Hey guys, I am so sorry that it's been so long since I updated this story. I don't really have an excuse, I just got busy and honestly completely forgot about it until a couple days ago. I'll try to update semi-regularly for the future. Again, I don't own any of this.
After rounds Meredith catches Derek in the hallway and discreetly pulls him off to the side.
"So, what were you talking to Bailey about?" Meredith asks.
"We just discussed the fact that I am in no way favoring you and that if another intern actually knew the answer to my question, they would have been given the same opportunities you are. I asked her if she would rather I had an intern who didn't know what they were doing in there while I was operating on someone's brain." He explained.
"You didn't have to do that" Mer replied.
"I know you're glad I did." He said smirking at her.
"Whatever," she said rolling her eyes. "I have to go prep the patient." She says walking away. Derek just laughs at his flustered wife.
Meredith goes back to Mrs. Andrews room to prep her for surgery.
"Do you have any questions before the surgery?" Meredith asks her.
"I don't have any questions about the surgery, but why was that other doctor earlier upset? Is there something wrong?" She asks
"Oh no, Dr. Bailey just doesn't approve of some of the things that have to do with my personal life." She explains.
"Oh, do explain." Mrs. Andrews asks eagerly.
"You have to promise you can keep a secret." Meredith says glancing in the hallway.
"Of course, now spill."
"After I tell you I really do need to prep you for surgery."
"Deal, now what is so important that that doctor was glaring like that?"
"So you know the other doctor Shepherd, the one that is doing your surgery." Meredith says taking a breath. "Well he and I are married and none of our coworkers know and Doctor Bailey found out last night and didn't understand exactly what was going on." Meredith says, relieved to finally get to tell someone besides Doctor Bailey the truth.
"Why is it a problem that you are married. You two look like you'd make a very nice couple."
"Well, he is an attending, and I am only an intern and people seem to think that I'm only married to him to get ahead."
"How long have you been together? If you don't mind me asking."
"Oh, I don't mind at all, it's kind of nice to get to talk to someone about it. We've been together for eight years and married for six." Meredith tells her.
"If you've been together for that long then how could you be using him to get ahead?"
"That's the thing with not telling people, they don't know that."
"Well then the solution is simple, just tell them." Mrs. Andrews says as if it is the most obvious thing in the world.
"I just might do that, now I really do have to prep you for surgery now. We don't want that aneurism to blow now do we?" Meredith says standing up.
"No we don't, you just promise me you'll talk to those people about you and that Doctor Shepherd okay."
"Okay I will Mrs. Andrew." Meredith says laughing.
"And call me Emma."
"Okay Emma, let's get you down for your surgery." Meredith says not noticing George standing there in the hallway with a shocked look on his face.
