Chapter VIII
The Beginning of the End
Yawning I stretched groaning softly when I felt my back pop as I slowly sat up grabbing my phone off the nightstand my eyes widen in surprise when I found that it wasn't two in the morning like it normally was in fact it was five in the morning smiling I quickly got up went to the restroom then, got dressed before quickly making lunch for me and Izuku. Once I finished Miss Midoriya woke up followed closely by Izuku.
"Well you seem to be in a good mood this morning, were you able to contact your parents?" Asked Miss Midoriya as I placed Izuku's Bento in his bookbag, my smile that I held faded for a second as I stared into the bag. "I'm sorry dear maybe they are just super busy." She said as she placed a gentle hand on my shoulder, making me look up at her.
"It's alright right now I shouldn't be focused on that but my studies." I quickly said forcing my smile to return to my face as I placed my Bento in my bag as well wondering if you actually eat anything, shaking my head I grabbed both bags as Izuku was leaving his room fully dressed putting my shoes on I handed Izuku his bag as soon as he finished putting his shoes on, just like that we were off to school, well the train station then to school.
"You ready for school?" Izuku asked, raising an eyebrow as I walked with my head held high, my hair up in a high ponytail, the end reaching to the center of my back smiling. I looked down at him then straight ahead.
"Surprisingly yes I am ready for school, I wonder what today will have in store," I said smiling as we reached the school, thankful that the media wasn't there. When we got inside Izuku had gone with Uraraka and Tenya, while I waited for Kirishima.
"Hey Mara, how are you, you look a lot better than you have in a couple of days. No nightmares?" Kirishima asked, making me smile as I looked at him, then nodded my head.
"Nope, no nightmares, in fact, I didn't have a single dream last night just void," I said as we started to walk to class following behind Kaminari. When we reached the classroom, my eyes darted to Shoto's desk, a small frown took shape on my lips as I watched as he looked up his eyes narrowing slightly before he returned to the book in his hands. Huffing softly, I moved to sit at my desk tapping Shoto's desk in a form of greeting before sitting down, waiting for Mr. Aizawa to walk in.
"Everyone settle down, class is about to begin." Tenya shouted as Mr. Aizawa walked in looking tired as ever, he walked over to the podium, took roll then began homeroom. To say that school went by fast was in understatement, during lunch I decided to stay in the classroom to work on the sketch of that lady from a couple of nights ago. For some reason, my nerves were starting to get to me as I placed the drawing in my bag and started on some of the homework that had been given. Unlike when I was back in America where I would slack off for lack of better terms I know that I need to be one step ahead of the crowd here, for risk of being kicked out. Mr. Aizawa walked into the classroom with a frown on his face as he looked overseeing me before he walked to the desk waiting for the rest of the class to file in.
"Today's training will be a little different, you'll have three instructors. Me, All Might, and another faculty member will be keeping tabs on you." Mr. Aizawa said as he walked up to the podium his eyes staring blankly at the other wall while the class gasped.
"Sir! What kinda training is this?" Asked the student that sat in front of Shoto with his handheld high in the air, all was quiet for a second then Mr. Aizawa pulled out a card with blue letters on it saying.
"Rescue. You'll be dealing with natural disasters, shipwrecks, stuff like that." Mr. Aizawa said I looked towards the door crossing my arms over my chest as several students were mumbling to themselves. "Guys, I'm not finished yet. What you wear in this exercise is up to you. I know you're excited about costumes..." he said pressing a button causing the columns of costumes to slowly appear. "But keep in mind that you haven't gotten used to them yet, and they might limit your abilities. This special training is in an off-campus facility so we will be taking a bus to get there that's all so get ready." Mr. Aizawa said as he left the classroom while the students stood up and quickly went to grab their costumes, standing up I walked to grab my case then left to the locker room quickly changing, before walking outside. I noticed that Shoto was sitting down on a bench away from the rest of the crowd, slowly I walked up to him. Freezing when Shoto looked up at me.
