Note: Wow. This chapter took me a lot longer than I wanted it to. As I am nearing the end of the semester, I have to write this 20- to 30-page report. That's where a lot of my time is going.
Chapter 8
"Okay. This should be far enough," Kaoru said as she helped Tagitsuhime sit on the floor. The group moved slowly but with enough effort, they were out of view of the monster. They were still in the school so they didn't exactly feel safe. Kaoru and Sayaka were worried about how the other two members of the Elite Guard were doing. They were given warnings on the kind of monster the Ubistvo was.
"I want revenge," Kofuki said after a brief moment of silence. "I want that bastard dead. I lost my arm and most importantly, Mihono is dead because of him."
With a little help, Kofuki ripped off part of her pajama pants to sloppily wrap up the edge of her arm.
"It's all my fault. MacArthur wanted noro," President Takatsu said. "I don't know how he got into the building. Let alone how he found the room I was in. I refused to give him noro. That puppet of his attacked me and they both walked out. It wasn't too long that this catastrophe happened. I should have given him the noro. Many lives could have been saved."
"I don't blame you," Sayaka responded and went to give her a hug. The woman responded to the gesture by giving her a hug back. "You didn't know what to do. I'm glad you're alive."
"Kaoru! Sayaka! President! Kofuki!" an unfamiliar voice said. They all turned around to see a small group of Toji arrive. They must be the backup Toji that were supposed to help. The newly arrived Toji then had mixed reactions of anger and confusion. "Tagitsuhime?!"
"It's a long story," Kaoru said after surveying their reactions. "What took you all so long?"
"I apologize. How is the situation so far?"
"Things aren't getting any better. MacArthur is back and he has a super soldier at his disposal. Take President Takatsu and Kofuki out of here. We have to go back for the other members of the Elite Guard," Kaoru stated.
"What happened to them?"
"Oh no," Tagitsuhime said with a slightly worried expression. She was able to get a view of the future. She saw Maki's head on the floor and Suzuka was torn in half. If the monster was as violent as they claimed it was, then they are correct. She wanted to run back to where the other two were and fight it. It felt weird having to act like a hero of some sort. Not even a year ago was she seen as a menace to the world. Toji and any related authority wanted her exorcised. Now here she is. Fighting side by side with them. All against a common enemy. She collected noro but all it did was advance MacArthur's creation with nothing to advance her desire for world domination. Simply put, she did not benefit from anything she's done.
"What happened?" Sayaka asked.
Without answering her question, Tagitsuhime took off running. Sayaka followed after. Kaoru quickly told the group to save the president and Kofuki before taking off.
The Ubistvo slowly approached Maki and Suzuka, using its left arm to lift the chainsaw arm in the air. The odd thing was that smoke was coming out of the chainsaw. Both Toji firmly gripped their okatanas and thought how to best approach the situation. Given its horrid design, its gait was rather normal. It did not struggle to walk or anything. Did this thing have feelings or anything? Could it think? How was it created? Was a person used to create it? Now wasn't the time to be asking questions.
When the chainsaw monster got close enough, it started moving haphazardly. It swung its chainsaw horizontally and then vertically. It moved toward Maki and Suzuka with this pattern. There were light tremors and sparks every time the chainsaw made contact with the floor from the vertical swings. The Ubistvo made an indescribable yell as it crazily swung. As if reading each other's thoughts, both girls split up.
The Ubistvo quickly chose to go after Maki. All that is left is for Suzuka to quickly come up with a strategy. When it was about three meters from Maki, the monster stopped its swinging and moved slowly. Maki walked backwards to see what it does. It swung down, missing Maki completely by several feet. Using Jin'i, Suzuka came in and struck the monster in the back and pulled her okatana away. It let out a yell of pain. Clearly angered, it quickly swung while turning around. The attack split Suzuka in half, breaking her Utsushi. The sound the chainsaw made and how quickly and cleanly it split Suzuka in half gave them the notion that it can pretty much cut anything. Not wanting anything else to happen, Maki used Jin'i to grab her friend and move away from the thing.
"Are you okay?" Maki asked as she held Suzuka close.
"I'm okay. I can still keep going," Suzuka replied as she turned her head to look at the monster coming at them with the haphazard swinging. It let out a cackle that sounded like it came from a broken robot.
"I-is it laughing?" Maki asked. They way it was coming towards them, they felt it was going to be the end of them. That was until she saw someone coming up behind the chainsaw monster. It was Tagitsuhime.
The aradama princess dashed and struck the Ubistvo with her okatanas. The strikes caused the monster to fall to one knee. Taking advantage of its recovery position, she went in for another strike. The second set of strikes didn't seem to do much. It got up and crazily swung again. She moved close to the Toji pair.
"You two get out while you still can. This thing is not going down easy. Leave it to me and the other two Toji," Tagitsuhime instructed.
"We can still fight," Maki said. She and Suzuka got up and activated Utsushi again. The group saw Sayaka and Kaoru run in. Both of them stopped as soon as they got a view of the monster.
"Come at me, you bastard!" Kaoru yelled. She was angry and wanted something to take her anger out on. The fall of many Toji, the destruction of several schools, not being with the other four Toji, and most importantly, she missed Ellen.
The Ubistvo did the unthinkable next. It faced Kaoru and Sayaka. It jumped towards them, chainsaw arm in attacking position. Everyone else panicked that this would be the end of both of them. Timing the attack, Kaoru swung her large okatana and sliced off the chainsaw arm. The attack caused the monster to fall to the floor. Sayaka stepped back a bit. As it yelled in pain, Kaoru lifted her okatana and struck it down, slicing the Ubistvo in half. She separated the upper and lower half. After a few moments, it stopped moving.
"That was violent," Suzuka said as she had a hand over her heart.
"I know we'll come across more of those and if not, worse," Maki said. She went over to look at the deceased creature. She knelt down to look at the chainsaw. No motor or anything. How did the chainsaw function? Why and how did smoke come out of it? How were its organs inside the 'ribs' of the chainsaw? It had a heart, lungs, and other organs a human has. It was enough evidence to suggest that this was once a person. Who would volunteer to take part in such an ugly transformation?
"Let's go. We'll report what we saw," Kaoru said as she started walking away. This was too much for any Toji to handle. Sometimes they questioned how they were still alive. They know things are going to get messier.
Somewhere in a forest near Renpu, a burial site has been dug open. The grave was empty.
Note: That's the end of chapter 8. When will Kaoru meet up with Ellen? What's she been up to all this time? What was that last part about?
