Chapter 9

Mr. Shen was one of the deputy district attorneys in Zootopia. He was a white peacock who had always waged war against the financial sector and what he called the law of the dollar, or more money gives power. He had repeatedly tried to get the district attorney to file criminal charges against the city's richest people for one reason or another. Sometimes without much to go on. Now he had a new goal in mind. Ashlen Monroe Porcupine, the richest person in the world and someone he had investigated in recent weeks. He did not get her tax return to match her company's income. He suspected her of tax evasion. What he did not know was that Ash paid taxes in several countries and large parts of her assets were top secret.

"Now I have all the evidence I need to prosecute her for tax evasion for billions of dollars. This will be the court case that gives my career the boost it deserves. Even if her lawyers manage to save her from a long prison sentence, I will be famous. At the next election, I will be the district attorney. But how do I persuade the current one to issue an arrest warrant? He's at the mayor's dinner, Lady Porcupine is there too. I know what to do".

Shen went up from his desk and out into the corridor, he carefully went to his superior's office and saw that it was empty. He went to the desk and took out a certain document and a number of stamps. Shen began issuing an arrest warrant and forging the district attorney's signature.

"He will thank me when it's all over. When We have solved the biggest case of economic crime in history".

Shen called the police to get a police force to arrest Ash at City Hall.

"Zootopia Police Station number 10, Officer Clawhauser"!

"This is Deputy District Attorneys Mr. Shen! I have a case from the District Attorney that needs to be done now! An arrest warrant for the following person is currently being faxed over. Make sure this person is arrested within an hour. She can be found at City Hall"!

Officer Benjamin Clawhauser wondered why the name seemed familiar, but he called in a group of new police officers who needed experience.

"This is an arrest warrant from the district attorney. You can take four police cars and arrest the person on the arrest warrant. A picture is included to recognize her. He wants her behind bars within an hour".

Meanwhile, Ash was at the mayor's dinner party with most of the city's most powerful people. Normally, the mayor would sit at the short side of the table, but Ash soon discovered that she was placed there. The mayor was a shrew with big eyebrows, black suit with a red flower. He had some polar bears in his staff like Ash. And they called him Mr. Big to Ash confusion. Ash did not pay much attention to the dinner; she was more worried about how she would explain to Maya that she had broken the law to get her acquitted prematurely. She was sitting next to the mayor and the district attorney, who was a snow leopard in a grey suit. Mr Lung talked about his successful court cases and Ash did not want to listen to him very much. The dinner had been going on for over an hour and Ash was starting to get tired of all the nonsense. She had an irritated glance and the others around the table took the hint. The dinner ended with a toast to Ash's honour and most people began to leave the hall.

Ash drove her wheelchair towards the exit followed by Elsa and some bodyguards. What Ash did not notice was that Elsa and the bodyguards stopped and started discussing the journey home, she continued forward. At the exit! Ash noticed to her surprise that she was alone. She saw a group of police officers outside the door and she decided to get out. She did not think anything could happen, with a large group of police officers outside the door. The group of new police officers saw the female porcupine in a wheelchair open the door and recognized her from the photo.

"Miss Porcupine?!"

"Yes, it's me"!

"You're under arrest! You have the right to remain silent and to refuse to answer questions.

Anything you say may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without an attorney present, you will still have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to an attorney".

Ash thought someone made a practical joke at her expense, so she played along to have some fun before the day was over.

"Okay, I admit it. I'm guilty! Put on handcuffs and take me away".

The police officers got a little confused and they hesitated to put handcuffs on a female porcupine in a wheelchair that was smaller than themselves. But it did anyway, and Ash was soon in the back seat of a police car. The wheelchair was in the trunk of another police car. The police cars drove away before a panicked Elsa followed by a large group of bodyguards rushed out of the city hall. Elsa had not noticed that Ash continued to move forward when the others stopped and when she noticed that she was gone she panicked slightly. When she could not find her anywhere and was told that Ash had been seen leaving the building, she quickly ran out with the rest in tow. But she could not see Ash anywhere.

"Where is she! She could not have left the building more than a few minutes ago! She's not in sight! Everyone to the cars I want every street nearby searched. Alert the police, the army, the air force, alert everyone that Lady Porcupine is missing".

In her panic, Elsa did not realize that that Ash had tracking devices in her bracelet and more in her clothes. And not the other bodyguards either.

"I want her found within 10 minutes or I'll shoot you all, useless fools".

