Last chapter we found out Michael had long restored powers. This chapter we find out Lucifer has been experiencing a new surge of powers as well.

Lucifer sat on his throne, elbow up on the arm rest, staring at his hand. Little sparks of light came to life as he opened and closed it. He smiled as a little ball of fire came to life. He had his lightbringer powers back, at least a percentage. Enough to know he could conjure fire at will. It had taken him weeks to get this far with practice. A single ball of fire that sparked little life into his hand.

He tilted his head off to the side, confused as to what this could mean. Perhaps he was shedding all the evil out of his system. His beautiful white wings were back. Maybe he was pulling his angelic abilities back from the back of his mind.

Lucifer closed his hand, letting the fire die. He wanted to see if he still had his devil hyde. He closed his eyes and concentrated on his devil skin. He could feel the rough skin rub against his outfit. He didn't bother opening his eyes, he knew it was still there.

He clenched his teeth in frustration. He didn't understand why he had both sides of himself still present on his body. Was it a sick joke? Was it for protection?

Lucifer slammed his hand on the arm rest. He was irritated.

He opened his eyes and looked out amongst his kingdom. It was so dark and lonely. He missed Los Angeles. He missed the Sun. He missed its heat. He closed his eyes and imagined he was on the beach with Chloe. The cries of tortured souls turned into cries of seagulls. The light kisses of ash were replaced by a breeze that came with the beach. All he needed was Chloe.

The beach. That's what he kept saying in his head. The beach. He wanted to travel to the beach. If his powers were coming back, it meant he was able to project his energy anywhere in the universe. He could feel the Sun on his face, there was no lie about that. The cries for seagulls could be heard from a distance. He concentrated harder and thought of Chloe. The beach Detective, go to the beach. He whispered to himself.

Like a light of electricity, his mind shot out and searched for the Detective. He could feel his mind coursing through channels and vines. When it found its destination, he found Chloe on the beach alone. She was sitting in the sand with her normal clothes on. Her back was to him. He creeped up to her afraid if it was real. He hadn't done this kind of projection, ever. His shoe sunk into the sand as he walked closer to her. She looked to be crying. His eyes softened as he came around to the side. He wanted to get a better look at her. Her eyes were bloodshot.

He looked around and found where they were… the first place they kissed. The first place he landed in Los Angeles. He rushed over and dropped to his knees before her. She didn't even know he was there. She looked right through him as she stared out into the ocean. Oh Detective… don't cry. He reached out and cupped her cheek. I'm right here, darling. Her head tilted into his hand. His heart skipped a beat as he thought she could sense him. He smiled as he tried to whip away her tears. I'm here.

"I miss you, Lucifer… it's only been two days but I miss you…"

He pulled his hand away and looked at her face. Two days. It had been months for him. For a moment he had forgotten how fast time passes in Hell. He moved off to her side and plopped down on the sand with her.

He remembered how hard the first week was. He went on a killing spree… He wrecked this home when he finally got around to his feelings. It took everything in Lilith to get him to stop crying… He looked out onto the shore and kept his eyes focused forwards.

It gets a little easier as the time goes by Detective… he told her. He wasn't sure if it was a lie. His heart still hurt being so far away from her, but the rage of breaking everything in sight stopped. He figured that's what it meant for it not to hurt so much. When she didn't say anything back, he leaned onto her shoulder.

He wasn't sure how long they had stayed on the beach, but one thing was for sure, the sun was beginning to set. Chloe leaned over opposite of Lucifer and grabbed her socks and shoes. She was leaving. His face dropped, he didn't want her to leave. The cold breeze sent shivers down her body. She was starting to shake. Here take my jacket. He offered. He slipped it off his shoulders and wrapped it around her body. Stay Chloe… please.

Her face softened as he uttered her name. Did you hear me? She looked over in his direction and stared right into his eyes. He smiled as she finally looked at him. Stay… just a little longer.

Chloe pulled her gaze from Lucifer and looked out into the ocean. He wasn't sure if she heard him, but she didn't get up. She continued to sit on the floor and cling to herself as the ocean breeze nipped at her skin. He wanted to add heat, so he wrapped an arm around her shoulder. Let's watch the Sun go down, yeah?

It was a one sided conversation but he enjoyed just being there with her. As the Sun began to set, he realized he was working off of borrowed time. He pulled his arm away and rubbed his hand over her back. Off in the distance he could hear someone approaching.

"We've been looking for you everywhere… it's time to go home Chloe," Maze called out from the distance. Chloe sighed before turning around. Lucifer followed her eyesight and smiled at Maze. He wasn't sure if she could see him, but he was glad she was looking out for the Detective.

