Lloyd waved at the departing customer as a girl in a green hoodie walked in. As soon as he identified her, his heart skipped a beat. First Spinjitzu Master, why? I'm going to mess up so badly!
"Hi, Green Bean," Harumi smiled mirthfully at the nickname. "Do you happen to have bubble tea?"
"Uh, well, uh..." The menu didn't include bubble tea, but that didn't stop Lloyd from having a secret stash of tapioca pearls. "Well... no. I mean... yes? Sort of?"
Harumi leaned onto the counter. Lloyd was sure that she would be able to hear his heart pounding if she came any closer.
"You're giving a mixed answer. Yes or no?"
"Uh... no."
Harumi sighed. "Oh, well. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow for my friend to try it, since the café is closed for maintenance..."
"I mean, yes!" he blurted out.
She raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you—"
He placed two fingers over her lips, silencing her as predicted. "Uh, don't tell Morro just yet, but... I may or may not have a secret stash of pearls for when I get a craving for bubble tea?"
Harumi giggled. It was the most beautiful sound he'd ever heard. Gosh, thank goodness that Morro isn't here. He'd tease you endlessly!
Lloyd returned to the counter a few minutes later with two to-go cups in hand. "Here."
Harumi sipped the bubble tea as she paid for the drinks. "Hmm, sweet. Just like you."
He blushed. D-Did she just compliment me? Lloyd was quite sure he imagined it, but there might have been a light tint of pink on her cheeks.
"Well, I've gotta go. Bye!" Harumi turned, quickly leaving.
"Uh, yeah. Come back soon!"
Morro entered. "Hey, did I miss anything? And why did I not know that there were tapioca pearls?"
Uh, oh.
"Wait, you have a secret stash!?"
Vania drummed her fingers on her knee as she waited for Harumi to return. She wasn't quite sure as to why the white-haired girl decided to go to Steeper Wisdom. After all, the cafe was still open.
Chompy wriggled out of her bag, licking her playfully as he leaped over to her. She giggled, patting his head.
She picked up the white dragon, leaning closer to the door, which was slightly open.
"... Sweet, just like you," Vania heard Harumi say. Oh! Vania quickly returned to her original position. She has a crush!
"... Come back soon!" said a male voice.
She grinned mischievously as Harumi exited the tea shop. Harumi gave her the to-go cup, plopping down next to her.
"What's so funny?" she asked.
"Nothing. It's just... you have a crush~" the blonde teased in a sing-song voice.
Harumi's face flushed. "W-What? No! I'm not interested in relationships!"
"Really? Your face says the opposite."
"Vania!"
Chompy nudged the blonde's hand, sniffing the cup. Vania dropped the cup as he nipped her fingers. "Hey!"
He jumped down, looking up innocently before licking the tea. Vania glared at him. "Sneaky."
The next thing she knew, the small reptile was flapping around and zooming off.
"Chompy! Oh, gosh, he must be having a sugar rush."
Harumi sighed, climbing onto her motorbike. "Get on."
"Why? I'm sure he'll come back soon." Chompy flew past, going the opposite direction from where he went.
"I don't want the whole city to know that there's a dragon on the loose!"
"It's a baby!"
"Oh, just get on!"
Vania sighed. "Mental note to self: Never give a dragon too much sugar."
Despite how slow Kai thought school was going, the weekend eventually rolled around, and so did a break.
At least, that was what he thought. Too bad, you ended up doing the groceries with Nya.
"Come on, Nya, I wanna get back home and rest!" Kai said as Nya decided to lag behind even more.
"Kai, you won't die if you don't take a look at your fan mail," she groaned.
Kai stared at her, offended. "Hey!"
At the same time, the siblings heard a, "Hey!" from across the park. Both looked over to see Skylor facing off with four of the most weirdly costumed people Kai had ever seen.
So that must be what Skylor's friend had been talking about.
Kai handed the bags to Nya, who grumbled in protest. "What are you planning to do? They look like they could easily beat you to pulp."
"Calm down, sis. I can easily handle them. What can they do?"
"Kai, they could have weapons..."
"I don't see any, and it looks like Skylor needs help."
"But, Kai—"
Kai walked up to the gang anyway. Bad mistake. The second he said so much as a, "Hey!" a punch flew into his face.
"Hey! What was that for? You should leave her alone!" He massaged the pained area on his face.
