Another day, another chapter
Recap: Ana told Christian it was time for him to get back to his own life. Christian and Ana came to an agreement for him leaving which meant leaving Sawyer outside Ana's apartment. Ana
Jack grabbed hold of my arm and pulled me towards him just as Sawyer came running in the door with his gun raised. Jack put me in front of him so Sawyer couldn't shoot and then got his own gun out of the waistband of his jeans; he held it to my head and wrapped one arm around me so I couldn't get away.
"Are you ok Ms Steele?" Sawyer asked and I nodded.
"Ms Steele?" Jack laughed "Her name is Ana," He stated.
"It's just part of the job... we always call people by their surname," Sawyer replied "I have called for backup and they will be here in less than two minutes. You can't get out of here with Ana, if you leave now on your own you might get a little head start but not with her," Sawyer told him.
"I'm not leaving her here. Me and Ana have some things to discuss." He turned his gun on Sawyer "Just me and Ana," He added and fired the gun.
I screamed as Sawyer landed on the floor, holding onto his shoulder. He had dropped his gun as he fell and Jack's grip on me tightened.
"Jack please," I cried "Stop this, it's insane," I told him.
"We're gonna be going now Ana... we need to talk without all of these people," He said and started pulling me towards the door.
"Jack," Sawyer gasped as he tried to sit up, I noticed the blood coming from his shoulder just above his chest. He was clearly in a lot of pain and trying to stem the bleeding. His gun was sitting a few meters away from him but I don't think he was able to reach it "Backup will be here any second," He said to Jack.
"Well then we better get going," Jack removed his arm from around my neck and grabbed hold of my arm, dragging me to the front door "If you don't keep walking, I will shoot him again." He warned.
I didn't want Sawyer to get shot again and if Sawyer was right that he had called for backup and they were nearly here, surely I wouldn't be with Jack for long.
Jack and I reached the front door and in the distance I heard sirens, Sawyer was right, he had called for backup. If I could just stall Jack for a couple more seconds they will catch him and lock him away. I turned to face Jack and knew he had heard the sirens too; he raised the gun and pointed it at my head.
"Keep going." He stated.
I walked out of the apartment and listened to Jack as he gave me directions as to where I was supposed to be going. I went down the stairs; Jack was close behind, so close that I could feel the gun pointing into my back. The police were close, just a few more seconds and they would be here... I just had to hold out for a few more seconds.
"There's a blue car parked in the alleyway behind the building. Walk calmly out of the building and go towards it, if you try to make a run for it or call for help I will kill you Ana," He warned.
I nodded to let him know I understood.
Jack opened the door to the building, holding it open so I could exit. I walked onto the street and did as Jack told me; I made my way into the alleyway by the side of the apartment building and walked towards the back as the police pulled up in haste outside the building. Four police officers jumped out of two separate cars, their guns out of the holsters and they ran into the building.
Jack and I reached the car and he unlocked it with some keys he got out of his pocket, in indicated for me to get in the passenger side, which I did. He rushed around to the other side and got in the driver's seat, he locked the doors so I couldn't escape the car but then he just sat there. He didn't move, I could tell by the look on his face that he was thinking and I didn't want to interrupt his thoughts and make him worse so I just sat quietly, praying one of the police officers would come and check out behind the building and find us.
Jack put the key in the ignition but didn't turn it, his face turned to look at me and I could see a helpless look in his eyes.
"Sorry Ana." He muttered and everything went dark.
Christian
I sat on the sofa in Ana's apartment, Kate and Elliott were talking to the police in the kitchen and Taylor was looking at the blood stain on the floor from where Sawyer had gotten shot. I knew something like this was going to happen, that's why I didn't want to go home! I know Ana likes her space and independence and after everything she had been through it was obvious why she wanted some personal space but I just knew! I never should've left or I should've had Sawyer in the apartment. I told her that I would never forgive myself if something happened to her after I left and this is what I was talking about. I can't forgive myself; Sawyer has been shot and Ana has been taken God knows where with a maniac who has proved that he will hurt her. He has a gun and no one seems to know where he has gone or how he managed to slip out of the building with Ana. I am so angry and I want to beat something to death, preferably Jack. This really is a nightmare come true. This should never have happened, not to someone like Ana, she didn't deserve any of this. Jack Hyde has a lot to answer for and he better pray that the police get hold of him before I do because I won't be as kind and forgiving as them.
The front door closed and I noticed that the police officer had gone, Kate was crying and Elliot was hugging her. Taylor stood up from the floor and got his phone out of his pocket, he excused himself from the room and proceeded to call someone, probably the security team to give them a briefing.
"Christian, will you tell Kate that Ana will be ok," Elliot pleaded with me.
"Of course she will be ok. Ana is a strong woman and I don't think Jack wants to hurt her. He says he loves her and wants to talk to her, time to explain things properly to her... that doesn't sound like someone who wants to hurt her," I explained to Kate.
"Why did he take her? He could've done that here," She argued.
"Sawyer was here and he got skittish. I think he'll tell Ana whatever it is he wants to tell her and then he'll let her go because he knows Ana won't give into him whilst being held hostage. Jack is many things, stupid he isn't," I told her.
"If he hurts her-"
"He won't," Elliot cut her off.
"He better not." I muttered but I don't think Kate and Elliot heard me.
Of course I'm worried about him hurting just as much as Kate is but I don't think I should voice that, Kate seems upset enough as it is and I don't want to make it worse. I know how much Elliot hates it when she cries.
"I can't sit here and do nothing," I said agitated and stood from the sofa.
"What are you going to do?" Elliot asked.
"I don't know but I have to do something," I replied louder than necessary.
"The best thing we can do is wait for news. You don't have the first clue about Jack Hyde and where he might go, what he might do, how he might be getting around and the police have formed a search party. Half of the police officers in the state are out there looking for them. Just let them do their jobs and we will get Ana back soon," He explained.
"Sir," I turned to Taylor who emerged from another room, he had finished his phone call and was putting the phone back in his pocket "I have some information for you," Taylor stated.
"Have they found Ana?" Kate asked in desperation.
"I'm afraid not," He replied.
I followed Taylor into Ana's bedroom, he closed the door behind us "I've had people looking into My Hyde. Currently he doesn't have any vehicles, property or land in his name. There is no movement on his bank accounts so we don't know where he is getting money from but we do know he only has a very small list of people that would be willing to help him," He explained.
"What do we know about his past?" I questioned.
"Not a lot. He was bounced around from foster home to foster home, no information on his birth parents and it doesn't seem like he stayed in contact with any of his foster families. His phone records indicate three people that he is close to, all of them are being spoken to and any vehicles or property they own is being searched," He told me.
"Well it narrows it down a little I suppose... unless he's gone solo and not getting help from anyone," I pointed out.
"To do what he's doing, he needs help from someone. You can't disappear, especially with a hostage, without help from someone," Taylor said.
"What can I do to help?" I asked.
"To be honest Sir, there isn't anything you can do right now." He answered.
Well that's just great, I hate sitting here doing nothing. It is driving me crazy! I need to get out of here as soon as possible and start putting myself to some use. I definitely cannot sit here much longer with Elliot and Kate; I can't deal with women crying.
Is Taylor right; does Jack have help from someone? Where is Jack taking Ana? How long will it be until someone finds her? Once again, so many questions that needs to be answered so make sure you come back for the next chapter to find out what happens next.
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and I hope you are still enjoying this story!
