Shortly after their experience with Mad Moony, the gang ended up at the Bogen County Fair. It was a small gathering with a few rides and vendors, but they decided to step out and have fun. Lucy and Jeanette did some things together, Kylie sat to herself, writing a few things in her journal. The Muppets, however, looked towards the Bogen County stands.
"That was great," Lucy smiled as she won the ring toss. "I knew I could do it!"
"Awesome," Jeanette gave her a thumbs-up. "I always thought those games were rigged."
"This is where three years of guitar lessons and softball pay off," Lucy showed off her wrist. "Helps with dexterity."
They looked over to see a man holding a blue balloon. "Hey girls," he waved. "My name's Elliott Gould. Are you lovelies from around here?"
"No." Lucy blushed. "We're from out of town. Just stopped by to check things out."
"Ah, well," Elliott shook his head. "There are plenty of ladies like you running for the Miss Bogen County Pageant. I'm on my way to reveal the winner."
"Cool," Jeanette smiled. "No spoilers. But...where is it hosted?"
"Down there," Elliott pointed. "See you in ten. And while you're at it…" He went to his pocket and gave them both business cards. "If you want to have an emcee at your parties, you know where to turn."
"Thank you," Lucy waved at him as Elliott left.
Jeanette pointed to the crowd. "I think Kermit and Fozzie are at that booth. Let's go over and meet them." Lucy followed.
Ten minutes later, Elliott Gould stood at the microphone, ready to introduce the winner of Miss Bogen County. He tested the mic. "Can you hear me?"
"Yeah," Lucy called back.
Elliott pointed to her and winked. "Good." Resuming his speech, he announced, "It is time to announce the winner of this year's Miss Bogen County Beauty Pageant." Applause and Elliott made a joke. "We sure grow 'em pretty around here."
Fozzie, Kermit, and Gonzo walked over to the girls. "What's going on?" Fozzie asked.
"They're about to announce Miss Bogen County," Jeanette pointed to the stands.
Kylie came over to join them. "Have they said who it is yet?"
Elliott announced the runner-up first. "Our first runner-up, Miss Debbie Sue Anderson." The people clapped as Debbie took the stage.
"Alright," Kylie commented. "She seems cool."
"Nice looking girls," Fozzie added.
Then, a farmer walked by holding a prize hen in hand. Gonzo was distracted not by Debbie Sue Anderson, but by the hen. "Nice-looking chickens." Camilla gave him a side-eye and squawked in discomfort. "No hard feelings," Gonzo patted Camilla and she forgave him.
"And before announcing the winner…" Elliot resumed. "I think we should take the time to thank our judges: Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy…"
Their attention turned to an old man and his ventriloquist dummy sitting at the judging table. "You're not gonna believe who the winner is, folks!" The dummy started.
"Oh, come on, Charlie." Edgar motioned to Lucy and company. "It's her story. Let her find out."
"Oh, yeah." They both laughed.
"And here she is," Elliott motioned to the stands. A throne had been put there just for the winner. Not waiting anymore, Elliott introduced, "This year's Miss Bogen County...Miss Piggy!"
A little pig in a white dress with blonde hair rushed out and waved at everyone. Lucy was surprised and found herself snickering a little. A pig winning Miss Bogen County? Now she had seen everything. But Miss Piggy seemed nice as she accepted the honor.
"A pig? You see that," Kylie pointed at the stage.
"Yeah," Lucy nodded. "But let's see what she does next."
Miss Piggy was given her crown and robe by the other contestants as she smiled at the crowd. Smiling, she addressed everyone by gushing and gasping. "I just want to say one thing…" She started, but then drifted off. "This is the happiest moment of my…"
She looked across the crowd and met eyes directly with Kermit. Lucy noticed and bent down.
"Oh, Kermit," Lucy smiled, knowing what was going on here. "I think she's into you." Lucy winked. Kermit gulped dreading the situation. "Ah, I think it's cute," Lucy assured. "Just give it some time and wait."
Kermit sighed as he noticed Miss Piggy's affections. Then, on-stage, Miss Piggy began to sing:
Never before have two souls joined so freely, and so fast.