"Hey Shoto, how are you?" I questioned reaching my hands up, grabbing my scarf, and pulled it up to cover my face, as I watched Shoto's frown deepen slightly. "I hope you didn't get in trouble last night," I mumbled lowly as I looked at the ground.
"No, I didn't." Shoto said as he stood up, "though you did make an impression on my father, that I don't like." He grumbled lowly, I opened my mouth to say something but the sound of a whistle from near the bus made me jump my head snapping to the person, only to relax when I realized that it was only Tenya.
"Gather around class 1-A, using your student numbers from two deep lines so we can board the bus efficiently," Tenya shouted then blew his whistle twice this caused my eyes to roll as I looked at Shoto with a faint smile before turning and walking to the bus. When we got onto the bus I bit back a chuckle when I realized that the bus had an open layout in the front, ignoring the front of the bus I walked to the back of the bus and sat down, near the window looking out of the window.
I watched as the rest of the students boarded the bus. Pulling out my phone I plugged in my headphones and started to play soft music in hopes of claiming my nerves closing my eyes I shut everything out as I leaned back against the seat. When I felt the bus come to a stop, I opened my eyes, wincing when I felt the tense air. Standing up I waited until everyone was off before I got off saying a quick 'thanks' to the driver, who grunted in response. My eyes snapped to the person standing in front of the building, as I got off the bus, who was that person? I wondered as I went to stand at the back of the class.
"I can't wait to show you what's inside." The astronaut women said quickly turning and walking inside, with the class following. The building was giant on the outside but when we walked inside, we all gasped in surprise at the size on the inside. It was massive my jaw dropped for a while as I followed the class.
"Where does UA find the money to do this? This place reminds me of disaster city." I mumbled lowly as my eyes scanned over the different areas.
"Holy crap it looks like an amusement park," Kirishima said in awe, as we came to a stop at the top of a large staircase, the astronaut stopped walking.
"A shipwreck, a Land slid, a Fire, a Windstorm, etc. I created this training fiscality to prepare you to deal with different types of disasters, I call it the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, but you can call it the USJ." She said turning around and stuck a pose, as Mr. Aizawa walked up to her with his hands in his pocket.
"Hey, shouldn't All Might be here already? Let me guess he booked an interview instead." He asked as the female straightened up speaking softly, she held up three figures making me frown in confusion for a second, as I watched Mr. Aizawa sigh softly. "clocks ticking we should get started."
"Excellent, before we began, let me just say one thing well maybe two things possibly three, listen carefully I'm sure you're aware that I have a powerful quirk it's called black hole. I can use it to suck up anything and turn it into dust." She said
"Yeah you've used black hole to save all kinds of people from disasters before haven't you," Izuku said while Uraraka started to nod her head rapidly.
"That's true, but my quirk can also be used to kill." The astronaut said making everyone freeze for a second. "Some of you have powers that can also be dangerous in our superhuman society all quirks are curtifity and instrugently regulated so we often overlook how unsafe they can actually be, please don't forget that if you lose focus or make the wrong move your powers can be deadly, even if virtuous like rescue someone. Thanks to Aizawa's fitness tests you have a solid idea of your quirks potential, and because of All Might's combat training, you likely experienced how dangerous your powers can be when used against other people carry those lesions over to this class. Today you're going to learn how to use your quirks to save people's lives, you won't be using your powers to attack enemies or each other only to help. After all, that's what being a hero is about ensuring the safety of others. That's all I have to say thank you for listening." The women said causing the class to erupt into cheers.
"Right." Mr. Aizawa said gathering the class's attention, as a bolt of electricity shot through the building destroying the lights, making the class pause. Everyone turned to look at the fountain in the center of the building as a dark almost black purple vortex started to appear growing large and large until it shot out a created a wall as hundreds of villains walked through. My body froze in place, it was the vortex from my dreams Mr. Aizawa turned around facing us.
"Stay together, and don't move Thirteen protect the students." He said as he pulled his goggles on, 'he wasn't really about to fight all of those villains?' I questioned as images of my dreams flashed through my head, making my heart pound in my ear. "Stay back. This is real those are villains." Aizawa shouted snapping me from my thoughts, as I watched Izuku and Kirishima flinch stepping backward.
