Final Round
"Yeah! The end is gonna be fun!" The short midget Lord Zeno shouts out, clapping his hands. Beside him, his twin does the same, shouting in an equally shrill pitch. "The end! The end!" The twin gods look down upon the broken and brittle tournament stage, finding the remaining five fighters.
Naruto scowls at the four opponents. He mutters to himself. "Yo, Kurama? What do you think? We can either try to hang back and let those three fight that Ichigo guy, or we can get involved."
Inside him, the voice of the nine tailed fox speaks. "We could get lucky if he defeats all three of them, but odds are he'd lose to their numbers. Then we would find ourselves in the same position and lose to the three. We can't afford to put ourselves in a position to be so outnumbered like with those fools before."
Naruto huffs. "That's what I thought, but if we just help him beat them, he'll still be in a better position than us. He doesn't feel as bad off as we are in power." The grimace hardens to a determined glare. "We'll just have to get involved. We'll try to leverage the fight so he takes the most hits."
"Agreed."
Over the distance of broken land is Ichigo, who maintains a cool smoldering look between Naruto and the three opponents. "Bastard finally looks ready to fight, and we get company."
Within his mind, the unhinged, grating voice of his hollow powers sounds. "What is this? You can't claim to be scared, Amateur. You've always done your best work when backed into a corner."
Ichigo cracks a smirk. "Doesn't mean it can't still piss me off." He brandishes his blade, Zangetsu, releasing a surge of black reiatsu to wisp into the air. He roars into a growling snarl. "And I'll take that out on all of them!"
The energy rips out, blasting along the ground towards the spirit detective Yusuke and his allies. Crossing his arms to block, golden yellow energy glows around him into a dome shield. The shield splits the stream of black, Yusuke wincing at the strain.
Suddenly, the shield shatters, Ichigo speeding to land at Yusuke's side. The two lock eyes.
Final Fight
Ichigo whirls into a slash as Yusuke ducks. He spins into a roundhouse kick, Ichigo blocking with his offhand. Pushing Yusuke back off balance, Ichigo goes to slash, but Hiei strikes into Ichigo's guard with a flying knee. Yusuke ducks back, aiming a golden Spirit Gun!
Until gold comes from above.
Naruto slams down in front of Yusuke, smacking the Spirit Gun aside as it fires to miss. Naruto throws two punches. Yusuke parries one, blocks the other. He counter jabs and goes on the attack, but Naruto successfully ducks and blocks.
Naruto's turn to counter punch! Yusuke dodges it by inches, only for radiating sage power to catch Yusuke by the jaw and knock him back. Shaking the hit off, Yusuke's right arm glows gold. "Bastard!"
Behind Naruto, Ichigo parries Hiei with his sword and palms the demon in the gut. Hiei is launched into a broken mound to the side. While he's distracted, Naruto swaps places with Ichigo using the Substitution Jutsu!
Ichigo's eyes widen as he faces Yusuke's charged fist. "Shotgun!" The fist unleashes a barrage of blunt energy shots. Like machine gun fire, the attack unloads into Ichigo, landing dozens of shots on each limb before Ichigo is propelled over Naruto into an upturned corner of arena.
Out of harm's way, Naruto leaps towards Hiei, a Rasengan forms in his right hand. As he descends on the demon, a thorn vine wraps around his arm. Kurama wrenches Naruto from attacking Hiei. "Rose Whip!" He shouts as he flails Naruto into the ground.
He immediately collapses, catching his breath and holding his wounds. Too slow. Naruto rips from the ground, extending a golden chakra arm towards the red haired demon.
Suddenly, Hiei's sword rockets in, stabbing through the chakra arm ignited in black flames. Hiei, gripping the weapon, slices it down the length of the chakra arm. "Sword of the Darkness Flame!" The chakra arm splits off as Naruto forms another Rasengan.
"Rasengan!" He shouts as he and Hiei clash, a brilliant explosion of gold and black quaking the stage!
The shock shakes Yusuke's stance, dividing his attention. Mistake. The mount of arena rock explodes out as Ichigo charges. Narrowly dodging, Yusuke remains light on his feat, flickering back and forth into a series of After Images.
