Thursday Afternoon at the SBPD

It was 4:45 in the afternoon on Thursday and Juliet was getting her stuff ready to go.

Carlton came around the corner and sat down in the chair next to her desk.

"Yes Carlton?" Juliet asked.

"My wife invited you and your husband to dinner tonight." Carlton grumbled.

Juliet bent down and smiled, "I'm sorry, what was that?"

"You and your husband are invited to our house tonight for dinner."

"Sure. What time?"

"7:30?"

"Perfect. How's that little girl of yours?"

"A handful, you sure you ready for that?"

Juliet smiled, "I live with Shawn Spencer."

Carlton laughed, "You do have a point. I'll see you later."

"See you."

Juliet put her purse on her shoulder and shut down her computer. She pushed in her desk chair and walked out of the SBPD.

Juliet got in her car and drove to the Psych office to see Shawn.

Shawn

Shawn was in the storage closet finding something.

Juliet walked in and heard a crash. She put her purse down on Shawn's desk and went and found Shawn.

"What are you doing?" Juliet asked.

Shawn grabbed something out of a box and showed Juliet.

Juliet took the blanket from Shawn, "What's this?"

"A blanket." Shawn said.

"I know that. Why do you have it?"

"My grandma made that for me for when I was brought home from the hospital."

"You kept it all this time?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"I don't know. I didn't know I was going to get married and have a kid, but I'm glad I grabbed it."

Juliet sat down next to Shawn and gave him a kiss.

"This is sweet." Juliet said.

"You think our kid will like it?" Shawn asked.

Juliet looked at Shawn and nodded.

"See and it's yellow too, so it can be either for boy or a girl." Shawn mentioned.

"I see that." Juliet said.

Shawn put his head on Juliet's shoulder and sighed.

"What's wrong baby?" Juliet whispered.

"Just been a long day." Shawn said.

"Really?"

"Yeah. My dad came by and that was awkward. Then I got a weird case in my email, it's been crazy."

"What's the case?"

"A shooting on 18th and 45th that happened last weekend. A girl's parents emailed me asking me to take it on."

"We did that case earlier this week. It was cut and dry."

"I think so too, but the parents want some information. Now that I'm about to become a dad, I kinda understand."

"Well if you have any questions, I have the answers."

"I live with a textbook of answers to everything."

"You do. Now Mr. Spencer, get your car and go home. We have to go to Lassiter's tonight for dinner."

"I'm sorry what?"

"Oh yeah. I was almost out the door and he came and sat down at my desk and told me that Marlowe invited us over tonight."

"Oh joy!"

Juliet laughed.

"Get up bub." Juliet said.

Shawn stood up and shoved everything else in the closet, the stuff piled out of the door and it was hard to shut. Shawn backed up and shut the door with his shoulder and it closed.

"That's gonna be fun to clean up when that door is opened." Juliet said.

"It's never going to get opened ever." Shawn said.

"Ok."

Juliet grabbed her purse and put Shawn's baby blanket in it and walked to her car.

Shawn was 30 feet behind her. He turned around and locked the office up and went over to Juliet's car.

"What time do we have to be there?" Shawn asked.

"I told him 7:30." Juliet answered.

"It's 5:30 now."

"I know."

Shawn pulled Juliet into a hug, "You know I love you right?"

"Really? I thought we just got married for the hell of it."

"Ha ha."

"No, but I love you too. I'll see you at home?"

"Yep. Do we need to bring anything?"

"I'm not dealing with that."

"Good. I love you."

Juliet kissed Shawn and got in her car and drove home.

Shawn opened his car door and a stray dog jumped in the car.

"What are you doing?" Shawn asked.

The puppy looked at Shawn and laid down in the driver's seat.

Shawn picked the puppy up and got in the car and drove home. He got home and went inside and saw Juliet getting ready.

Juliet unzipped her dress and saw Shawn in the mirror.

Juliet turned around and saw Shawn holding a puppy.

"Why do you have a puppy?" Juliet asked.

"This little dude jumped in the car." Shawn said.

"I'm guessing he doesn't have a collar."

"Nothing. I tried everything."

"Did you?"

"I actually drove straight home."

"You what?"

"Jules someone will come looking for him. I'm putting up flyers tomorrow."

"Ok. We are going to have to put him in the guest bath until we get back."

"I'm so glad that's unfinished right now."

"Why?"

"Puppies are crazy Jules."

"Yes they are."

Shawn put the puppy on the bed.

The puppy walked on the bed for a second and then curled up in a ball on Shawn's pillow and closed his eyes.