While Elsa turned half the area upside down, Ash sat in the back seat of a police car and giggled. "I can bet that it's Elsa who arranged this joke. I have to come up with a suitable counterattack, maybe replace her shoes with high heels. She would scream".

They reached the police station and Ash was taken to an interrogation room and left alone in a hard chair. With a glass of water on the table. She was still wearing handcuffs. Meanwhile, Mr. Lung had returned to his office where he met Shen, who happily showed him a document and explained what he had done. All the colour left Mr. Lung's face and he felt faint. Mr. Lung knew that he had to act very wisely if he was to save his career. Lady Porcupines lawyers would destroy many for this insult against her. He has to find a scapegoat and luckily there was a perfect idiot who would be blamed for this mess. He grabbed Shen by the neck and dragged him into his office for a long conversation about his future prospects in the profession. Or no future at all when Elsa would be done with him. Large sections of the city's police force and units from the army searched for Ash. No one had yet linked her to the porcupine that was arrested. Police Chief Bogo had returned early from his vacation in the hope that Ash had already returned home. He walked past a window to one of the interrogation room, he saw a familiar person sitting in the chair with handcuffs and drinking a glass of water. This person looked both tired and very annoyed after sitting alone in the room for almost three hours.

Ash thought the joke went too far. Three hours in this uncomfortable chair in her condition. Someone would have to pay for this. If it was Elsa, she would reduce her salary by half for a year. She drank the last of the water and looked around to see if there was a camera somewhere in the room.

"Hello, can anyone hear me, this is not fun anymore. The person behind this joke will have to pay dearly when I put my paws on him".

After three hours, Elsa had calmed down enough to be able to think about the track devices. The tracks led to police station number 10 and a very large group of heavily armed polar bears in combat gear with Elsa in the lead tried to enter the police station. The police station was locked and those inside had taken protective positions with drawn weapons. A firefight was imminent. Then a black limousine with British flags arrived and a sheep in a suit with a briefcase stepped out. It was the British ambassador who was currently in the city and had heard about the incident through contacts. He walked calmly through the large group of polar bears and Elsa and knocked on the door of the police station.

"Open the door if you want to avoid a serious diplomatic crisis between our countries. I am the British Ambassador, and I would like to meet someone in charge of this police station immediately or my government will contact the President.

A very nervous rabbit peeked out the door. There was a sheep in a suit. A white wolf dressed as a ninja and over 50 heavily armed polar bears. Judy understood that if they were to storm the police station, it would be a bloodbath. But she did not know why this military force was besieging the police. It did not make sense.

"Good day! My name is Ambassador Whitewool! I represent the British Government and I have received information that you are holding a British citizen with diplomatic immunity imprisoned at this police station. I request an immediate meeting with the Chief of Police and the release of the person in question. Refusal to comply with my request would have consequences at government level. Lady Ashley Monroe Porcupine is closely related to the royal family and the queen will be very annoyed by this incident. I have been instructed to take her into my care until she can be taken to Britain to visit the royal family".

Judy wanted to faint. If the young porcupine she heard had been taken in for questioning and Lady Porcupine was the same person, she could start growing carrots again. But in order not to make the situation even worse, she let in the ambassador and Elsa, who slipped in before the door was closed. Elsa ignored all the nervous police officers and ran up the stairs to locate Ash. She could hear the very angry porcupine banging hard on the door.

"Let me out! It's not fun anymore! when I get hold of those behind this, I will strangle them with my bare hands. Let me out now!

Elsa saw Ash through a window, she stood up and banged on the door. Elsa could see that Ash had handcuffs. She got really furious. Bogo sat beneath the window with his hands in front of his eyes. He hoped that this was a nightmare. Suddenly he felt someone pull him up on his feet and he stood face to face with a very large white wolf completely dressed in black.

"Can you please explain to me why my responsibility is in the interrogation room in handcuffs when her health is fragile, and she should be in bed hours ago. What crime could she have committed? She has been under constant surveillance for two months. In addition, she has diplomatic immunity. I will make sure that the full power of the Porcupine Empire punishes everyone who was responsible for her discomfort tonight. But open that door now"!

Elsa's voice was icy cold, and Bogo felt shivers along his back. He was almost twice the size of the wolf, but he was sure that the wolf could kill him in an instant if she wanted to. Bogo unlocked the door and inside sat the world's most powerful woman on a metal chair, and she was almost as angry as Elsa.

"Bogo?! What is the meaning of this? Is this a bad joke? answer me now"!

Ash was exhausted, and furious. Her body could not take it anymore, so she fainted and fell forward towards the table and hit her head and had a concussion again.