Ichigo finds himself surrounded by flashing images of Yusuke, all of which charge. Yusuke smirks. Try anticipating this-
The Soul Reaper slashes rapidly, cutting through each image in blinding speed before finally catching Yusuke in a slash. Yusuke's energy tanks the slash before getting thrown away. The boy digs his feet into the ground to grind to a halt.
He raises his hands, charging a golden Spirit Gun, but his eyes widen. Ichigo dips his head as a red Cero orb forms by his horn. "HYAH!" Both shout as they fire their attacks. Red and gold clash, splitting cracks throughout the entire remainder of the arena. Cracks split the arena into different segments as they shift and slide against one another.
Ichigo steadies himself, glancing off to find Naruto fighting Hiei and Kurama back. "Payback time!" Ichigo charges his power through his blade and slashes. "Getsuga Tenshou!"
With Naruto, the Hokage ducks a slash from Hiei, kicking him away. Suddenly, he notices the searing wide blast of black heading his way! He tries to move, but vines sprout from the ground and anchor his feet. Shit! Kurama!
He braces himself with his Nine Tailed Fox avatar, forming it as a shield as Ichigo's attack hits full force! The blast cracks the arena further as Naruto is blown back, scraping along the ground until hitting back first into upturned rock.
The dust clears, Naruto wincing in pain on the ground. As he staggers to his feat, Hiei drops down. The demon plunges his sword through Naruto's gut, earning a choking cry from the ninja. Hiei scowls. "Sorry. I already know one meddlesome fox. I do not need another roaming around."
In the distance, Kurama smirks at his fellow demon, only to notice what Hiei hasn't. Crap!
Hiei's eyes widen. "Huh?"
Naruto, or rather, the Naruto before him, begins to bloat, overflowing with natural energy. Sage chakra. Bloating and deforming, the Shadow Clone sparks... Kurama's Rose Whip wraps Hiei, wrenching him away from the Naruto as the Shadow Clone detonates!
The kamikaze wipes out a corner of the arena, fully destroying the rock and letting it fall into the empty void...
Hiei is pulled back to Kurama, who gasps and rasps a breath from lack of energy. "Just... in time."
The fire demon scowls. "Damn it. I underestimated him."
"As did I. He's full of surprises."
Indeed he is, as Naruto lands on the highest point in the arena, looking down towards Ichigo and Yusuke. The blonde sighs in relief. Overcharging that shadow clone worked well. Now...
He can't fully take out Yusuke while Hiei and Kurama are in play. He can't take out Ichigo while the other three are around. He can't take out Hiei while Kurama is in play.
"HaaaaAAAA!" Naruto roars out as the Nine Tails avatar forms around him. In each of the avatar's hands, a massive Rasenshuriken forms. One glows black red, the other a gold and blue. With a roar, he throws both attacks!
The gold and blue spirals towards Ichigo, and the black and red towards Yusuke. Both of the fighters, too focused on each other, gasp as they realize too late. Both attacks hit in dueling red and blue explosions! The arena continues cracking and shattering at the seams.
Yusuke and Ichigo's screams die out in the blasts as Naruto chooses to refocus on Hiei and Kurama. Hiei is strong, but Naruto can't put him down until Kurama is gone... His focus falls on Kurama. As the second coming of the yellow flash, he blinks in a flash of gold light, speeding out overhead.
Kurama gasps. "Hiei. Move now. Trust me!" Hiei does so, immediately flashing away in a burst of speed. Kurama attunes his energy, closing his eyes. "Just in time."
As Naruto comes down from above... "RASENGAN!"
The attack lands, a pillar of light exploding out as the blast rips through the bottom of the arena... And from the bottom, a single figure drops into the void.. and Kurama appears in the stands with the rest of Team Yu Yu Hakusho.
Kurama is eliminated.
Hiei stares in shock as the blast clears, a massive gaping hole in the arena. Standing on the other side of the pit, Naruto lands. The Hokage breathes heavily, but maintains focus on Hiei. The fire demon seethes in anger, until his eye catches a movement.
