Chapter 7 - It snowed on the Rose
The night has passed, and it was now Sunday. The day in which Ruby was supposed to have a 'movie date' with Weiss. And just like on Saturday, Ruby was tutored by Weiss a little in the morning before they could leave'
And just before the two were about to leave for their date, Yang jokingly shouted from the back.
"You should bring my sis back my eight Ice Queen!"
"Ugh, Yaaaang!"
Ruby shouted in protest, but Yang only gave her a typically goofy grin.
"Okay, whatever."
Weiss said as she groaned. Why was she being so extra when it came to Ruby? It was almost annoying at this point. Ruby and Weiss left and Yang sighed as she flopped back onto her bed.
"You seem to be enjoying this situation quite much."
Blake asked out of curiosity. I mean, Yang was the type to surely find this type of situation funny and all that, but she was starting to get on Ruby's nerves now.
"Come on. Isn't it cute? And funny?"
"Not really."
"Aw Blake! Didn't you see how Weiss glared at her sister yesterday? And heck, she's like head over heels to Winter."
"Well..."
"I feel like things are gonna get funnier."
"You're so weird."
"Aw, you don't get it."
"I sure am glad that I don't get it."
Yang laughed and decided to take a nap to kill the time. After all, it wasn't like she could stalk them or anything like that for the fun. ... Or she could, but thankfully she decided not to do so.
~ Out in the street of City of Vale ~
Ruby and Weiss decided that they'll grab something to eat before they went to the movie. They didn't have their lunch yet after all.
"Weiss, anything you'd like to eat other than apples?" Ruby teased.
"I'd like something that is healthier than cookies," Weiss replied.
"That's a good come back."
Ruby awed and started to look around in an attempt to find a good(and cheap) restaurant to eat in.
"We'll get something not too filling for lunch since we will be grabbing snacks at the movie as well."
"Oh, right. I need to save up the spot in my stomach for popcorn!"
Ruby cheered as she continued to look around. When Ruby found the small cafe that she and Weiss pay often visit, she started to drag Weiss to the cafe.
"Then we should get a sandwich!"
"What about my opinion?"
"I know that your opinion is to agree with me."
"What-who says so?!"
"I do! Come on, Weiss!"
Eventually, Weiss gave up on trying to argue with Ruby(mostly because Ruby didn't bother listening to her) and headed to the cafe. They both ordered a sandwich and took a seat by the windows.
"So Ruby, how was it with Winter yesterday?"
"Huh? Oh, it was good! I was surprised to find out that she reserved a seat for us though!"
"She did?"
"Yup! She said that she had her ways. I didn't know what she meant at first, but..."
Ruby trailed off, not finishing her sentence. However, it was pretty obvious what she was trying to say. Winter was the firstborn daughter of the Schnee. Even though she did not like to be part of the family in a way, people still feared her family status. And Weiss found that pretty strange. Winter Schnee, never enjoyed using her family name to get anything. Not even for herself. So why now was she using it to spend the day with Ruby? Weiss tapped the floor with her foot out of irritation, but soon sighed and decided that she wasn't going to think about that for today. She was supposed to be having a 'movie date' with Ruby today after all.
"Anyways, the movie starts at two. We have about one hour and a half."
The two ate as they talked mostly about school, training, and whatnot. When they were done with their food, they still had about forty-five minutes to kill before they started heading to the theatre. So they decided to go to the park to simply take a walk. What Ruby liked to do during her free time.
"Oh, Weiss."
"Hmm?"
"Why did you suggest that we should go watch the movie together? Not that I don't appreciate it or anything, you usually don't ask me to. So I was just wondering."
"Oh, that-well..." Weiss hesitated as she looked down at the tip of her shoes. "I... I don't know. Just thought why not. You've been keeping up good with my tutoring, so it's kind of like a rewarding day I guess." Weiss explained as she turned her head sideways so Ruby couldn't see her face.
But didn't she also treat Ruby on sweats as well? Ruby wondered but decided not to question. She wasn't about to complain anyway.
They simply walked and talked until it was time they had to start heading to the theatre. They got a bag of large popcorns and two cokes. Weiss protested that she didn't want to drink Coke, but ruby got her a coke anyway by saying "You should get a coke when you're at the theatre! You can't get something that rich people drink here!". She settled with a diet coke.
"Let's go, Weiss!"
"Don't talk so loud in the theatre, you dolt!"
Weiss and Ruby took a seat right beside each other. The movie they were watching was comic-action. Ruby started to eat the popcorn even before the ads came up. If Weiss hadn't stopped her, she would have all of it even before the ads were on.
The two focused on the screen when the movie started. Ruby was amazed by all the actions and the cgs of the movie. On the other hand, Weiss was looking at the side of Ruby's face every once in a while, not focusing on the movie.
Weiss has been feeling funny around her partner ever since. She really couldn't point out when and why she started feeling this way towards Ruby. She felt flattered and flustered around Ruby. Whenever Ruby clung to her, calling her a 'BFF', she would feel shy but also happy at the same time. She also felt a little heart-broken for some reason.
