Chapter 8
Determination
Equivalent of The Hearing
Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Bill, Arthur, Fred, George, Sirius, Tonks, Remus and Andromeda Tonks, whom they had informed earlier, met in the study that afternoon. They made some more notes of ideas, with a dicta – quill which Sirius found in a drawer. *
The next week they found the perfect property to buy. An average sized house on the edge of a small town near London, identical to its neighbors. They bought it. It turned out that when you were willing to pay anything, you got what you wanted. No bribery though! The group thought of a name for themselves – Life Gliders (opposite to Death Eaters, after lots of ridiculous suggestions such as Life Poopers, mostly made by Sirius.) They started a tunnel which led to an emergency medical, control and escape room. With magic, it would be done within weeks.
The Life Eaters also Fidelised the house with Remus as the Secret – Keeper. They added a room in the basement for his "furry little problem". They furnished the house with Muggle furniture but charmed it all Impervious, fireproof and Unbreakable. They expanded the inside and the tiny yard. After three weeks of work the Life Glider base was complete. **
They started training. Hermione still thought that stealing and fighting was slightly barbaric, having been a stickler for rules all her life, so she was going to be the research of the group. Research and teach new effective spells and maybe potions, ways to track the Death Eaters, etc. Now she was working on something like a Muggle headset to communicate long and short distance. They would not start raiding until they could do communicate.
Ron was slightly squeamish but he, too, did not want to go on raids, so he, Sirius and Remus we're working on a Marauders Map of London and another one of England.
The rest were training in fighting with Tonks, an Auror, and simple healing with Andromeda Tonks. They were training in fighting and not duelling because Death Eaters simply did not duel, they fought and they fought dirty. They invented spell chains that flowed and memorised the codenames. All this was conducted without the knowledge of Mrs Weasley and the other Order members.
The projected timeline was to start raiding in the last few weeks of August, practice runs on empty, underprotected DE houses, getting used to it, then in September raiding more empty houses but more protected, then by November at the latest they would move to inhabited homes.
Sirius estimated that it would take until about Christmas for them all to become Animagi. The Marauders had perfected a potion to speed the process; normally it would take about a year. Remus had a Boggart from a cabinet in Grimmauld Place and they were using it to practice their Patroni. Harry's was a Stag, Hermione was an Otter, Ron was a Jack Russel terrier, George's was a ferret (Ugh – the slimy Malfoy ferret) Fred's was a magpie and Ginny's was a horse. They had all managed a corporeal patronus but Hermione's and Ginny's failed when faced with the Boggart. Remus was astounded by the speed with which they learnt the difficult spell. Harry, George and Fred were moving on to message Patroni – Expecto Loquitur - and specific talking Patroni – Expecto Nuntius.
