Chapter. Invisible String
Harry Potter Pov-
Now in my office, on a black lounge that I always found uncomfortable, I hugged Parvati tight, comforting her in the only way I knew how. Arms around her shoulder and waist.
"You know, my boggart, i hoped will always be mummies." Says Parvati.
"Why is that? Do to the fear of being buried alive?" I say.
"Well, yes. Actually. How did you guess?"
"I wouldn't particularly enjoy it either." I smiled. First time since we got into my office, that she stopped sobbing over her twin sister's death.
"Now.. It's seeing my sister's unmoving body."
For some odd reason I wanted her pain erased, just like weeks before with Hermione. I cannot stand the pain in my friends eyes, or knives in their hearts. Its completely gut wrenching.
"It was during my third year that Lavender and I grew close to Professor Trewlaney, it was then she said to beware of a redheaded man, and I been keeping my distance from the Weasley boys." She laughed and I couldn't help to join.
"Same." I joked.
"Padam, called me silly. Let's say all safety measures I decided to beware of all men, mostly long term."
I laughed glancing to my marble polished floor. I never did hear of her having children or wedding anyone.
Has she been to herself all these years? At least I had Ginny and the kids, to end each nightly hour with.
"What's that look?" She ask, and I look to her in the eyes.
"Nothing."
"Nothing, Harry Potter?" She says, narrowing her brown eyes at me.
I smirked, the way she glared made me think she knew of my curiosity.
"It's just... you never seemed to be the... unmarried-kind"
"Oh no, not you too. Padam always gave me fuss on never taking a husband, don't you say it too."
"I apologize, you always appeared well... well kept and inviting."
"Inviting?" She says jokingly offended.
"Sorry, wrong word."
She laughed. "I understand what you're trying to say, don't worry. I'm kind, I'm generous, I'm loving, a amazing friend...blah, blah, blah. You do know, I hear of it many times."
I grinned. "Well, you did tell Dean to inform Hermione that Hagrid was looking for me that one time. Marvelous friend, you truly are."
She laughed. "Oh, yes...those were the days."
I nodded. Thinking of all my friends at Hogwarts, then instantly came the image of everyone I lost as well.
"I'm sorry, they weren't really-"
"No, no. They were, for me as well. Especially my days with Ron and Hermione. With everyone, really." I say fast.
"That's a true life, the momentum of certain times that weren't all bad." She says.
I indeed have had those in my life time.
"Like the Yule Ball, our dance went very poorly. Are you sure you gotten better?" She asked.
"I like to thank so." I smile.
Suddenly, Parvati sighed. Placing her face in the palms of her hands.
I hugged her, yet once more, tightly.
"I'm sorry," She mumbled.
"No, it's fine. I completely understand."
"It's just... just...Padam..." She sobbed into my chest, as I caressingly rubbed her back and hair. "Padam, should not have been ... I mean... Pansy was a death eater, completely vivacious. Here I understand... but Padam...did not. No one knew of this but, Pansy were distance family to us. Yet, Padam did not deserve to be murdered."
Suddenly I lifted my head to a knock on my office door.
"Harry?"
Walked in Angelina, and Parvati sobs went silent.
"Yes?" I answered. This is the worst possible time to bust in. I thought as Ang took photographs from her red work folder. She mouth 'Sorry '.
"My apologies for the interrupt." She glance at Parvati. "Terribly, sorry for your beloved." Then her focus was back to me as Parvati and I slowly parted, "I thought you'd like to be informed that there was a message in the..." She say cautiously looking to Parvati. "Ashes, near... Padam." She finish not wanting to use the words "The Body" as if Padam was an unknown.
"What did it say?" Parvati ask before I could.
"It read 'Black." She says to us both.
"Black?" Parvati says confused as I was. the other clues were Hogwarts related as if the killer once went.
"Black ...what?" I ask. "Shade? Surname?"
"I will find out." She says with a determination so clear that there was no more words to say. Before I could say a word, Angelina turned and headed straight towards her office I assume.
I looked to Parvati, who stood to her feet.
"That was strange,"
"Very." I agreed.
"Are you hungry?" She asked and I didn't have to sneak a peek at my clock on the wall to know I was way overdue for a lunch break.
"Actually, I am."
She nodded with a small smile and watery eyes. "Let's go grab something to eat on."
I quickly grabbed the crime scene photographs off my desk, then hurried to open the door for Parvati. "Allow me." She stepped back a bit as I ushered for her to step ahead first.
"Thank you."
As we took the short walk to the lifted, Parvati quickly push the down button before I could with a laugh.
"Too slow." She giggled and I was happy she could manage small moments of laughter on this horrible day.