Elsa ran to Ash and took her in her arms and carried her out of the room and laid her down on a couch. She could see that she was bleeding from her forehead. Ash breathed normally and her pulse was steady, but Elsa was both furious and very worried. Ash needed medical attention now. And those handcuffs would come off immediately. Elsa opened them in a few seconds.

Bogo had taken the opportunity and slipped into his office. He turned off all the lights, locked the door, and hid under the desk. Why was Lady Porcupine in an interrogation room at his police station? She was injured, he saw her hit her head. The Commissioner of Police would kill him for this. It could be expected that the police would be sued with several million dollars in claims for damages. Several high-ranking officials would be fired. Bogo was sure his career was over. He would not even have a future as a traffic police now. What he did not know was how it all happened.

Mr. Lung was still yelling at Shen.

"You idiot! You had the most powerful woman in the world arrested! I have gone through your calculations and they have more errors than I have ever seen. There are no signs of any tax crimes. I promise you that when the heads start to roll, your head will roll before mine. Tomorrow we will contact some of Lady Porcupine employees and you will explain all this mess to them and that it was your fault that everything happened. I know a wolf named Elsa who would probably like to have a conversation with you. If you refuse, I find a way to prosecute you and throw you in prison for at least 10 years".

The mayor was just as worried. The city could not afford the gigantic claims for damages that would be required of them. Maybe as much as billions of dollars. Ash's lawyers were the best in the world, and she was obviously angry. What was just as bad, an international incident had taken place in his territory. Ash was closely related to the British royal family and they would take offense. Lady Porcupine had been injured in police care.

The British ambassador had found Elsa and the unconscious Countess Porcupine. He saw that she was bleeding from the head and was afraid that she had been beaten. That would be a disaster. Elsa had soon explained the situation to him, and he calmed down, her fall had been an accident and not an assault. Elsa quickly wanted to get Ash out of the building and to a safer place, she began to gently carry the unconscious Ash in her arms towards the exit while the ambassador followed.

"This is a very serious incident that has happened. A very high-ranking British subject to her majesty, injured and offended by the local police force. I will report everything to my government who will probably contact the President for further handling of the matter! I recommend that Lady porcupine leave the country and return to Great Britain and that she stays there for a while, the royal family would love to meet her again and she has large estates in the country that she should inspect. The queen is having a big party next weekend and she is invited."

"Thank you for your suggestion! I promise I will present your offer to her as soon as she wakes up and it is likely that she wants to leave the country for a while".

"Excellent! I will present everything to the government, and they will probably be happy to receive her in a few days when she is ready to travel".

Elsa and the ambassador reached the exit without being stopped; a large group of polar bears were still ready with weapons in their paws. When they saw the Ash in Elsa's arms, they lowered their guns. A doctor was on site and Ash was soon in the back seat of her limousine on the way to the penthouse she would not be allowed to leave for the next few days.

Buster had a problem. He had managed to get Ash to take back the theater, but now half the group was gone. Ash was sick, Johnny was in Europe. Gunter had taken a vacation and Mike had been fired. He wondered what he would do for a show this summer. Then he got an idea. A new singing competition with $ 1,000,000 in prize money. There were no problems when it was Ash who had to pay.

"I win again Ash"!

Ash had woken up in the morning and felt sick. She could not even care when everyone cared for her like a baby. She wanted revenge on someone but did not know who was behind this mess she was in. She was too ill to find out and wanted the headache to stop.

A few days later, she was recovered from a concussion and in a better mood. When she heard the whole story about the incident, she had begun to roar with laughter. It was all too absurd not to laugh and she called back all attempts to sue the city. She had enough money to buy what she wanted she did not need more. Ash had agreed on the proposed trip, for the reason that she hoped to find Johnny there in Great Britain. She knew that their estate was next door and had decided to move into Porcupine Palace For a few weeks or more. Becky was given one last task before leaving the city. To rent something for Ash pleasure.

Later that evening in a large concert arena. Gazelle was preparing for tonight's big concert. Her dancers were ready, and the musicians were in place. She expected tens of thousands in the audience as usual. But when she peeked out, she got a shock. It was completely empty except for two porcupines, a white wolf and a large group of lions, polar bears and a few tigers behind her. Her agent approached her.

"Gazelle! You will not believe it, but a single customer bought all the tickets at once. Over 100,000 tickets for $ 50 per ticket sold. That's over $ 5 million for a single private show. Well! Lady Porcupine can afford it let's not disappoint her.