If anyone was to hear this, they would surely declare that Weiss was crushing on Ruby. But Weiss refused to admit her crush on Ruby for a while. Her pride didn't let her do so. Weiss Schnee, the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company crushing on a girl two years younger than her that's on the same team? She couldn't accept it. But eventually, she did have to accept the fact that she had a crush on Ruby. It wasn't so long that she could lie to herself for too long. If she didn't have a crush on Ruby, then why would she feel so heartbroken whenever Ruby called her her 'BFF'? It didn't make any sense.
Of course, it wasn't like she could go straight on tell Ruby or others about her feelings, but the point is, that she has finally adapted to the change and decided to settle with it. And guess what? Almost as soon as Weiss decided to accept her cute feelings towards her team leader, her sister came in. At first, she was happy that she will be able to see her sister more often for the year. And she felt jealous of Ruby. Why was Winter spending more time with Ruby but not me? But the jealousy soon was headed towards her sister. The more and more Ruby spent her free time with Winter, Weiss' opportunity to be with Ruby decreased dramatically. Weiss got a feeling that Winter was trying to take Ruby away from her. Of course, that wasn't the case but that's what jealousy did to her.
The movie was over, but sadly, Weiss didn't remember any details of the movie. So when Ruby started to talk about the movie, Weiss could only nod and answer briefly, pretending that she was paying attention While Ruby blabbed about the movie, the only thing that Weiss could think of was Winter's intention in being so close to Ruby. If Winter was trying to go out with Ruby or anything, then she was surely ready to put up a fight with her for sure. Even if it was against her dear sister.
"-iss! Weiss! Are you listening?"
"Huh? Oh, sorry. I was just... thinking."
"About what? Did you not like the movie?"
"No, the movie was good. It's nothing important. Don't worry about it." Weiss smiled.
"Uhh, okay. But if anything's wrong, remember that you can always talk to me!"
Ruby declared with her fist clenched and Weiss smiled at her. Now she finally remembered why she started to have a crush on Ruby. Ruby was the one who just came into her life so suddenly without permission and changed her life. In a good way, of course. She rarely felt lonely after meeting Ruby and felt that she could always turn to her when something went wrong.
"As I said, it's nothing. But thanks."
'I will not let her take that away from me.' Weiss vowed to no one but to herself for her goods.
"Okay then... So Weiss! What else are we doing? Do we have a plan?"
"Not really. Do you have anything you'd like to do?"
"Anything's fine with you! But, uh let's see... If you don't have a plan... then maybe we can go eye shopping!"
"Sure."
Ruby and Weiss headed to the mall nearby, and Weiss checked the time so she wouldn't return Ruby after eight as Winter did. She didn't want any other bad jokes from Yang.
After shopping, (yes they ended up buying a thing or two unlike they first intended) they grabbed dinner at a nearby restaurant. The dinner there wasn't the most expensive or the fanciest food in Remnant, but Weiss knew that Ruby preferred these kinds of foods over the fancy ones. Though, even if Ruby did like fancy foods, Weiss wouldn't be able to impress her after Winter taking her out. So she settled with some cheap, but tasty foods.
"I'll pay for the food."
"What? But you also paid for the movie today! I can't let you do that!"
"Well... I do have more money than you."
"Still no! I'm paying for dinner today."
Ruby declared with a straight face. It looked like she'd almost get upset if Weiss ended up paying for their food. This was another thing that Weiss liked about Ruby. Unlike some other students in Beacon that approached Weiss only in an attempt to get something out of her, Ruby didn't rely on Weiss financially. Sure, Weiss always ended up paying a little more than Ruby when they went out, but Ruby tried to keep the pays as fair as much as she could. It was only natural for Weiss to pay more, considering her family name and how much lien she owns. But Ruby did not take any advantage of it more than necessary. That was just the kind of a girl she was. It didn't matter how wealthy you were, Ruby always tried to be fair to them.
"... Alright then."
Weiss complied, knowing that Ruby wouldn't give in to her. Ruby cheered with a smile and they enjoyed their dinner at a loud restaurant. The food wasn't so fancy, and the restaurant wasn't as ornate or quiet as the restaurant Ruby had lunch with Winter yesterday, but they enjoyed it.
~ Beacon Academy, hallway ~
Weiss was able to come back to their dorm before eight. Hopefully, Yang wouldn't be too mad that they barely made it. Weiss checked the time on her scroll one last time while they walked down the hallway. 7:52 P.M. Great. Just on time.
When they opened the door and walked into the room, they were greeted by Yang sitting on the chair, playing a game on her scroll.
"Yo. You girls had fun?"
"Yup! The movie was really good!"
"That's good to hear."
The two started a conversation as soon as Ruby was back in her room.
Weiss just quietly headed to the bathroom to take a shower. Weiss was relieved that they were back before eight. Because if they hadn't, then Yang's never-ending jokes and teasing would have been awaiting them.
It was a long, but also a short day for both Ruby and Weiss.
A/N. Sorry for the late update! I actually had to rewrite the whole chapter because I was being stupid and accidentally deleted it before I could post it. So it took me a while to rewrite one as I tried not to flip my table.
