"I am utterly ashamed by my actions today Ozpin. I do not know what overcame me this morning. Simply apologizing would not be enough convey how much I regret what I have done".
Professor Ozpin, who was sitting behind his desk, put down his mug and responded, "In all my years working with you Glynda, I have never seen such ferocity from you".
"You were watching us!? How much did you witness?"
Now chuckling, "I was observing you the whole time through the cameras. It was quite amusing watching everything unfold".
Glynda suddenly bowed her head, "Please deduct all the damage I did to Beacon from my paycheck! I am truly ashamed of my behavior and await further punishment".
"There is no need for that Glynda. I am sure you can put everything back in its place. Besides, I think we have a bigger concern". As Ozpin finished saying that he looked to the right her. There, sat Hans Iron's slumped body. His face was so swollen that it was unrecognizable, and his clothing was covered in dirt and ripped to shreds.
Taking a peek over at her colleague, "I am sure he is not dead…"
"Rest assured, Mr. Iron is a very durable man. Actually, I think he is merely pretending to be passed out as of right now".
"Really?!" Glynda quickly corrected her posture and stared at Hans. Seconds turned into a minute, but his body refused to move. "…I do not mean to undermine your judgement Ozpin, but is your evaluation about his capabilities misguided?"
Ozpin reached for his mug once more, "I wonder which of you would have come out on top if Hans had taken the whole encounter more seriously".
Feeling insulted, "I hope you are not being serious. Hans is just an ex-huntsman who quit after he lost his team".
Finishing the remaining coffee in his mug, Ozpin stood up, "I think that is quite enough chit-chat for now. Class will start soon, and I am sure some of the students are wondering where their instructor is".
Glynda got up, and nodded, "If you'll excuse me then".
Once the door closed behind her, Ozpin walked towards the window and looked out to Beacon and spoke out, "You can stop playing possum now".
"Finally, I thought she wasn't ever going to leave," Hans groaned as he slowly got out of his slump, "You mind keeping your discoveries to yourself next time?! You almost blew my cover".
"I thought I would lighten up the mood by inviting you into the conversation".
"That would've just made it more awkward than anything". Hans rose from his seat and limped over to Ozpin. "I thought I was really going to die towards the end there!"
"I think the fact that she did not push it any further is proof that she is growing fonder of you".
"Ha ha, very funny Ozpin," Hans said dryly before reaching him.
"I was being serious".
"Well, that's a scary thought…"
"I'm sure you two will get along eventually. I believe she is slowly growing fonder towards you."
"Didn't feel like it to me. She seems harsh as ever".
"That is because she is cruder about you when you are not present," Ozpin was now gazing at Beacon alongside Hans, "What do you think of the other instructors here?"
"Peter is as nice as ever, Oobleck is a little odd but we get along, and I still haven't really talked with the others yet".
"That's good to hear. By the way Hans, do you know anything about the previous Grimm studies professor?"
"Uh yeah, Peter mentioned it to me. Why are you bringing this up Ozpin?"
"Well I thought that I'd tell you truth".
"The truth? What the hell do you mean?!"
"What do you know about his death?"
"Well, Peter told me that they choked on some peanuts or something".
"I see," Ozpin turned to face Hans, "The Asphyxiation was just a cover up story that I made up since he was severely allergic to peanuts. The truth is that he was murdered".
"What? Have you found out who did it?"
"Not yet but I am investigating it myself."
"I see, who else knows about this besides me and you?".
"The only other person in this academy is Glynda".
"What's the point of keeping this all a secret Ozpin? What's your plan?"
With a raised eyebrow, "You don't seem that surprised by learning this Professor Iron".
"O-Oh, well that's probably because this is more believable than death by peanuts".
"Do you think so? The other staff members did not have any concerns with the professor's death".
"So, do you have any-"
As Hans was further questioning Ozpin about the subject at hand, a bell rang from the tower that signified that classes were about to start.
"Ah, I had almost forgotten. You should go rest up for the remainder of the day, I will have someone fill in for you"
With confidence in his voice Hans responded, "There's no need for that, I should still be able to still teach. Thanks for the offer though". Hans tried to leave but was impaired by injuries.
"Would you like some assistance?"
"Yes please".
Classes for the day were finally over and Hans had somehow made through it all despite his injuries. Some students felt sympathy watching their deformed professor try his best to get through the lesson plan while others were shocked that he was still alive after witnessing the events that had transpired this morning. Although the lecture was hard to follow, all of Hans' students learned one of the most valuable lessons that day; Do not piss off at all costs.
FINALLY! Hans, who was sitting, crashed down onto his desk. They're all gone now. I can finally allow my body some rest.
As Hans' mind started to drift into unconsciousness, a soft voice plunged after it.
"Professor? Sorry if I'm bothering you. I'd knock but-" Blake stepped through the doorless doorway and came upon the unmoving body of her professor. "Are you still alive?!" rushing over to her professor to check his vitals, Blake let out a sigh of relief as she picked up a pulse in his neck. As she slowly lifted her hand from his neck, she whispered to him, "I hate to say I told you so, but I told-"
In an instant, Hans grabbed onto Blake's wrist before it could get away. "THEN DON'T SAY IT YOU TRAITOR".
