Katara's mind was racing a million miles an hour as they approached her home. She never would've thought she would find herself in this situation, but here she was. As she was about to unlock her door, she clumsily dropped her keys onto the ground. She gave a nervous laugh to Aang and grabbed them. Not the best way to start out a night like this.
"Let me get the fire going," she said as they entered. The night had chilled considerably as it appeared there was a storm approaching.
"I think I can take care of that." With a casually flick of his wrist, the fireplace in the living room ignited.
She smacked her forehead with her palm. "Right, you're a firebender."
"One of the perks," he said with chuckle.
"I'm going to get a pot of tea started." She gestured over to the sofa. "Why don't you take a seat and I'll join you in a minute."
When she got to her kitchen, she thanked the Spirits that she actually had tea. Tea was the last thing on her mind when she asked him, but she wasn't really sure the correct way of doing this. Should she just strip now and walk in naked so Aang could get the hint? She shook that terrible idea off and decided to just go with the flow and see where the night took them.
When she came back into the living room with the tea, she saw him looking at all the Southern Water Tribe decorations she had put up since she had moved in. While Sokka had some input, most of his ideas were put to the wayside much to his dismay.
"I like what you have done with the place," Aang said as she sat down next to him and handed him his cup.
"Thanks. I'm not much of a house decorator, but I did what I could. It still looks a little sloppy in here. Sorry about the animal pelts by the way."
"There's nothing to be sorry about. It's part of your culture. This whole place suits someone like you."
"I tried my best to make it feel like back home. I hope you like Jasmine Tea," she said as he was about to take a sip of his cup.
He took a rather large gulp. "Mmmhmm. Sure do. Speaking of home, how has the transition been for you? I know it must've been hard to leave your friends and family behind."
"It's been great! I'll always be a Southern Water Tribe girl at heart. It was tough to say good bye, but I love it here. And I can always visit when I want to."
He smiled at her. "I'm glad. You know, when Suki, Toph, and I stumbled across this town seven years ago, it was, for a lack of a better term, a cluster fuck. Bender and nonbenders were at odds with each other, there was pollution, crime was rampant, and the financial situation was a total mess. The original plan was to help get this place on the right track and be on our way. I never would've imagined it would turn into what we have now and for me to still be here all these years later."
She heard about some of the origins of Republic City but hearing from him that he never intended to reside here permanently was surprising considering how Republic City seemed like the perfect place for the Avatar. From the logistics to it being the cultural epicenter of the world, there weren't too many places that could compete with that.
"Where would you live if not here? One of the Air Temples?"
He took a sip of his tea and thought for a moment. She could tell she struck a nerve.
"It's too painful for me to live in one of the three remaining Air Temples permanently," he said gloomily. "After restoring all of them, they are now inhabited by Air Acolytes and they do a terrific job in keeping my culture alive."
"Sorry, I should've known."
"It's alright," he said and gave the top of her knee a comforting squeeze. "It's reasonable to ask. But to answer your question, honestly, I have no idea. Ever since the war ended, I hopped from place to place for a while. Wherever the most conflict was, that's where I would be. I didn't mind it too much as it's in my nature, but it's nice to have some form of stability. I guess you kind of left stability to come here huh?"
She nodded in agreement. "I never really thought about it like that, but I guess so. Like I said, I'll always be a Southern Water Tribe girl, but once this opportunity came up, I knew I had to take it."
"That's brave of you. I see a lot of people out there who are too afraid to take a chance on what they really want to do and settle. I understand that people have to do what they need to in order to make ends meet, but I guarantee you some of those people hate themselves for not taking the leap when they had the chance."
Her cheeks reddened from his compliment. "I'm not that brave. I couldn't even get on the dance floor without your encouragement. Thanks for pushing me by the way. I don't think I would've otherwise."
He waved a hand at her. "Don't mention it. Besides, I would've done anything to get you on that dance floor with me."
"Oh really?" she challenged. "Like what?"
"Would you really turn down this face?"
She giggled as she saw him give his best impression of a five-year-old pouting about losing their toy.
