moving away from the icicle.
"Why would I be," Anna asked.
"Yeah. I bet Elsa's the nicest, gentlest, warmest person ever," Olaf said as he walked through an icicle. "Oh, look at that. I've been impaled," He realized and chuckled.
They kept walking up the mountain and came up across a steep climb they won't be able to get up alone.
"It's too steep to climb," Kristoff said and looks to Hiccup. "Your dragon wouldn't be able to fly us all the up there, would he?"
"Toothless is not used to caring too many passengers for a long period of time and by looks of it, this steep is a little too high," said Hiccup.
"Well, I've only got one rope and I'm guessing not all of us know how to climb mountains," Kristoff said and Hiccup doesn't exactly know how to go through snow and ice, since he never had a reason to.
"Says who," Anna asked and they turned to see her trying to climb the mountain herself.
"What are you doing," Kristoff questioned her as she's failing to climb.
"I'm going to see my sister," Anna said as she struggled to get up.
"You're more likely going to kill yourself," Hiccup informed her.
"I wouldn't put my foot there," Kristoff warned Anna as her foot slipped.
"You're distracting me," Anna said.
"Or there," Hiccup also warned as her foot slipped again.
"How do you know Elsa even wants to see you," Kristoff asked her.
"Okay, I'm just blocking you out for now because I gotta concentrate, here," Anna said as she continued to slip.
"You know, most people who disappear want to be alone," Kristoff informed Anna and that statement hit too close to home for Hiccup as it brought up some bad memories of Berk in how he did exactly what Elsa did, but found a new home in Arendelle.
"Nobody wants to be alone," Anna said as she kept failing to climb up the mountain. "Except maybe you," she stated.
"I'm not alone, I have friends," Kristoff informed her.
"Really, and what are they? Love experts," Anna asked.
"Actually, they are," Kristoff confirmed.
Anna was trying to climb and threw one leg over a small piece and was now stuck.
"Please tell me I'm almost there," Anna begged and they looked to see she's only several feet off the ground. "Does the air seem a bit thin to you up here," she wondered not knowing how far she really got.
"You're not even close," Hiccup informed her.
"Hey, guys," Olaf called out to them and they saw him in a small hole in the side of the mountain. "I'm not sure if this is gonna solve the problem, but I found a staircase that leads exactly where you want to go," he told them and pointed to where he came from.
"Ha-ha! Thank goodness," Anna said relieved she doesn't need to keep climbing. "Catch," she called out before letting go of the mountain and jumping into Hiccup's arms.
"Thanks. That was like a crazy trust exercise," She commented on her actions before following Olaf.
"Your girlfriend is gonna get herself killed if keeps on doing thigs like that," Kristoff informed Hiccup.
"Yeah, but I'm gonna be there to prevent her from doing them, not that she'd actually listen," chuckled Hiccup and followed Anna and Olaf.
Toothless, Kristoff and Sven followed after them and came up across Elsa's castle made entirely out of ice and a staircase leading up to the doors.
"Now, that's ice," Kristoff said gazing at the castle. "I might cry."
"Go ahead, I won't judge," Anna said.
"Come on, let's keep going," Hiccup said as they continued walking.
Sven tried to follow them and got stuck on the stairs.
"All right, buddy, I got you," Kristoff said and helped Sven back onto the ground. "Okay, you stay right here, buddy," he said and started to head up.
Hiccup and Toothless followed with the dragon using his claws for balance.
Anna made it to the top and approached the doors before stopping as Olaf was behind her. Hiccup, Toothless and Kristoff soon got there as well.
"Knock," Olaf told Anna as she's standing there. "Just knock. Why isn't she knocking? Do you think she knows how to knock," he asked the others as Anna knocked and the doors started to open on their own.
"It opened. That's a first," Anna stated remembering all the times Elsa never opened for her in the past. "Oh, you guys should probably wait out here."
"Sure," Hiccup said. "But don't expect us to wait too long. You know Toothless is not very patient."
"Especially you, Kristoff. She froze everything when I introduced her to Hiccup and our dragons," Anna said.
"But come on! It's a palace made of ice. Ice is my life," Kristoff stated.
"Bye, Sven," Olaf said and was about to enter the castle when Anna stopped him.
"You too, Olaf. Just give us a minute," Anna asked and entered the castle. As she entered the castle, Olaf started counting down.
The doors closed as Anna looked around and saw the staircase and frozen fountain. She looked up to the ceiling and saw its snowflake shaped.
"Elsa," Anna called out for her sister. "It's me, Anna," she said before taking a slide on the ice.
"Anna," the voice of Elsa echoed trough and she looked up to see Elsa has changed her look, hair, and dress.
To be continued…
Hey, guys. I'm back with another chapter. This is probably the longest one so far. I really hoped you enjoyed it. The next one will be uploaded by the end of February or early March and we'll meet Kristoff's friends. So, that's all for now and I'll see you all next time. Until then, have a nice day.