"I don't think I can move," Chloe whispered.

"Push up with one foot after the other. Babies could do it."

"I…" she looked over at Lucifer and then back to Maze.

"What?" Maze called out. Chloe shook her head and tried to stand. "There you go, see not so hard."

Lucifer's jacket slipped off of Chloe's shoulders and onto the sandy floor. Lucifer stayed rooted in the sand as he watched Chloe try to regain balance in her legs. Maze walked over and added some assistance.

"How long have you been out here?" Maze asked.

"I… I'm not sure… I was only supposed to be here for an hour… I must have lost track of time."

"You okay?" Chloe looked over at Lucifer and tired to understand what was going on.

"I'm not sure…"

"Your place or Lux?" With her eyes still on Lucifer as she answered.

"Lux please…"

Maze pulled her away and the two walked back to the car. Once the two were out of eye sight, Lucifer grabbed his jacket off the floor and stood up. He dusted off the excess sand from his bottom and jacket.

In a blink of an eye, he transported back to his body.

He opened his eyes and came back to Hell. His head was pounding. He had forgotten how much energy it took to astral project across dimensions. He gripped his forehead and closed his eyes. A small whiff of sea air touched his nose forcing him into a giggle. He'd done it.

He'd been tracking down his conspirators for over a year now. Still no luck. He had to admit it, they were clever. He wasn't much for detective work, that's why times like this he wished he had the Detective by his side. She would know what to do. He was at a dead end, no more leads. He pushed every evidence he had into the ground. He'd gone over multiple angles with Father Kindley and still nothing new came to life.

Whoever brutally dismembered the priest knew he would look into it. Lucifer slammed his fist onto the desk. He needed the Detective, he needed her outside thinking.

He hadn't seen her since the beach. When he came back, it'd taken him a few days to come back. He was afraid to travel due to his connection with Chloe. He could sense she knew he was there. So he kept his distance.

He took a seat in his chair and looked over the notes he had made on his elite demons. Traitors every last one of them. One way or another, each of them had gone behind his back while he was gone and ran this place to the ground. No one was in his corner.

Lucifer propped his elbows onto the desk and intertwined his fingers. He rested his nose on his right wrist and looked over his notes. Something has to be here, he told himself. What would the Detective do?

He must have been too lost in his own thought because the touch of Lilith's hand on his shoulders startled him. He dropped his arms instantly and looked over his shoulder. Lilith shot him a small smile and pulled up a chair besides him.

"You've been at this for days… I think it's time you took a break," she voiced. Lucifer shook his head and placed his hands over the many papers in front of him.

"I know there's something here, I just have to…"

"Staring at pieces of paper for days on end, isn't going to help you," she lifted his elbow signalling him to stand up. Lucifer complied and let Lilith mother him. She pulled him off his chair and over to his bed. "Clothes off, now," she ordered.

Lucifer rolled his eyes and refrained from making a sly remark. She was his dearest friend, nothing more. One by one, he pulled off his dress shirt and then his trousers. "Into bed. I doubt I should be telling you this."

"Yes, yes." Lucifer lifted the covers off his bed and got under the covers. "Do I get a bedtime story, Lily?"

"Don't push it, Lucifer." She turned around to leave but Lucifer stopped her.

"Stay please… if only to watch over me. I don't wish to be alone tonight."

How could she refuse him? Especially when he looked like a little kid under the covers with his head barely sticking out under the blankets. She sighed and walked back over to his bed.

"Bedtime story it is…" she said. Lucifer gave her a sad smile. "Having nightmares again?"

"More than I care to remember," he replied. Lilith sat at the edge of the bed, beside him. She ran her hand through his hair and pulled apart the hair product. Times like these she forgot how old he really was. He closed his eyes and let Lilith's warm hand lull him to sleep.

"Rest, I'll make sure nothing happens to you…"

Within seconds Lucifer let his mind settle and just relax. He could vaguely feel the touch of Lilith's hands. His mind went silent, he fell into bliss.

His mind fell down a dark tunnel that weaved and twisted through currents. When it finally found a source of light, he found himself on the stairs at the precinct. He was confused. He looked around and found the place busy. Interested to see if it was a dream or not, he rushed down the stairs and looked for Chloe's desk. When his feet hit the bottom of the stairs he noticed she wasn't there.

He turned around and looked over at Dan's. The man was bouncing back and forth between his desk and a work board. Curious to see what the Douche was working on, he walked over and looked at the board. It was your typical murder case. Dan had been running through scenarios left and right, the case was at a dead end. He stood before the board with his hands on his hips, just staring at it for a lead.

"Got anything?" Chloe asked. Dan shook his head as Chloe stood besides him.

