Chapter 8 Catching Madelyn

Hotch and Rossi both immediately left the café as soon as they got the call that Madelyn was in the park.

On the drive there they received reports from the additional agents on what Prentiss and Morgan had observed from Madelyn.

Reid called and told them Madelyn was with Mattie, who he played chess with at the park.

Hotch told Reid to remain in the rear. If Madelyn saw him it could make the situation worse.

Morgan would be the lead for the time being.

"What do you think her plan is?" Rossi asked.

"She will try to dance around and then try to see Reid. She won't hold onto Henry for long." Hotch answered.

"We need to locate Henry, fast," Rossi said.

"I know," Hotch said. He knew that losing Henry would devastate J.J. and the rest of the team.

Meanwhile, at the BAU, J.J and Will along with Garcia sat in the bullpen.

They continued to the listen to the reports that came in from the Agents looking for Madelyn.

When the agents confirmed that Madelyn was seen at the park J.J. gasped. Will in turn let go a gruff. That woman had his son.

"I'm going," J.J. said getting up from the desk. "Wherever that bitch is, I want to be."

"J.J.," Garcia started. She knew they were supposed to stay there.

J.J shot a look at Garcia. It did not convey the friendship that looks between them had usually shown.

"Be careful," Garcia quickly changed her tone.

Garcia was not going to be able to stop them.

J.J. and Will immediately got into one of the Bureau's SUVs and headed towards the park.

If Madelyn was there that meant that Henry was not the far behind.

Madelyn did not have any connections other than her aunt. She lost that bridge when the team went to the apartment. She was not going to get that back.

Madelyn would need another location. There was nothing to suggest that she had another location or relative.

Back at the park, the agents prepared themselves for dealing with Madelyn.

Reid turned to Mattie. "Stay home when you get there. I promise I will explain everything."

"Hey," Mattie said pointing under the table. "I don't know if this is something. I think she left her bag."

Reid glanced under the table.

An Un-Sub leaving a bag was never a good sign.

This was probably the trap that she had set.

Madelyn had been planning this for a long time. She wanted to show what she could do.

Reid looked back at Mattie, "don't move."

"Do I need to call someone?" Agent Wells asked.

"Morgan," Reid said. "He has bomb tech experience."

Agent Wells quickly spoke through the earpieces alerting the team to the potentially lethal object that was under the table.

Reid looked closer at the bag. It was an old messenger bag of his. He had gotten rid of it after he could not fix the zipper. That had been a month ago.

Madelyn must have grabbed it out of his garbage.

Reid looked at Mattie. "You're not touching the bag. Back up slowly, go with Agent Wells."

Mattie slowly started to back away.

Agent Wells guided Mattie back away from the chess table. He had quickly moved him away from the area.

Other individuals in the area had backed away realizing that there was a situation and had started leaving.

This was a good, because innocent individuals would not be hurt from anything in the bag or anything from Madelyn.

Reid had immediately stepped away from the tables. He quickly called Morgan through the earpiece.

"Madelyn got one of my old bags. She left it under the table."

"Damn." Morgan said.

Madelyn was making her weapon personalized. That made her more dangerous than what she already was.

He looked over at Prentiss.

She too had heard about the bag over the earpiece.

They had to take Madelyn now. They did not have a choice.

Madelyn was playing her own version of the cat and mouse game. She had placed others in danger.

Prentiss and Morgan moved into the crowd to arrest Madelyn.

Madelyn had other ideas apparently.

"There's a bomb!" Someone yelled into the crowd.

Morgan and Prentiss both knew that it was Madelyn.

The announcement had caused an immediate panic with the individuals at the park.

Everyone started running. Parents were grabbing kids and running from the park.

Madelyn had started running along with the rest of the individuals.

Morgan and Prentiss both ran after Madelyn.

"Madelyn Warren," Prentiss called out.

Madelyn did not even acknowledge Prentiss, she continued running.

Morgan and Prentiss both ran faster in order to catch up with her. They would have to use take down procedures to catch her.

Morgan got ahead of Madelyn and pointed his weapon at Madelyn.

She froze at the sight of him. This had not been part of her plan.

"Don't move, you are under arrest for kidnapping and child endangerment. . ." Morgan started.

Prentiss went behind Madelyn and grabbed a hold of her hands to cuff her.

Madelyn immediately started struggling against Prentiss. "Where's Spencer?"

"I'm more concerned about where Henry is," Morgan said.

"I want to talk with Spencer!" Madelyn said. "We are meant to be."

Morgan and Prentiss both grabbed ahold of Madelyn and started walking her back to the chess tables.

"You spoiled it. It was supposed to be Spencer that caught me."

"You weren't good enough." Prentiss answered. "Henry, we need to know where he is."

"I want to talk with Spencer first." Madelyn said. "Please, he's not fair he is perfect."

Morgan and Prentiss walked Madelyn back to the tables and placed her in one of the benches.

Reid purposefully moved out of sight. He would have to let the other members of team handle this.

Morgan in the meantime went to the bag and looked it over.

Prentiss watched Madelyn's body language while Morgan looked. She was not showing signs of immediate stress.
