Lol I wrote a part 2 to the last chapter? I honestly dont know what about this one. It's long and i dont know if it has a point. But I don't know. I just have a lot of feelings about these two. And I just want them to be happy. Why is that so hard? I hate this show lol. I hope you guys like this one.

Also just a random thought. i hate that i feel like it's forgotten how badass Teddy is. And what an amazing surgeon/boss bitch she is. It's annoying.

Alsooo this song! IS! PErfect for them. Just saying. If you want your feelings hurt.

This Too Shall Last - Anderson East

Teddy chuckles and hides in his chest. This might be the most cliche thing she could possible think of. Lying naked on the floor on a rug, by the fireplace. Afghan draped over them. Their Christmas tree half-decorated.

"What?" He asks laughing with her "What now?"

"Really? Sex by the fireplace."

"Where have we not done it in this apartment?"

She places a kiss on his chest. "Good point."

They lay on the floor quietly. She knows they're both thinking about it. Her mind slows down when his fingers rake through her hair.

A baby. A baby with Owen.

She hasn't thought about it when she found out because she's too preoccupied about not being able to tell Owen yet. She hasn't let herself wrap her mimd around it because she wants to tell him. She was so excited to tell him. And now he's here and he knows and it's real. It's becoming so real.

"Have you gone to the doctor? I mean, like, is this real? Blood test and all? Or.."

She nods and pets his chests. "Yes, blood test and all. I mean too early for the ultrasound and such.. but yeah… "

"Holy shit, Teddy."

"I know. I mean, yeah, it's too soon. But we both want this, right?"

"Yeah, of course. Without any hesitation."

She traces little shapes on his chest as she thinks about how this is going to play out. Her, leaving her job, her clinic her friends. Move back to Seattle. Fit back into his life, it's not hard, his family has been hers for a while now. Work? She's sure she'll figure it out. It's not unfamiliar. But building a family? With Owen? A kid? A little them running around. Something they've both wanted, but never thought they'd have. Something they'd have together.

"I think there was a reason it didn't work with Cristina. Or Beth or Amelia. It was never meant to be them. It's always been you." Owen says quietly, interrupting her thoughts. "Us? You know?A family? I've desperately wanted it for so long and it felt like I kept forcing it. When with you, I didn't have to. It's always been you"

"We're just on our own timetable, I guess."

"Yeah, I think we had to go through everything else to realize what we really wanted"

"I always know what I wanted, Owen. You had to go through everything else. I've always been here." He doesn't respond but she just gives him a squeeze "But it doesn't matter. You're here. We have each other."

She feels him leave a little kiss on her head, then it's replaced by his fingers again. She thinks ahead. Fast forward to next year. A little person joining them for Christmas. She allows herself to daydream. Holding their child, their first Christmas. Maybe in Seattle. Okay, yeah definitely in Seattle. They're surrounded by family. Presents everywhere. Naturally their child will be spoiled rotten. She imagines having a daughter, though she wouldn't be mad with boy. They're fine. But a little girl with bright ocean eyes and maybe even reddish hair. Definitely Owen's genes and features, she thinks. She'll just be a little nugget by next Christmas but it will still be perfect.

A huge part of her does not want to leave this apartment. Sure, she does not particularly love Germany, but this apartment. Her job. Her friends. This apartment though. This is sanctuary. Her home. Her perfect cocoon. She's not sure if she's ready to let go. She's also not sure if she wants to live in Owen's house and just slip into his ex-wife's side of the bed. He just got divorced. She probably has her stuff in his house. Oh god, he just got divorced and she just agreed to marry him.

"I guess when I get home I can start looking for a place. I'm assuming you don't want to live in the house I live in now" Owen says interrupting her thoughts. How does he do that? How does he read her mind.

"Yeah." She says quietly. Not saying out loud that maybe she doesn't want to leave this place, ever. Not saying out loud that maybe they need to think things through and rescind her 'yes' to his proposal.

"Maybe something like this. But bigger. You know.. for the baby"

Right. He has a point. They'd need another bedroom. A bigger space. Fine. Seattle wins. "Yeah, true." She says. No, she did not say 'yes' to marrying him because of the baby. She said yes because she loves him. She said yes for them. Because this is a long time coming. She said yes because they've loved each other for a long time. And her saying yes does not mean they have to get married right away. Saying yes is committing to him and to their child. That's enough for now. They'll figure it out.

"This place is so nice though. The windows." He says.

"Just find us a place with nice bay windows"

He chuckles "Is that your only requirement?"

