The two duelists continued to race across the empty aurora lit void, mysterious waves in their wake.
Allen-4000 Lp.
Matéo-8000 Lp.
On Matéo's side was Divine Dragon-Lifelight, its radiant and phantasmal form alighting the battlefield. (2800ATK)
Allen's field bore the Summoned Skull, risen in attack position. It was currently his foe's turn.
"Divine Dragon-Lifelight! Purge the demon! Breath of Heaven!"
The beast drew its head back and let loose a sparkling breath of flames at the skull fiend. It covered its face in a vain attempt to shield itself as it was incinerated.
Allen winced as his Life fell to 3700.
"End of turn." Matéo said.
'That Dragon's going to be tough to beat...even if I summon Blue-Horizon, it won't gain a power boost because its not an Xyz…' Allen thought to himself. "My turn! Draw!"
He looked the card over. "I set two cards and end my turn." Images of the two briefly flashed into existence.
As soon as Matéo picked up his draw, Thunder of Ruler flipped up.
"A good strategy. I'll end my turn without doing a thing."
"Draw!" Allen shouted. "Now I'll activate the Trap Pendulum Rhythm!" His trap lifted up, and displayed the image of a silhouette of Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon roaring as several wizardly figures seemed to dance around him. "By banishing a Monster from my Graveyard, I can add two Pendulum Monsters from my Deck to my hand with the same Scale!"
Two cards stuck out from his downsized deck, and he plucked them out.
"From my hand, using Scale 1 Blazeborn Magician, and Windbreaker Magician, I set the Pendulum Scale!" In twin columns of pale blue light, the fiery Egyptian-garb wearing Spellcaster alighted. In the column next to her was another Spellcaster, resembling a younger boy with spectacles wearing Celtic fashions. He clutched a small rune-engraved dagger.
"When Windbreaker is placed in a Pendulum Zone across from another monster, I can draw a card. Additionally, if that monster happens to be another Magician, his scale becomes 7!" Allen said, drawing his card.
The phantasmal image of the Pendulum appeared, swinging back and forth between the two set scales.
"Destiny breaks away to reveal a new fate woven by humanity! Pendulum Summon! Come forth, my monster!" Allen chanted as the portal opened above them and disgorged a monster as a streak of light, taking form.
It was a small blue masculine imp with a green gem placed in its forehead, wearing a black tunic. Behind him was a similarly sized female imp wearing a flowing black sundress. The male stuck his orange tongue out at Matéo. (200Atk)
"The Tuner Monster, Dopplovers!" Allen began. "When this card is Pendulum Summoned from the hand, I can draw a card." The female imp vanished and reappeared on his Duel Runner, cautiously handing him a card from the Disk. "Thank you." She smiled, nodded before returning to the battlefield behind her counterpart. "Next, if I use these two for a Synchro Summon, I can double their level!" The male imp inhaled deeply before bulking up heavily, much to his mate's approval. (2-4)
"You wanted to see my Dragon? Well here he is!" Allen began. "I tune my Level 4 Dopplovers with Level 4 Mitos Magician!"
The two imps united their hands before splitting into four points of light that stretched out into four Synchro Rings. The rings encompassed the Magician, who then turned into four stars.
"The master of the speed-winds, descend here and now! To me, with the force of a gale! Synchro Summon! Take flight, Blue-Horizon Dragon!" The shining beast emerged from the ensuing burst of light, taking a stance against Lifelight. Both dragons let out roars at each other. (2500ATK)
"The contestants have appeared." Matéo noted. "Unfortunately Divine Dragon-Lifelight has the advantage."
"Not for long! I activate Synchro Mists!" Allen jammed the card into his Disk and his Dragon was coated in a green haze.
"This equip spell grants my Synchro Monster an additional 400ATK, and keeps him from being killed in battle once per turn!" (2500-2900ATK)
Matéo remained unflinching as he took the lead, turning around on his hovering stone tablet to face him. "If you mean to battle, then have at us!"
