Living a Double Life

The next day, Mokuba and Rebecca left the cathedral and returned to the Secret Garden. They went to the hot spring to relax themselves. As Mokuba soaked himself in the hot water, he thought about how he was starting to miss everyone back home. He also missed hanging out with the rest of his friends. "Hey, Bec."

"Yeah?" Rebecca asked.

"I think when I'm done here, I'm going to go home for a little while. You know, rest up, see Seto and Guilmon, and get back to my regular life. But if you want to go back to the bell tower, you can," he told her. "I don't want to keep you from doing what you want to do."

Rebecca refused. "No way. I'm not going to have all the fun without you. Lovers don't do that."

"Are you sure?" Mokuba asked.

"Yeah, and besides, I've been thinking about going home for a while too," she returned. She rested her chin in her arms as she rested her arms on one of the rocks. She also looked around. "I wish we could bring Quasi to this place. He'd love it here."

"Me too, but he's worried about leaving the bell tower and that Frollo might find out," said Mokuba. He wished there was a way to assure his friend that they could bring him here and bring him back to the tower before the minister would even find out. "I also wish we could introduce him to the rest of our friends, but then that would mean breaking our promise."

"How so?" Rebecca asked.

"We promised Quasi we wouldn't tell anyone about him," Mokuba reminded her. "We'd be breaking our promise if we told Leon and Kohaku and everyone else." He sighed and began resting on another rock. "I just want to be someone he can trust, you know. I don't want to do anything that will have a bad impact on our friendship."

Rebecca understood and she wanted the same thing. "Let's just give him time. He said he'll want to meet everyone once he's ready. When that time comes, maybe then we can tell the others. But we still can't let your brother or his friends know."

"Right," Mokuba said in agreement. "I was also thinking, Becca, maybe I should tell Quasi about my brother and the others being Heroes of Millennia. Then that would mean telling him the story about the age of the Shadow Games as well as the story of the Great Goddess and the Dark Lord."

Rebecca shrugged. "Well, that's up to you, but I don't think there would be any harm. But if you want to tell him, I'll support you. It actually may even be fun."

The raven-haired boy gave it some thought. Maybe it would be fun. Not only would the children be entertaining their friend by telling him stories, but they would also be teaching him about the wonders of the other worlds as well.

So it was decided that when they would return to the bell tower, Mokuba and Rebecca would tell Quasimodo the stories of the Battle of the Gods and the age of the Shadow Games. It would have to wait, though. With the weekend coming to an end, Rebecca and Mokuba were going to be busy over the next few days with their families as well as their own personal duties. So until next weekend, when things settled down for the lovers, they would meet at the end of the day and spend time with their other friends.

They left the hot spring and passed through the door back to their world. Mokuba sighed, happy to be back in his room where Guilmon was. "Hey, Guilmon," he said, petting him. "I've missed you, boy."

"I've missed you too," the Digimon returned. True, Mokuba was only gone for a few minutes, but Guilmon always missed his partner when he was gone. "Where'd you go?"

"Just to see a friend in another world," he answered.

"Who was it," Guilmon was asking, "or can't you tell me?"

Sadly, Mokuba couldn't tell him. "Sorry, boy. I can't tell you."

Guilmon didn't understand why his partner was keeping secrets from him, but he accepted his response.

Mokuba got an idea. "Hey, Guilmon, why don't we spend the rest of the day together?"

The red dragon liked the sound of that. It had been a long time since the partners did anything fun together.

For the rest of the day, Mokuba and Guilmon played cards, watched television, read books, and drew pictures. Mokuba was happy to be spending time with his best friend again. He was also looking forward to seeing the others too. Then he remembered. Emily promised to make Guilmon bread. He decided to give her a quick call and ask her if it was ready.

The bread was ready, but Emily couldn't bring it to Mokuba today. She had just left for a dentist appointment. Gatomon was home, though, so she could give it to him. Mokuba decided to stop by the bakery tomorrow and pick it up there.

The following day, Mokuba stopped at the bakery to pick up the Guilmon bread Emily made for him and he also bought a loaf of blackberry bread to share with his friends once he would see them. Rini had invited him and Rebecca and Leon to come over for a tea party. Kohaku wasn't going to be able to come because he was on call to help stop a demon that was tormenting a village. Shippo was helping him out and Rin had to stay home because she was sick in bed with a stomachache.

Guilmon wanted to come, but Mokuba wouldn't let him. Although he had been to the world of the Sailor Scouts before, Mokuba didn't want to frighten Serena's parents. Guilmon looked out the window in sadness as he watched his partner leave.

Agumon saw this and asked, "What's wrong, Guilmon?"

He moaned and said, "Moki never takes me anywhere with him anymore. I guess I'm not his best friend anymore."

Agumon held Guilmon's hand. "That's not true. You'll always be Moki's best friend. But he needs to be able to spend time with his other friends too. Besides, it's still risky for us to go out in public. Even with your disguise, it's a little suspicious."

"But I miss spending time with Moki and his friends," Guilmon whined. "Besides, these days, I hardly know what he's up to. He's always going to the other worlds to see his friends, but he won't talk about what he's been doing."

Kaiba listened to the Digimon as he was working at his desk. Even he was curious about what his brother was doing and where he was going all the time. Well, hopefully as the rest of the week would progress, things would soften up and Mokuba would be more open about his activities. Plus, he would be spending more time at home since it would be busy during the weekdays, so maybe Kaiba would be able to get some things out of his brother.