"As a matter of fact, I could," she said proudly and crossed her arms. She tried to contain the giggles that were escaping her lips looking at his pretend shock face.
"Then I guess it was a good thing it didn't take too much convincing."
"Maybe I was just being nice to you," she huffed teasingly. "It would be awfully mean to deny a request from the Avatar."
"True, but why be so nice at the balcony afterwards?"
She didn't miss the clear change in the tone of his voice, and it caused her breath to hitch. He set his cup of tea next to hers on the coffee table in front of them.
"Are you also just being nice by inviting me back for tea?"
Damn he's good, she thought to herself. She was glad for it too as she was no expert on the art of seduction.
"And why is your heartbeat so frantic right now?" he asked while she stared at him like an idiot.
He began to lean in close to her, but stopped a few inches from her face, just close enough for Katara to feel his warm breath on her lips. She immediately knew that he was daring her to make the first move.
There was a bit of a pause as Katara was pondering how she wanted to play this game he was setting her up for. Part of her wanted to drag this out and make him come to her. It was her home, shouldn't she be the one doing the seducing? Her primal side won over instead as she promptly pressed her lips onto his.
Just like the kiss on the balcony, this started somewhat soft and sweet before quickly turning intense and passionate. Aang gently laid her down onto her back on the sofa while continuing to kiss her deeply. He took his lips off hers only to shift over to her jawline and began to work his way to her neck.
Meanwhile, Katara unfastened his tunic and revealed his bare torso to her. She wasted no time in exploring it with her hands while he continued to nip on the sensitive skin on her neck causing involuntary moans to escape her lips.
As he brought his lips back to hers, one of his hands began to work his way to the back of her dress and he skillfully untied it. Katara pushed him off her forcefully in a playful way and pulled the dress over her head. As much as she loved the dress, it was the least of her concerns right now and she tossed it aside recklessly.
She was now only in her undergarments and she became a little self-conscious when she saw Aang gazing at her with heavy-lidded eyes. That quickly passed as she flipped their position and straddled his waist bringing him in for another breathtaking kiss.
Katara was in a haze that she never wanted to leave. Everything seemed perfect. She felt his hands glide up her thighs, to her hips, up her back, until finally reaching the knot that kept her chest bindings together.
"Wait," she said realizing the reality of where this is going.
He stopped immediately and looked at her concerningly. "Is everything ok? We can stop."
He began to push her off her, but she stopped him by grasping his shoulders and grounding her hips into his causing him to let out a soft moan at the sensation.
"No, nothing is wrong," she said without being able to look at him. "It's just…"
"Just tell me," he told her softly and grabbed her chin so she could look him in the eyes.
"I've never done something like this on a first date before," she replied timidly. "Things are moving so fast between us."
"They are."
They sat in this position awkwardly for what felt like an eternity. Katara wasn't sure why she had the sudden trepidation. She's the one who invited him in the first place and a minute ago, she practically jumped him. She wanted this to happen yet something she wasn't sure of was holding her back.
"I'm not quite sure the extent on how you feel about me or the potential you see between us," he said finally while looking directly in her eyes. "But what I do know is how I feel about you. I realize it's only been a few weeks since you got here and this sounds crazy to say so soon, but the truth is I can't stop thinking about you. Maybe that will change as the days go by but I can honestly say that I've never felt this way before."
She wanted to tell him that she felt the exact same way. Out of all the first dates she had been on, she had never even entertained the idea of inviting one of them over for some "tea." Even with the guys that turned into her boyfriend, it took a while before she felt ready to engage in this activity with them. Sure, Aang was a good-looking guy, but so were the other guys.
This went far beyond pure attraction. Even before tonight when they were acting as friends, he would always know how to bring a smile to her like no one has before. There was no doubt in her mind that the spark that she felt with Aang could turn into something special. The only problem was that those words refused to escape her lips and she sat on him stiff as a board.