"Maybe a fireplace. No, definitely a fireplace because this is perfect." She says pointing at the crackling fire. He pulls her closer and gives her a squeeze.

"So what now? What do we do?"

"We can finish decorating the Christmas tree." She says with a cheeky smile.

"I meant the future"

"Oh. I don't know. We don't have to figure it out tonight."

"Okay."

"Okay." She says, untangling herself from him and putting her clothes back on.

He does the same and he gets up and hands her a glass of water. A gesture, she finds so charming. He's extra caring all of a sudden. "So you're telling me, by next year, we'll have a baby celebrating Christmas with us." He says as he walks over to the tree and continues wrapping the lights around it.

"Yeah." She says. "And then a lifetime after that. Christmas after Christmas after Christmas."

"Until we're old and wrinkly"

"Yeah." She says as she hangs an ornament they bought at the market.

"Teddy?" He says. She looks up at him and meets his eyes. Sparkling blue eyes. Soft smile. "I know this is new for us. his whole thing. Being together, having a baby. But it's real. And it's happening. And I'm all in. And it's just not because you're having a baby. But I've always been in love with you. And this make sense, and I know I've said that before and I'll say it again and again and again until that doubt in your mind goes away. And I know you have doubts. And I don't blame you. But I just want to remind you."

"Okay." She says. She thinks he must have some kind of superpower. Or that he just knows her too well. He knows how her mind operates when she starts to keep quiet. He knows because no one knows her better than him. No one understands her better than him.

And people do say you should marry your best friend.

They're not wrong.

So she will. Soon? Eventually? Decades from now? It doesn't matter. She will. She'll know when it's right.

Owen is scouring the town. He has no idea where anything is. But he's on a mission. Teddy had to go to the hospital and he's left alone. He assured her he'll be fine. He's been to a foreign country before. He's been to Landstuhl before. But here he is walking around trying to find everything he needs.

He made a list.

Candlesticks? Candles? Teddy probably has some in her apartment.

All the ingredients for roasted chicken and mashed Potato.

Flowers - A bouquet. Some petals.

A ring.

He knew he was going to propose to her eventually. Years down the line. Sure. And sure this has everything to do with the baby. But why waste more time than they've already wasted.

This time he's sure. He's sure and he's sure that she's sure.

They're too old to play games. They've both been hurt too much to just not accept what's already in front of them.

This was something he should have done a long time ago. Something the two of them should have accepted, and made time for. They kept saying it was all about the timing. But they've both been stubborn and stupid to just let it be. Okay, he has been stubborn and stupid to let it be. Teddy had gone through great lengths for him. She always have. And now she's going through something for them. And he can't just let time pass and not acknowledge her, them, their love for each other.

So he will make this right. Another grand gesture. A decent proposal. A ring. Candles. Home cooked meal (okay that's to be determined). Because she deserves that. She deserves the great gesture. The romance. Because she is Teddy. He'll do everything to make her happy.

He finds a way. He finds a jeweler. He looks around. He sees it. Her name written all over it. He can see it perfectly on her slender finger. It did not take long. He knows what she wants. He knows her. Don't ask him because he can't tell you why, but he also knows her ring size.

Owen has thought about this moment plenty of times. Way more than he'd ever admit. He thought about when they were just friends and he was engaged to Beth. What would it be like if he was engaged to Teddy? He thought about it when Riggs proposed to Megan. He thought about how he'd never give her an engagement necklace because that's not romantic. Or maybe he should because they're in the desert and she's a trauma surgeon. She'd probably lose it. He thought about it when he married Henry. It should have been him eloping with her, not some random patient she met in the elevator.

But that's here nor there.

It's his moment now. He's finally going to have everything.

He looks at the ring. It's perfect. It's Teddy.

He closes the box and puts is in his pocket and he goes back out into the snowy town square. For a second he imagined himself living in Landstuhl. Teddy's neighborhood is cute. Ivy-covered buildings. Cafes. He could work for Teddy. It's a military hospital. There are a lot of Americans. A lot of their people. People who would understand them.

But Seattle is his home. His family. Their family. His sister nearby. He just got her back. He's not ready to move far away from her yet.

But it will make Teddy happy. To stay. To stay in her apartment. She would not stop talking about her apartment. About how much she loves it. And she loves her job. She's successful and respected. Maybe he can make sacrifices for her. Megan and his mom can visit Germany. Why not.

On his walk back to her place she passes a realty office. Something catches his eye. 'Dont be ridiculous, Owen', he thinks to himself. So he kept walking. But he stops again. Maybe. Just looking.