The guy in front of him cracked his knuckles. "Stay out of our business unless you want something worse to happen."
Kai glared at him. "I'm not leaving until you leave her alone."
Suddenly, he was on the ground. The oddly costumed people started kicking and punching in his face and stomach. Kai tried to stop the attacks, but it proved to be useless.
"Leave him alone! I said leave him alone!" Skylor shouted.
A bright flash illuminates the world. The attacks cease. Kai opened his eyes to see the gang running away. But... why?
He turned his gaze towards Skylor, who was bending over him. "You should probably come back with me," she said softly. "Get that wound treated."
Huh? He felt a sting of pain on his left arm. Oh, great.
"I told you! Great, now you're hurt! What am I supposed to tell Mom and Dad?" Nya said as she walked up. She glanced nervously at Skylor.
"You go back home. I'll treat Kai," Skylor said.
She helped Kai up, who was still rubbing his head with his good arm. Nya scrutinized the redhead, before speaking. "I want to come."
Skylor opened her mouth to retort, but Kai beats her. "Nya, I'll be fine. You should probably get those groceries back home. Sky's trustworthy."
"I told you not to call me Sky."
Nya grumbled in response, turning around and stomping back to their apartment.
Kai glanced at Skylor, who was pressing a piece of cloth onto his arm to stop the bleeding. "Do you happen to know what caused the flash earlier?"
"Lightning," she muttered.
As they walked to where she lived, Kai looked at the clear sky. Yeah, lightning.
After returning from his trip to the hardware store, all while accidentally crashing into a red-haired girl and apologizing, Jay was currently working on the wings of his flying contraption.
His phone buzzed with a message. Opening it, he saw that it was from Nya.
Nya
Hey. Is it ok if I come over now? Got nothing to do.
Sorry I couldn't come sooner, something crazy happened.
Jay
Yep. I'll send u the address for my home.
[Jay sent their home address to Nya.]
Nya
Wow, I was passing by.
Jay leaped out of his chair, racing down the stairs and out the door. Nya was waving.
"Nya! I missed you!" Jay collided into her, wrapping the raven-haired girl in a hug. Quickly realizing his actions, he lets go. "Uh, sorry."
Nya smiled. "It's okay. Now, let's go see that little invention of yours."
Her smile was enough to melt his heart. Oh, wow... Jay smacked into the doorframe. He laughed nervously. "Whoops. Got distracted by your pretty face." Jay slapped his hands over his mouth. FSM, that was so embarrassing!
Nya's face had turned a bright shade of pink, flustered. "Let's just go in!"
His mother walked into the living room. "Oh, hello! Blue Jay, you have a girlfriend!?"
"W-What? No! It's nothing like that!"
She gave him a perplexed look. "But you're holding hands."
Both glanced down, and sure enough, their hands were intertwined with the other. Unknowingly, they must have done it while entering the villa. Both immediately let go. Jay couldn't think of anything more embarrassing.
We held hands! Jay screamed in his mind.
"Mom, this is Nya," he said calmly. Well, tried to.
"Hi, Mrs. Gordon."
"Oh, please, just call me Libber. Do you want anything? Cookies and milk? Actually, I won't ask. You're in the growing stage." She turned and entered the kitchen.
Jay nervously smiled as the two teenagers went to the garage. "Excuse my mom, she's..."
"Energetic? I can see where you got your personality from." Nya giggled.
Grabbing a screwdriver, she took a piece of wood, examining the blueprint every now and then.
It was silent, apart from the occasional crinkling of paper or wood scratching the pavement as either person adjusted the position.
"So, what was this crazy thing that happened?" Jay asked.
Nya rubbed her head sheepishly. "Honestly, no one would believe it."
"Try me."
"Well..." Nya tapped her chin. "Lightning came out of this red-haired girl's hands." She glanced at Jay. "Does that seem believable?"
A crash prevents Jay from answering. Both heads whipped around to see Jay's mother gaping at them, the tray of milk and cookies on the ground. Her face was pale.
"D-Did you say lightning coming out of someone's hands?"
Fun fact: I'm writing the next work I'll be posting after this. Gosh darn it, why must I be so excited?
Do you guys want a teaser for the upcoming book that I'm writing? I'll be posting it on my message board (on Wattpad) and Tumblr! No spoilers, it's just a little snippet. Nothing about the big plot! It'll probably come around next month? I don't have much written, so yeah.
Have a great whenever!