"It's ok if you don't feel the same way," he said snapping her out of her thoughts. "I know I just dumped a lot on you and if you need time I can-,"
Before he could finish his sentence, Katara grabbed the sides of his face and slammed his lips onto her own, bringing their bodies flush together. If words weren't working, actions would have to do and there would be a lot of action occurring throughout the night.
Heavy rain woke Katara up. She was now in her bedroom and peeked out of her window to realize it must've been the wee hours of the morning. Frustrated that she was awoken so early she shifted to turn the other direction and saw that Aang was still in a deep slumber facing her.
He looked so peaceful while he slept with his hands in between his head and the pillow. Yet, their actions together were anything but peaceful last night. She flushed as she replayed what happened in her head. She had her way with him (at least for the first round) and was almost embarrassed by how bold she was now that their night of passion was over.
She was sure glad that Sokka had stayed the night at Suki's. There was no doubt that if he were in his room, he would know exactly what was going on between them. She wouldn't be surprised if the whole neighborhood understood what was going on between her and Aang.
It had been a while since she had been intimate with a man, but this was far different than anything she had experienced before. Just thinking about the way his hands touched her body sent chills down her spine. Who knew a monk would know how to please a woman so well? Maybe he had a little help from getting advice from the previous Avatars, but it didn't matter. He knew how to make her feel good and that was most important.
She had to stop thinking about it otherwise she would have to wake him up. He looked soo adorable and her horniness could wait. There would be plenty of time for sex now that they were officially a couple. She felt giddy just thinking about the fact that she already had a boyfriend who she cared about so soon since she got to Republic City.
As the rain continued to pour on, a loud bang made her jump. She chuckled quietly to herself realizing it was only thunder. Aang had a different reaction as Katara saw him turn away from her and start to breathe heavy. She quickly realized he was having this reaction due to the storm.
It was common knowledge by this point how the Avatar ran away from home only to be caught in a terrible storm that caused him to enter the Avatar State and be frozen for a hundred years. Whether Aang made that story public because of the guilt he faced or the annoyance of having to answer where he disappeared to for all those years was a mystery to everyone. Regardless, it wasn't too surprising that his body would have a reaction like this.
Carefully, Katara scooched closer and wrapped her arms around him. She sighed in relief when his breathing calmed down a little and his posture became more relaxed. What a bizarre situation she found herself in. Here she was with her bare breasts pressed against the back of a man she just slept with. Yet, this man happened to be the most powerful being in the universe who was currently in such a vulnerable state because of that horrific storm that occurred 110 years ago.
She spent a few minutes trying to adjust herself and find the most comfortable position for her to fall back asleep. Aang's broad frame made it a bit difficult to play the big spoon, but the warmth radiating from his body was too tantalizing to spring apart from him. Sighing with content as she found the perfect position, she drifted back to sleep.
When she awoke again, it must've been close to noon as the storm that came during the night had run its course and the sun was shining through her window. She rolled over and noticed that the warm presence she fell asleep on was no longer there.
Fear started to creep in her mind when she didn't see Aang or his clothes anywhere in the bedroom. He wouldn't be the type of guy to ditch her after having sex with her especially after admitting his feelings. Would he? Frantically, she put on some clothes to make herself presentable and fast walked towards her living room.
To her relief, she saw Aang siting on her couch, reading one of her waterbending scrolls she brought from back home. She mentally kicked herself for thinking he would do such a thing.
"Hey," he said when he saw her and flashed that smile of his that had quickly become one of her favorite things in the entire world.
"Hey." She smiled back and took a seat next to him. "How long have you been up?"
"A few hours."
Her jaw dropped. "A few hours?! You could've woken me up."
"It's fine, I know how to keep busy. Do you mind if I borrow this?" he asked pointing to the scroll.
"I guess that's fine. Aren't you already a master though?"
"I am, but this would be a good reference for me in writing my own scrolls about airbending."
She was about to ask why he would need to do that, but stopped herself realizing that they were all burned to ash.
"You still could've woken me up. I wouldn't have minded."
"Katara, it's fine. Plus, there was no way I was waking you up. You look too cute when you're asleep."
