Chapter 9: Shadow

I saw something in Richards head after possessing his body next day to help him and Professor Storm with the machine, he is having a conflict on his head siding with Johnny about maybe keep the team as superheroes mostly after his talk with Nick Fury, but also he felt guilty with Ben's condition, I felt awkward knowing that, as if things weren't awkward already after the Motocross X-Games thing, so I let them work together on the machine with my pointers rather than give them a hand as I feel uncomfortable now staying in Reed's body, besides I'm feeling more and more apart from the team being their "ghost" and staying in the shadow of The Fantastic Four.

"Emmet" - called out Doom entering the penthouse making Jagger turn from me and started to bark at him mad he looked at the dog without much care - "come on Emmet, I know you must be here" - he tried again

"Ok Victor, I'm here, what do you want?" - I say sighing knowing that I can't escape him forever about whatever he wants to talk

"How you been feeling?" - asked Doom

"Except for still being a ghost? I'm good, what about you?" - I ask as I see he is still wearing a bandage covering a part of his head

"I'm fine, listen I want to talk to you about the little project that Storm have going on" - said Doom with a look that seems concern but I'm not buying it

"The machine he is building with Reed to recreate the storm effect?" - I ask

"Why aren't you helping them? I think they need a better engineer on it than Richards, since he is not much of an engineer" - said Doom as matter of fact

"Because I can't get my hands on anything and I don't like being inside Reed's body for too long, but he knows enough to do it" - I explain

"But you are also part of the geniuses on this place, don't you think they are neglecting you a little bit around?" - asked Doom

"I think I can handle being neglected as I can't really help much or can't really do anything" - I said

"You know what I think? They are wasting your potential, but I will not do that" - said Doom - "look I have the rights of applications and patents, whatever they want to do belongs to me" - he explained

"But they are not done with the machine" - I said confused

"Which is precisely the point, analysis is over, it's time for action" - stated Doom - "my men could have mass-produced this by now" - he said

"You think we can get the machine done more quickly?" - I ask feeling a bit of excitement, for some reason whatever he wants to do seems wrong, but I can be back to normal which is not bad

"Re-create the storm, invert the polarity here and reverse the mutation there" - said Doom shrugging - "I'm not just a rich guy that got lucky with his last name, I've got the same PhD Professor Storm has, we'll build it while Storm check the specs and we get it done more quickly" - he explained

"We?" - I asked confused - "please tell me this not about what you told me on the space station, I can't handle that now" - I added and he just smirked

"I need your help, you can even possess the body of people on my team so you can give us a proper hand, besides do you know who trust in your talent here?" - said Doom - "Me" - he stated - "so, what do you say?" - He asked and I give a big fat minute thought to it - "Emmet? You still here?" - He asked concerned

"Yes, I was just thinking and..." - I trailed - "alright, let's do it" - I say

I know this might be a backstabbing move on the others, but I'm desperate to get this thing done for mine and Ben's sake as Reed and Johnny seem to be enjoying more and more their powers and maybe Sue, even she isn't shouting out to the world like her brother and I will not pry on her head to know more, also...maybe I can do take Doom's offer from the Space Station once I'm back to normal

So here I am in the body of some woman called Meredith who has good knowledge on engineering like me doing some coding for the machine while some people are building it around, when Professor Storm, Sue and Reed have a discussion about it with Victor he used almost same words like he did with me but spitting more venom at them as he seem to be on the edge and according to Leo it has to do with his company losing support after the Space Station incident and the popularity of The Fantastic Four.

"Can I talk to you?" - said Sue in front of the table I'm working

"Sure" - I say rolling my eyes and step off the table walking with her

I notice that my hips are swaying, damn this woman is more sassy than me, I add copying the muscular memory to things I can do inside someone's body as I walk in heels pretty good with this body and I seem to be using the same mannerism she use.