Allen whipped his arm. "Blue-Horizon attacks Lifelight! Godspeed Flash Descent!"
Blue-Horizon shone with intense light, spinning toward his opponent at increasing speed.
Before it could hit, Lifelight transmuted into sparkles of holy looking light.
"What's this?" Allen was shocked.
Matéo produced another card. "Its Lifelight's effect-if he's the only monster I control, I can tribute him to evoke a Dragon from my Extra Deck or Graveyard. That beast's attack points are subsequently doubled!"
"H-huh!?"
"Come, Dawnstar Dragon!"
In a flash of light, a clearly western style dragon with copper skin, a glowing blue core and a silver spine running down into a bright pink contrail appeared. (2400ATK) It bellowed deeply as it grew to twice its present size. (2400-4800ATK)
"Great!" Allen winced at the sight of it.
"And now I'll employ the use of my Skill!" Matéo declared.
"Skill? Whaddya mean, Skill?"
"Each duelist has an inherent ability that can be tapped into during a duel called a Skill. When certain criteria are met, it can be used once per duel!" He raised his hand skyward. "Deathless Dragon!"
A graveyard portal opened between the two duelists. "At the end of the turn my Dragon monster is sent to the Graveyard, I can bring it back!"
Divine Dragon-Lifelight reappeared with a growl. (2800ATK)
'Ohh great...him again.' Allen grimaced.
"And now its my turn. I draw!" Matéo drew another card. "Dawnstar Dragon, lay waste to Blue-Horizon!
The fiery beast reared its head back and loosed a celestial flame from its mouth. The blue scaled dragon tried its best to resist, but was consumed.
Allen shielded his face with his arm. "Dammit!!" 1700 Lp.
"The turn is done...make your move." Matéo said.
Allen winced. That blast from Dawnstar took a lot out of him. He struggled to maintain a decent path on his cycle, so he wouldn't fall.
As he went for his next card, he saw a blipping alert on his screen. Skill.
"What's the old thing about things coming around?" Allen asked as he flew ahead of him. "My turn! Draw!" After taking his next card, he hit the button on the touch screen. "I activate my Skill!"
A window on the makeshift Duel Runner's screen popped up, detailing the skill itself. "When my life points are below two-thousand, I can add...one random monster lurking in...the Celestial Storm?" He shook his head and continued reading. "-To my Deck or Extra Deck!"
Immediately, he felt his wheels shudder as a blue wake kicked up in the distance. One that approached him at a breakneck pace. "Wh-what!?"
Mateo's stoic expression lightened with a small smile. "Brave the storm, good duelist!"
Allen felt the chilling aura of the wave brush around him as it hit. He found it harsher to steer or even maintain acceleration. He squinted and could see a vague glimmer of light coming toward him. He extended his free arm while using the other to maintain a hold on the bike. A small rectangular mote of light passed just before his hand, and he heard a roar. It was a lonely and distant one, more akin to a wail.
A huge shadow passed by overhead, and swooped around him to show the silhouette of a wyvernous dragon. Allen found himself staring blankly at the creature's blood red eyes before it reared back and was sucked into the card before his hand. Allen clenched his jaw and shot forward on his Duel-Runner converted bike, taking the card as the storm dispersed.
"He's done it." Matéo mouthed as Allen held the blank card up to see it molding into a new form.
"This card…" Allen began before placing the card he'd drawn onto his Disk. "I summon Flamvell Guard!" A small dragonian creature appeared, swathed in flames.
"And now I tune my monsters!" Flamvell Guardian shrieked as his flames created a single ring that encircled Blue-Horizon, who inturn became a silhouette of himself, eight stars lining up down the middle.
"He...he is using his Dragon!?" Matéo gasped. "What did the Storm bless him with!?"
"The crimson dusk arrives with a howl, an insatiable voice calling for retribution!" Allen chanted. "Synchro Summon! Cast your shadow, Dark-Horizon Dragon!"