She blushed for what felt like the hundredth time since last night. "Speaking of sleep, I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't help but notice you tossing and turning during the storm that passed through."
Aang brought his hands together and stared at them to avoid looking at Katara's concerned gaze. "Yeah that happens. As much as I've come to terms about what happened, I can't say that I'll ever be very fond of storms."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No not really. I've done all I can to put that storm behind me. I try to look at the bright sides of what happened and it has helped me not dwell too much on it."
She gave him a puzzled look. Bright sides? That seemed almost impossible given the circumstances. "Like what?"
"For starters, if I never got caught up in that storm, I never would've met you."
She nudged his shoulder playfully. "You're a charming bastard, you know that."
He straightened his collar and puffed his chest out proudly. "I've been told that from time to time, but it wouldn't hurt to hear it more often. Anyways, you must be starving, let's get something to eat.
She could tell he was trying to change the topic. As much as she wanted dig deeper, she decided against it and geared the conversation elsewhere. "Actually, I was hoping we can talk about us."
His eyes went wide instantly. "Are you having second thoughts?"
"No, no, no, that's not what I meant at all," she said frantically and grabbed both of his hands. "What I mean is it's kind of a big deal for the Avatar to be off the market. How should we handle it?"
He shrugged. "I'm not sure. I haven't had a girlfriend since I was 18 and that was before I was settled here permanently. While I'm not saying we need to sneak around or anything, I don't think it's necessary to make a big deal about us since we're just starting out."
"I don't either, but won't it become a big deal once everyone finds out?"
"I suppose, but at the end of the day, what goes on in our personal life is our business. The Council won't mind at all if it doesn't affect our duties there. If you want, we can keep what we have going on between just the two of us and maybe our friends for a bit. People will eventually put two and two together, but it would allow us time to get used to being together without the hoopla."
"Is that what you want?" she asked.
"I want you to be comfortable," he replied and gave her hands a gentle squeeze. "If you think getting it out in the open now is best, then I'm ok with it. There probably already is gossip out there about us since people saw us together at the celebration, but I don't think it's to the point where people are jumping to conclusions quite yet."
She thought carefully for a moment. Katara knew she had thick skin so she could handle the gossip. What she might not like as much is girls drooling over her new boyfriend while she was in his presence. Getting their relationship out in the open would potentially put a wet blanket on most of the women who were looking to seduce the Avatar.
But then again, Aang had a point. They were just starting out. Like he said last night, who knows how things will develop between them as the days go by. Making a grand statement felt premature this early into their relationship.
"Let's just keep it low profile for now and take it from there," Katara finally said.
"Then it's settled," he smiled and leaned in for a kiss which Katara gladly accepted. "Now come on, let's get something to eat. You're buying."
A/N: No lemon sorry :( Not my cup of tea to write.
UGudBroXD: Thanks! Appreciate it.
Hilmintonhamhigh: Yeah, the way I pictured writing is that he's not really trying to hook up with Ursa, but more that his charm was turned to 11 and Ursa was on the receiving end of it and everyone could feel the fireworks going off. But Aang definitely isn't a virgin in this and neither is Katara.
Bay45220: She's got to do what she has to do.
Lalaanddiki: I enjoy writing Azula as part of the gaang because it's so hard yet easy to imagine how a redeemed version of herself would add to the dynamic. And yes they had a very fun time.
Aangbanger: Thanks for the kind words and yes, every Kataang story should try to have a Kataango if possible. Katara definitely put some lemon in their tea, but the author couldn't write about it.
IHaveSomeThoughts: I'm glad you're liking the way their relationship is progressing.
Ashley Barbosa: Ursa is an attractive woman and with a tipsy Aang, anything is possible.
Kingcityboy17: Appreciate it. Azula interacting as a friend and not a foe is definitely different.
Zgod584: Thanks for the support. Definitely sexytime, but not no lemon. Hope Katara's recollection of what happened is enough to paint a picture of what happened.
BoomerAang18: Aang talking to his past lives about dumb stuff is definitely a self-insert aspect. What's the downside?