Naruto's demon cloak flashes as he relaxes. "Not much power left. But if I can take you out, I just have to let the other two finish their fight." He smirks at Hiei, who scowls back.
"You talk as if you've won. A simple fool who knows nothing of their situation."
"Maybe." The blonde admits. "But I made a promise, and I never go back on my word."
At that, Hiei smirks. "Empty promises always make for the best last words."
Naruto flinches as his legs are bound... Wooden appendages rip from the rocks under them as the roots wrap onto his torso...
The arena quakes, the quick succession of large explosions having successfully split the entire stage into six varying sized floating islands of the arena. However, as they start to float apart, large, MASSIVE roots are revealed, connecting each and every one of the shattered islands.
The largest of the islands, the central one with the central pillar, rips open at the top, the roots sprouting out into a large wooden trunk. The entire stage wraps in vines, with large limbs extending out into the air.
Twin mounds of rocks blast open as Yusuke and Ichigo each leap away from the plant's growing vine limbs. Ichigo lands atop the massive wooden trunk, looking about confused. Yusuke is shocked at the scene, but accepts the view faster. He wipes blood from his most, breathing heavily from Naruto's attack.
The open pit in the arena in front of Naruto closes with growing roots as Naruto is restrained fully by the growing flora. Struggling against it, he looks forward, eyes widening as the growing vines avoid growing onto Hiei.
Said fire demon smirks. "It would seem you fell for our trap. Kurama has spent this entire tournament growing his plants underneath our very feet. The entire while, they absorbed radiant power from our battles to grow."
Hiei's smirk grows as he eyes one of the six connected pieces of the arena, finding the corpse of Titan overgrown. Naruto follows his gaze, eyes widening. His sage senses reach out, finding that the summon from Team Final Fantasy, had been drained entirely of its power to the last drop.
"Along with some assistance from the enemy." Hiei puts all three of his eyes back on Naruto, raising his arm. "He poured his own demonic energy into it as well." Suddenly, his arm sparks and engulfs in black fires. The whipping flaps crackle with underlying sparks of demonic power. "His efforts are not in vain because you and your own fox spirit will be given to the dragon."
Naruto's chakra pulses, only for the vines to hold strong! His chakra mode restrained as well! "Damn it, move!"
Hiei flashes across the pit, landing in front of Naruto. His arm burns as a trio of burning, flaming dragon heads form off his arm. "The times the pain. DRAGON OF THE DARKNESS FLAME!" The torrent of flames burn out as the gold of Naruto's fox cloak... completely disappears.
The entire island Hiei and Naruto had been on explodes in a crackling black eruption! Yusuke and Ichigo shield themselves from the wind as the spirit detective shouts out. "Hiei!"
The blast clears, the corner of the arena completely gone, as Hiei lands on the extending roots hanging off from the main stage. The demon immediately sways upon landing, shaking... He's alone.
Naruto Uzumaki lands in Team Naruto's stands.
… Team Naruto is eliminated.
"Another universe has been eliminated." The voice of the Grand Priest sounds. The ninja all look in horror as he looks on with a content neutrality. "With that loss, may the erasure of their universe be complete."
"BYE!" The first Zeno sounds out. "BYE BYE!" The sound sounds as they together... snap their fingers. Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, the other Kage, Lee, and Shikamaru all disappear.
The Grand Priest looks down upon the remaining fighters. "Only two universes remain. Three fighters in all. The end is nearing."
Yusuke and Ichigo wear matching scowls, glaring at the angel. Yusuke spits out some blood. "High horse bastard." Hiei leaps up, landing beside Yusuke as the two turn towards the tall plant trunk where Ichigo stands. "You look awful tired. You sure you can fight?"
Hiei sways, exhausted bags under his eyes. He grits his teeth as he lets out a heavy breath. "Of course. How dare you assume that I'd keel over after defeating an opponent that foolish." Hiei takes another exhausted breath. "... That being said, you should worry about yourself."