Juliet looked at the dog and looked back at Shawn.

"What?" Shawn asked.

"Don't put those flyers up tomorrow." Juliet said.

"Why not?"

"He's not a stray, he literally got dropped off at the boardwalk and has been there for several days."

"How do you know this?"

"You're not the only one who's observant in this house."

"You think so?"

"Yeah. I've never seen a dog tired like that."

"Ok. Well on the way home, we'll have to pick some stuff up."

"Sounds good."

Shawn made his way into the bathroom to take a quick shower.

While Shawn was in the shower, Juliet sat down on the be and started petting the puppy.

The puppy opened one eye and saw Juliet and got up and climbed in her lap.

"Hey there little guy." Juliet whispered.

Shawn came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. He saw Juliet petting the puppy.

"He's sweet isn't he?" Shawn asked.

"Yeah. What kind of dog is he?" Juliet asked.

"Rottweiler, just look at the size of his paws and his markings."

"You think we can handle a big dog?"

"Jules, we're about to become parents, of course we can handle this dog."

Juliet smiled, "The baby will already have a best friend waiting here at home."

Shawn smiled and pictured their baby crawling and the dog crawling with it and playing with it.

Shawn shook himself out of his trance and began to get dressed. He got dressed, went into the bathroom and did his hair.

Juliet put the puppy on her pillow and went into the bathroom to do her hair and put on perfume.

Shawn walked out of the bathroom and grabbed the puppy off Juliet's pillow and went to the guest bathroom.

"Please behave tonight little guy. We're just going to be gone a few hours. We'll even bring you some leftovers." Shawn whispered.

Juliet cleared her throat, "You ready?"

"Yeah."

Shawn shut the bathroom door and the puppy started howling.

"Oh great." Shawn mumbled.

"Let him cry it out." Juliet said.

"You better not do that to our kids."

"Shawn, they need to cry it out. It doesn't hurt them."

Shawn rolled his eyes and grabbed his keys. He opened the door to the garage and then opened the garage door.

They got in the car and drove to Lassiter's house.

Shawn pulled into Carlton's driveway at 7:15.

Juliet got out and went up to the door. She realized Shawn wasn't beside her halfway up the driveway.

Juliet turned around and saw Shawn just staring.

Juliet walked over to Shawn's door and opened it, "Spencer, come on."

Shawn looked at Juliet and Juliet saw sadness in his eyes.

"What's wrong with you?" Juliet asked.

"I don't know. I just got sad all of a sudden." Shawn whispered.

Juliet bent down and looked at Shawn, "Baby what's wrong?"

"I honestly don't know. I heard my grandma say something when you got out."

"What?"

"I swear to God Jules, it was her voice."

"What did it say?"

"I couldn't make it out, but it was her voice. It sounded like it was right in the backseat."

Juliet opened the back door and looked in it.

"Nothing is back here." Juliet said.

Juliet went back to Shawn, "You ok?"

Shawn grabbed Juliet's hand, "Yeah. Let's go."

Shawn got out of the car and locked it and went up the walkway.

They got to the front door and Juliet rang the doorbell.

A few seconds later Marlowe answered the door holding Lily.

"Juliet, how are you?" Marlowe asked.

"Good. How are you?" Juliet asked.

"Amazing, come on in."

Marlowe moved out of the doorway, so Shawn and Juliet could come in.

"Shawn how are you?" Marlowe asked.

"Good. How is Princess Lily?" Shawn asked.

"She's good. Do you want her?"

Shawn took Lily from Marlowe and walked around the room with her.

Juliet sat back and looked at Shawn and laughed when Lily's laughter filled the room.

Juliet made her way to the kitchen to greet Carlton.

"Hey Carlton." Juliet said.

Carlton turned away from the stove for a second, "Hey Juliet. Is your husband making my child laugh like that?"

"Yeah why?"

"She's never laughed like that before."

"Carlton she's only 8 months old."

"Still."

Juliet sat down at the counter watching Shawn play with Lily.

Marlowe came around the corner and saw Shawn and Lily playing, "He's good with her."

"He is. I never thought Shawn would be good with kids." Juliet said.

"So how excited are you two for the baby?"

"I'm only 15 weeks, but we picked names out the other night."

"Are they secret names?"

"Yeah. Well the name he picked is."

"What about yours?"

"If we have a girl, I'm naming her. Natalie Grace."

"Natalie Grace Spencer. It's cute."

"I thought so too. How's the little monster been?"

