Chapter 9: Hit The Ground

Thomas sits in the interrogation room as Cross slams down a file on the table. "What the hell were doing?! Stealing the devil's eye and trying to outrun a police officer?! I've had better outruns than what you tried to pull!" Cross shouted as he crossed his arms while looking at Thomas. Thomas just looked down at the file before looking back at Cross. "Look, if you knew my situation then..." Thomas tried to say but was cut off by Cross. "No! You are a criminal and a hotshot who thinks he's bad and fast!" Cross shouted as he slammed his hands on the table.

"Really? Bad and fast huh? What's even in this file?" Thomas said before taking the file and taking a look at it. "Tyler Morgan? Do you think I'm mixed up with my cousin? That's cute," Thomas said with a chuckle as he places the table on the table. "Well, are you?" Cross asked. Thomas laughed before looking at Cross. "Hell no! I haven't seen him since I seven! I'm doing what I'm doing because my dad was kidnapped by Jessica Kidman," Thomas said now disappointed of the fact he hasn't gotten his father back and now has last Dusty.

"Look kid, I am NOT playing your..." Cross paused.

"Wait, did you just say Jessica Kidman?" He asked.

"Yes, why does it matter to you?" Thomas asked.

"We've been after her for the past 4 years and she's always been slipping from custody," Cross explained.

"Oh," Thomas said.

"Tell you what kid, I'll release you and your furry friends and drop all charges against you, if..." Cross said.

"If what?" Thomas asked.

"If you work undercover for me." Cross said

.Thomas leaned forward with his hands together. "If this helps my dad. Then I'm in," Thomas said. Cross smiled at this, "then we have a deal," Cross replied as he shook Thomas's hand. After half an hour of waiting on getting released from the police station. "Kodi," Thomas said as the three of them walked out of the station. Kodi didn't answer Thomas he just walked away. "Kodi!" Thomas called again. Kodi didn't answer or look at Thomas.

"Kodi, talk to me," Thomas said as he walked up to Kodi. Berry also followed but stayed a good distance from Thomas and Kodi. "Kodi!" Thomas shouted as he pulled on his collar. Kodi growled and threatened to bite Thomas. "Kodi! What the hell?" Thomas said as he jumped back from Kodi. "It's your fault that Dusty is trouble!" Kodi barked. "Hey, I said I would get her back!" Thomas shot back. "No! You've done enough! Now it's my turn to fix your mess like always!" Kodi growled. Thomas tried to speak up but was cut off by Kodi. "Just don't Thomas I'm on my own," Kodi said before walking away.

"Great, just great," Thomas said as he Berry jumped on Thomas's shoulder. Suddenly Thomas's phone when off, it was a text message. "What does it say?" Berry asked. "Meet at the docks we need to talk -Ashlind" Thomas read the message out loud. "Alright let's go," Thomas said as he walked off to the skyline that was now out of the impound. "What about Kodi?" Berry asked. "He can handle himself," Thomas said while continuing walking.

Meanwhile, Drew pulled his Mustang into an empty parking lot and stopped the engine.

"W-What are we doing here?" Dusty asked Drew shakily.

Drew groaned.

"Shut up!" Drew snapped.

Just then a Porsche Panamera pulled to the side of Drew's Mustang.

The driver side window rolled down revealing a black woman presumably 40 or 50 years old, it was the Broker, Drew's shadowy employer.

"The Police scanner was blowing up, what happened down there, Thibodaux?" The Broker asked.

"Thomas and I had a brawl over that diamond, long story short the cops were everywhere, and I'm lucky that I got out of there in one piece," Drew replied.

"As for the diamond?" The Broker asked

"Thomas and his furry friends were arrested by Cross, I don't think we'll be getting that diamond anytime soon," Drew replied.

"Damn it, Thibodaux, we needed that diamond!" Broker shouted. "I know, I know," Drew said as he sat back in his seat. Broker saw some movement in the back of the car. "Who do you have in there?" Broker asked trying to see who was in the backseat. Drew sighed before looking back at the Broker. "I have one of Thomas's friends, I think Kodi's mate," Drew explained. "Good, keep her with you and made we can use this to our advantage," Broker said.

"So what do we do now?" Drew asked. "Take Thomas's little friend back to you apartment and wait for my call to move on with our mission," Broker said before rolling up her window and driving away. Drew sighed before rolling up his window and driving away. Dusty felt nervous to talk or move but she got the courage to speak up. "Why are you doing this?" Dusty asked.

Drew sighed.

"You know Jessica Kidman?" Drew asked.

"Yes," Dusty replied.

"I used to be part of her crew, and was one of her best drivers, but one day I found out what she was planning on doing to the city, and I couldn't let her prevail," Drew explained.

"What does she plan to do in the city?" Dusty asked.

"She wants to control it, the street racing scene, the police department, everything," Drew replied.

"Why?" Dusty asked.

"I don't know," Drew replied.

Drew drives into a condo parking space and turned off the car. Drew turned and looked at Dusty. "I'm not going to hurt you if you're worried about that," Drew said softly. "Then... what are you going to do with me?" Dusty asked now feeling Comfortable talking to Drew. Drew scratched the back of his neck before answering. "Well my next guess is to wait for Broker to tell me what's next," Drew answered. Dusty lowered her head. "So you are not going to hurt my mate and my friends?" Dusty asked.