Yusuke begrudgingly nods. His finger sparks with golden energy. "My sacred energy was tapped after canceling this guy's attack and tanking that blonde guy's move as well." The sparking gold then flashes red. "And my demon energy is still tapped from the two fights before that." His energy flashes to blue. "That leaves good ole reliable spirit energy."
Ichigo stares down at the two as his reiatsu sounds out a thick haze of spiritual pressure. The weight in the air shifts as Yusuke and Hiei are each pressured down. Yusuke remains standing tall, meeting Ichigo's cool gaze, but Hiei rasps a breath. "And it seems he still has plenty to go on himself."
"Yeah... Too bad it's just the two of us."
"Three." Hiei corrects. "Kurama may be eliminated, but he's given us a home field advantage." He confidently smirks, despite his exhaustion. "Ever the clever one."
Ichigo's eyes widen as the demonic vines around him shift... and coil to wrap him! The final bout begins as black and blue energy erupts and slashes the vines apart... and Ichigo charges directly at the two! In front of the two, the root vines grow upward, but Ichigo flickers away in split speed. He lands behind, throwing a thrust at Yusuke's back.
Yusuke spins around, timing a punch and striking the blade thrust aside. He counter punches, but Ichigo sweeps the detective's legs out. The vines under their feet grow up to restrain the reaper, but he reverse grips his sword and vaporizes the roots with a downward stab.
Recovering, Yusuke charges and throws powered up punch. From the other side, Hiei throws a kick. Ichigo blocks Yusuke with his sword Zangetsu, redirecting the force into a mount of arena rock as it explodes. His off hand blocks Hiei.
With a growling grunt, Ichigo throws both away. Yusuke is launched through the landscape, but Hiei recovers mid air, landing to a kneeling stop. Ichigo whips around, launching a blue stream of energy along the ground.
Hiei's eyes widen in shock as he leaps into the air to dodge. The blast wipes out another split island of land, removing one of the remaining five land masses. Hiei lands on vines connecting to the next mass.
Clenching his gut in pain, he kicks into a sprint as another wave of blue wipes out the ground behind him. Ichigo shifts his one handed grip to the chain at the end of his sword hilt. The reaper swings the weapon by the chain, spinning and twirling the sword in a circle like a chain sickle!
He drops down, throwing the blade. Hiei ducks down, the thrown blade ripping hairs from his head! The blade digs into the ground behind the fire demon. Ichigo huffs, yanking the chain to pull Zangetsu into Hiei from behind-
Until the roots in the ground grow over and pin Zangetsu in place. The sword is anchored into place. "What?"
Hiei smirks, charging and landing a superman punch at the ginger's jaw. Hiei unloads punches until Ichigo releases the chain to Zangetsu. He deflects two more strikes before knocking Hiei's arm wide to open up. He jabs into the demon's gut, launching Hiei back along the ground.
Grabbing the chain again, he channels energy down to the blade as wrenches it free from the roots. Reeling in, he grasps Zangetsu properly, channeling his spiritual pressure. "Getsuga-"
Yusuke flips overhead and lands, fist charging blue. "Shotgun!"
Ichigo's eyes widen as he cancels his energy and rapidly deflects the dozens of blasts spraying towards him. A blur of slashes deflect the barrage. As he deflects, Yusuke reaches out to Hiei with his off hand. The demon takes it.
"Go!" Yusuke pitches Hiei, throwing forward as both releases. The demon rockets towards Ichigo, who fails to notice as he deflects the last of the Shotgun shots.
With a yell, Hiei lands a flying knee to Ichigo's head! The reaper is launched off his feet as Yusuke sprints round Hiei in a charge. He grabs Ichigo's sword arm, pulling him down into a vicious pair of right hook to the gut!
Ichigo chokes out a gasp, scowling before bringing his head forward, striking Yusuke's forehead with his own! Both men reel back from the crack of their skulls against one another! The detective recovers his footing, shouting with a follow up jab!
Ichigo sees it coming, twisting and grabbing the punch with his off hand. Ichigo swings Yusuke around, tossing him back the way he came. As Yusuke skids along the ground, Hiei slides in the way, catching the human as they both slide back on their feet.
