Later I walked into the party, expecting to be greeted by Thriller or Monster Mash and teenagers in gory character imitations, but I was greeted with loud rap music and people wearing almost nothing making out with each other. I was not ready for this version of Halloween. I searched for Karen and Gretchen. They screamed when they saw my outfit.
"Why are you dressed so scary?" Karen asked.
"Yeah, if you don't dress slutty it's slut-shaming us." Gretchen added.
"I didn't know-" I started to respond.
"Look, there's Alex, he's a really good kisser." Karen interrupted.
"Karen, he's your cousin."
"Yeah, but he's a good kisser."
"Karen."
"I'm going over there."
"No, you can't." Gretchen pushed her back.
"Why not?"
"Because I'm a better kisser."
"Oh yeah? Prove it."
Gretchen did just that. Karen, the tiny mouse, was pinned to the wall by the girl in the cat costume. The kiss was short and sweet.
"Wow, you are a better kisser!"
"I told you."
"Can you maybe… do that again?"
I quickly decided I should leave them alone. I walked around and bumped right into Regina.
"I know your secret."
"What secret?"
"Gretchen told me you like Aaron Samuels."
"Gretchen what?!"
"It's fine, I'm not mad. In fact, I'll talk to him for you."
I didn't really want her to do that, "no, I'm sure it'll be fine."
"No, I'll do it. Aaron!" She called out to Aaron and walked over to him.
I watched them intently, wondering what I was going to do if he did like me. Aaron glanced back at me, so I waved at him. They continued to talk and then suddenly she was kissing him. No no no. She shouldn't do this. I don't actually have a crush on him, but I was angry she would react this way if I did. I had to tell Damian too, so I stormed out of the party and walked over to Janis' house.
"She took him back."
"Who?"
"Regina, she took Aaron back. I'm so sorry Damian."
"No, it's okay. Regina's a life ruiner, it's what she does."
"Did we ever tell you about what happened between her and Janis in eighth grade?"
"No."
"Damian, please don't." Janis interjected.
"No, she has a right to know. You see, when Janis and Regina were younger they were best friends, and soon it turned to more. One day their friends caught Janis kissing Regina. Regina covered it up by saying Janis was a lesbian who was obsessed with her and completely stopped talking to her. Regina was the only one she had shown her art to at that point, a painting of the stars. So Regina spray painted 'space dyke' on her locker later that day. Janis had to drop out of the rest of that year because the bullying was too much."
"That's terrible."
"So now you understand?"
"Yes, and you know what? I'll help you get revenge."
"Yesss!" Janis shouted, "we're going to have so much fun."
"And the Kaltein bar idea, we have to do that."
She clapped her hands together. I settled down on the couch with them and finished up the movie. I went home and drew up even more ideas to ruin Regina's life before going to bed.
