The next morning, Kogoro went to a nearby café where he and Eri will be meeting. When he got there, he saw Eri waiting for him, she waved her hand so that he can see her. Kogoro went to the table and they ordered their food.
"You're sure that no one followed you?" Eri started, glancing at her surroundings. Kogoro nodded at her.
"Now tell me, what's wrong with Ran? Is it serious?" Kogoro asked straight forward.
"I will tell you, but you need to promise me that you will not freak out or mad or attack someone to burst your anger." Eri warned him, glancing at her coffee and Kogoro nodded.
"Ran is pregnant and Shinichi-kun is the father." She said calmly, sipping at her coffee. Kogoro's mouth dropped open, eyes wide open, it is visible that he is shocked at this news. He was about to shout when Eri placed a finger in his mouth.
"I said don't freak out. The reason why I told you this because as her father, you have the right to know about this. And let's talk about Ran's future." Eri continued, Kogoro nodded again. The two talked about Ran, Eri decided that Ran should be homeschool and she will take her homeschool here or in America. Kogoro was about to protest but Eri kept on saying that it's for Ran's sake and that now no one must know about it for her safety, for their safety. Kogoro had no know choice but to agree, for Ran's sake he will do anything even if she will be apart from him.
"Can I see Ran? I miss her." Kogoro begged.
"Sure, you can but on two conditions." She muttered, Kogoro is listening. "You must come alone. Don't bring Conan with you. Also, don't be mad in front of her. You're gonna stress her. it's bad for the baby." Eri muttered.
"Eh? Why not Conan? I'm sure he misses her too. And besides, I think kids like his age can calm her." Kogoro explained.
"Yes, you're right but Ran requested that Conan must not know about this because she's supposed to be a role model to him and yet here she was. You understand, right?" Eri explained, Kogoro understood.
"Where's the detective boy who got my daughter pregnant?" Kogoro asked, Eri looked down.
"Shinichi-kun, he's nowhere to contact, right now." Eri said, Kogoro clenched his fist in anger but Eri placed her hand above his hand to calm him down.
The following days, Kogoro is always visiting Ran and he always stays there until dinner. Sometimes he even sleeping at Eri's place, Ran is happy because she felt that her family is finally complete. While Conan is always being rejected by Kogoro and Sonoko about her whereabouts, he even went to Teitan High School to ask her (their) classmates.
"Excuse me, do you know where Ran-neechan is?" Conan asked them.
"Hi, Conan-kun! Didn't you know? Ran-san already dropped school. Our teacher told us that she got homeschool because some of her father's enemy has been —" the student was interrupted when Sonoko covered her mouth.
"Conan-kun, what are you doing here?" Sonoko said, changing the topic as she pushed away the girls interrogated by Conan.
"Sonoko-neechan, where's Ran-neechan? Can I see her? I really miss her." Conan pleaded with puppy eyes. Sonoko's eyes soften, she bent to Conan's level and patted his head. "I'm sorry Conan-kun, it's Ran's secret not mine. I'll see what I can do. I'm sorry, Conan-kun." She said as she walked away from him.
At Agasa's house:
"Any leads Shinichi?" Agasa asked, looking at the sulking Conan
"Nothing Hakase." Conan answered, walking towards his room. "They're ignoring me. Ran has been homeschooling for an unknown reason."
"Why don't you contact Heiji-kun? Maybe his girlfriend might know something." Agasa suggested. Conan already thought about it but he didn't ask for Heiji's help because he might tease him. But he had no choice, he grabbed his phone and called him.
The next morning, Conan received a text from Heij, saying that he will fetch him because Kazuha will be meeting Ran and she told him that she will be going to meet her alone, as per Ran's request. Conan quickly dressed up and Heiji fetched him.
"What's the problem, Kudo-kun? Love quarrel with Nee-chan?" Heiji teased him while following Kazuha.
"Shut up!" Conan said.
They noticed that Kazuha always glancing around until she reached an unknown apartment. She was greeted by Ran who is also glancing at her surroundings and the first thing they noticed is her big belly.
"K-kudo-kun! What's that in Nee-chan's tummy?!" Heiji asked, grabbing him by the collar.
"I-I don't know! She wasn't like that when she left the house!" Conan explained, grasping some air after Heiji let go of him.
At Eri's apartment:
"R-ran-chan! Your tummy! Is that Kudo-kun's?" Kazuha said in a trembling voice.
"Yes. It's Shinichi's child. Thank you for coming all the way here, Kazuha-chan." Ran said as she hugged Kazuha.
"Anything for you! Does Kudo-kun even knew your pregnant?" she asked.
"No. He's nowhere to contact, right now." Ran answered, lowering her head.
Seeing her reaction, she panicked a little. So, she decided to change the topic to lift up the mood. "Don't be like that. We're here! How many months are you pregnant, anyway?" Kazuha said, smiling at her.
"I will be six months pregnant this month. The baby is good at kicking just like his father." Ran said, smiling at her.
"It's a — ?!" Kazuha exclaimed but Ran covered her mouth.
"Yes. You should be quiet about this. Don't tell Hattori-kun about this, he might tell Shinichi." She muttered, winking at Kazuha.
"Sure! I bet the baby will look like the little cutie Conan-kun!" she squealed.
"Yeah. Conan-kun really looked like Shinichi, maybe my baby will look like them. Also, can you also keep this is a secret? My pregna—" Ran was interrupted because Kazuha put a finger in her lips, ushering her "sshhh" sign.
"I heard someone listening to us at the door." Kazuha whispered making Ran's eyes widen. Kazuha's sense of hearing improved after playing karuta. She instructed Ran to play along so the two girls just keeping on chatting and laughing until Kazuha put fingers on the doorknob and quickly opened the door.
At the door, revealing to be Conan and Heiji whose ears are still on the door, eyes widen and shocked face still visible on their faces.
"H-hello…" Conan and Heiji said at the same time.