Upon stopping in place, Hiei charges. Yusuke drops, hands coming together in a gun point, blue energy gathering on his index finger. "Spirit Gun!"
However, he doesn't aim at Ichigo, but instead at Hiei! The shot strikes the demon's back... before propelling Hiei forward! The Toguro Combo, indeed. Hiei is launched forward like a projectile, the Spirit Gun his gun powder, closing the distance almost instantly with Ichigo!
Hiei spear tackles into Ichigo's gut, sweeping the ginger off his feet and through the next mound of rock. Soaring over the landscape, Hiei flips the two around, grabbing Ichigo by the legs before whip throwing him into the central pillar, now completely overgrown in roots as a trunk. Ichigo hits into the wall hard, quaking the stage as he's embedded into the side.
The demon lands, stumbling to a kneeling position as his back is scorched from Yusuke's attack. "For all your speed, you really are as direct as a flailing child."
A choked gasp escapes Ichigo as he rips free from the rock and wood. He glares down at Hiei. "You talk a lot of crap for a three eyed midget. I'm tired of it! Getsuga!" He raises his large blade... and swings. "Tenshou!"
The wide wave of black and red roars toward the demon. Hiei raises his arms to block, but Yusuke drops between Hiei and the blast. Gathering his spirit energy, he forms a protective barrier. Ichigo's attack collides with Yusuke's barrier, the clash sparking and struggling between their wills.
Hiei leaps out of the way as Yusuke's barrier gives way. The blast almost overtakes the detective, but he manages to redirect it just enough to roar by him! The black energy tears along the ground, wiping out another connected island mass of the stage, one of the remaining four.
Yusuke drops to his knees, breathing heavily. "Damn it." His energy sparks in his hand. "Only enough juice for one more..." Looking up, he finds that Ichigo is swaying on his feet. "He looks just as bad off. Heh." He lets out a low laugh.
Ichigo rams Zangetsu into the root under his feet, gasping for air. Despite the situation, he grins. "I'll admit. If not for the risk to my world, I'd be having tons of fun right now kicking your ass." The grin sinks to a grimace. "But I can't lose. So, good-" He pauses.
The roots under him slowly wrap and ground around his legs. The massive growth shifts, completely enclosing around the reaper.
Hiei looks to Yusuke and nods. "This is our chance!" The demon speeds forward. "Our last shot!"
Inside the cocoon of vines, Ichigo focuses. "I am done with this! HYAH!" Energy charges from Zangetsu into the vines as they begin to glow white. The white glow envelopes the vines into the roots through the ground as Ichigo's energy erupts! Kurama's system of roots and plants is completely vaporized in a quaking blast!
The remaining two sections of the arena split off and fall away into the abyssal void. Only the central portion of the stage remains whole as Ichigo rips Zangetsu free! Debris rips up from the ground as chunks of rock and wood float upward into the air.
Suddenly, Hiei drops from the side, orange flames engulfing his fist in the last of his power. "Fist of the Mortal Flame!"
Ichigo notices, gripping Zangetsu tightly and swinging to clash with the powered fist. "HA!" The energy coming off his blade sparks against the flames as both attacks ignite in an explosion, cracking the central stage!
From the black, Hiei is launched away. Limbs limp, smoke trailing off his body, he falls over the edge... and to the abyss. As he drops, he grunts out. "Don't... miss..."
Hiei is eliminated... appearing in the stands.
Ichigo stands tall, a rasping breath coming out. Debris still rises from the ground in whipping winds. He turns his head to looks for-
From behind a rising mass of rubble, Yusuke power slides, coming to a stop kneeling directly in front of Ichigo... His hand is raised and glowing blue at the finger, sparking. Ichigo's eyes widen as Yusuke's sparking finger sits just half a foot under his throat.
Their eyes meet. "Looks like the tables have turned." The energy crackles as it expands. "To my side where they'll stay." Ichigo grips Zangetsu to bring around, but he's too open. "SPIRIT GUN!"
The brilliant blue blast erupts from the finger, striking the ginger's upper chest and carrying him from the ground... into the air... out of the arena.