Looking back to the portal my blood ran cold when I saw them, the man from my dreams and Nomu. "No" I mumbled breathlessly felling eye on me I turned to see Shoto looking at me with a neutral face we both nodded or heads knowing full well that there would be no staying back.
"All Might should be here as well." A deep voice spoke sending shivers up my spine.
"So, you scumbags used the press as a cover to sneak on to campus." Mr. Aizawa said
"Where is he? I went through the trouble of bringing so many friends who're eager to meet him, they want All Might the great symbol of peace, maybe if I kill a few kids he'll come out to play." That voice made my blood run cold it was the man from my dreams, the man that killed my brother.
"What real villains. No way how could so many of them get into a UA facially this secure?" Kirishima asked
"Yeah Thirteen, why are the alarms going off," Momo asked
"Good question, I'm not sure." Thirteen answered
"Is the entire campus is under attack? Or is this their only target either way if the alarm sensors aren't triggered then one of these villains must have a quirk that's masking their presents here. They carefully chose this isolated facility as an entry point at a time when a class was being taught, they're fools for trespassing here, but they've thought this out whatever they have planned they must have a concrete objective in mind but what is it?" Shoto explained with determination in his voice that gave me the fuel to fight.
"Thirteen, get them outta here and alert the main campus. Actually, if they've got the ability to block our sensors, then they might be jamming our regular commutations too, Kaminari, try using your Quirk to contact the school." Mr. Aizawa said looking over his shoulder at said student.
"Yes sir," Kaminari said then frowned and shook his head telling us that he couldn't.
"What are you gonna do? You can't fight them on your own! There's too many of 'em, even if you can nullify their quirks your fighting styles not suited for this your power works best in stealth and one-on-one fights. That's not gonna help with a group." Izuku said in defeat as he looked down on the ground.
"You can't be a pro if you have only one trick, I'll leave it to you thirteen." Mr. Aizawa said as he quickly jumped into action, making a small gasp escaped my lips as I watched him jump straight into the group of villains much like what I did when I protected that woman in the alleyway.
"This is no time to be analyzing we have to go," Tenya shouted making me frown as I looked at him then to Izuku that stood next to me, we both turned and followed after the group towards the exit. Gasps of fear came across the class when a large purple portal appeared in-between the exit and us.
"There is no escape for you." The deep voice from before sounded through the portal as the mist started to take place. "It's a pleasure to meet you we are the league of villains I know it's impolite but we decided to invite our self into this heaven of justice to say hello and besides isn't this a fitting place for All Might to take his last breath I believe he was supposed to be here today and yet I see no sign of him there must've been some change of plans we could not have foreseen ah well, in the end, it doesn't matter I still have a role to play." He monologed allowing for Bakugo and Kirishima to jump and attack the villain but the attack did nothing to them.
"Did you think we were just gonna stand around while you tear this place to shreds?" Asked Kirishima as they both took a fighting stance, we watched in slight horror as the mist that was dispersed by Bakugo's expulsions slowly started to reform into a humanish shape.
"You live up to your school's reputation, but you should be more careful children otherwise someone might get hurt." The man spoke sounding almost condescending towards the two.
"You two get out of the way." Thirteen shouted, she was ready to attack with her quirk, but before she could attack the villain a dome of the mist vortex surrounded us.
"I'll scatter you across this facility to meet my comrades and your death." The air was almost suffocating I covered my face as the harsh wind pushed past my body. Letting out a loud squeak of surprise when I felt something wrap its arms around my waist pulling me away from the vortex. When the vortex disappeared, I gasped seeing several students missing while only a couple appeared before me. Looking to my savior, frowning I slowly stood up my hand grasping the gloved hand of Thirteen.
"Thanks," I mumbled softly when she stood up, she gently placed a hand on my shoulder.
"It's what a hero does." She said as her hand on my shoulder tightened pulling me behind her back.
"Hey, Tenya where did the others go?" Asked Uraraka as I watched the other students holding in their breath.
