This AU follows Izuku Midoriya who never meets All Might or saves Bakugo from the sludge villain. He has grown through high school and still does not seem to have a quirk. Class 1-A and B have continued training and the LOV has proceeded to attack just like in the manga. However, everything that happens during the Overhaul arc has not occurred yet. The characters are just older and time has shifted. It's time to find out what Izuku's been up to all these years...
There will be OC's introduced, special chapters dedicated to other characters, but most of all, Izuku's journey to becoming a hero in his own way. I hope you enjoy it!
Chapter Eight: But He's Quirkless!
[TW: vomiting, minor self-harm]
Jun rushed out of the coffee shop, his heart beating wildly out of his chest.
The word "quirkless" repeated over and over in his head as he ran until he was out of breath and had to hide inside an alley to calm down.
How could he be quirkless? There's no way that's true. Was he onto me? Did he know I was there and lied to the sidekick to conceal his identity? Jun gnawed on his fingernails until he tasted blood. Ever since that idiot Midoriya had broken his record player, he had nothing to calm him down. He couldn't even go back to the League until Monday. So now his hands were all fucked up because he had chewed off most of his fingernails.
He slid to the floor, trying to keep his body from shaking.
At first, when he had seen Midoriya leave Masegaki earlier in the week while scouting the area, he figured he just didn't have a quirk. But as Jun got closer, he realized that he was different from the quirkless people he ran into. Their auras felt empty, while Midoriya's just felt… distant. Jun had never encountered someone like this before and it was throwing him off.
What if his quirk is a direct counter to mine? Like he can conceal his power? Or what if he's some kind of mind-reader and he already knows everything so he somehow hid his ability? Is that why he went to the police station that day? No, I don't even think he realized I was following him. Unless he did and that's why he was meeting up with Lemillion?
He clawed at his face anxiously. Damnit, I should've stayed close to them.
Jun normally had no issues following people, he did it all the time. But watching Izuku Midoriya made him feel naked. Even before he started working with the League, he always knew when to avoid dangerous situations because of his quirk. The right path to take, who to talk to, when to leave. Except now he was stuck.
He thought back to when he had almost attacked Midoriya after he broke his record player.
If I would have tried to kill him, would he have shown his quirk? Did I make the right decision? What if he's really dangerous? What if he already knows about the plan?
Dozens of questions crossed his mind and Jun felt the urge to vomit but no matter how far he stuck his hands down his throat, nothing came out. He hadn't been eating or sleeping since he started following Midoriya, worried that the boy would show his quirk when he wasn't paying attention.
But to hear him say he didn't have one… Jun didn't know if he should be terrified or relieved. There were just too many possibilities.
If he really thinks he's quirkless then I just have to kill him before he realizes the truth, Jun wiped at his mouth.
Originally, the plan had been just to search the area for powerful quirks. Shigaraki said they were going to start producing more Nomus in the coming months for their big plan to take down the Hassaikai. But Jun wasn't sure he could wait for Dabi and the others to start the destruction.
He had to do something, and fast. Otherwise, Izuku Midoriya would beat him to it.

Kai Chisaki. The man with the mask. The man that took Eri.
Izuku felt like someone had punched him in the stomach.
"You know about Eri?" he asked Mirio softly.
Mirio nodded. "We've been investigating the situation for a while now but haven't been able to do much, unfortunately."
Izuku let his head hang. What was he thinking? Even the heroes hadn't been able to do anything. There's no way he was going to be able to help.
"But now we have you!" Mirio grinned.
Izuku looked at him in confusion. "Me? But I already told you. I'm quirkless, remember?"
Mirio shrugged as the two crossed the street. "Yeah, and I said I don't care about that. None of us have been able to see Chisaki or Eri in person. Sir Night– I mean Mr. Sasaki was only able to do that because of his quirk. But you saw them, Midoriya. Don't you think it means something?"
"Means something? Other than the fact that I was just in the right place at the right time?" Izuku shook his head.
"Okay, fine. Maybe it was just a coincidence. But I know you care about her. If you didn't, you wouldn't have gone to the station and we would have never met. That tells me all I need to know about the kind of person you are, quirkless or not," Mirio finished.
They arrived in front of a park and Mirio sat down on the grass. Izuku stayed standing.
"You're wrong. It tells you nothing. As much as I care about Eri, I know where I stand in society. There's no way someone like me could help," Izuku mumbled. He had always dreamed about this moment. When a hero or sidekick came to him for help. But now that Mirio, now that Lemillion, was trying to do just that, he couldn't see himself accepting.
It was pointless.
Mirio sighed. "Listen, I'm not gonna force you or anything. But it's not like I'm asking you to take a big risk. All you'd have to do is come with me to see my boss. He can use his quirk on you and then determine if you'll be useful."
Izuku picked a leaf off his shoulder and watched it fall to the ground. "And then what?"
"Well, if Mr. Sasaki likes what he sees, we'll keep you around. With your consent, of course. Otherwise, you're free to go and I'll never bother you again," Mirio explained.
Izuku chewed on the inside of his cheek, going through the various options in his head. He wanted to help Eri, but he also knew deep down in his heart that there wasn't much he would be able to do. Still, if there was something Nighteye could see that would help the investigation run smoother, anything at all, Izuku was willing to accept.
Only for Eri's sake.
"Okay. I'll do it," he said after a while.
Mirio shot up from his seat and his disguise fell apart. "POWER! Right on problem child, I knew you'd come around," he looped his hand around Izuku's shoulder and grinned.