Ichigo Kurosaki is eliminated from the tournament, and he flashes into place in the stands.
Yusuke's arms lower, limp, a long breath coming out. He gasps heavily, struggling to regain breath. Yusuke Urameshi is the sole survivor on the stage.
"Ichigo Kurosaki has been eliminated." States the Grand Priest. "His team has been eliminated and must now face erasure."
"Byeeeee!" The two Zenos shout with their hands clasped in one anothers hands. And in a snap... Team Bleach is flashed away. Only Team Yu Yu Hakusho remains. Yusuke frowns as the twin gods chant excitedly. "That was so much fun!" "Yes, so much! Yusuke is the winner!"
Team Yu Yu Hakusho release sighs of relief as their tension immediately eases. However, Yusuke continues to scowl at the two gods. As they cheer, a golden glow pulls his attention higher. Gigantic, MASSIVE spherical orbs in the sky. Each is colored orange and floats at such a massive scale, it boggles the mind.
As Yusuke's jaw drops, the Grand Priest speaks calmly. "Yusuke Urameshi. You have won this tournament. As promised, you are to be presented the Super Dragon Balls. With them, you may make one wish to your heart's content... The floor is yours."
Yusuke gulps. "Look at the size of those things..." He mutters before tearing his eyes from them. "And you say I can wish for anything? No limits whatsoever?"
The Grand Priest's smile widens. "Of course. There are no limits to these dragon balls."
A minute passes. Yusuke staring at them blankly...
Another minute. His face pulls down, his eyes flickering to the gigantic balls.
A final minute as he finally scowls at the Grand Priest, earning a blank look from the angel. Yusuke raises an accusatory finger at the deity. "I wish for all the universes you destroyed today to be brought back! Exactly as they were." He gauges the Priest's reaction as his glare deepens. "After that, you better stay the HELL out of my universe, as well as your two toddler bitches. You got that?!"
After a pause from the speech, Kuwabara screeches out from the stands. "Urameshi! Don't go making them mad enough to kill us, damn it!"
However, Yusuke pays little mind, maintaining a glare at the angel. A full minute passes before the neutral Grand Priest nods. "Very well. A simple wish."
Tournament End.
Final Winner: Yusuke Urameshi
Naruto vs Ichigo vs Yusuke, Hiei, and Kurama – This battle truly came down to a numbers game. Ichigo was the fastest, Naruto had the most singular hax, while the three Yu Yu characters had the teamwork and overall raw power. Plain and simple. However, it was impossible for the Yu Yu crew to succeed without sacrifices, which would start with Kurama who was most damaged and out of energy to start with. From there, the final victory would require a sacrifice, something Hiei would very willingly do. With Hiei, it is directly stated that Yusuke is the only human he'd willingly die for, so taking the hit for Yusuke to get the win is pretty straight forward.
Now, I wish to discuss how/why each universe was here. As well as each of their advantages and overall chances of victory.
Team Naruto: This tournament started between me and my friend wanting to set a full Naruto universe vs Bleach universe table. After Dragon Ball Super's Tournament of Power, that idea obviously expanded in scope of universes, and limited in scope of size.
This team had both advantages and disadvantages. They had two of the top 5 strongest members of this tournament, but their power between their team members fluctuated the most leading to inconsistency. They had a great deal of variety of moves and hax, but outside of Naruto and Sasuke, it meant little to their overall chances of victory. They had good teamwork, but the variance in team power levels hindered that.
Overall, Team Naruto had a very solid chance of victory, but lost weak links over time.
Team Bleach:As said above, Bleach was the second team in consideration. Comparing directly to Team Naruto, Bleach amped up several advantages, but also increased their disadvantages. They were faster and far more consistently strong, but each member was severely limited in their move set. It's sad that many of Team Bleach had one significant hax that, if countered, they had nothing left to use. The characters themselves often abstained from strategy, save for Uryu and Kisuke. (Again, sorry for messing up and forgetting to write Kisuke and Yoruichi vs Hiei and Kurama! I explained that fight after the fact, but sorry!)
Overall, Bleach had the same chances as Naruto, just more specialized.
