Note: do you know what my morning Jacket is there my moomin jacket now try and stop me. But seriously I decided to double down on Max and hedgehogs bad blood with each other should make it good for when we get near the end of the story like always enjoy.

"I still can't believe it." Hedgehog said to Oscar they had been walking around camp with no particular goal in mind. Max had stumbled of to his cabin to put away the album Susie had given them, he didn't want to admit it at the time but he was a really big fan of Susie or at least black Susie. He could remember listening to all of her songs and there were even a few he would play on repeat throughout the day, so to get a vinyl from the woman herself was almost better then spending time with Oscar although just barely. He would have asked her to autograph it too but his friends were there and it probably would have been a little weird to get an autograph from Susie of all people in front of them.

"Yeah Susie being a rapper is a little weird." They were making their way up a hill planing to rest at the top to take in the summer air. Hedgehog definitely thought this was a good idea, it felt like ages sense they spent time together she felt like everything just got away from her recently what with Max and Oliver she almost forgot her little brother. Now it was time to make things right with him even if he never noticed he still didn't deserve to be blown off so much.

"Yeah, out of all the weird stuff on this island, I think that might just be the weirdest." They approach the top of the hill with Oscar almost out of breath they were expecting to sit down immediately and observe the camp grounds below but as they get closer they see a figure standing atop the incline looking out into ocean. They get closer and realized it was barb junior. As they approach she thinks it's about time there was someone she could talk to about the upcoming event. "Hey bj."

At first barb junior hadn't responded to the greeting but eventually shaking her had, breaking her focus from the overview. It was as if the words hadn't reached her ears until right just then and it made hedgehog raise an eyebrow. "Oh hello hedgehog, Oscar." Her words slip out in an almost snake like manor that sent chills through hedgehogs soul. "What can I do for you on such a lovely day."

Hedgehog was hesitant to ask her anything, the eerie familiar feeling she gave off didn't inspire any kind of confidence but she needed to know where barb was." Right...have you seen your mom around by any chance."

"Oh my mother. I'm sure she's Hanging around here somewhere." She begins to chuckle with all the subtlety of a supervillain. She was laughing like there was no one else around at an inside joke no one could understand unless explained.

"Cool do you know when she'll be back?" Oscar says interrupting the maniacal laughter butting in with a question of his own attempting the back hedgehog up.

"oh I doubt she'll turn up for a long while. I wouldn't put it past her." She begins laughing again lower this time as to not arouse suspicion from the two children but hedgehogs suspicion was peaked the elf was acting strange almost similar to the one in heartford.

"Are you okay bj." Hedgehog decided to confront her, she was acting too weird and Oscar didn't seem to notice.

Barb junior stops her laughter and slowly turns to them. "Oh I'm fine. This midsummer breeze just his me a little lightheaded is all." Abruptly she seemingly returns back to her normal self or as normal as she could be. "I'm sorry about that I should really go lay down." As she walks off hedgehog couldn't help but feel that there was more to all of this then she had first thought. She didn't get any of her questions answered but she had the feeling that she derived something from junior's inane rambling.

If she was being honest the whole interaction put her off of today's plan, she wonders if Oscar feels the same. "Was bj acting strange to you Oscar." She turns to him almost knowing the answer will be.

"Well you know, elves are weird like that." He shrugs off the exchange that had just taken place.

Hedgehog didn't want that excuse this was more then just elves being elves she felt it, she felt something was wrong. "I mean...she wasn't acting really strange to you?"

He thinks for a moment before coming to a realization he had forgotten about. "Maybe her brain is still a little messed up from the thinking cap." He remembers how she was when he left the cap on her too long it was the best explanation.

"Yeah...maybe that's it." It wasn't what she was looking for but it's a better excuse then just them being weird like that, because they weren't weird, not like this.

"Alright so are we spending some time together or what?" He asked he didn't want to have climbed the steep hill just to immediately go back down again.

"Oh yeah. it's been a little hasn't it?" They sit down and bathe in the suns glow, they began talking about the past few day's about what's she's been up too her and Oliver's relationship and the blood drive. He shivers a little, not liking the thought of getting a needle but hedgehog assures him that it was going to be fun and continues to talk. She asks him about max and how much time they have been spending together and if he said anything private to him, she wouldn't tell she swears to her brother. But it was all the basics how he was a cool friend and that he likes spending time with him.

"So you and Oliver huh? Did he try to touch your private parts?" Oscar says with a smug look on his face making hedgehog blush embarrassed, recalling what she had asked him days ago.

"Oh shut up." She playfully shoved him making him fall over in the process but laughing about it nonetheless. "He's sweet okay. I wouldn't mind letting him." He set back up and looks at her still laughing with his hands over his mouth.