"Let me see if I can find them," Shoji said as he spread out his arms changing them to ears.
"Shoji, Got them? Anything? where is everyone?" Tenya asked
"They've been scattered across the facility, but our classmates are still here," Shoji stated causing every to breathe a sigh of relief.
"What do we do, the guys not affected by physical attacks and can appearity can teleport stuff?" Sero said sounding confused.
"Class rep, I have a job for you, run to the school and tell the faculty what's going on here. The alarms aren't sounding and our phones and radios are useless right now, one of the villains must be to blame even though Eraserhead is canceling peoples quirks left and right, we're still completely sealed off from the rest of the world, likely the one who is causing the interference hid as soon as they warped into the USJ they could be anywhere impossible to hunt down it'll be faster for you to run and get help then for us to find whoever's jamming everything." Thirteen said looking towards Tenya then took up an inexperienced style fighting stance.
"Yes, but it would be disgraceful for me to leave you all behind" Tenya said sounding worried.
"Go emergency exit, there are lots of alarms outside that's why they are keeping all of us trapped inside the USJ right." Sato said taking up a fighting stance
"As long as you can get outside, they won't follow blow this bastard mist away with those engine legs!" Sero said taking up a fighting stance next to Sato
"Use your quirk to save others be a real hero." Thirteen ordered
"I can help you out just like when I helped you float in the cafeteria." Uraraka shouted hoping to be helpful.
"Even if this is your only option are you really foolish enough to strategize in front of your enemy?" The villain said making a small growl escaped my lips.
"It won't matter if you know what were planning or not when I'm through with you. Black Hole." Thirteen shouted.
"Ah Black Hole, the quirk that sucks up matter and turns it into dust, such an astounding power however you're a rescues hero skilled at saving others from disasters, consequently that means you have little fighting experience and battle filled awareness." The Villain said, my eyes widened when I noticed a portal appear in front of the villain and a small one slowly started to appear in.
"She isn't the only one your fighting." I snarled as I flared out my wings changing them to metal slamming them into the creating a metal barrier in an attempted to protect the hero that saved my life.
"You brat." Snarled the mist man as a portal appeared underneath me, I gasped in surprise as I was sucked through the portal into darkness.
When the darkness disappeared, light filled my vison blinding me for a second as I felt like I was falling. When my vision appeared, I gasped in surprise seeing that I was above Mr. Aizawa's fight. Stretching my wings out to slow my fall as I land behind Mr. Aizawa, backing into his back.
"Sorry for dropping in." I said getting into a fighting stance, "I hope you don't mind me staying for a while?" I questioned lowly but it was more of a statement then a question.
"You shouldn't be here." Mr. Aizawa said under his breath in-between huffs.
"You!" Shouted a Villain making both our heads snapped to my left, my eyes widen when I saw one of the Villains from alleyway, smashing his fist together they sound just like they once did in the alley way, metal hitting metal. "I spent the night in that cell, I'm gonna get you back for that." Metal fist snarled lowly.
"So, Rune, you gonna show him?" Mr. Aizawa questioned I tensed up huffing out a small breath, I could hear the smirk in his voice.
"For your information in never used my Quirk against them." I stated turning to look at Mr. Aizawa out of the corner of my eye, seeing his smirk dropped into a frown as his hair flared up.
"We will discuss this later Rune." He said as he jumped forward attacking a couple of Villains, while I jumped backward avoiding the Metal Fist that flew at me, he growled lowly as he swung with his left fist, rolling my eyes not really having time to focus on a single person, I folding my wings back I ran towards him doing a back hand spring that ended with a twist upon the end of the twist, I kicked his jaw knocking him out. Moving my goggles to cover my eyes I spread my wings taking off into the sky, just like I had done before during the entrance exam, twisting my wings forward causing several metal feathers to shoot out, penning several of the Villains to the ground.
"Well that takes care of them. For now." I mumbled softly as I landed back on the ground, quickly I dodged a punch sending a quick jam to their ribs, then slammed my foot down against their kneecap. The Villain screamed out in pain rolling my eyes I let him drop to the ground, as I moved to the next Villain waiting for my feather to grow back.