Team Fairy Tail:The little team that couldn't... We included Fairy Tail as the closest in feel to One Piece in terms of absurd story with little sense but loving characters. Since we couldn't reliably represent One Piece with our lack of knowledge. However, Fairy Tail legitimately had by far the worst chances in this tournament.
Their speed was relativistic, but NONE of them came remotely close to FTL (Faster Than Light) or even just the speed of light. They were the slowest team in the tournament. Their power capped at continental level, which tied with Power Rangers and beat Samurai Deeper Kyo's power, but was still not overly impressive on its own.
Their only advantages came from two things: hax and teamwork. Problem... Outside the Grand Magic Games arc in Fairy Tail, not a SINGLE team fight in the entire Fairy Tail story was pre planned. ALL team ups in Fairy Tail occurred through happenstance of characters just ending up in the same areas. So, teamwork... completely gone. This is most hurt by impulse actions by characters like Natsu, Gray, and Gajeel.
Even further, exactly like Bleach, each character was HEAVILY specialized, meaning that each of their respective special powers only yielded large advantages depending on perfect match ups against their opponents. If Natsu faced Sasuke and ate his Amaterasu, awesome! We'd have had a fight. Instead, they ran d*** first into the enemy without a story writer conveniently matching them to story filled wins.
Which sucks cause I love Fairy Tail... Sad.
Overall, Fairy Tail would have required the dice rolls for match ups to HEAVILY favor them just for a chance to win.
Team Yu Yu Hakusho: Given how similar Bleach is to Yu Yu Hakusho, my friend and I wanted to put Yu Yu in specifically to see how they stacked up.
Team Yu Yu was, for all intent and purpose, the love child of advantages and disadvantages from Naruto and Bleach. None of them were as fast Naruto or Sasuke, but ALL of this team was in the same realm of power, being planetary. Many of them had pretty blanket hax or broad abilities able to hold up. Those that didn't were simply strong contending fighters.
They had teamwork for the main four, and characters like Yusuke and Hiei had excellent recovery options in their arsenal.
Overall, they had just as good a chance at victory as Naruto or Bleach. The three were neck and neck.
Team Final Fantasy: This team was the first to suffer from same move syndrome. Outside of Noctis and a few well placed mechanics based limit breaks, all ten of these characters were in the same tier of speed, power, and abilities. Teamwork was somewhat solid, but if they face someone able to beat one of them, then none of them can do any better.
There are a number of power levels people place Final Fantasy. Some people place them at simply super human and super sonic since nearly every game has them face simple soldiers with machine guns. Other people place them at galactic proportions given the absolutely insane universe altering plot point things that happen.
For this tournament, my friend and I used what is essentially the middle ground. One of Cloud's Omnislash feats puts him at/slightly above the speed of light, and all other members of the team scale to Cloud seeing as Dissidia is canon. Cloud survived a meteor impact in FFVII, Tidus survived a gravity well making him Moon level in FFX, Squall survived reality warping and a summon that is a literally planetoid in FFVIII.
Simply put, the most favorable place for Final Fantasy in our eyes is capping at light speed and being continental to moon level.
Overall, a very solid team, but you beat one, you beat all of them unless you have the super ring of bull**** from Final Fantasy XV.
Team Samurai Deeper Kyo: The ultimate wrench thrown into things. These guys were on par in speed with the exception of Kyo and Kyoshiro who cranked that to 11, and there was a large amount of hax for each and every member of the team, save Bontenmaru.
An excellent team to put into this tournament, but their biggest downside was a lacking of raw power. Outside of hax based skills, none of these characters exceeded island level, making them the weakest team in that stat. However, this is offset by Kyo himself surpassing light speed several dozen times over, making him the fastest competitor, barring only Force Oneness Luke.
Overall, less chance of victory due to a reliance on Kyo and lacking of raw power, but still good chances.
Team Star Wars: Much like Final Fantasy, this team suffers from sameness. If you beat Jaina Solo, then there is no way in hell Kyp Durron is doing any better. However, unlike the Final Fantasy team being full of protagonists who all had fairly equal footing in a video game, there are several levels of power between each of them.