Teddy looks around in her office and she talks a long, deep breath to calm herself before a meeting.

She's used to change. She's used to packing up and leaving. Usually she does it without hesitation. She sees it as an opportunity to start anew and find something else about herself that she has not discovered. In this job, she learned she can be a great leader. She can run a hospital. She can open a clinic. She can make an impact in the world. And she feels good about that. She started something wonderful and if she just moves she doesn't get to see her legacy. But when she moves she'll start a difference legacy. But what will she be in Seattle? Just a cardio attending. But also she will be a mom. Which is probably the best job she'll ever have. Maybe being just an attending isn't so bad. But if she stays she can have both. Both jobs. Equally important. Equally amazing. She sighs and groans because she feels her stomach turning. She's not sure if it's anxiety or morning sickness or both.

But she knows one thing. She knows she loves Owen. She loves Owen and she'll figure out what to do. Everything will fall into place.

So she will go to this meeting. Then a surgery. Then she'll go home. Because she's actually excited to go home Because Owen is there waiting for her. She can't wait to see him. His smile. To spend the rest of the day in his arms. His warm arms.

She closes her eyes until the nausea passes.

It's fine.

It's fine.

The meeting is about opening up her clinic for refugees. She's been working on this for years and it's her baby and it's finally happening. She got all the funding she needed and she has the resources. And it hurts her heart a little to walk away from it.

And she loves this job. She loves her friends. One of the best things that Owen has ever done for her was fire her years ago so she'd take this job. She's still mad that she was technically fired. She makes a mental note to pick a fight with Owen about that later. But she's glad he did. Because this is the best thing that's ever happened to her. People saw potential in her— potential she didn't even realize she had. And she nurtured that potential and showed everyone what she's capable of. She's highly respected. Highly regarded. And she enjoys it a little—okay, fine, she enjoys it a lot. But she thinks she's okay walking away from it. She's okay knowing she had years under her belt of being a chief. Years of being a great chief. Years of research. Years of molding young surgeons in the army. Owen told her to be great. And she did. She was great. She is great.

It shouldn't be this hard. She could just tell her colleagues another opportunity. A personal one. She could tell her friends that she finally found a home. A home where she can put in her roots. A city where she can finally own property because she knows she's not going to just pack up and leave. Her home was never Germany. It was never meant to be Germany. She never thought it would be Seattle either. As corny as it sounds, it's wherever Owen is. This time it's Seattle. So it's okay, she'll pack up one last time. She'll leave the greatest career opportunity she's ever had. She'll hand over her plans to start the clinic refugee to her colleague and watch that baby grow up from afar.

She's not going to have any regrets about this because jobs and opportunities come and go. For all she knows she could be chief in Seattle someday. But she knows, yes, she's sure now, that she wants to move to Seattle. Start that next chapter.

She takes a deep breath again and heads to her meeting. Then to her surgery. Then to Owen. Back in Owen's arms. She could get used to this.

He doesn't know why he's nervous. It's a silly thing to be nervous about. He already asked. She already said yes. Well, she said "you just got divorced" but he got her to say yes eventually. But he doesn't know why his heart is beating out of his chest. He's pacing her apartment fiddling the box in his pocket.

The apartment smells amazing. The food in the oven. He facepalms when he realizes he bought wine. Briefly forgetting she's pregnant and can't drink. Why did he do that? How could he forget? Then he panics. What else did he forget? He must have forgotten something. An ingredient? Something in the mashed potato? It doesn't matter now. It's too late. He's never going to remember.

Teddy texted him that she's on her way home. And he went from cool, calm, collected to nervous—just nervous. But he looks around. Candles everywhere. Petals on the floor. Teddy doesn't have a dining table so he sets up the kitchen counter. It's cute. Her favorite record playing softly.

He hears the key turn and he stops fidgeting and he stands there.

The door opens. And his heart is beating.

He watches her.

He watches her eyes follow the trail of petals. Her eyes finds his and his heart melts when she smiles widely.

"What is this? What's going on?"

She asks as she closes the door and puts her bag down. He walks to her and removes her coat and hangs it up.

"What's going on, Owen? It smells amazing."

"Well, I made you dinner. Roasted chicken. Your favorite. I'm hoping it's better than your roasted chicken place."

"What's with the flowers and the candles and —"

"Just want to make it special." He notices her eyes tear up. "Hey, no, no crying"

"This is so nice"

"I wanted to make dinner for you. No big deal"

"But the flowers and the candles" She blubbers, but he finds in endearing. It's cute when she shows her emotions unfiltered. He wraps his arms around her and places a kiss on her forehead. "There better be petals and candles every time you make dinner. The bar you've set for yourself is very high now."

