Chapter 18: The Things We Do For Love
Tucker, Jazz and Sam had just left to give Star and Danny some privacy.
And both were unsure what to say.
"So..."Star said, feeling awkward.
"So ..."Danny said, not sure what to say now.
Star sighed.
"None of the magazines ever talk about something like this..."The blonde thought frustrated.
Still, she wanted to try.
She pointed to the couch.
"Why don't we sit down?..." Star suggested.
He said nothing but nodded.
Danny walked over to the couch, sitting down and looking down at his hands. Star sighed as she walked over there, sitting across from Danny. The two just sat in awkward silence Star wasn't sure who was going to talk first.
"Guess I'll start..."She thought.
She took a breath.
"Danny-boo..."Star said out of habit, only to regret it when the ghost boy boy back away from that nickname.
Star sighed, realizing it was not a good idea to call him and restarted.
"Danny, I know things are bad between us..."She said.
"They are?..." Danny asked, not remembering their fight.
"Yeah... we kind of... had a fight before you lost your memory..."She said.
"We did?..." Danny asked, his words aggravating the not-as-of-now-girlfriend.
"We did and...I dunno, maybe that's why you're more stubborn with me, part of you must remember that..." Star suggested.
"I don't know. Maybe, but I don't think I'd remember that..." Danny said.
"Why would you think that?..." She asked.
"I mean, I think that I wouldn't really remember you if we had a fight..."He said
"You didn't even remember your name earlier..."Star said in a deadpan way.
Danny realized her point.
"Maybe, but now I remember it, my parents are named Jack and Maddie Fenton and that I like bowling..." Danny said.
"All true... and you're a great bowler." Star said, since it is true
"Thanks..." He said rubbing his arm in embarrassment. Though he wanted to know how true that was.
"I also remember that I'm a C student..."He said.
"Still true..."Star said, feeling frustrated again.
Looks like he was on the road to recovery in all but one place: His love life, especially the part where she was in it.
The place Star wanted him to get to now.
Nothing was hurting her more than the fact that was not being remembered. She had been upset earlier when she thought he forgot their quarter-versary but this is much worse. Heck, not even the time she and Manson got into a physical fight while they were lost together hurt as much. Sure, she got some bruises from that but this hurts more.
This was emotional, which can sometimes hurt worse than physical pain, especially now since it came from Danny.
"We have to do something..." The girl thought in desperation.
But what could she do that would jog his memory? A kiss? That was only in Hollywood, and those movies never had something realistic.
There had to be a way to handle things and get him back.
The girl needed something with more impact. A something that would penetrate the thick skull of a teenage boy and cause enough gears to turn and remember her.
But what? She didn't know yet.
"Danny, you have to believe me..."Star said, trying to convince her stubborn boyfriend of the truth..
Danny only looked at her blankly before he spoke.
"The last girl who said that wanted me as her trophy husband..." The ghost boy said in a flat way .
Star heard this and sighed.
"That brat.."She thought, even more frustrated..."But I'm not Colette ..."Star said
Danny stared at her and softened a bit..
"Well, you are nicer then I remember..."He said.
Star got a little more hopeful at that.
"Perfect..."She thought.
"But Colette was faking it..."Danny admitted and Star groaned.
"I'll manhandle that brat and leave her too terrified to get out of bed..." She thought but revenge will come later.
"I'm not faking it..."She said.
"I don't know for sure..."Danny said, while his 'girlfriend' giving him a weird look..."I keep tryiing to remember the stuff you say but its all a blank when I try to remember..."He explained.
Star sighed in exasperation and Danny looked innocent.
"I'm not trying to be a jerk, just being honest... I thought honest was a good thing, at least that's something I can remember..."He added.
Star's eye twitched now.
"Seriously!?..." She said as her patience was growing thin in the matter.
"How is it you remember everything but the fact that we're a couple?..."Star said, sounding upset.
"Couple of what?..."Danny asked.
Star was getting mad again and losing her already thinning patience.
"People who are dating!..."She yelled now. She regretted it when Danny looked taken back.
"I am sorry I yelled..."She said quickly.
Being angry isn't going to help matters here. He already compared her to her evil step sister, she did not need to give him more of a reason not to trust her.
"It's okay... but..."He said unsurely.