Just for a point of comparison, Obi-wan has a novel feat putting him at Light speed. Characters in the extended universe like Revan and Starkiller each have planetary feats that put them on par with Naruto and Sasuke. Now, sure, not even Jaina or Kyle were on Revan and Starkiller's level, but you see the point. The Jedi were all ranging from high relativistic speeds to straight up beyond light speed, with powers ranging from country level to continental level to planetary level.
Then there was Luke who could crush his entire team by himself. No, that is not exaggeration. He's faster than Ichigo, and at base is twice as strong as Naruto or Sasuke. Combine that with the Jedi's very wide range of abilities and hax, well.
Suffice to say, Star Wars had the highest chance of victory in this tournament, unless the initial dice rolls failed them... which in a roundabout way is exactly what happened because of the next team...
Team Power Rangers: I know. Many of you likely looked at this story, saw Power Rangers, and went 'pft? Power Rangers? No way. That's dumb.' Exaggeration of comments aside, I KNOW that's been a reaction. Just hear me out on them, though. They... they HAD IT! They were so ready to take this tournament by storm.
To put it into perspective, there were three, THREE characters out of their 70 opponents that they had no answer to. ALL they had to do was gangbuster beat down their enemies with numbers while the problem players deal with one another. ALL they needed was to not fight any of those three opponents with the dice rolls.… and they fought two of the three in Round 1... The odds of this are... simply staggering.
Ugh... Power Rangers have a power level of being continental individually and moon level at least as a team of five. They also all mostly scale to one another in terms of speed, with all of them having up to light speed reactions or movements. Yes, they had same move syndrome to the highest degree of the tournament, but they also had the highest level of teamwork.
Speaking of those three enemies? They had no answer to Aizen's illusions. They had no answer to Kyo's speed advantage. They had no answer to Luke's everything. Had one of the teams of five fought someone like Naruto, who would only be around twice as fast as them, that would have been a VERY hard fought victory on Naruto's part due to the numbers gang. Ichigo, Sasuke, none of them would have fared much better.
They had such good chances... until the dice formed the metaphysical schlong to ram into all ten of their anuses. (I will not apologize for that visual. I'm STILL salty that they went out that fast years later after my friend and I did this)
Now, an update to character stats.
Since doing this tournament, there has been new material canon to some of these universes that could retroactively change parts of this tournament. Maybe even change the outcome. Here are those details.
Naruto and Sasuke were made stronger in Boruto, Naruto even getting a new chakra mode. This changes nothing, however, since it is not enough to overcome the same characters that cripple Naruto in the late game of this tournament. In short, Naruto beats the same people, and gets crippled by Luke still.
There are Power Ranger characters that are universal level in power... None of which were used in this tournament. Doesn't affect anything since the ranger power levels will remain where they are more consistently.
Fairy Tail is getting new material, but as of right now, nothing has raised them enough to significantly change this tournament in any way.
Finally, Bleach has released several novels since my friend and I did this tournament. I write this tournament based on how my friend and I rationalized these fights going. However, there is one thing that is outdated in this tournament... Kenpachi Zaraki.
In the latest Bleach novels, Kenpachi now scales in speed and power to Sosuke Aizen, making him in his Bankai both stronger and greatly faster than Darth Krayt, who in this tournament defeated Kenpachi in round 1... But I still stand by the result.
I repeat. I stand by the result that Kenpachi loses to Darth Krayt despite the large power increase.
The reason for this is that the power difference changes how Kenpachi will react to fighting Krayt. In this tournament, Kenpachi went Bankai because he had no way of winning without it. Now, he's strong and fast enough to maintain a fight with Krayt with only his shikai... and if any of you know Kenpachi's character, you know that he will intentionally risk death if it means for a more fitting fight.
So, if you must request an update to how Kenpachi loses to Krayt, it is now because Kenpachi will refuse to Bankai and will still end up getting launched from the stage while having in the fight in Shikai which is still slower than Krayt. All because he doesn't have to die to lose. And yes, that is entirely in character for Kenpachi. Depressingly so.