A sick wave of panic and pain twisted in my guts, feel as if I don't find whose behind these killings, I will be next to die of failure.
Soon as the lifted doors opened we walked in. Just us too I pushed the button for the bottom floor, ever since I was 18 years of age, there has been major changes here at the ministry.
"Harry?" Parvati say and I looked over at her.
"Yeah?"
She steps clean in front of me. "I have an idea, do you trust me?" She say with a hopeful smile.
"Depends, what do you have in mind?"
Parvati smile grew much bigger as she placed her hands on each side of my shoulder. Just in one swishing woosh, Parvati and I were in a cafe.
Glancing around surprised, the russet and white cafe, was dark, and closed.
"Aww, I was hoping it would be open today." She say and I glared across the table to her.
"Parvati, where are we?"
"North America. Last year I was in Italy and I overheard tourists gushing about this place, and my my my they were right. The meals are marvelous, and I was hoping you could enjoy it with me."
I nodded afraid someone would be alerted to find us here. "Okay, well maybe another time will be best. We should get back home. We could go to Diagon Alley or London." I suggested.
"Yeah, perhaps your right." She says taking both of my hands in hers.
In a instant we were in London, seated at a booth.
"Oh. Hello." A waitress almost walking past us at the table, the pub was half full. "I must have completely forgotten that I have seated you couple."
"Um, oh, we aren't-"
"Well I'm starving. May we have some starters on you specials of the day listed?" Parvati says cutting me off.
"Yes, you may." The girl say.
"As well as two butter beers?" Parvati adds, ordering for me.
Which no one has ever done, not ever Ginny.
"Would that be all?" The waitress ask looking to me and I faked a grin to Parvati, who seemed to speak for the both of us.
"No, thank you dearly." She says and I pulled out the file on the case, that I can't seem to get to the bottom of.
"This is a grand place to pull those out." She says, and I completely forgot that it was today that she lost her sister.
What am i thinking?
"God, Parvati I'm terribly sorry. I almost forgotten."
"No, it fine. Honestly." She say with a quick shrug.
I placed my arms on the folder, on the table to keep from opening it.
"Harry, seriously. It's alright."
I sighed, shaking my head.
I was frustrating to be so blind when it came to the crimes.
"You know, I keep having flashbacks of the night Padam and i dressed before accompanying you and Ron Weasley to the Yulu Ball. Her and I talked all day, excitingly about what was to happen."
I dropped my head. Her and I went together, yet I wasn't much of a date do to the truth that I fancied Cho enormously.
"I'm sorry, I wish I could have gave that night a chance... but my infatuation with Cho, was... heavy."
She laughed quietly. "I know, everyone knew and you weren't the only one." She says, and i frowned.
"Cedric.." I stated and the image of Voldemort killing him so many year ago flashed in to my head.
"It makes me wonder, Harry. Could Cho and Cedric be together right now. And if so, maybe Padma can now keep Lavender completely... along with Fred." She laughed to herself.
"Yeah, yeah imagine that." I say, wistfully.
"How are you and Ginny, by the way." She ask.
"We're... well."
"Sometimes when I think of that 4th year, and the Yule Ball, I remember how amazing we all were. You and I, Hermione and Viktor Krum, Ginny and Neville, -"
"Fred and I." Angelina say walking to our table. "Sorry to interrupt, but I think I may have find a pattern."
"How did you find us?" Parvati asked.
"I did a spell." She whispered, placing a tan folders on the table. "You know, George always seem to be so happy to tease me about loving the weasley twins." Ang jokes.
"Pad- my sister,.. did say Ron was brilliantly-handsome at brooding." Parvati says.
"Right, and it's all in the blood." Angelina says, fast.
"What do you mean?" I ask getting to my feet, to look over her shoulder.
"Pure-bloods." She confirms, holding up a piece of paper.
"Pure-"
"Bloods!" Ang says excited. "This whole time we assumed the killings were random, not true. It's always a pattern."
I nodded. "Make sense, like when the heir of Syltherin returned to Hogwarts-"
"And unleashed the Basilisk." Parvati says standing up.
"Harry, all we need to do now is figure out why this person is targeting Pure-Bloods, and catch them." Ang says.
"How?" Parvati ask getting to her feet. "There are a millions of pure-blood wizards out there."
"She's right, and whose to say which Pure-Blood wizard or witch will be next." I stated.
"Yes, there's has to be another pattern." Parvati says.
"We need Hermione." I say, just as the waitress arrives with Parvati and I, lunch.
"Well, enjoy your lunch, I'll head back to the ministry and seek, Hermione." Angelina says.