"But... what?...".She asked.
Danny didn't know what to say. He wasn't trying to hurt her feelings but that's what he was doing..
"Are you sure that we were dating? I mean, sometimes people read a little more into things than they should, right?..."He said as Star sighed.
"It's not like that..." Star tried telling Danny but he looked to her quizzically.
"Believe me, it's not like that..." She insisted.
He only blinked.
"Really?..."He asked as he was still having trouble believing the idea they were dating.
Yes, she is beautiful, even better looking than Colette. Her smile alone made her ten times more beautiful then Colette's. And the thing is, he wasn't trying to be rude, but wasn't sure if things were like that after Colette. His guard had to be up.
Star sighed.
"Yeah. Wait, how do you even know about the idea of reading more into things?..." Star asked.
Danny didn't look sure. He wasn't so sure how he remembered that. After pondering, he shrugged.
"Basic instinct?..." The boy answered.
"Unbelievable..." Star muttered under her breath. Her left eye twitched for a moment.
She stared at Danny, trying to maintain her composure.
It was troubling to her.
What was with those nanobots and her boyfriends head?!
He knows some bit of wisdom but he couldn't remember who his girlfriend was?!
Unbelievable!
"Happy quarterverserary to me..." Star thought sadly as she put her head on her hands.
Despite amnesia, he seemed to recognize that answer didn't make her happy.
"I mean... I'm not even sure why I'd remember something like that but... here we are, I guess..." Danny said.
"I... guess..." Star said.
She wasn't sure how to explain that either but she knew what she had to do but it was her best shot.
She took a breath as she tried to steady herself as she spoke to him again.
"Look I know things are confusing. I know Colette got into your head and made you not so trusting of girl but we are together..." Star pleaded, wanting him to remember her.
Danny looked unsure.
"Really?..."He asked and she nodded.
He stared at the doe eyed girl. He could tell of her sadness and honesty, but—
"I'm sorry. There's nothing but the memories of you being mean to me and my friends..."He said.
Danny gave the girl a sad look. He was honest, though that didn't mean it didn't hurt.
"I am telling you the truth, Danny..."Star said.
She looked him in the eye as she said that, but she failed to see any real recognition in them. Danny looked at her, his beautiful blue eyes looking at her,
"I'm sorry Es- Star..." Danny corrected, looking her in the eye..."But I don't remember you that way..."He said and Star felt like she'd just got punched in the chest.
"That hurt a lot..." She thought.
It was almost like he didn't want to remember their time together Perhaps he doesn't, after their fight. No, she shook that awful thought out of her mind. He didn't even remember that fight. Like Jazz said, he didn't remember much outside of her. He didn't remember much of anything outside of what Jazz showed him with family videos and pictures.
Still, Star tried to reach out to him once more.
"Danny, we're together for three months..and I call you Danny-Boo because it's my pet name for you..."Star said in a desperate voice.
He seemed somewhat saddened by her reaction, but blinked and shook his head. Like he wanted to answer her but didn't know how.
He was just so confused!
"Then why do I just remember you being mean to me?..."Danny said, still looking confused.
She flinched and felt a wave of guilt consume her.
"I was mean..." Star admitted, tears starting to form in her eyes..."I was a big jerk but that was a long time ago..."She confessed.
They have been through so much together these last few months. Being stranded on the island, being trapped in the school over night, almost getting sunk at the water park, that "bonding" dinner with her mother and Star's brief time as a superhero when they swapped his powers.
It was the strangest time of her life. It was also the best time of her life too. She wouldn't trade a second of it for anything. It changed her for the better. It made her who she is now. She does not want to lose it.
"We went through so much together, you have to believe me..."She said.
Star gently placed her hand on top of his and this time, Danny didn't pull away or phase away from her.
"We... have?..."Danny asked.
The blonde girl nodded.
"Yes, we have. You just don't remember..." She said.
"Like?..." He asked.
Star began to tell him of the last three months of their life together. From the Island, up to the dinner disaster they had and so much more. She didn't mention Danielle since he was still in a fragile state and might not react well to learning of a clone yet but knew he'd love to learn about her all over again.
She'll save that for later. Once she was done, she looked at him, hoping something sunk in.
