Chapter 11: Nightmare

Before this next chapter starts, I want to thank you all for over 100 views on this one-shot series in less than 24 hours! Thank you so much!

Takes place after the events of Painting the Autumn Leaves, the final installment in my Onward FanFiction series.

(Barley's POV)

I bolt up in bed, having just had a nightmare about losing everyone in a house fire: my wife Becky, my kids Julia and Esther, my brother Ian, my mom Laurel and stepdad Colt. Everyone.

"Honey, you okay?" My wife asks beside me.

"Nightmare. Really bad nightmare."

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

I recount the nightmare to Becky, and I start to cry after telling her.

"Shhh. Shhh. You're okay. You're okay. It was just a nightmare."

"It was so horrible."

"I can't even imagine what you were feeling during that nightmare. I'm so sorry your dreamt that."

"Thank you, my queen."

"You going to be okay to go back to sleep?" Becky asks. I look at the clock on my bedside table. It's 1:27AM.

"Just don't go anywhere, okay?"

"I won't, Barley. I promise."

I eventually fall back asleep, my wife's arms around me.

I don't have another nightmare, and for that I'm grateful.

The next morning, I wake up and see my wife next to me, dried tear stains on her cheeks.

I kiss her forehead, knowing we can get through anything as long as we're together.