"Carlton or Lily?"

Juliet laughed, "Both."

"Well Carlton is in love with that human in there."

"Shawn?"

"Haha. The little girl that looks exactly like him."

"She looked exactly like you when she was younger."

"I know, kinda hurt my feelings. But Lily, amazing. she's crawling, which is keeping us on our toes."

"Oh I bet."

Shawn picked Lily up and went into the kitchen to visit.

Juliet saw Shawn carrying a sleeping Lily and smiled.

"She out?" Juliet whispered.

"Cold." Shawn whispered back.

"How are you?"

"Good. I can't wait until we have one of these."

Carlton turned the corner, "You want her?"

"I wish, but she looks just like you." Shawn said.

"Yeah she does. Marlowe hates it."

"She was just telling me that." Juliet added in.

"How are you feeling?" Carlton asked.

"Eh. Today was a rough day, but I have tomorrow and the weekend off, so I'm not complaining."

"You were hurting today?" Shawn asked.

"Yeah."

"Why didn't you call me?"

"Shawn, it was just cramps. I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

Juliet nodded.

"Spencer you're hovering." Carlton said.

"Lassie, I've always been extra careful with Jules. You know this."

Carlton nodded, "Do you know how annoying it is?"

"Yes I do, but I don't want my wife and the mother of my child to get hurt."

Juliet rubbed Shawn's back and smiled, "Shawn when have you ever known me to not be careful?"

"Never, but still."

Marlowe came around the corner with food dishes and put them on the table.

"Food's ready." Marlowe said.

Marlowe went up to Shawn and tried to grab Lily. Lily fussed when she was tugged out of Shawn's arms.

"I have an idea. Where's her backpack thing?" Shawn asked.

"You mean the chest piece?" Marlowe asked.

Shawn nodded.

Marlowe went into Lily's room and grabbed Lily's backpack thing.

"You're going to have to hold her, Juliet." Marlowe said.

"I'll try." Juliet said.

Juliet went over to Shawn and grabbed Lily, "Hey Lily, it's Juliet."

Lily curled into Juliet's shirt and stuck her thumb in her mouth.

"Ok, now I don't want to let her go." Juliet said.

Shawn smiled at Juliet and fell in love with her even more.

"I don't think I've ever loved you more than I do right now." Shawn said.

Juliet smiled at Shawn and kissed him.

"Ok, how am I going to eat?" Juliet asked.

"I'll feed you." Shawn said.

"Any other options?"

Shawn's jaw dropped.

"I'm kidding. I'm going to put Lily in her playpen in the living room."

Juliet went and put Lily in her playpen and covered her up. She made her way back to the kitchen table and sat down next to Shawn.

"No fuss?" Marlowe asked.

"Nope. I may have bribed her with ice cream." Juliet said.

"That's my wife!" Shawn exclaimed.

"Ice cream, O'Hara?" Carlton asked.

Juliet put her fork down and stared into Carlton's eyes.

"I'm sorry, I mean Juliet." Carlton said.

"Yeah, I bribe Shawn with ice cream all the time."

"What?" Shawn asked.

"You knew this goofball."

"I thought I was in trouble when I got ice cream instead of…"

Juliet's hand flew over Shawn's mouth to shut him up.

"Not another word." Juliet threatened.

Carlton chuckled at Juliet and Shawn.

Juliet removed her hand from Shawn's mouth.

"Thanks Jules." Shawn mumbled.

Juliet rolled her eyes and started eating.

Shawn got up and got him and Juliet a glass of water.

"You guys want anything?" Shawn asked.

"Nope." Carlton said.

Shawn walked back to the table and put the glasses in front of their plates.

"Thank you, love." Juliet said.

"Of course." Shawn said.

Everyone started eating and Carlton spoke.

"So how's the married life?" Carlton asked.

"It's amazing. I mean not much has changed, but I love it." Juliet said.

"Not much has changed? You're having a kid, that's a lot of change."

"Not much has changed right now. I still come home to Shawn every night like I've done for the past 4 years. We just have a house together."

"Shawn?"

"I love it. I love that woman next to me. I don't have to worry about her as much now." Shawn said.

"That is a good thing." Juliet said.

"You love it."

"Eh."

Juliet laughed.

"So, Marlowe, how's being a mom?" Juliet asked.

"It's my favorite job in the world." Marlowe said.

"Really?"

"Yeah, I love watching her grow everyday and I love hanging out with her."

"How long are you taking leave?" Carlton asked.

"I haven't even thought about that." Juliet said.

"Why not?"