"Hedgehog you're so weird." He try's holding back his laughter with no luck as he continues to chuckle before coming to a calm. "Hmm...what time is it. You wanna get something to eat?"

She thinks for a moment before giving him her answer. "Uh...you go on without me. there's something I gotta get from my cabin." She says standing up and he follows soon after.

"Shot yourself. more for me." He said rubbing his hands over his stomach and they both race back down the hill she waves him off promising to be by as soon as possible then starts her track to the cabins. In truth she didn't need anything from her cabin it was just easier to say that instead of hey I'm gonna blow you off to hang out with Oliver. She wouldn't have said that but she felt that's how Oscar would take it and the last thing she wanted to do was hurt him intentionally or not.

She finds her way back to their homes in no time, immediately heading to Oliver's cabin she always thought it would be her and Max but Oliver, that came out of nowhere she hadn't even considered that he liked her as more the just a friend. Not like she didn't mind Oliver, he made her feel what Max could only do in her dreams and now she wanted to spend every waking moment with him even if it's just been a day. She reaches and finds him sitting in front with his eyes closed and headphones plugged in, he was bobbing his head and tapping his foot to the rhythm of the music he was listening too. She could tell he was definitely vibing to something deep at the moment he wasn't even aware that she had arrived.

She taps her foot against Olivers causing him to open his eyes in surprise, seeing her tilted down meeting him at eye level. He pulls the head phone's from his ears to hear her. "So what are you listening too?" She asked him curious as to with he was playing that brought him so far from earth.

"Oh it's just my moomin jacket. There really good." He says showing her the band on his phone.

"Oh cool I might check them out." This causes him to blush ever so lightly, non of the girls he was interested in never seemed to like the things he did "so...are you going to invite me in or are we hanging outside?"

"Oh-yeah right-right ." He jumped up as quick as he possibly could and held the door open for her. "Uh come on in." He never really invited anyone into his cabin in fact no one really wanted to come over for some reason. Eventually he got it in his head that he was just uninteresting, that the reason no one wanted to hang out with him that much was because he was the boring music kid but there was someone here nonetheless and someone he really liked, that made it all the better.

"Oh man Oliver. I don't think I've been in your cabin before." She notes all of the music memorabilia around his cabin posters of bands and composers alike plastered across every wall, music themed books and tapes lined the floor and even his bed sheets had keynotes on them. "Wow it's...very musical."

"Yeah I like music." He mentality kicks himself for blurting out something so stupid of course he liked music everyone knew he did.

"I can see that." Her response almost makes him want to vomit, if she wasn't interested before she definitely didn't want to be with him now. No he was putting to much thought into it the most he could do right now was tell her how he felt, what's the worst that can happen.

"Hey-hedgehog." He stammered the words

"Hm what is it Oliver?" She turns to him waiting for him to say what was on his mind.

"I-uhh I don't know if you noticed last night but-uh but-I" he starts to choke up and activates his usual defensive measures by pulling his hat over his eyes. "I like you, I really like you." Its silent for a few seconds before hedgehog brings her hands up to her cheeks and puts on her best shocking reveal face.

"What? Oliver I had no idea." She makes sure to sound as convincing as possible.

"Really? You didn't!?" He peeks out from under his hat, his face redder then the shiniest red apple she could find.

"Of course I knew dum-dum...And I kinda like you too." He feels a wave of relief wash over, from the way she was acting last night towards him it should have been obvious.

"Right, Right my bad. guess I should have known." He calms down as she gets closer slowly creeping towards him, he was starting to sweat as she begins to close her eyes and puckers her lips. He knows what's coming next and he prepares him self but just before anything could happen a litters fly's in to the room from beneath the door startling them as it passed.

"What the. What is this." Hedgehog walks over to we're the latter landed on Oliver's floor, he thinks what a bad time to receive news. "It's an invitation to something called the midsummer waltz?"

He walks up next to her to examine to card. "Midsummer waltz? What's that?" She surges and opens up the latter to find Betsy face inside.

"Hello camper you are here by invited to the midsummer waltz a dance we host here on the island every summer. Come dance with a partner of you choosing, hangout with friends or just simply take in the festivities of the evening. We hope the see you there." The message explodes in her hand as it finishes.

"A dance? That's perfect." She muttered to herself grabbing Oliver's attention in to progress.

"I'm sorry what?" He says confused as to what she talking about.

"Oh right so I was thinking of ways to help max with Oscar I was gonna just brew up a love potion but I think this could be way better." She explains how she's planning on going about playing match maker for Max.