"Don't let Victor push you into making a mistake" - started to say Sue

"He was going to take away all the data and equipment anyway Susie" - I say crossing my arms over my chest arching an eyebrow to her

"Better than your life, Victor is not the one who has to get into that thing, we are" - complained Sue

"Which is why I'm helping more closely, checking every variable" - I said to her and she's about to add something but I beat her to it while flicking my hair with my hand before speaking and putting the other hand on my hip...well Meredith's hip - "I'm not the only one in there, is also you, Richards, Ben, Johnny, all rattling around" - I say

"Fine, I'm just warning you Emmet, Victor can be...too much" - warner Sue

"I know Susie, I been working with him this last 5 years without counting the time of The Blip" - I said

"Just...don't let him get to your head" - said Sue before walking away

I roll my eyes and go back to work, I have no time to lose, I see Richards, Professor Storm and Sue pitching some stuff over Victor who seems annoyed but listen to them and by afternoon the machine is almost done, Professor Storm had to go out to do something while Reed and Sue seem to have sneak out to do something as well, they seem more preoccupied with each other than working on this, maybe is because Reed wants to propose to her...something I learned inside his head too.

"Emmet, the machine is done, have you finish the coding to transfer it to the machine?" - asked Doom standing in front of me

"I hope so, because if I see another number again I might as well just break my diet and have a bunch of pizza and ice cream" - I say and then frown confused as Victor - "sorry must be Meredith's thought...anyway" - I click on the space bar of the computer to transfer the coding and get out of her body before I lose myself inside of her

"Doctor Doom? How long I have been out?" - asked Meredith

"Quiet sometime, but you helped Emmet with the machine" - said Victor

"Very much, I miss so much have a physical body" - I say feeling my ghost body and it felt like I was missing something, I look down and realize that my hands are over my chest...no more possessing a woman's body for too long.

"This was so weird...but I don't remember anything" - said Meredith

"You can go Meredith, in fact I think all can go" - declared Doom

"Thanks Doctor Doom" - said Meredith standing up - "oh wow...I need to stretch, did I even stand up from the desk?" - She complained

"Sorry, I guess I can't feel anything in this "ghost form" and seems to go both ways when I'm inside someone else's body" - I explain

Meredith just nodded before slowly walking away just like the rest of Doom's team as we look at the machine, I need to be more careful entering someone's body seems like I forgot the feelings of that person since I don't feel much as a "ghost"

"Wanna give it a go?" - asked Victor to me with a smirk

"But shouldn't we wait for Reed, Sue and Professor Storm?" - I asked confused

"I think you have waited long enough Emmet" - said Victor

"Well...there goes nothing" - I said

I walk into the machine and tell Victor when I'm inside so he can close the door, I feel the engine of the machine going knowing that maybe he have started, there is a blinding light going around me it really looks like the solar storm, I didn't even bother to close my eyes as the light didn't bother me as "ghost" but remember that maybe I'm gonna be back to normal, so I close them in case they hurt my eyes once I'm back.

Suddenly the machine stops working and I slowly open my eyes, I look at my hands and they seem to be back in flesh, it worked...it really worked! I'm back to me, the door opened and Doom stand in there with expectation and I step out running towards him surprising him with a hug excited to be back, ok, I missed human contact as well.

"Seems like we didn't need Storm and the lovebirds after all" - said Victor with a smirk

"Yeah" - I say looking down at me still amazed...but then my face changed when my body started to flicker between normal and "ghost" again and I step out of Doom

"What's going on?" - asked Victor looking confused

"Fuck...it didn't work" - I complain - "I think we still need something...but I'm not sure what" - I say

"What do you mean you don't know what?" - asked Victor

"It means that I don't know" - I answered incredulously

"YOU MUST KNOW" - growled Victor as the lights flicker around us

"WELL I DON'T" - I countered and walked away to the elevator, I don't want to push my luck using my powers getting trapped between floors and kill myself doing it

I was so worried about being a lab rat for Professor Storm that I didn't thought that Victor just wanted me to be one as well, he was so gentle offering to help and reminded me of when he asked me to be with him on the Space Station, even he was a prick doing it, I thought since Johnny and I may not happened I could give it a try with Victor...but the world is full of douches all around and maybe I'm one too after the dick move of helping Victor but without no result...once again: fuck my life.

A/N: Well folks there is a lesson to this chapter: no matter how nice it sounds the offer or how hot is the guy giving you an offer, don't take it, it might just go the wrong way, now Emmet knows he can't trust Victor, but does the others know that too? We will know on future chapters.

Also we have another cameo, in this opportunity we have miss Jessica Alba who played Sue Storm in the 2005 film.
