Morning came a lot quicker than Lily felt was right, Cato suggested they were trying to end the games quickly. After sharing half the nutrition bar Finnick sent they made their way out to look for Thresh, Cato had his giant sword and she had her belt as well as a small sword. Quietly following Cato, Lily marveled at the chance they could go home, there were only six tributes left which made their odds tip generously in their favor. She knew Katniss and Thresh would be a challenge and she'd bet the girl from five got something to help her hide or sneak around from the feast. Cato had the idea to go the long way around and attack the Wheat field from behind he claimed Thresh would be expecting them from the front, it felt like they had walked forever when a cannon boomed.
"Who do you think that was?" She asked him as they stopped, nothing appeared in the sky.
"Hopefully one of the star crossed lovers," Cato mumbled before moving forward again, she thought of Katniss and Peeta and the thought that they would need to die for her to live. She quickly shook the saddening thought out of her head before catching up to Cato.
The sky grew dark almost instantly, "Cato," She whispered suddenly having a bad feeling rush through her.
"Welcome to the finale," Cato said as a growl could be heard behind them.
"We need to get back to the Cornucopia," Lily said she took off running before even waiting for Cato's reply, she heard him follow her closely. They heard more growls and a deep scream coming from their left in the wheatfield followed by a cannon.
"Go, faster Lil," he called from behind her and she pushed harder. They could hear pounding of feet coming up fast behind them. They broke into the clearing and a beast pounced on Cato, Lily stopped and turned around as he yelled, the mutt looked at her and she froze. It resembled a large wolf but it was wearing a collar with the number four on it, and it's eyes were identical to Niles, Lily lunged forward plunging the sword into the neck of the mutt and it fell to the ground with a whine, she pulled Cato up, his head all bloody before pulling him forward and taking off again. More wolfs appeared behind them and Lily speed for the cornucopia, Cato boosted her up and then pulled himself up just as the Mutts reached them. They fell on their backs and breathed hard, Cato rolled over to examined Lily and make sure she was okay.
Suddenly they heard a bang from the other side of the roof and saw Katniss' bow before she climbed up and helped Peeta up. Lily glanced back down at the Mutts and realized they were each of the fallen tributes, Cloves eyes looked up at her fiercely as the mutt jumped up trying to get her.
Cato spring up and walked over pushing Katniss to the ground and Lily sprung to her feet. He hit Peeta who fell to the ground before he turned on Katniss again, Peeta tackled him and the wrestled for dominance Katniss stood up to help Peeta and Lily's feet moved before she thought and she tackled her to the ground Katniss losing her bow in the movement.
"You're helping him," Katniss shouted in shock and disgust, "He's a monster," She pushed Lily away and got to her feet.
"We're all monsters," Lily said rising up and Katniss made to come at her again, pushing Lily down again and Cato came at her with the sword, slashing angrily but not hitting his target. He grabbed Katniss and forced her to the edge of the roof were the Mutts were jumping and snapping. The next moments happened so quickly, Peeta pulled Cato off her and Katniss grabbed her bow while Cato wrestled Peeta and got his arms around his neck. Katniss aimed her bow but Cato, Lily pulled a knife out ready to throw.
"Go on shoot," He said, "We'll both go down and Lily will have a knife in your heart before you can even think about reloading," Katniss glanced at Lily but kept her bow on Cato, "She'll win that's all I've wanted," Cato tightened his gripped on Peeta and Katniss tightened her bow "Oh, I can still do this, I can still do it, one more kill," He gestured to Peeta, indicating he could snap his neck with one movement. Lily saw Peeta mark an x on Cato's hand and nod his head, Katniss let her bow fly and it shot were Peeta had marked, and Peeta took advantage and pushed him over the edge.
"Cato!" Lily screamed, before letting her golden knife fly hitting Katniss in the stomach as she turned, before thinking Lily launched herself off the roof after Cato has the mutts started attacked she handed Cato a knife and they backed themselves against the wall of the cornucopia fighting off the mutts.
"Katniss," She heard Peeta call and knew the poison would be in effect and paralyzed Katniss. The Mutts growled at them not attacking them directly, suddenly beeping could be heard from the sky and thousands of sponsor gifts started to fall, looking up and distracted a mutt attacked Lily and bit her stomach.
"Lil!" Cato screamed stabbing the mutt in the head, the others all seemed to run off.
"Attention, Attention, I present to you the victors of the 74th Hunger Games,"
"Cato," Lily's soft voice called and she glanced down feeling the warm blood seep down, she felt dizzy and stumbled back her feet no longer able to support her and Cato caught her as she fell. "I'm bleeding," She mumbled.
"I know, you're okay." He said softly, she looked up into his bright blue eyes, she felt her vision blur. "Help, someone help me," He screamed out, "Just hold on okay? You'll be fine," He stroked her face, as tears started to fall from his eyes. She could hear what sounded like hovercraft and felt wind gust around them.
"I just need you to know," She mumbled, "I…"
"No," he said fiercely, "No grand declarations, that's for people who are dying and you're going to be fine so shut up." Lily closed her eyes, exhaustion taking over her. "Keep your eyes open Lil," he said and she struggled to flutter hers open. "Lil please I love you. You can't leave me, we're going home,"
"Home," She whispered, she thought of Kai before she felt the final bits of her conscious mind fall away from her and the last thing she remembered was Cato's lips on hers.