"Oh right." Oliver recalls Max's feelings for Oscar. "Yeah Max is going to need all the help he can get. Cause Oscar...well he's just not gonna get it."

"Yeah I should go tell him now." Before she could go she stopped by Oliver grabbing her arm.

"Wait hold on. I'll go." He sees the look of confusion on her face and proceeded to explain to her. "I've seen the way you two were acting in the mess hall and I'm guessing he's still bitter about it. So I'll go so he doesn't think you're trying to set him up or something."

She cringed at the memory she had almost forgotten her rivalry with Max, he was definitely not going to hear her out but her relationship with Max is something she'll have to deal with later. She smiles at him, it sounded like a good idea she couldn't poke any holes in it right now so she agreed. "Ah thank you Oliver." She hugs him and gives him a kiss on the cheek making him smile as they walk towards the door and out of the cabin. Her plans were now officially in motion.

"HEY MAX." Oliver bangs on the door to Max's cabin "MAX YOU IN THERE." He wondered what could be taking him so long, he goes to knock again but stops when he sees the door open up.

"Oh what's up Oliver." Max rubs his eyes as he greeted Oliver at the door he could tell Max had ether been sleeping senes there trip to Susies or stressing out about something.

He thinks for a second choosing his words carefully before speaking. "Are you okay man?" He asked him not expecting an answer but to be courteous to his friend.

Max looks at him for what seemed like hours before waving him inside, Oliver took the the gesture as a sign that things were not alright. He walks in as Max lays down on his bed with everything he knew now about Max he could only assume that this was about the dance.

"Right, so what's wrong dude?" Oliver asks him again waiting for the answer he felt he already knew.

"Umm...so their was this letter that came earlier." He pauses for a moment. "And it said something about a dance. And well..." he stop looking for the right words but Oliver already knew what he wanted to say.

"And you want to go with Oscar." Max's eyes widen and he nearly jumps out of bed, he hadn't even considered Oliver would find out so quickly.

"You know huh?" Max questioned a little more embarrassed now more then every.

"I mean besides the fact you want to ride him like a bicycle...yeah I know." He jokes with him but it was clear that Max wasn't in the joking mood at the moment. "So what are gonna do?"

Max go's back to laying on his bed. "I'm not going. No doubt he's gonna want to hang with hedgehog the whole time." He says with a familiar spiteful tone in his voice.

"Oh come on Max. You're really just not gonna go?" He begins his best attempt to convince his downhearted friend. "Max look at me. Remember what you told me to do about hedgehog. Now I'm telling you just go for it. It's never gonna happen if you don't try."

Max stares at him hesitantly "I-I don't know. what if he thinks things get too weird and doesn't want to hang out with me anymore. Or what if hedgehog tells him something and he doesn't want to ha-" he's stopped in his tracks by Oliver telling him to quit down.

"Look dude don't think about the what if's hedgehog is gonna be with me all night, and you made it this far with Oscar right?" Max shakes his head agreeing with him. "If you're so worried just tell him that you like him, he's ether going to like you back or he's not but you'll still be friends right."

Max thinks to himself before speaking again. "Yeah...yeah you're right Oliver." He pops out of bed and start looking for his best outfit for the occasion.

"See what's the worst that could happen." Max thanks him before he leaves but as he searches for his suit the question arises, what is the worst that could happen.

"Oh man." Max whispered to himself, he was walking next to Oscar who had cleaned up fairly nicely for tonight's event he was wearing a black suit with thine white stripes lining the suits surface with a vest and purple dress shirt underneath. He had been fidgeting with his golden cufflinks the entire way there. "How did I let Oliver talk me into this." He sighs continuing to mutter to him self.

"What's that Max?" Oscar had overheard him and was now wondering what was on his mind.

"Uhh" he stops to think of a quick explanation for his murmuring "nothing just excited is all." He tells him everything was alright but inside he felt like he was dying. So far everything was a mess his suit wasn't all the great just a hand me down he received from his father, he stumbled over his words when he saw how good Oscar looked (no doubt dressed by hedgehog.) he had accidentally head butted him when they both bent down to pick up something Oscar had dropped, and to top it off he couldn't dance. He didn't think this night was going to get any better, maybe it wasn't too late to leave he thinks but changes his mind. Oscar didn't deserve to be ditched because he was feeling inadequate, he was just going to have to stick it out.

"Hey look I think that's it." They reach the grounds where the dance was being held it was the Same spot Susie had hosted her birthday party this quickly drags up some remnant post traumatic stress in the two boys. "I didn't know it would be here." Oscar says nervously although it was more beautiful then last time, lights adorned the trees, the dim lighting made the scenery pop out making the dance area more pronounced, there were tables Lind with snacks just out of view as to not drew attention from the center, and the moonlight broke through the trees shining right in the middle of the dance floor.