In a flash of green light, a more wyvernous dragon, with wide wings tipped with black spikes, and a spiked tail. It had a dark purple body, with visible red veins running across it's form. A broken ring adorned it's back, and it's crocodilian jaw loomed forward, red smoke spilling from it. (3200ATK/2700DEF)
"A new Dragon?" Matéo grimaced, before speeding up.
"Dark-Horizon Dragon's effect! When he's Synchro Summoned, I can return a monster sleeping in my graveyard to my Deck, and deal damage to my opponent equal to it's Attack Points!" The beastly monster flapped it's wings as it's spikes jutted out into tendrills that coiled before him, and in a flash of dark light, unfurled them to reveal Blue-Horizon, who vanished into motes of light that flowed into Allen's Extra Deck slot. Dark-Horizon glowed red, before spewing a lava-like substance at Matéo, making him recoil and wince as his hoverstone spiralled for a moment.
Matéo-5500Lp.
"Now, Dark-Horizon will attack Lifelight!" Allen called. "Hades Suppression!"
The dragon reared it's head back, pooling dark energy into its chest, coursing it into his mouth, and released a wave of dark smoke from it's mouth, which consumed the phantasmal Dragon.
Matéo covered his eyes as the attack's whiplash blew dust about. 8000-7600Lp.
"It isn't over yet." Matéo declared. "As Lifelight's effect couldn't trigger, I assume your new beast has an effect that prevents the defending monster's special abilities from activating."
Allen cast a wary glance at Dark-Horizon's card to confirm this. "Yup!"
"Then I will have to overcome th-what?" The priestly young man's form glowed golden for a brief moment.
"Problem?" Allen asked, before he could see his opponent slowing down. Puzzled, he matched his decrease in speed until they fully stopped, monsters vanishing.
"Your friend is in imminent danger. We can continue this no longer." Matéo began. "But you have shown me a spark of your capabilities. You are indeed worthy. Your ability to use Storm Access, the legendary skill is proof of that."
"Kevin is in danger?" Allen began. "But how am I gonna get to him?"
Matéo raised his arm, and about a hundred meters behind him, a wall of light appeared behind him. "Enter the real world through there. We will meet again."
Allen wasn't sure about whether or not to trust Matéo or not, but he had no other option. Throwing caution to the wind, he revved his motorcycle's engine, before speeding into the portal.

On the outskirts of the city, Kevin Huang walked by himself down a trail, lightly drenched by the rain. "So I stand alone…" The fledgling duelist monologued. "A friend displaced, and abandoned by the army that would have him."
The shuffling of footsteps caught his attention. He turned around to see a man with ratty-looking hair, and wearing a clown mask, with a high-collared shirt and simple red trousers. The Barian Emblem adorned his forhead.
"For the glory. Of Barian." The clown began, duel disk shifting into active position.
Kevin scoffed. "This is the best those alien dudes had to offer? Not a soldier. Not a mercenary. But a clown?" He started to shuffle his deck lazily before putting it back into his Disk slot. "I am insulted."
Both duelists pulled their opening hand as their life meters appeared at 4000 apiece.
"I'll go first." The Geek began, drawing his first card. "I activate Unexpected Dai: A Spell Card that allows me to bring forth a Normal Monster with a Level of four or less from my Deck. I summon Saggi the Dark Clown in attack position."
Seto Kaiba's iconic clown appeared in a shifting flash of light and a wicked cackle. (600ATK/1500DEF)
"Next I invoke upon Mystic Clown in attack position." A more fiendish, almost amphibious humanoid with a clown undertone appeared. (1500ATK/)
"Next I set one card and end my turn." A reversed card appeared before him in a flurry of yellow pixels.
"My turn. Draw!" Kevin began, drawing his sixth card. "You failed to realize that you left a weaker monster in attack mode. I summon Battlesage Cavalier Percival in attack mode."