For me this is the first time, and the last.
Is this an angel's wish for men?
Never before and never again.
And where to find the words to sing its worth,
This love was bound for heaven, not for earth.
This love was meant to light the stars,
But when we touched, we made it ours.
And would they take it back?
Oh, no, they wouldn't dare!
Why should they take it back,
When there's enough to share with all the world,
And fill the heavens above
With left-over love?
Never before, a love that just keeps growing on and on,
To fill each lover's heart and light the dawn.
Is this an angel's wish for men?
Never before and never again.
Never before and never again.
Everyone shrugged at the song, but still clapped anyway. After that, Miss Piggy rushed off the stage and hugged Kermit close. Gushing and wailing, she kept holding him as Kermit seemed oblivious.
"Um, excuse me," Kermit tried to get her off.
"Oh, yes," Miss Piggy removed herself and backed up.
"Nice to have you with us, Miss Piggy," Jeanette shook her hand. "But some personal space must be given." Miss Piggy nodded in return.
"Congratulations on winning the beauty contest," Kermit tried to be polite.
"Oh, thank you," Piggy mused as she stared into Kermit's eyes. "Of course, normally I don't do anything so...trivial." She giggled. "I am an actress-model."
"Cool," Jeanette smiled. "That's what I'm looking to be."
"Yes," Piggy sighed. "Of course, it is a difficult job."
"I'm looking to be a performer, too," Kermit added. "And these girls are helping me get there."
"Who's the cute-looking pig?" Gonzo made the mistake of asking.
Piggy gloured in his direction. "Excuse me?"
"If you were a chicken, you'd be impeccable."
"Not the time, Gonzo," Kylie motioned him away, trying to avoid escalating a conflict.
"I thought we were going to get ice cream," Fozzie suggested.
"In a minute," Kermit swiped his arm out. "I'll join you. Just save a spot in line."
"Me too," Lucy added. "I want to learn more about Miss Piggy."
Fozzie walked away with Jeanette to get ice cream. Kylie followed Gonzo and Camilla to see what they were up to. Kermit and Piggy continued their conversation with Lucy standing by.
"So…" Piggy looked at Lucy. "Are you two...involved?"
"Ew," Lucy grimaced. "He is not my type...at all."
Kermit also shook his head.
"Then what are you doing in town?" Piggy asked.
"We're headed west," Kermit explained.
Miss Piggy gasped. "Really?"
"Yeah," Kermit nodded. "But I really should join my friends for ice cream."
"Oh," Miss Piggy sighed again. She looked so upset.
"You can come too," Lucy offered.
"Really? You mean it?" Suddenly, Miss Piggy returned to her excited state, but Lucy waved her hand to calm her down. She started to run off to change. "I'll be right back. Don't move."
Kermit and Lucy shrugged. "I think I'll join them," Lucy walked off. But Kermit did as told and did not move.
Fozzie approached the counter of the ice cream man, with Jeanette standing behind him. "Hello, I would like an Ice cream."
The vendor, who quite resembled Bob Hope, smiled as he read the options. "And what flavor do you want? We have chocolate, vanilla, peach, rum banana…"
"Honey," Fozzie responded. As a bear, it was his trademark favorite food.
"Honey?" Bob repeated. "I beg your pardon, I hardly know you…"
"Ah…" Fozzie pointed, getting the joke right away. "But in all seriousness, I'd like a honey cone for me, a dragonfly ripple for my friend the frog, and a mint chocolate chip for my other friend Lucy."
"Okay," Bob Hope reached down for his scooper. He handed a honey cone to Fozzie, and two green cones. "A honey for you, a dragonfly ripple for the frog, and a mint chocolate also." Fozzie received them on a tray. "Don't get the last two mixed up," Bob winked.
"Oh yeah," Fozzie shook his head.
Jeanette moved up and placed her order. "I'll just take the chocolate."
Meanwhile, Gonzo walked along with Camilla and Kylie. They came across a balloon vendor resembling Richard Pryor. Camilla clucked at Gonzo, indicating she wanted a balloon.
"Alright, but you pick the color," Gonzo offered. "Red or Green?"