Drew shook his head. "No my only intentions are to stop Kidman," Drew said looking forward in his seat. Dusty nodding hoping to trust Drew, he reminded her about Thomas when they first met on searching for her when he was dealing with the stone and Charlie. "Come on I'm sure your hungry," Drew said as he opened the car door and got out. Dusty hesitated at first before leaving the car and went with Drew.

Meanwhile, Kodi arrived at Fagin's house barge.

"Hey, Dodger you there?" Kodi called.

No response.

"Dodger?" Kodi asked again.

Again no response.

Kodi was about to walk down the steps when Dodger came up the steps.

"Oh hey Kodi, what a pleasant surprise," Dodger said.

"So what brings you here?" He then asked.

"Dodger I need a favor," Kodi said.

"Shoot," Dodger said.

"I need you to..." Kodi began to say but was cut off by the sound of someone else walking up the steps.

Several seconds later a female cocker spaniel wearing a blue-collar walked up the steps.

"Dodger who are you talking to?" she asked.

"Uh Dodger whose this?" Kodi asked.

Dodger chuckled nervously.

"Kodi this is Princess, she's my girlfriend," Dodger said.

Kodi smiled a bit, "nice to meet you, Princess," Kodi said Princess smiled back at Kodi. "Nice to meet you too Kodi," Princess said still with her smile. "Um... Dodger can I talk to you for a second," Kodi asked. Dodger nodded as he looked to Princess. "I'll be in a minute, just make yourself at home," Dodger said with a smile. Princess nodded as she went inside Dodger's home. Dodger then looked at Kodi. "So what's up?" Dodger asked as he sat down. Kodi let out a sigh before answering.

"I lost Dusty when we tried to get the devil's eye," Kodi said with his head down. Dodgers' eyes widen. "What happened?" Dodger asked. Kodi let out another sigh before answering again. "There was this guy named Drew who took her and I need to find her and I need your help to do so," Kodi answered. "What happened to Thomas?" Dodger asked. "There was a problem with that, but it's not important," Kodi said Dodger nodded. "Alright I'll help you," Dodger said with a smile.

"So what's your plan on rescuing Dusty?" Dodger asked Kodi.

"Well the guy who took Dusty drives a black Ford Mustang, so all we have to do is wait for him to show his face again and we'll beat that guy's ass and save Dusty," Kodi replied.

"Aren't you forgetting the part where we drive off into the sunset in Thomas's Skyline?" Dodger asked sarcastically.

Kodi narrowed his eyes at Dodger when he said the last name he wanted to hear.

"Don't even mention Thomas to me," Kodi growled.

Dodger was a little surprised by this. "Are you mad at him?" Dodger asked. Kodi growled again, "of course I am! He let Dusty get captured!" Kodi snarled. "Oh," Dodger said sitting down. "But maybe we should consider Thomas's help?" Dodger insisted. Kodi growled again. "No we do this on our own without him," Kodi demanded. "Alright boss whatever you say," Dodger said scratching his left ear.

(Meanwhile)

Thomas and Berry drove up to the dock and parked. They both see Ashlind by her car. "Are you sure about this?" Berry asked looking at Thomas. "Nope," Thomas said getting his seatbelt off. "Shouldn't we get Kodi to help us?" Berry asked nervously. Thomas huffed, "no that jerk is on his own I said I was sorry and was going to get Dusty back for him," Thomas said as he opened his car door. Berry sighed as he jumps on Thomas's back and leaves the skyline with him.

Thomas and Berry walk up to Ashlind who was doing something on her phone. "I see you failed to get the diamond," Ashlind said crossing her arms. Thomas was surprised by this. "How did you?.." Thomas started but Ashlind finished for him. "We have eyes and ears everywhere. Where's your dog?" Ashlind asked.

"If you're talking about Kodi well he's not with me, but if you're talking about Dusty well I don't know how to break it to you but she was kidnapped when the whole thing went sideways!" Thomas snarled.

Ashlind covered her face with her palm

"I gave you one job Thomas, ONE FUCKING JOB AND YOU SCREWED IT UP!" Ashlind shouted.

"Hey, I would have gotten away with the diamond if that guy Drew hadn't shown up!" Thomas growled.

"I've just had it with you and your..."

Ashlind paused.

"What? you know who took Dusty?" Thomas asked strongly. "I... uh," Ashlind stumbled on her words. "Tell me! Do you know who took Dusty!" Thomas shouted. "I do, but he wouldn't hurt her," Ashlind confessed. "Damn it Ashlind! That's my family right there! Where can I find this prick!" Thomas shouted. "He's not a prick, he's a friend, I think," Ashlind said. Thomas's eyes grew wide. "You think?!" Thomas shouted. "Um... guys" Berry spoke up.

"What at least your dog is safe!" Ashlind shouted. "Safe! She was kidnapped!" Thomas shouted back. "Guys," Berry said seeing a red dot on Ashlind's chest. "Whatever at least I don't have to worry about it!" Ashlind shot back. "HIT THE GROUND!" Berry shouted as he jumped at Ashlind knocking her down to the ground. A gunshot was fired from afar missing Ashlind. Thomas himself hid from the gunshots hoping not to get hit. "Haha haha you can run but you can hide!" Jedediah said from a faraway place.