A strikingly impressive warrior wizard appeared before him, clad in silver armor studded with amethyst, and carrying a bladed staff with a red stone. (1900ATK/2000DEF)
"Cavalier Percival, attack his soggy clown, with Brave Burst!"
"Huaaah!" The magic knight waved his weapon, and dispersed the clown with a blood red flash of light.
Clown Geek: 2700Lp.
"I activate the Michizure Trap Card." The masked man said, revealing his face down. "This destroys your monster in retribution!"
"Gone so soon?" The young Asian-American duelist gasped as a chasm ripped open and a clawed hand dragged Percival down into the pit. As he slid the card toward his graveyard slot, he took notice of its text. "Hold on there. This says that whenever it's destroyed by card effect, I can activate a Trap Card from my hand!"
The teen slapped the card onto his Disk. "Go, Dark Hand Conspiracy!"
"What is that!?" The Geek inquired, annoyedly.
"It lets me discard two cards to invoke a monster of Darkness from my Deck!" He slipped two cards into his grave. "Come out, Stellarstar Strong-arm!" A dynamo appeared on his field behind him, with hulking muscles, and wearing a bluetoga that had a flame-like appearance, his body reflecting a starscape, with swirling galaxies coarsing across his form. (3000ATK/2200DEF)
"This worm had a card like that!?" The clown duelist stepped back. "No matter. It is nothing I can't handle."
"Wanna bet? When this big dude declares an attack, he gains 200 attack points! And he can make as many attacks as there are monsters on my opponent's field!"
"It does what!?"
"Strong-arm! Attack his other clown thing with Thunder Blow!"
The demi-god-like figure drew his fist back, mystical energies pulsing through his arm. He punched the air, sending a row of fiery energy at Mystic Clown, turning him into dust.
The mind controlled Geek staggered, falling to a knee and a hand as his life plummeted to 1000.
"Not yet...not...yet…" The masked mind controlled duelist seethed on the ground.
"I end my turn with a face down of my own. Better make this one good!" Kevin taunted.
"It is my turn…" The pawn said, rising and drawing his next card. "Excellent. I activate Swords of Revealing Light." A wall of glowing swords rained down, blocking Kevin and his monsters off.
"What kinda magic is this!?" Kevin asked, reaching out and touching one of the "swords", only to have his fingers shocked. "Yowch!"
"This card remains in play for three of your turns. You can't attack me. But I can hit you! Next I summon Crane Crane in attack position." A crane in the shape of the bird of the same name appeared next to him, lowering it's beak-shaped hook into a grave portal. "When it's Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon a Level three monster from my Graveyard. So I'll bring back Saggi." The crane hook retracted from the portal, with the wicked clown clutching on for safety.
"I Overlay my two Monsters to construct the overlay network!" The Geeks' two monsters became an orange and purple orb of light, each swirling into a red vortex. "From the depths of madness, a curtain call sounds, signaling the start of the slaughter! Xyz Summon!" The portal closed up, and exploded into a vibrant shower of light as a new form took shape. "To the stage, Fríki the Demented Ringleader!"
A tattered and bloodstained harlequin appeared, carrying a black scepter. A pair of moth-like wings fluttered behind him as he took to the stage. Two glowing Overlay Units orbited his body. (2100ATK/100DEF/2OLU)
"Did those aliens take more than your personality there?" Kevin asked. "Your monster's still nine-hundred points behind!"
"I activate Fríki's monster effect." The clown geek waved his arm. "By detaching an Overlay Unit, I can place two Horror Counters on your Strong-arm."
"What does that do?" Kevin asked as a pair of bestial maws opened up on either one of his demigod's arms.
"It reduces his attack points by 600 for each." 3000-1800 ATK.
Kevin blinked and took a step back. "N-no fair. I call bullshit!"
"Fríki the Demented Ringleader, attack his Stellarstar Strong-arm! Hell's Wilde!"