"Well, we'll talk about that after dinner. You haven't tried my chicken yet. Maybe I won't be allowed to make dinner ever again" He says, leading her to the kitchen. "Okay, sit down. Make yourself comfortable. Ignore the bottle of wine. I forgot for like 20 minutes" He gets red, but gets over it when he hears her laugh.

"Don't worry I forget sometimes too. The other day I poured myself a glass of wine and then the smell just did not sit well with me and then I remember."

"Okay, that makes me feel less terrible for forgetting."

He serves them a plate a pours her a glass of sparkling water. He sits in front of her with a smile. He's nervous. He didn't really have a plan or a timeline. He was going to do it right away but he figured she was hungry. He can do it after dinner. He'll know. He'll know when it's time.

"Owen, listen—"

She starts with a tone that makes him more nervous that he already was. It was serious.

"Teddy I—"

"No, me first." She says. "This chicken is delicious. So you're allowed to make it again. But. Owen, okay. Here goes"

He notices that she's nervous about something too. Of course she was. They both were. This is new. And huge. And scary.

"Okay…" Owen says urging her to continue.

"I quit my job. Well, I told them I'm leaving." She says and then she starts to ramble. "I told them I'd stay on until maybe the end of January, I think that's a pretty decent timeline. You know to like… pack my stuff, move my stuff, start transition to whoever's taking over. And I just have to say that now before I keep eating this delicious meal. I just had to say that. And I just had to tell everyone today because I might change my mind. No. I won't change my mind. I want to move to Seattle. I'm moving to Seattle. Yeah. We're going to Seattle. And we're buying a house and raising a family. IN Seattle."

He's stunned. But he can't help but laugh.

"Why are you laughing? Oh no. Why are you laughing?" She asks. He notices a flash of panic.

"I — I looked at an apartment. Here. Today. In this building actually. There's a two bedroom two floors up. Looks just like this but much bigger. I mean. I didn't rent it, or apply. I was going to talk to you about it. But for a second I thought maybe I can move here."

She covers her face and laughs "No. no. You hate Germany. We're moving to Seattle."

"But work—"

She takes his hands and squeezes it. "Work is work. It will come and go. I'll find work in Seattle. You hate Germany. I hate Germany."

"Your clinic—"

"I handed it to Rita. It's still going to be built."

"Okay. Seattle it is."

"You made dinner and you have flowers and made chicken because you were gonna wanna move to Germany" She laughs.

He adores her. He really does. He gets up from the barstool and gets down on one knee.

This is not sexy. She has a mouthful of chicken. And he is nervous and sweating.

"Owen! What are you doing?" She asks and jumps to her feet.

"Teddy—"

"You already asked! I already said yes"

He smirks and pulls out the ring from his pocket.

"Oh god, you got a ring."

"Of course I got a ring"

She crouches down in front of him and pulls him by the collars of his. "I already said yes"

"Will you let me propose"

"Why did you make a speech"

"No—Not really I was going to wing it."

"Okay let's hear it."

"Now I feel pressured"

"Did I ruin your romantic plan"

"No"

"Yes, I did"

"No you didn't now will you let me ask again."

She pulls him by the collar and gives him a kiss. "Yes okay fine. You were saying…"

"Teddy, you're my best friend. You have been the one constant in my life. You were there when I'm happy, or when I'm broken. You've always been selflessly there for me. You fly across the world, you move mountains for me. You answer every call. You listen to every word I say. I want you to know that I want to spend the rest of my life doing the same for you. I'm in love with you, Teddy. So in love, I can't even express it in words. Theodora Grace Altman, will you—"

"Yes" She says pulling him by the collar again and then wrapping her arms around his neck.

He wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her close. She pulls away and gently shoves him. "This was your plan? To propose in the middle of dinner"

"I was going to do it after but I couldn't wait" He says as he slides the ring on her finger. It was just as he imagined. It was perfect. He notices her glistening eyes as she admires it. He tilts her head so her eyes meet his. He leans in, tips of their noses touch. They smile at each other. Savoring every second of the moment before he leans in for a kiss.

"I'm in love with you too." She mutters "So what's for dessert"

"You'll just have to wait and see I guess."

"Hey Hunt" She said with a cheeky smile

"Yeah?"

"Remember when you fired me?"

He just laughs and they go back to their roasted chicken.