"Nothing… you know we could really use Lucifer's help. You sure he can't pop by and…"

"Don't!" her voice was a little too loud and sharp. Dan jumped from her outburst. Chloe placed her hand on his arm and apologized. "Sorry… I… just please don't bring up the name…"

"Chlo… what happened? Maybe I can talk to him… Amenadiel and I could go…"

"Please Dan…" her plea was a whisper. Dan nodded his head and dropped the topic.

Lucifer stood off to the side and watched the Detective closely. She was upset with him. She was still hurting. He crept up closer to her and plopped down on a filing cabinet on the side of her. Dan had already left and she was standing alone, just looking at the board.

He reached out and grabbed her hand. It was a dream, he could do whatever he wanted, so he grabbed her hand and lifted it to his lips. Chloe paid no attention as her hand moved involuntarily. Once his lips touched the top of her hand… her eyes turned towards him. His heart skipped a beat, it was almost like she knew he was there.

"You'll solve this case Detective… I know you'll crack it," he whispered. She blinked in his direction and stared over at him. She pulled her hand back and walked closer to him.

"Can you see me?" he asked. She shook her head and looked down at his lap. "Do you want me to move?"

He got up and let her collect the contents he was sitting on. Her eyes lit up.

"Dan! I think I got something!" she yelled out.

Dan came running back into the area. He pulled the forms out of her hands and started reading the contents.

"Where did you find this?" he asked. Chloe shook her head.

"I… I called in one of Lucifer's favors… I… I know I shouldn't have done it, but she came through… I… shit. How long has this been on your filing cabinet?"

"That was on my filing cabinet?" he looked over and showed confusion on his face. "Officer Kyle must have placed it there this morning… shit! Chloe this means we have a lead." He was getting excited. Chloe showed a little hint of happiness on her face.

"Yeah… he… he came through…" she looked over towards Lucifer and gave him a smile.

Lucifer folded his hands together behind his back and smiled at Chloe. Was he upset she cashed in a favor, in exchange for a lead? No. He had no use for his favors. He was in Hell now. If she wanted to use up all his favors she was more than welcome. After all it was a dream.

The next thing he knew, he was being dragged off to another scenery. A puff of black smoke flooded the room, a white light shined on him. Lucifer covered his eyes as his new scenery came into view. The blasting of music came out of nowhere. People started bumping into him. It was a dance floor.

The loud rave music caught him off guard. Where was he? He looked out into the distance and found himself at Lux. He spun himself around and pushed people out of the way. Why was he at Lux?

When he finally managed to get himself out of the middle of the dance floor and found Maze at the bar with two glasses of alcohol in her hands. She plucked them off the bar and walked herself over to the V.I.P booth. Lucifer followed right after her. He knew the drink in her hand, that was Chloe's signature drink. Which meant the Detective was not too far away. Lucifer's heart sped up at the possibility of having another dream about his dear Detective.

"Here you go Decker!" Maze yelled over the music. Chloe turned around and smiled at Maze. She took a hold of the glass and began taking sips out of the drink.

Lucifer's heart skipped a beat as he looked upon Chloe's new hair do. She had forgone the highlights and gotten bangs. He couldn't stop smiling.

"To a new partnership!" Maze said, offering a cheer. Chloe gave her a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. The two clinked glasses and downed their drinks. "Come on let's dance!"

There was no room for debate, Maze pulled Chloe out into the dance floor.

"So just let me introduce myself… My name is Humpty, pronounced with an 'umpty…"

"Oh God! No! Maze no!" Chloe began to laugh at the choice of music. Maze began doing the weirdest dance to try and get Chloe to dance. "How can you even dance to this?" she yelled over the music.

"Easy… watch!" Maze spread her legs out and began moving her body to the background dance. "Do the humpty hump, do the humpty hump!"

"No! Maze no," Chloe laughed.

Lucifer leaned up against the booth and watched Maze try and get Chloe to dance. It wasn't going to work, Chloe wasn't a dancer. He watched as Maze stood behind Chloe and moved the Detectives hips for her. His ears perked up as he watched the two dance. That was new. Chloe was actually dancing to the weird choice of music. It was oddly attractive.

The music faded out and the DJ played a more current song for the crowd of people. Chloe and Maze laughed at each other and continued to dance. Time flew by as Lucifer kept an eye on the women. Drink after drink the two downed their drinks like college fraternity girls. Lucifer applauded the Detective, he hadn't seen her let loose in a very long time.

But then again it was a dream, she could do whatever she wanted. Lucifer sat besides the two and listened in on their conversation about Amenadiel taking over the bar and trying to be the next Lucifer. The Devil chuckled at that. Of all the people to take over the bar for him, he had not expected his brother.

