High school is hard.

Of course, Jason already knew this (he had plenty experience). But he was duly reminded once midterms came round. He was spending way too much time than healthy at a coffee shop just 3 minutes away from his school.

He liked it there, it was buzzing pleasantly and he could people-watch while studying. It helped that the coffee was good too.

During one of his people-watching sessions, he found himself staring at an older man writing letters. His mind drifted to all the possible scenarios about what could be written inside that envelope. Could he be writing to the love of his life the older man had not seen in 3 years? Could he be writing to his granddaughter congratulating her about her newfound pregnancy? Could he be writing a birthday card to his neighbor? Jason was curious, but wondered why he was drawn to this letter-writing man. Maybe it was because he wrote letters too?

Then it hit him. The realization that communication unites us a whole, and brings society together, for better or for worse. Every method of communicating with other people, whether it be online, on paper, vocally, etc, is so important.

He kept staring at the older man in shock, with his mouth slightly parted. The older man looked up and gave him a curious look, to which Jason responded with light blush and averted eyes. He felt a sudden urge to write it down, and even though he should've been studying, he turned on his computer and opened a new google doc.

He typed everything going through his mind, good, bad and ugly. Before he knew it, he had written a letter without realizing it. He blinked in surprise and started writing it on paper. He read it over again, just to make sure he didn't sound like a complete idiot.

Dear Piper,

How strange is it that we need other people's input into our daily lives? I mean, imagine a world without talking, without conversing, without communicating, nada.

We literally need other people in our lives. Everyone is fighting their own uphill battles, and we're so focused on ours, that even talking a little bit of our time can impact someone's life so much. How incredible is that?

Sorry about the rant,

-Jason

P. S. Say hello to Sock for me please. What breed is he anyway?

A/N: Short, I know. But at least I updated, right? Right? Tell me what you think of this chapter in the review please :)

Have a great day!