I let out huff as I down yet another Villain, between flipping while also using my wings for shields. Turing to see who the teacher was doing my eyes widen in fright when he both he and the man from my dreams charged at each other.
"Hey, keep your head in the fight." Shouted a Villain turning to side I blocked the Villains leg moving underneath his leg and set several punches starting from their hip going all the way up to their shoulder, finishing with a punch to their neck. My eyes looking over to see Aizawa backed away panting softly.
"That annoying Quirk of yours isn't suited for drawn-out fights against big groups, is it?" The man from my dream said to him as he started to stand up from the ground. "Don't you think you're a little out of your element Eraserhead, you're much better at working stealthily you're known for surprise attacks not head-to-head. But despite knowing that, you didn't hesitate to jump into the middle of this fight to put your students at ease." The man said making me snarl softly as I moved closer to Aizawa. "Look at you you're still standing! you really are so cool, on by the way hero I'm not the final boss." He added as Nomu walked up to Aizawa.
"Eraserhead!" I shouted in fear as I flew towards the creature, in hopes of preventing my dream form coming true. Nomu turned around and back handed me knocking the widen out of my lungs, I wasn't out of the fight just yet as I shot my right wing of metal feather at the Nomu. Preventing giving a small window as Aizawa turned around and activated his Quirk. Landing roughly on the ground I grunted softly when I felt my wings become pinned while someone placed their weight on my back a hand wrapped around my neck.
"You are annoying girl." Snarled the man from my dreams "When Eraserhead is dead you will be next, then the Symbol of Peace." He laughed darkly, I tried to move but whoever was on my back head to have a strength Quirk as the more a struggled the less I could move.
"Mr. Aizawa!" I shouted in horror watching as Nomu crushed his bones and slammed his head into the ground. "NO!" I screamed out a fire within my gut sparked pushing off the ground I grunted when I felt my bones protest, raising my wings I felt the weight that was on them leave. Flapping them once was enough force to push the man off of my back. Taking off at a sprint towards the Nomu, gaining enough speed to fly low to the ground, I roared out in rage when I felt my body impact the Nomu. It wasn't enough force to knocking him back but enough to keep him focused on me. The creature growled out lowly dropping Mr. Aizawa's head replacing it with my neck.
"No don't kill her." The man from my dream said with a dark chuckle. "Rip her wings off. That will remove her ability to be annoying." He snarled softly smirking when he noticed the fear in my eyes. I kicked at the Nomu's face flaring my wings out, in a desperate attempt to get away, which failed when I felt large hands grip at the base of my wings causing a pained yelp to escape lips.
My eyes snapped to Aizawa when he groaned softly his hair flaring out in an attempt to save me. Only the Nomu pulled harder, the sound of tearing followed by bones breaking filled the area followed by a scream, my scream. Tears streamed down my face when I no longer felt to weight of my wings, my ears catching the sound of heavy metal hitting the ground next to me. I closed my eyes refusing to look down, the pain was blinding. The hand that held my neck released it, making me clasp onto the ground next to Mr. Aizawa as I felt a brush of wind move past me. Slowly I opened my eyes though they were blurry I could make out no shadow that loomed over us, slowly I turned my head to see Nomu in front of Izuku. Placing a hand on the ground I tried to stand up "No." I muttered pushing past the searing pain as much as I could until I felt my spine tense up to the point where I clasped back onto the ground, onto something warm and wet.
My eyes slowly closed everything blurred out when I opened them finding that a red pool was starting to form underneath my body. That's all I could make out through my blurry vision, as my eyes closed once again. Feeling my body become weightless, I fought against the darkness that threated to take me, I still need to fight, I still need to protect those around me. For some reason the women's face from the alleyway appeared in my mind, she spoke something that I couldn't make out, even with in my mind she blurred in and out. 'Please, I don't want to die.' I cried out as I lost the fight with the darkness, when it felt like I was being wrapped in a warm blanket, my mind succumbing to the void.