"Hey Oscar, Max it's about time." Hedgehog says walking up to them they were the last ones to arrive, everyone had already been sorted there were ether children dancing or standing near the snack tables talking with friends. "How cool is this right Oscar."

"Yeah we would have been her earlier but Max took a while to actually come get me." He explains the delay to her, she wanted him to wait for Max instead of going with them but it had taken longer then anticipated for him to actually get to Oscar. "I don't mind though it was worth to see all this."

"Right right. Hey Oliver can you take Oscar to the snack table's I kinda want to talk to Max a little." Oliver doesn't understand at first but walks off with Oscar when she insisted in her nicest do with I say or else tone. "So what took so long anyway?"

Max rolls his eyes at her, wouldn't she like to know he thinks. "Look I really didn't want to come in the first place but...Oliver convinced me." He tells her thinking that's all she was getting from him.

"Oh okay. Well I just wanted to say I'm okay with you and Oscar." He rises an eyebrow, who was she to say who and who wasn't good for Oscar.

"Oh okay I didn't know I needed you permission now." He confronts her keeping his voice low not wanting to make a scene.

"What? No-that's not wh-" she's cut of by him angrily speaking his mind to her.

"You know he's old enough so why do you keep doing this? honestly hedgehog." He brushes past her and walks over to the snack table leaving her dumbfounded and more then a bit angry he says she baby's him but he's the one trying to manipulate him.

"Okay Max I see how it's gonna be." She officially calls the war back on maybe she couldn't stop him from getting with Oscar but she could make it hard for him. But for tonight she was just going to enjoy herself and come up with a plan later. She walks over to where the three boy's were standing and pulls Oliver onto the dance floor by his arms.

Oscar watch's them move to the music, it was almost like the song it's self was interwoven in to their souls as they move to the sounds of the monsters violins. It was getting him excited he thinks hedgehog was always a good dancer and he was grateful she had taught him.

"Hey come on let's dance." He turns to Max wanting to get on the dance floor as soon as possible.

"Uh-I don't know there's a lot of kids already." He try's his best to discourage him but Oscar was having non of it.

"Don't worry Max theirs not that many." He starts pulling at Max's arm trying to get him to move from his spot. "It'll be fun tru-"

"Wait Oscar...I-I can't dance." He decided to just admit why he was so afraid to come in the first place. "That's way I don't want to...I can't." He whispers somberly to him however Oscar takes his hand up and guides him into the dancing crowd.

"Don't worry Max I'll teach you." He takes Max's right hand and puts it on his hip and puts his right hand on Max's shoulder. "This is the basic positioning for a slow dance. You keep you right hand on my hip, I'll hold on to your shoulder and we keep our left hands intertwined." The position they were dancing in had made Max flush with red although he was fairly new to it he hadn't been doing a bad job. "See your getting." The sound of approval from Oscar's soft voice almost makes him faint he felt himself melt whenever Oscar spoke low it was like hearing the voice of in Angel dipped in gold preformed by boy band. It was a sound he always wanted to experience for the rest of eternity.

"Thanks Oscar." The feeling he was getting from Oscar's touch was almost to much to bear he had closed his eyes to drown out everything but the sound of Oscar's voice and the feel of his body. All of it combined made him feel like he was flying.

"Max, Max open your eyes." His eyes open immediately to discover that they really were flying they were in the sky and still ascending towards the moon.

"Wow what's happening?" Oscar shrugs just as lost as he was an the moment.

"Hey guys how's it going." The moon Greets them as they get closer to him.

"Moon what's happening right now." Oscar yells keeping his eyes off the ground in fear of losing his lunch.

"Well ever year during the midsummer waltz I get to choose the most passionate pair to dance in the sky with me. That's why my light was shining in the center of the dance floor" The moon explained to them. "You two clicked so much I had to bring you up, it's a really high honor."

"That's really cool actually." Oscar a little nauseous from the height completely focused his eyes on Max. He remembers what Oliver told him hours earlier and figures now was probably a good enough time to tell Oscar how he felt.

"Hey Oscar." He begins to ask.

"Yeah max?" Oscar looks him in the eyes it makes his stomach knot up and he starts to reconsider.

"I-uh I think-uhh...I think you're a really cool friend." He couldn't do it no matter how hard he tried he just can't pull himself to tell Oscar how he feels.

"Oh yeah I think you're a cool friend too." Maybe next time he'll say something but for now he'll just enjoy what they have.
