Some people had already assembled at the fire place. Alcohol was brought out, weed was shared and music was playing. The sun was halfway set when Ryo wondered where Rika was. He hoped that everything would be fine after their talk and that thing wouldn't get awkward or complicated.
He flinched as someone slapped a hand on his shoulder. It was Henry with Terriermon on his head. Ryo smiled: "Hey Henry, what's up?" "Have you seen Alice? She told me, she wanted to grab something from her room but that was like half an hour ago. I can't seem to find her."
The brunette chuckled: "Don't worry, she probably ran into Rika and now they have girls talk and stuff and forgot the time." Henry shook his head in disbelief: "Rika and girls talk? In what universe?"
"Let's just say I had a revealing conversation and I guess she needs some kind of advice from her girl friends. By the way, what's up with Jeri? She walked by me without even looking up, hands into fists and swearing under her breath. She seemed pretty upset."
"I think it's just the fact that Takato completely ignored her cause he was all over Guilmon", the blue haired chuckled. "I go over to Kazu now. Wanna join?" Ryo shook his head: "Nah, that's nothing for me." He held up his bottle of beer: "I stick to the stuff I know." "Alright, see you later then."
Henry joined Kazu who had just finished rolling a joint. With an exhausted sigh he sat down next to the visor wearing guy. "What's wrong computer boy?" "Ah, nothing, I'm just...exhausted I guess. All the programming and then the stress with your little accident that brought Hempmon to life...I just wanna relax now that our partners are safe and sound with us."
Takato came into view and sat with them: "Are we getting started on this?" He pointed at the 'special' cigarette. Kazu grinned and nodded: "Whenever you're ready man."
"Terriermon, why don't you and Guilmon go and play? We need to discuss something in private", suggested the blue haired. The digimon left and went down to the lake. Takato grinned: "Discuss something? Really? Don't you think they will find out anyway that something's wrong? Or let's say different, not wrong." "Probably. But I don't want Terriermon see me doing that."
Kazu intervened: "C'mon dude, it's been...what...like ten years? It's normal that we've changed and are doing different stuff! Now quit whining and take the johnny!" Takato snorted: "AMEN!" All three chuckled and laughed while consuming the relaxing herbs.
Not long after that the girls came out. Rika went straight to Ryo...or more like straight past him towards the beer box. "I need a drink!", was all she said before popping the bottle open and almost downing it completely in one gulp. She swallowed hard and shook her head, still in disbelieve of what had happened minutes ago.
As she slumped down on one of the logs around the fireplace, Ryo eyed her carefully. He was about to make one of his remarks as he recalled the conversation from earlier. This was not the time to make a stupid joke. Something was on her mind and she didn't look like she wanted to talk about it. He got up and pulled himself another beer out of the box. The young man sat beside her, in an appropriate distance, but said nothing. "She will tell me, when she's ready. Or drunk enough." At the last sentence he grinned.
While the guys were busy getting high, Alice and Jeri walked across the field and towards the fire. "You know", the brunette started, "this reminds me of Kazus 18th birthday two years ago." They sat down across the guys while Alice said: "Oh, you mean the time we were at that BBQ hat in the woods?" "Yeah", Jeri sighted happily, looking at Takato with dreamy eyes, "those were fun times, right Takato?"
Said goggle-head felt some pleasant memories rising. His altered state of mind let him remember all the dirty stuff his ex girlfriend did to him while they were hiding in the bushes.
As he came back to reality his face lit up and a wave of heat shot through his body while Jeri took a seat beside him and whispered in his ear, sensually: "It's a shame we can't do these things anymore..."
Takato swallowed hard and stuttered: "I...we...eeerm..." The combination of his confusion and the THC from the joint put him in a weird spot. All those good memories, the fact they broke up and the situation with Rika...his head felt like exploding. His mind shut down and he gave in.
What could possibly go wrong? They were here to relax and party, so what about a little back fling with Jeri? She wouldn't take it as a relationship comeback, now would she?
While completely lost in his thoughts he must've been staring straight at Rika all the time, which aggravated Jeri to a point where she slapped him across the face in anger. "STOP LOOKING AT HER!", she screamed with tears in her eyes, "I'M the one that's into you! I'M the one you should be looking at! I'm the ONLY ONE you should look at!"
Everyone at the campsite went quiet and looked at the jealous woman. The stinging pain in Takatos now red cheek brought him back to reality and made him sober in an instance. He held the pulsating part of his face with his hand, stood and walked a few steps. He turned and said coldly: "And that's the exact reason I broke up with YOU."
Silence.
For a few unbearable seconds not even the wind made a sound.
"And now excuse me", Takato said and walked away, heading down to the lake.