Camilla paused and shook her head.
Richard leaned in and offered his suggestion. "Can I give you a word of advice?"
"What's that?"
"Why not take...Both!"
Gonzo gasped. "Huh, what a wild idea?"
"Um, Gonzo," Kylie tried to caution. "I don't think that's such a good idea. I mean...you kind of get carried away and…"
"A beautiful chicken like that deserves two balloons," Richard pointed out.
"You're right," Gonzo affirmed.
Richard told his own story. "Sometimes I have guys here get a bunch of balloons. Go absolutely ga-ga over them."
"Ga-Ga?" Gonzo had another idea. "I'll take the whole bunch."
"Gonzo, no," Kylie slapped her face and shook her head.
Kermit and Lucy were lost in the crowd, looking for their friends. They called out names, but could not find them.
"Oh, hey," Fozzie and Jeanette came over with their cones. "We were looking for you."
"Thanks," Lucy and Kermit took their cones. Just as Bob Hope had warned, Fozzie did NOT mix the mint with the dragonfly.
"So...where's your pig friend?"
"I don't know," Kermit looked off. "She said she was coming for ice cream with us."
"Yoo-hoo," Miss Piggy rushed out. She was now in a more casual dress with a suitcase. "Here I am! I packed! I packed!"
"So I see," Kermit noted. "What for?" He returned to licking his cone.
"You said I could come with you." Miss Piggy's voice got deep and romantic as she looked at Kermit.
"Yeah, to buy ice cream," Kermit pointed out.
"No, no," Lucy shushed him. "I think there's...a reason she's here." She looked around. "Every encounter has given something special. Helped us on our mission. I think if Miss Piggy wants to come, she should be able to come to Hollywood."
"You're going to Hollywood?!" Miss Piggy shrieked.
"Yeah," Lucy calmed her again. "But you have to cool it first."
Right behind them, Gonzo started to take to the skies. Such a small, delicate Muppet with a whole bunch of balloons made him airborne in a matter of seconds. As he whooped in delight, Kylie and Camilla turned to the party to alert them.
"Guys," Kylie shouted as Camilla clucked. "Gonzo bought too many balloons and now he's in the sky."
Kermit looked skyward to see Gonzo flying. "Gonzo! What are you doing?"
"About seven knots," Gonzo answered, referring to his airspeed velocity.
"We'll follow you," Kermit called. To everyone else, he ordered, "To the car!" They all rushed to Gonzo's rescue.
And so began a harrowing car chase. Everyone in the group and their new friend Miss Piggy drove after as Fozzie floored the gas.
"Oh, Kermit. You're a born leader," Piggy still tried to flirt.
"No time," Lucy pointed to the sky at Gonzo. "We need to get him down safe."
"Fozzie, Bear Left," Kermit looked up, trying to gauge distance.
"Right Frog," Fozzie answered back.
Jeanette chucked at the joke, but Lucy still tried to get the party moving.
Eventually, Gonzo started to drift away, flying higher and further off. "He's caught in a crosswind, Fozzie. We're going to lose him."
"Oh no," exclaimed Kylie.
They pulled over nearby, right near a billboard with a woman holding a pie. "Stay with him," Kermit guided. "He's right above us."
They waited for the wind to die down. Fozzie got out of his seat, opened the door, and called upward. "Hi, Gonzo!"
"Fozzie, get to driving!" Lucy shouted out as Fozzie remembered. However, he had lost control of the wheel and sent the car careening off the road.
"Look out for the billboard!" But it was too late, Fozzie sent them smashing into the billboard. The pie on the billboard flew over the car and onto a suspicious black vehicle tailing them. A rogue gunshot fired off and shot down a few balloons. Gonzo descended before landing without a scratch on the car roof.
"Alright, we got him," Lucy alerted everyone. "Now let's go off." They drove away, safe and sound.
Gonzo lowered his head and peered at everyone through the windshield. "I'm back!"
Miss Piggy gave a blank stare at Kermit. "I don't understand any of this."
"Neither do we," Lucy shook her head as their human friends echoed the sentiment. "Just go along for the ride."
