CHAPTER 8

It starts with Doug shaking Eddy awake

Doug: Hey dipshit. Awake. Awaken man. We're here.

Eddy: Uhhh… Cut it out, out I'm awake

Doug: Dude you just slept for like 11 hours straight. I think those ham sandwiches you've been living off of are tainted.

Jojo spins around in his seat

Jojo: Do NOT talk shit on my ham sammies. They're immaculate.

The Group set foot out of the van. They're on the outskirts of Tennessee city, the largest metropolitan area in all of Tennessee. Double D's Gizmo has led them to this location. They make their way down main street, but something is off.

Jojo: Everybody be on high alert. Anybody in this city could be an enemy in disguise.

Doug: I don't think that's gonna be a problem. I haven't seen a single person here.

Double D: It's incredibly peculiar, but it seems that this city is completely abandoned!

Eddy: Guys, what the hell are those?

Everybody looks where Eddy is pointing, and they see that the air above them is filled with floating cubes of a variety of colors.

Double D: That's incredible! They're completely unbound by gravity! It's almost as if they're abiding by an entirely different set of physics!

Doug: I'm gonna touch one

Before he can be stopped, Doug boosts himself into the air with fire then ascends up the side of a skyscraper, before doing a flip off of it and slapping one of the cubes. The cube begins to slowly accelerate in the direction it was slapped, but it quickly picks up speed until it's a speeding blur. The cube collides into a building, creating a huge impact crater before disappearing

Doug lands on his face

Jojo: alright cool. Let's be careful with those.

They walk through the abandoned city for half an hour. There still doesn't appear to be a single person around. Empty cars litter the road. Eventually Double D's gizmo leads them to a large warehouse. As they approach the building, the gizmo's screen flashes incredibly quickly then shuts off.

Double D: Alright. This is it.

Jojo: Before we go in we're going to need a gameplan. I'm think-

Doug: That's boring man let's just get this over with

Doug pushes through the others and runs into the warehouse

Jojo: Good grief… Doug! Wait!

Jojo follows behind him, with the eds close behind. The ceiling of the warehouse is interlaced with rafters, and above them are many of the floating cubes from outside are slowly twirling around the room. Doug stands in the center of the warehouse, hands ablaze. He's looking around, eager to find someone to fight. He's so focused on his search that he doesn't notice one of the light fixtures has been cut, and is heading right for his head.

Jojo: Za warudo!

Jojo rushes toward the frozen Doug, seconds away from being crushed. He briefly notices that the floating cubes don't seem to have stopped, but the observation is quickly forgotten as the task at hand is direly pressing. He dives, tackling Doug out of the way just as time resumes and the light collides with the ground where Doug was just standing.

Jojo: Doug if you ever do that again I'm-

Jojo's cut off as he's showered by sparks from his left side. He looks just in time to see what seems to be a rectangle floating in the open air, a doorway to another place, and out of it a giant yellow bird with a baseball bat is coming right for him.

He tries to stop time, but his ability still needs time to recharge. He starts to lift his hands in defense, but it's too late. The steel bat collides with skull and jojo is sent flying into the wall of the warehouse, unconscious.

Big Bird: Thanks kid! Real kind of you to make Jojo use his time stop for me.

Double D: That's him! He's the source!

Big Bird: Tch… I have a name you know. It's big bird to you.

Double D summons hardware store and makes a dash towards the bird as Doug stumbles to his feet and moves in with a flaming punch. Big bird motions towards the portal he just jumped out of, and it dissolves into two orange spheres with things on it I'll draw a picture for you or something. Check my twitter or dm me. They fly towards Big bird, and each gets between him and either double d or Doug. Right before their attacks collide, the balls expand into two connected portals, and Double D's attack is diverted right into Doug's face.

Doug flies back onto the ground, holding the skin of his face as it begins to disassemble.

Doug: Mmmmfff! Mmhff!

Double D: Doug! Oh goodness, I'm so sorry!

Double D attempts to make his way towards doug to try and reverse the disassembly, but he's stopped by a bat to the ribs. He falls backwards into one of the portals and gets spit out at the opposite end of the warehouse.

Big Bird: I commend the effort, but you're wasting your energy. I can tell you're inexperienced with your stand, but even if you'dve mastered it it'd be no match for my 「Sunny Days」. With it, as i'm sure you've noticed, I can create portals between any two spots within my range. It of course has a secondary ability, but i don't think you'd enjoy seeing what that is. Now run off, before I make it so you can never return home again.

Double D: Never! I'm not going to leave my friends to die you cretin!

Big Bird: Fine kid, your funeral.

「Sunny Days」 begins to spin around itself in a circle, slowly picking up speed. Sparks begin to shoot from the center, but before the attack is fully charged, it's interrupted

From the ceiling one of the floating cubes comes crashing down onto Big Bird at mach speed, with Eddy riding it down. While the enemy was distracted by his powered compatriots, eddy had snuck into the rafters and gotten onto one of the cubes.

The shockwave from the impact nearly knocks Double D off his feet, but he manages to make his way back to doug and punch him in the face to stop it from disassembling. Unfortunately he overdid it and knocked doug out in the process.

Double D: Oh douglas, if we get out of this I swear i'll make this up to you-

Big Bird: You little shit! I should've gotten rid of you first!

Double D looked back to the crater only to see a bloodied Big Bird standing on Eddy's neck.

Double D: Let go of him!

Big Bird: I swear to god, take a step closer and I crush his windpipe!

Eddy: D! Stand back buddy. It's alright. Look, I know things look bad right now, but you're gonna pull through this. I didn't know what I was getting into when we started this mess, but i stuck around 'cause i wanted to make sure you stayed safe.

「Sunny Days」 descends around Eddy. It begins to spin in the same way it had before.

Double D: Eddy, what are you saying?

Eddy: I believe in you. When you're back at the culdesac, tell everyone i went out fighting.

Eddy flashes Double D the warmest smile he can muster as sparks from 「Sunny Days」 begin to cover him.

Eddy: See you on the other side buddy.

And with a golden flash of light, Eddy is gone.