Izuku gave him a half-smile. It was hard to ignore the tingles that were starting to show up inside his body at the thought of working with the pros though. "When do we start?"
—
"So, have you decided on a successor?" Nighteye crossed one leg over the other, watching Toshinori from his side of the couch.
Toshi wouldn't meet his gaze and Nighteye frowned.
"Toshi…"
"I know. I know," Toshinori said quietly, glancing up at him.
"It's been three years since the fight, Toshinori. You promised me you'd have a successor by now. How's the summer training going? Have any of the five caught your eye? Are you still interested in that Katsuki kid? Or the girl who can create all those things from her body? I'm still upset you decided not to go with Mirio," Nighteye frowned.
Toshinori sighed. "He was a great candidate Mirai, it just didn't feel right. Plus, he's really taken a liking to working with you. You make an amazing team."
"Well if you're waiting for someone random to suddenly pop up, keep dreaming," Nighteye rolled his eyes.
Toshi gave him an apologetic smile.
"Look, at least let me look at you again. Maybe things have changed. Maybe I can see who you will choose and tell you–" Nighteye tried, but Toshinori stopped him.
"No," he stood up quickly. "I've already accepted the first fate you gave me. Let me figure this one out on my own while I'm still around," Toshinori mumbled.
Nighteye's gaze softened. "Toshi… the world needs a new symbol of peace. Especially right now, with everything going on."
"I know. Don't you think I want to pass on One For All already? Every day I think I'm closer to figuring out who will inherit my power, but then something happens and I change my mind. It's frustrating not being able to do anything either while I'm in this state. One For All just isn't for everyone, they're not ready yet," Toshinori shook his head.
"Then be prepared to die without doing anything at all," Nighteye frowned and walked over to his desk, turning his back on Toshi.
There was a long silence before Toshinori spoke again. "Bye Mirai. I'll come by again soon. Hopefully, by then, I'll have everything figured out. I'm still All Might after all," Toshi smiled but Nighteye didn't move. He continued watching the outside world from the window. Mirio and the green-haired kid were going to arrive soon, just like he had seen in Mirio's future. Nighteye sighed and shook his head.
"Bye Toshinori."
—
"Well?" Mirio asked, eagerly leaning in as Nighteye gripped Izuku's shoulder.
They were standing in Nighteye's office but Izuku felt like he was back in his old room. There was All Might merch everywhere. All Might decorations, All Might figurines, an All Might Carpet. Nighteye seemed to even have all of the limited edition posters. Izuku felt a pang of jealousy.
But he also felt excited. He was in yet another pro's presence, and this time, it was none other than Sir Nighteye, All Might's old sidekick. His quirk was so interesting too. Izuku had always dreamed of getting his future read.
His admiration quickly faded though when Nighteye released him and spoke.
"He's useless," he said plainly.
Izuku felt his mouth go dry. The disappointment he felt was too strong to ignore. Hearing those words come from someone who had been so close to his idol…
"Oh come on, sir! What exactly did you see?" Mirio frowned.
"Mirio… it's okay," Izuku said quietly, staring down at his shoes. He just wanted to run away. He must've seemed really pathetic to someone like Nighteye right now.
Mirio shook his head. "How will we know he's useless if you don't tell us what you saw?"
Nighteye raised an eyebrow at him. "Are you doubting my abilities Lemillion?"
"No. But I think that he deserves to know his future," Mirio responded.
"Well then let him ask me himself. If he wants to know what I saw then I'll tell him," Nighteye said. They both turned to look at Izuku.
Izuku looked up slowly when he felt their eyes on him. "Does my future have anything to do with helping Eri?" he asked.
Nighteye shook his head. "No. It doesn't."
Izuku nodded. His suspicions were confirmed. "Then I don't want to know."
"What?!" Mirio cried. "You can't be serious."
"We made a deal, Lemillion. If Nighteye saw that I was useful, I could stay. I don't care about anything else. I only came here for Eri. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go get ready for a parent-teacher conference," Izuku mumbled, walking out before Mirio could stop him. He could feel the tears building up in his eyes but he had promised himself on the way here that he wasn't going to cry. He had to keep himself together for his meeting with Mandalay.
And while it felt horrible to be called useless again, what hurt the most was the fact that Izuku was never going to be able to help Eri. Especially after he had been the one to let her go.
—
"I can't believe you didn't tell him. You always tell everybody what you see," Mirio grumbled, watching Izuku's tiny body below from the window.
"Mirio. You heard what he said–"
"Yeah, but I also know exactly what he must be feeling right now. Powerless. Worthless. Unable to do anything to help that little girl," Mirio gripped the polka dot curtains with his hand tightly. He remembered when Nighteye had told him about the case. It had been a few months since they had heard anything though and they had yet to find any useful leads.
"Yes, but you're different. You're a hero," Nighteye began.
Mirio clenched his fists and turned around. "And he can't be because he doesn't have a quirk? You could have lied. You could have let him do your stupid paperwork or something. Made him feel like he was helping us find Eri. Something."
"Mirio," Nighteye warned.
"You didn't even give him a chance. You didn't even beg him to listen. It's like you didn't care, it's like–"
"Togata, that's enough!" Nighteye yelled.
Mirio froze. Nighteye had never yelled at him before, let alone called him by his last name. Not even when he made a huge mistake that nearly cost them their lives last year during a trip. He must've been really upset right now.
"I didn't tell him because I didn't want him to know," Nighteye said quietly.
"Know what?" Mirio asked after a small silence.
"That on Monday, at exactly 10:35 AM, Izuku Midoriya is going to die in a fire. And there is nothing we can do to prevent it from happening."