"Come on Danny, fight this! You are the strongest, bravest guy I know. You can't let yourself get beaten by a bunch of junk that Vlad, made fight it..." Star pleaded internally, reaching out she held Danny's hands.
Thankfully, he still didn't phase away from her.
That was progress, right?
"Please, you have to believe me..."Star said sincerely.
Danny held her hand for a moment before he let go. He wasn't sure what was true and what wasn't anymore.
"I... I wanna believe you, but I I just don't know if I can. And I don't why..."He admitted.
Danny wanted to know what was real and what wasn't. Including about her. It was stressful for him. He just wanted things to make sense again.
Star sighed, but nodded.
"Of course..." She said sadly, choking back a sob and pulled back.
Danny frowned,he didn't mean to make her cry. He just didn't know what to do. Still, he felt guilty and at least tried to make her stop..
"Star, I'm sorry..."He said as he put a hand on her shoulder..."I'm not trying to hurt your feelings..." He added.
Star sighed.
"I know..."She said, she managed to stop and nod. She gathered her composure.
"It's okay. I'll be okay..."She said.
Wiping her tears Star put her hands on her legs determined.
"Just so you know, I'm not giving up on you..." She said determined, making Danny surprised.
"Huh?..."He said.
"I said that I'm not giving up on you. We'll figure something out..." She said.
"How?..." He asked.
"Well... I'll find something to help you remember...I'll be right back..."Star said as she got up, she needed a moment to herself.
Danny blinked and frowned.
"She's dedicated..."He thought.
Still, he couldn't help but admire her somewhat.
'Well, she's better then Colette at least..."Danny thought as he looked at Star in a whole new light.
It was obvious that Colette didn't care about him, she just want to control him and treat him like a possession. Like he was some kind of trophy or something.
"Wonder what I did to get on her radar. if I knew, I'd make sure to never do that again..."He thought while he tried to remember.
So far, nothing..
Perhaps that part is worth forgetting
With Star
The blonde felt down.
She turned around and walked away, pondering to herself.
"This is so not fair. It's like something is blocking the love parts of his brain..."She grumbled, resisting the urge to yank her hair out.
Star looked frustrated, he didn't remember her. At least not as his loving girlfriend. He didn't know much she changed. He didn't know how much she loved him.
She didn't know what to do.
She wanted to scream and punch something but that would only scare Danny and make things worse. But there was no way she was going to give up on her man. She needed something to jump start his memories.
But what? How?
The fact that he at least remembers some bits and pieces suggests this can work, even if they're not bits and pieces that put her in a positive light.
Still, maybe there is a chance to get through to him...
But how?
There has to be something that can remind him of the kind of bond they have together.
"I've gotta do something to get him to remember me as his loving girlfriend and not that snobby A-Lister. But how do I get through the thick head of a fourteen-year-old boy?..."Star said, as she tried to think of a way to get him to remember their love.
Suddenly, an idea came to her mind, but it won't be easy.
She was going to have to do something to get through the will of the most stubborn boy to ever live in Amity Park.
"Well... he IS a teenage boy...darn it.." She thought.
She knew what she had to do but this was going to be such a pain. At the very least, it will at least get his attention. But there was always the possibility something worse could happen.
Much, much worse.
But she took a breath and knew what she had to do but there was no guarantee it would work.
Not to mention, they have little time left. But if it worked, the results would be worth it.
"This was going to be so much worse then anything I dealt with when I was Starlight Spirit, isn't it?..."She thought.
The things she did for love.
A Few Minutes Later
While Star was gone, Danny walked around the OP center, being careful not to press any buttons since he didn't want to get goop on him again. That was not something he wanted to repeat
As he looked around, he had flashes flowing through his head. He recalled a bunch of teens in here with orange jumpsuits. He recalled Sam and Tucker being in here with him with what looked like an inflatable man. He recalled being in here once, albeit for some reason he felt he was smaller than he really was.
It seemed like he had a few strange adventures as this superhero. Danny got the feeling he'd understand more when he got his full memory back.
"I need to remember who I trust and love..."He thought.
The ghost boy sighed. He didn't remember his entire life but he did know that he belonged here.
Far, far away from Colette.
Danny couldn't believe he had fallen for her scheme. He can't believe he let himself be fooled by a pretty face. Well, that is not going to happen again. He was sure of that.