Trying to pull her hand away from his clutches, Blake quickly responded with, "Traitor?! It's your fault for not listening to me in the first place!"
"I can accept my folly on that end BUT I CAN'T ACCEPT A COMRADE ABANDONING ME!"
"What more did you want from me?! An apology? Well I'm sorry!"
"I don't want your flimsy apology…"
"Then what do-"
Hans' scowl morphed into a sadistic grin, "I WANT YOU TO SUFFER AS I HAVE"
"W-What are you talking about?!"
Hans grabbed Blake's other arm and pushed her onto the table. "I hope you're ready for something my teammates would say was A Fate Worse Than Death.
Blake struggled with all her might, but she couldn't break Hans' pin. "How the do you still have so much strength left?"
Hans ignored Blake and chuckled to himself, "It's time for the procedure to start," as he reached inside his tattered coat and pulled out a fluffy feather from his pocket.
Before Blake could respond, the feather darted to her sides, "Wha- GAH"
"Is this your weak spot? Or is it here?!" Hans changed targets and started attacking her neck with the feather.
Blake clenched her fist and tried to resist laughing with all her might, "STAHP! N-NO MORE!"
As Hans got close to breaking through Blake he let out a maniacal laugh, "HA-HA-HA-HA-HA- uhhhhh," Hans noticed the presence of somebody at the door and quickly turned his head to see who it was or rather… who they were.
Ruby, Weiss, and Yang were standing at the doorway and staring at the two with mixed reactions.
Simultaneously they said, Ruby: What are you two doing?
Weiss: H-H-How REVOLTING
Yang: brb I'm getting
"W-W-WAIT!" Hans shouted out as he quickly pocketed the feather and got off Blake. "I can ex-" Wait… how the hell am I supposed to explain my way out of this?
After panting a few breaths Blake sat up, "Thank goodness you guys are here".
As Hans stepped away from the desk while his face was beginning to be canvased with sweat, the three at the door entered and approached the pair.
"Well? Care to explain yourself?!" Weiss questioned her professor as she stomped her way towards him.
"W-W-W-Well…" Hans retreated from Weiss until his back was against the blackboard.
As Ruby helped Blake get up, Yang approached Hans with her arms crossed and stood beside Weiss, waiting for an answer.
Hans' mind raced to come up with anything to get him out of this predicament but as he thought more and more about the implications of what he was doing, he came closer and closer the realization that I'm screwed.
Weiss and Yang said in unison, "We're waiting!"
Hans thought about explaining how his old team used feathers all the time to play pranks and tease each other but he overheard Blake explain to Ruby that "Professor Hans just suddenly pinned me" in a weak voice. Both of Weiss' and Yang's expression turned from anger to hatred immediately.
I give up, there's no way I'm getting out of this one. Hans shrugged with both of his arms raised and said "Guilty as charged" with a sheepish smile.
Not happy with the answer that was given, the two that had cornered Hans each grabbed an arm and started pulling him out of the room. Hans followed the two trying to match their pace with a defeated look. As they were about to exit the room Hans looked back and saw the corner of Blake's lips curl into a smile.
Using the last of his energy Hans struggled to keep his body in the room and shouted "THIS ISN'T OVER BLAKE! YOUR CRIMES WILL NOT GO UNPUNISHED! I SWEAR THIS ISN'T OVER!" before finally being yanked out.
Ozpin let out a sigh as Hans explained the backstory of the feather.
Yang let out a roar of laughter, "SERIOUSLY FEATHERS! YOU GUYS WOULD GO AROUND TICKLING EACH OTHER!"
"After one member almost drowned, we agreed to stick with something that wouldn't hurt each other!"
As Yang continued to laugh while holding onto her sides, Weiss asked, "You're not actually buying into this crude story, are you?" Yang completely ignored Weiss' question and continued to laugh at the other stories of dangerous pranks that Hans' team pulled on each other.
Weiss gave up on questioning Hans any further and began to listen intently on her professor's stories with looks of shock and horror at what his team thought were "practical jokes".
Ozpin gazed at the array of emotions sprawled in front of him and he couldn't help but smile. He was upset that Hans had been dragged into his office yet again, but it seems it was somewhat unwarranted. Glynda was not wrong in her assessment of Hans Iron. He is quite the handful, but it would be a waste of potential to not have him here. One of the most important things a Huntsmen can have are strong bonds. When all your training is not enough and your weapon fails you, the only thing one can rely on is your allies and no one understands this better than Hans.
Ozpin got up and interrupted the three, "I would love to hear more of your exploits Professor Iron, but the hour is late".
"Oh I didn't even realize Ozpin," Hans got up with a low groan as his bones creaked.
The other two got up and thanked Ozpin for his time as they left with Hans but before they left, Ozpin had one final thing to say, "Keep up the good work Hans".
Confused, Hans replied "Sure Ozpin" as he walked through the door.
A/N: I've decided to change the .5 chapters into their own since it was getting a bit hard for me to track which chapter was which :P
Sorry again for taking so long on this chapter though . I've been really busy the past two months and I'm only going to getting busier. Still, I hope you all look forward to the next ^.^