The jester planted his staff into the ground, which shook apart as four tentacles tipped with fanged mouths erupted from bellow, grabbing hold of the starry humanoid, and pulling him apart.
Kevin grit his teeth, as a searing sensation spread through his body. 4000-3700Lp. "That's...not so bad."
"When my Ringleader destroys a monster by battle, he deals you a thousand points of damage!" The Geek continued.
"What!?" Kevin called again, before being blasted onto his backside by a red lightning bolt. 2700 Lp.
"I end my turn." The pawn added. "Just know that the next...will be your last."
"I draw…" Kevin picked the card up. 'Polymerization? What good is that if I don't have anything to fuse?' He looked the other card over and started chuckling, before walking back and forth. "You think you're so big and bad with your fancy 'Exceed' Monster...but let's see what happens when he's matched up against a real Monster. Activating the Spell Card Boundary Fusion!"
The card showed an image of two Blue-Eyes White Dragons intercepted by a wall of light, but each grazing said barrier with their claws.
"As long as this Spell is in play, I can combine monsters in my graveyard by Banishing them!"
"So I'll use this card to fuse my Battlesage Cavalier Percival and Stellarstar Strong-arm in my graveyard!" He slid Polymerization into his Spell Zone, and the magic warrior appeared on the battlefield, followed by the demigod. The two swirled together and were replaced by a new monster; it was a green and blue armored spellcaster, with eight star-emblazoned talismans floating around him. (2600ATK/2400DEF)
"Say hello to Battlesage Lightshower." Kevin said. "When he's summoned, I can draw two cards." He picked them up from his Deck and smiled. "And now I'll deal with your swords with Twister!" He held up a card depicting a tornado running rampant. "By paying 500 life points, I can destroy one face up Spell or Trap Card!" The Swords of Revealing Light were shredded into motes of light by a column of spiralling wind.
Kevin-3200 Lp.
"Now, attack his freaky monster!"
"I use Fríki's Monster Effect!" The Geek began. As the ringleader waved his baton, Lightshower thrusted his palm forward, with one of his talismans flying forward and striking the jester with a beam of green light.
"It seems my monster shuts down your effect when he attacks. The battle will continue! Magna Burst!"
The magician waved his hands, channeling the talismans mystical energies, and shooting bursts of blue magic at his enemy, shattering him.
The Geek covered his eyes as his Life Points fell to 500. "This is not over...I'm still in the battle."
"For now. I place one card face down. End of turn."
"Draw." His enemy declared, picking up his next card. "I...activate Monster Reborn to recall Fríki to the field in defense position." The jester reappeared, kneeling in defense. 'If only I had Barian's Force!'
"Well. It looks like the day belongs to me." Kevin smirked as he drew. "I summon Battlesage Cloke in attack mode!" The cloaked, dagger-wielding sorcerer appeared before him next to Lightshower. (1800ATK/800DEF)
"Double Battlesages Attack!" Kevin concluded, with Lightshower using his talisman-light attack, vaporizing Fríki once more, and Cloke rushing in to slash the Clown Geek with his weapon, knocking him down. 500-0 Lp.
The mind-controlled pawn cringed as a red miasma emanated from his form. "Uggh! Aaagh!" He groaned, before losing consciousness. Kevin shut his Disk down and marched up as the Barian Emblem vanished from his fallen foes' forehead.
Without thinking of anything else, Kevin knelt down to slowly peel the clown mask from the strangers face, revealing him to be a caucasian male with greying hair in his mid-fifties. "Sorry I had to do that, old man." He cast a glance at a few stray cards that had fallen from the Geek's Duel Disk and picked one up to investigate.
As soon as he touched it, he grit his teeth as a pulse rippled through his body. "Auugh! Christ!" He howled as he dropped it and backed away, falling down.
When he thought it was safe, he loomed over to get a better look at the card, now face up. Against better judgement, he picked it up again, not being shocked again.