"Carlton I'm only 15 weeks."

"Still you can still plan."

"Yeah with this baby, nothing is planned. It's Shawn's child."

"What's wrong with me?" Shawn asked.

"Nothing baby. You're just spontaneous and I love it."

Shawn was satisfied with Juliet's answer and smiled.

9:15

Shawn and Juliet were getting tired.

Juliet got up and grabbed her purse and grabbed Shawn's hand.

"Thank you so much for dinner tonight." Juliet said.

"Of course. We need to do to it more." Marlowe said.

"We do?" Carlton asked.

Marlowe elbowed Carlton.

"Ow."

"Hush."

"Thanks again."

"Of course. Drive safe."

Carlton shut the door and locked it.

Shawn and Juliet got in the car and drove home. They got out of the car and went inside.

Shawn went straight to the guest bathroom and saw the puppy sleeping.

"Jules." Shawn whispered.

Juliet looked at the bathroom and saw it was decent.

"Wow he did a good job." Juliet said.

Shawn went up to him and grabbed him.

When Shawn grabbed the puppy, the puppy went limp in Shawn's arms.

"No." Shawn said.

Juliet came around the corner and saw Shawn on the floor with the puppy.

"Baby…" Juliet said.

"He's gone Jules." Shawn whispered.

Juliet's eyes widened and went to console Shawn.

"Baby." Juliet said.

"He was just a puppy Jules." Shawn cried.

"I know."

"What if that was what my grandma was trying to tell me?"

"Tell you what?"

"To come check on the dog."

"I thought you couldn't decipher it."

"I couldn't. I was trying to put pieces together."

"Well the vet is still open."

Shawn sighed, "Let's go."

Shawn and Juliet got back in the car and drove to the vet.

Shawn got out of the car and went up to the entrance and waited on Juliet.

Juliet caught up to Shawn and grabbed his hand.

They walked in and were greeted by a teenager.

"Hi, how can we help you tonight?" the girl asked.

"Hey um, this stray dog hopped in my car earlier today. I took him home, we went to dinner with a couple of friends. We just got home and we found him like this." Shawn said.

The girl paged the vet on call.

The vet on call came and greeted Shawn and Juliet.

"Hey there, Dr. Brooks. Follow me." Dr. Brooks greeted.

Shawn and Juliet followed Dr. Brooks to an exam room.

Shawn put the puppy on the table and the vet took a look at him.

"What happened?" Dr. Brooks asked.

Shawn looked at Juliet hoping she would answer.

"That little guy hopped in my husband's car earlier today. He brought him home and he was fine. We left to go to dinner with some friends and were gone a couple of hours. When we got home we found him like this." Juliet said.

"Ok. I'm sorry." Dr. Brooks empathized.

Shawn nodded and got up.

"Thank you for your help." Juliet said.

"Of course. You two have a good evening." Dr. Brooks said.

Juliet nodded and grabbed Shawn's hand and they went back to the car.

Shawn got in the passenger seat and Juliet drove them home.

Juliet pulled into the garage and they went inside.

Shawn walked to the bedroom in a daze and crashed on the bed.

"Shawn, get ready for bed." Juliet whispered.

Shawn kicked his shoes off and took off his pants and unbuttoned his shirt and threw it in the corner and got under the covers.

Juliet went over to Shawn and took his watch off for him.

Juliet did her nightly routine and got in bed with Shawn and cuddled up to him.

"You ok, baby?" Juliet asked.

Shawn shrugged.

"I know."

"Do you Jules? Do you know? Shawn asked.

Shawn got out of bed and went out into the living room.

Juliet threw her head back against the pillow and sighed. She got out of bed and followed Shawn. She flicked the lights on and sat in front of Shawn.

"This is not your fault." Juliet said.

"How?" Shawn asked.

"We literally were not home for a couple of hours."

"I need to know if that was what my grandma was saying to me."

"How would you like to do that?"

"I think it's time to call in a real psychic."

"You're joking."

"No. I need to know, Jules."

"Come back to bed and we'll talk in the morning."

Shawn got up and took Juliet's hand and they went back to bed.

"Night Jules." Shawn said.

"Good night Shawn." Juliet said.

"Good night bump."

Juliet laughed at Shawn's good night to the baby.

Shawn kissed Juliet and then pulled her closer to him and kissed her neck.

"Don't ever leave me." Shawn whispered.

"I can't remember. I have that crazy glue all over me." Juliet said.

Shawn chuckled, "I love you so much sweetheart."

"I love you too."