The night went on and he could see the Detective was getting tipsy. Like the good demon Maze was, she cut Chloe off and started feeding her water. As Maze left to grab another glass of water for the Detective, a man slipped into the booth besides her and began touching her hand.

"Hey beautiful… I see you and your girlfriend have been having fun. Want to continue this back at my place?" Chloe tried pulling her hand away but the guy didn't let go.

"Excuse me?" Chloe said. She was too intoxicated to say much.

"Yeah.. come on we'll get you to a room." He lifted Chloe out of the booth, she was too disorientated to fight him off.

By the time Maze returned, Chloe was gone. She dropped the bottle of water and started pushing people out of the way looking for Chloe.

Chloe and her kidnapper managed to make their way over to the restrooms. He had her leaning against the corner with his hand reaching up her blouse. A firm hand gripped the man's shoulder sending him into a yelp.

"Ah!" he cried out.

Chloe opened her eyes and caught a glimpse of Lucifer sending the man across the room. Unable to compose herself, Chloe dropped to the ground. Her savior came up to her and cupped her face.

"You alright? Please tell me he didn't hurt you."

"Mmmm, fine," she replied back.

She could vaguely hear the sound of the bouncers talk to Lucifer. She looked around searching for Maze, but couldn't find her. Lucifer kneeled down in front of her and cupped her face.

"I take my eyes off of you for one second, you are shaping out to be more than I can handle," he chuckled.

"What's up with your voice, you sound funny," Chloe said, touching Lucifer's face.

"Right right," he corrected himself. "Better?"

"Much better," she smiled up at him. Lucifer lifted her up off the floor and told the bouncers to detain the Detective's assaulter.

"Chloe!" Maze came running up to Lucifer and Chloe. "Are you okay? Did he touch you? If he did I'll…"

"I'll handle it, get her up to the penthouse and watch her," Lucifer's voice thundered with anger. Maze was shocked to see him, but nodded her head and took Chloe away.

Once the women were gone, Lucifer fixed his jacket and turned to the body guards.

"Put him in the room and let me handle him," he said. The men nodded their heads and let Lucifer handle the man. They knew better than to question their boss. Lucifer walked into the room and smiled as he watched the man handcuffed in the chair.

"I turned my back for one second…" Lucifer shed his jacket off his shoulders and placed it on the chair. "You know the woman you tried to assault is the Devil's partner." The man's eyes bugged out scared. Lucifer chuckled from the man's fear.

Lucifer crouched down in front of him and drew the man's gaze to his eyes. The room started to shake as Lucifer's glare got stronger.

"You messed with the wrong person bub… after tonight…" he waved his hand around, "you won't be sane to walk the streets." The man started to thrash in his chair. "So tell me… what is your biggest most darkest fear?" His eyes flashed.

The room rang with a high pitched noise sending the man to shake his head in madness. The lights in the room flickered on and off. The man's screams were muffled from the noise of the music playing in the club.

.

.

Lucifer shot up from his sleep. He was in a puddle of sweat. He looked slid-to-side trying to find out where he was. Gaudium came running into the room along with Lilith.

"Easy… easy, my Lord," Gaudium said. He offered a rag for Lucifer to clean himself up. Lucifer gladly took the rag and whipped the sweat off his face. His hair was drenched.

"How long have I been asleep?" he asked.

"Going on ten hours, we tried waking you, but you were somewhere else…" Lilith said.

Lucifer grabbed his head and tried to compute what they just said. Lilith saw his frustration and kicked the ex-cherub out of the room. Once he was out of the room, Lilith sat besides Lucifer and placed a hand on his shoulder. She didn't mind the thin layer of sweat that lined his body.

"You astral projected, didn't you?"

"I've… yes," he nodded his head unable to form any words. He groaned as he moved his head.

"How long have you been doing this?" she asked, curious.

"A few months now…"

"Has it ever been this intense?" Lucifer made a noise similar to a no. He didn't want to speak or shake his head. "You need to warn me before you do this, I left you for a few hours unattended. If any of the demons found out you were in this state, they could have hurt you."

"I'm indestructible you know that." Lilith rolled her eyes and pushed herself off the bed.

"No you're not, not when you do that… are you okay? Because we have some pressing matters to go over."

"I'll be fine… what is it you wanted to talk about?"

"Gaudium looked into Barbatos…"

"And? Let me guess… he's a traitor?" he asked.

"He's dead…"

Lucifer let gravity take its course and sent him flying back into the bed. He couldn't believe the luck he was having. He threw the pillow over his head and yelled into the thing.