The whole group went out on stage to perform for the world's richest guest. Gazelle knew that this guest had a singing voice that could measure up to hers. Ash was more famous for her voice than she knew herself and many major record companies would like to get their hands on her. She could have made a fortune on music if she was not already rich. Gazelle began to sing and dance.

The next day, everyone left the penthouse and headed to the military base, where Ash Gulfstream G700 was waiting to fly Ash and her many bodyguards to Great Britain. An escort of fighter jets stood ready and the plane took off from the ground. After about an hour in the air, the plane was over the Atlantic. The escort of fighter jets had to leave them due to lack of fuel, but Ash would not be surprised if a new one would meet up at Europe. She had a mug of tea in one hand and an orange in the other as she looked out the window. Her $ 100 million plane seemed to work well. After drinking the tea, she began to feel very tired. Not again!

"Elsa! You're a hopeless villain. you cannot expect any Christmas bonus this year". Ash collapsed on the soft bed and was soon in a deep sleep again. Elsa was confused. She had not put sleeping pills in Ash tea this time. Then she saw Maya Iceberg grin at her.

In the UK, Johnny was still on his new estate. He had planned to leave it and travel back to the United States days ago, but the service staff had come up with countless excuses to keep him there for a while. Now he had received an invitation to a party with the royal family at the end of next week. He had been discreetly told by the butler that it would be very rude not to accept a royal dinner party without a valid reason. Johnny was brought up to always be polite and respectful, even if his father was a career criminal, he had raised Johnny to be a gentleman. Now he was on a walk on his property bordering Ash with a stream between them. He noticed that there was an airfield some distance away from the palace building. He also heard that a plane was about to land. In the distance, he saw a private jet land on the runway and come to a stop at a hangar building. Johnny took out a telescope and began to look at the plane and the passengers who got out of it.

He saw a large group of polar bears and a white wolf. A black limousine was on its way to the plane from the palace. He saw a porcupine that looked like Becky leaving the plane and then he almost dropped the telescope. Ash on crutches was on her way down the steps. She jumped into the limousine with Becky and the white wolf and a larger polar bear. The limousine drove back to the palace while the larger group began walking towards the main building.

"Ash is here! I have to visit her. But I should wait until tomorrow, it is nearly evening".

Ash discovered once again that she had a very large bedroom with a classic four-poster bed. The service staff on this estate was even worse in their handling of her, she thought. She could barely lift a finger without anyone trying to do it for her. She had locked the door to the bedroom and left the key in the lock so that no one could use another key. Ash jumped around the room on her crutches. She had started refusing to use the wheelchair yesterday, she wanted to start building her strength again. The room was bigger than her old apartment. There was a balcony that had a view of the park. The entire palace and surrounding land had several hundred employees of various kinds. Ash went to the wall and pressed a secret button. A steel door appeared, and Ash entered a code with 10 digits. The vault door opened, and Ash saw her family's large collection of jewels. She looked at different necklaces and earrings to find a suitable pair for the queen's party. She chose a necklace with diamonds and a larger sapphire at the bottom, earrings, she took a pair of large emeralds in perfect condition. Ash knew she was expected to wear a tiara but had no desire, she took one at random. As she left the vault and took a closer look at the tiara, she saw which one it was. She had received it from her grandmother when she was 15 years old. She did not know how it could have ended up here as she has not been in the country since she was 11 years old. It was made of white gold and adorned with white and blue pearls and over a hundred gemstones in all colours. Ash got tears in her eyes when she thought back to her once large family that had been wiped out in one night. She decided to use this tiara which was made by some of the world's foremost jewellers in the 19th century. Ash put the jewels in a drawer and looked into the large closet. several hundred different garments in her size even though she has not been there in 10 years. She wondered why she was not surprised.

Ash lay down on the bed and thought about what tomorrow would bring. Many times, she wished she was just Ash, a singer in a theater in the United States. But she knew that ship had sunk two months ago. She would never be able to escape again. She knew the economic consequences which would cause chaos in the world if she disappeared. Her conscience did not allow her to ruin the lives of millions of people, so she knew she had to sacrifice herself and make the best of the situation.

Bogo had received a letter delivered to his desk.

Bogo!

We met again yesterday, and once again you have been a part of my troubles. I could take revenge but I choose another path. This is what you should do to make me feel that we are done.

1. Take care of the parking duty yourself for at least two months!

2. Give Judy and Nick Wilde a raise, they deserve it. And they probably need money to start a family.

3. Do not be serious all the time. Life is more than responsibility and duty.