He sat there looking at it for what felt like an eternity before the sound of an engine coming into existence snapped him back to reality.
Allen's motorcycle whizzed past him before shutting down. Kevin saw that it looked slightly different-sleeker, with Allen's Duel Disk now plugged into a sort of dashboard.
"Kevin!" Allen shouted, jumping off and stretching before running up. "Are you alright?" He saw the stranger on the ground, and immediately become wary. "What happened?"
"This guy jumped me and we started a duel." Kevin put his hands to his waist proudly. "And I whooped that ass, bro."
"Y...you did?" Allen asked, perplexed.
"What, don't believe me? Here's his card, right here!" Just as Allen saw the picture on the card, the Duel Soldier immediately grabbed it, and threw it on the ground.
"That's Barian's Force, Kevin! Are you mad? That's how the enemy controls people!"
Kevin's eyes bulged. "Holy shit, you don't think I could be brainwashed? The thing shocked me!" His friend placed a hand on his forehead, to his confusion. "Um...bro?" His eyes twitched, as he could feel an unseen force moving about in his mind.
Allen's eyes opened as he halted his mental exam. "You're okay. Come on. Get on the bike. We're returning to base before I'm reported MIA."
"O...okay then...let's not keep everyone waiting them." Allen got in the drivers seat as his friend mounted after him. He started the now Momentum-powered bike up, and took off, but not before Kevin glanced back at the Barian card lying on the ground.

In Barian World, Rionus, Guese and Zirius had watched Kevin's battle. Guese was shocked that not only did Kevin defeat the pawn, but that Allen had mysteriously reappeared and managed to regroup with him. Zirius simply watched observantly without saying anything.
"How is this possible?" Guese asked. "This one was nothing more than a simpleton! How could he defeat our drone?"
"It seems he is learning to adapt. He's paying more attention to his cards." Zirius said. "But I have the utmost confidence that if one of us with unique decks could effortlessly trounce him.
Rionus smiled, showing the teeth of his fully formed human-like mouth. "How amusing...it seems young Allen Lassley and the resistance leader are not the only ones able to pique my interest." The Barian king turned to his subjects. "But you were saying that we are facing an attack on another front?"
"Yes, indeed, sire." Zirius continued. "It began some months ago. Strange creatures, neither Barian nor human, but human in shape were spotted attacking our drones, engaging and defeating them in duels. They claim to be led by a man who claims to be in league with Astral World. They call him…
"Ziro."
Rionus received this information with a deep laugh. "So the Astral World challenges us? Very well. We will snuff them out in turn." He watched the two young men ride off for their headquarters through the view crystal. "All...in good time." His white eyes narrowed at the sight of them.
Guese turned to see Batal half-limping from the incubation area. The silver-skinned and spiky red-violet haired Barian and the orange-skinned one locked eyes with a glare.
"Brother...I see you're still recovering from being roused from your sleep." Guese acknowledged him.
"Don't patronize me, brother. I must return to the human world." Batal spat. "I will have my revenge against the man who humiliated me."
"Not like that you won't. You will remain here...until you have the sufficient power to destroy Lassley." Rionus said. Batal turned to him and kneeled.
"My lord. What would you have me do?"
"Zirius is working on cards to counteract his strange Pendulum monsters as I've heard they're called. As well as his Synchro Monsters. When they are complete, you will incorportate them into your deck. Then you will be free to do battle with your adversary."
"As you wish." Batal rose up and left his sight.
"And what of me, sire?" Guese asked.
"I have nothing for you at the moment. For now, leave me be, and rest yourself."
Guese bowed, turning and leaving.
"Allen Lassley...Jacob Marker, Ziro...and Kevin Huang...the gladiators amongst the humans. Know that your days are numbered."

Allen has passed Matéo's trial, and obtained a new powerful monster, and Kevin has survived his first true test. But what machinations does Rionus have for them? I don't have a card name for chapter 10, but hopefully something will come along.