"Danny..." Star said, getting the halfa's attention.
He pushed that girl out of his head as he heard Star approach him.
"Yes?..." He asked.
Danny turned briefly stunned by what he saw. Star was leaning against the door in a two piece cheerleading outfit. One that showed her bare legs and arms.
It was vaguely familiar to him. She had a flirty look on her face as she crossed her arms.
"What the..."Danny's face turned bright red now.
The way he was staring was at least getting his attention. Star felt silly doing this but...
"I need to get you back, Danny-Boo... I just hope my idea works..." She thought.
She steeled herself, ready to try when she can.
"Hey there..." She said flirtatiously, making Danny feel like his mouth went dry.
She had read somewhere that hormones can effect memories, likely help fill in the gaps. Finding her attractive may help Danny.
"Soon, he'll remember he likes more than just my looks..."She thought.
The blonde girl walked to him in a sauntering sort of way, usibg her natural appeal for all its worth, even if she felt ridiculous doing this.
Just because she was a cheerleader, didn't mean she likes flaunting herself like this.
She wasn't a flirty show off like Paulina but she is desperate now. And desperate times called for desperate measures.
"Okay, Star. Show time..."She thought as she sent a suggestive smile to the ghost boy as she got closer..
The ghost boy, meanwhile , couldn't take his eyes off her. The teenaged boy's brain short circuiting and on fire after seeing the beautiful blonde in a cheerleading uniform
"Star, you look, uh...I mean...what are you doing?..." Danny said, still blushing while Star walked over to him
"Oh, I was just thinking about practicing my cheerleading...here...with you..."She said as she twirled her hair a bit.
"Cheerleading...?" Danny said with a grin and a blush. There was no denying he did not like this.
She saw a small smile on his face.
Star decided to kick it up a notch by smiling in an almost seductive manner..
"So... I guess I forgot to mention... I'm a cheerleader..."She said in a coy way.
Danny blushed more.
"Cool..." He said.
His turning red brought a smile to her face.
"Well, at least he's a bit more relaxed around me..." She thought.
It was something. At this point, ANY step forward was good in her book
Danny, however, wasn't able to think of anything but what he was looking at.
Star noticed and kept up her flirtations.
"You like what you see, Danny Boo..." Star said in a fliratious way.
Danny was tongue tied now.
"Uh, Star... ..."He said, hormone riddled as the blonde fluttered her eye lashes at him.
Star giggled.
"Yes Danny boo..." She asked seductively
The ghost boy flinched. It did not change the fact his eyes were glued to her at the moment.
"Uh, Star...what are you doing?..."Danny asked, feeling slightly nervous in a good way.
"I hope you don't mind me practicing..." She said in a fliratious way. "It's mainly jumps, flips, and pom-poms..."
Danny gulped loudly, his eyes locked on the girl.
"Star, really? What is this about?.."He asked.
"Oh, just trying to see if this reminds you of anything you happen to enjoy..."Star explained, but she did not stop flexing in front of him.
The ghost boy was silent, taking in her answer. While he was suspect of her actions, his hormones overruled any other thoughts.
Danny didn't take his eyes off of Star even as she landed in a split looking at him with a smile and wink.
"So, anything? Is this ringing any bells?" ..."She said, still being flirty.
Danny gulped and tried to look away.
"There's...something..."He said.
Star continued her actions.
"Something good I hope..."Star said
As she placed her hands on her hips, Danny saw this.
Staring at her bare midriff too long, Danny turned his face away.
"Sorry! SORRY!..."He went.
The blonde girl giggled, before sending him a sweet look
"It's ok if you watch...I don't mind..."Star said
Danny felt like something jumped him from behind. At first, he glanced back to see nothing, only for it to happen again when he looked at Star. He puts a hand at his chest to feel a beat. It was confusing.
Unlike when Colette flirted with him, Danny felt something different here. Something much more pleasant to say the least.
Star noticed her amnesiac boyfriend staring. She smiled as her plan went accordingly.
"So, remembering anything?..."Star said coyly.
"I remember liking cheerleaders..." The boy replied, still staring as she continued to flex.
He remembered that for sure. He remembered being at more sports games recently, despite that he wasn't a sportsman as far as he knew.
Then again, maybe he had a different reason..
Star was worried. Still, he hasn't expressed dislike towards her so far.
This may suggest her plan was working. That there Is some progress!
Star smiled.
The fact that he didn't push her away yet was good news to the blonde girl who felt hopeful now as he kept his eyes on her.
"You know Danny, you're really cute when you blush.."Star said as she stepped closer..
"Uh thanks Star..."Danny said, still blushing.
His girlfriend smiled more.
She started with basic poses, nothing serious, but the boy watched with a smile. Star added some advanced cheers, but kept to simple ones to entice the boy. After all, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and her moves were sweet. But nothing like the innocent and happy look on the boy's face.
'It's working..."Star thought, thrilled her plan was working
She walked closer to him and added some flair to her step. Star wanted to squeal but she didn't want to scare him off.
The girl was at the final push of her plan and needed the boy's undivided attention.
"His eyes are on me... maybe it's time to try..."She thought .
She thought maybe sharing something they both love would work.
She decided to give it a go.
"So... wanna... kiss?..." She asked.
"W-What?..." He asked.
"We do it all the time. We hold hands, make out, go on walks, make out, enjoy small talk and, if possible, make out..."Star listed with her fingers.
"You said make out three times..."Danny pointed out.
"I like that part a lot..."She admitted.
Danny rose one eyebrow.
"She... likes that part a lot?..."He thought with some mild interest.
He couldn't help but find some level of fascination that she likes doing that with him.
"We do this a lot?..."He thought.
He actually felt flattered.
He tries to remember kissing her, but can't.
He still couldn't remember her. He wanted to but he just didn't.
Due to his silence and blush forming on his face. Star, misreading the signals, took it as a yes. She got in close to Danny but he stepped away, making Star frown.
"Danny?..." She asked, sounding hurt again
"I'm sorry, Star...but no..."He told her.
Star frowned and felt deflated but nodded.
"Okay..."She said.
She didn't want him to think she was seducing him or trying to manipulate him like Colette tried to do. She was trying to help him remember how much they love to kiss..
"It was worth a shot..."She thought.
She saw the blush on his face not leaving him as he stared at her waist. Once he realized she saw that, he looked away.
"Sorry!..." He went.
That brought a small smile to her face.
"At least he's still attracted to me...that's something..."She thought, before answering him.
"I'm your girlfriend, it's okay to stare..." She assured him.
Danny kept his eyes away even as his face was still red.
"If you say so..."He said.
She sighed.
"At least he's still someone who doesn't care only about looks..."Star thought.
Perhaps a part of the boy she loves is still in there.
"I should never have made such a big deal about quarterversaries..."She thought as she rubbed her eyes in frustration at what she did.
If she had been more patient or talked to Danny instead of expecting him to sweep her off her feet, this might have been avoided.
He tried so hard in keeping those nanobots away from Skulker and Vlad, and when it blew up in his face, then Star comes and blows up in his face as well.
She felt so stupid right now for that.
''Some girlfriend I am..." She thought before snapping herself out of it.
She put that aside when she the time on the wall clock..
Realizing that they have been alone for a while and that little progress was made, Star realized that it was probably best to go find the others.
"Uh, we should go down to the others..." Star said.
Danny nodded, a little calmer now.
"Okay..."He said
"At least, she's not trying to change me like Colette did.."Danny thought.
Star was at least relieved that he was he was okay around her.
It was something.
"Let's head downstairs... maybe... maybe if I tell you about stuff like Jazz did, it'll jump start your memories..." She said.
Danny thought then shrugged.
"I guess that could work..."He said.
"Well, he's starting to trust me..."She thought.
That's something...
Right?

Phantom Fan 21: Yes, I knew. I am glad that they fixed that bug.
Kilaknux: Thank you :)
Invader Johnny: Oh boy, indeed.
Danifan3000: The reason mostly is that in that situation, Danny only forgot about his ghost lifestyle, not his whole lifestyle. Here, the nanobots had taken ALL of his memories and he is still trying to relearn what is what in his life. Earlier, Star suggested that the nanobots may be affecting his behavior when he tries to remember her and he is still a little skeptical due to his experience with Colette. Plus, in the Kim Possible episode, Clean Slate, Kim didn't believe Ron until the near end either.
Jebest4781: Thank you :)
