So first of all, I want to apologize for how long this took to get out. I am currently writing my Master's Degree Thesis at this time, so that is eating a shit ton of my time, but the main reason this took so long is because I was just filled with a shit ton of writers block. I did not know how I wanted this chapter to go, mostly because it is all explanation at the end of the day, so I apologize in advance if it's a dull read.
Thanks to Tim the Vocalist as always for beta reading and supplying me with his characters Jason and Em for this story, as well as everyone who has read and reviewed so far. Enjoy the chapter!

XxXxXxX - Flashback - XxXxXxX
The sound of the shattering white-board made Nayru and Anabel both flinch, as Looker's fist began to bleed from the splintered cracks digging into his knuckles. Heavy breathing came from the senior officer, who was attempting to calm himself down before turning back to Wes, though this did not seem to work as the sound of his voice had a manic tone behind it. "So let me get this straight... you found Giovanni, extracted the information that you needed from him... and then he escaped!?"
"That's correct", Wes replied, nodding to confirm the recap that Looker had breathed out. "A sandstorm suddenly came out of nowhere, and when it ended he was gone."
"That is unacceptable!" Looker suddenly roared, glaring at Wes. "Once you told us that you found his location, I told Lance that we would have him in cuffs by the end of the day! By failing to apprehend him, you have-"
"Looker, please", Anabel muttered, barely catching the attention of the other officer. "Wes must've been caught off guard by the sudden attack, but at least he did manage to gather all the data on Mewtwo." She was typing furiously on a laptop, reviewing the information that Wes managed to secure within the PokeDex application of the Rotom-Phone. "Astonishing, honestly, that science could even create something like this."
"That's not the POINT!" Looker furiously spat. "Mewtwo aside, this arrest warrant for Giovani has been active for almost as long as I've been here! We came so close to finally closing the case of Giovanni, only for him to slip from our grasp yet again!"
"And is yelling at me really going to fix that?" Wes sternly replied, glaring a bit. "I told you before, I had managed to knock out his Rhyperior, but I did not even see him pulling out another Pokemon, and trust me, we were keeping an eye on him. He must've already had it out, despite the fact that I think we caught him by surprise before arriving... perhaps he was acting for a bluff... still, my primary reason for finding him was accomplished, and if Lance has a problem with me not arresting him, he can take that up with me! I got so much information on Mewtwo that I am sure he would be satisfied with knowing what exactly lives just outside of Cerulean City."
"Terra should've been able to keep track of him in the sandstorm!" Looker shot back, countering Wes' story. "A ground-type is not as affected by the move sandstorm, so why didn't Terra go after him!?"
"As I told you before, Terra rushed towards the entrance we came in through", Nayru replied instantly. "According to what he said, Giovanni must've anticipated Terra doing that, since that seemed to be the only way out of the cave. Once Terra moved towards the entrance, Giovanni dashed towards a wall and seemed to vanish into it. When we investigated the wall, we found that the rock covering was a fake door, but by the time we managed to open it, he was gone. His brainwaves had vanished, more than likely too far out of range... perhaps due to him having a flying type with him that he used to escape once he reached the outside, as the pathway lead towards just outside of Viridian City."
"So either he is back in Kanto, or is trying to throw us off by doubling back towards Johto", Wes stated, staring straight into Looker's eyes. "I dispatched the two squads that came with me appropriately, and I relinquished full control back to you when I arrived here."
"Their story has not changed", Anabel stated, watching them. "So, I do not have reason to suspect they are lying to us, Looker... not that I doubted them in the first place." Anabel grinned nervously, quickly adding that last part as she saw Wes look over at her.
Looker sighed, pacing back and forth for a moment as he grabbed his hand to prevent the blood from dripping onto the floor, "As upset as I am that he escaped... I am glad that you managed to get the information on Mewtwo. I will take over the hunt for Giovanni, he must not have gotten far... meanwhile, you will go back to hunting for Jason... though, I will be reporting this to Lance, and you will have to deal with that fallout if it comes to that, understand?"
"I can take whatever Lance has for me", Wes replied confidently, bowing before turning towards the door and heading out of the meeting room, Nayru following after him. As soon as they were away from the room, however, Nayru let out a loud exhale as if holding her breath for an eternity.
"That was too close", Nayru thought to Wes via telepathy. "I thought for a moment that I would not remember the cover story... still, you've always been a good liar when you need to be, master... maybe you rubbed off on me."
"You flatter me", Wes thought back to her. "Good call on the telepathic communication, though... I don't fully trust that they wouldn't eavesdrop on us. I know what I did was technically wrong, considering Giovanni is a wanted man... but, dealing with the more threatening Giovanni is much more important, and honestly... the arrest of our Giovanni isn't my issue."
"Knowing them, they're just upset their best cop didn't do their mission for them", Nayru joked, before frowning as she realized that Wes wasn't heading towards the machine that kept the Ultra Wormhole portal open for them. She turned to Wes and now spoke normally. "We're not going back into Ultra Space?"
"Not until we train first", Wes replied to her. "We're going to Cerulean City to really test out what Giovanni has told us about Mewtwo."
At that, Nayru stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes widening in fear. "Wait, don't tell me... we're not heading where I think we are heading, are we?"
Wes turned to Nayru, before nodding and checking over his PokeBalls. "Get ready, Nayru. We're about to see what the Mewtwo of our universe is capable of."
XxXxXxX - End Flashback - XxXxXxX
"You see, a snivy's scales are pretty much the exact same as the leaves you'd find on a tree or a bush", Jason explained, running his fingers along Snivy's back, knocking off more of her scales from her body. The trio of humans and Nayru had found their way back to the hotel, and while two rooms had been booked for the night, the once-missing trainer was making good on his promise already, having been talking about the grass snake pokemon for quite a while now.
"And like the leaves on most seasonal trees, they do dry up and eventually fall off. If you keep her groomed, then she won't be distracted by her old scales itching her body up, and that'll help her unleash her moves much more effectively." He then handed the female snake back over to Kris, and a ghost of a smile graced his lips. "Though you may want to be gentle... it seems like this one is a little ticklish."
"Th-thank you", Kris muttered, retrieving her Snivy just as Wes approached. Jason had turned to him, a frown etched onto his face as the officer held out a hotel key card to him.
"Your room", Wes stated, as Jason retrieved the card. "I figured you would want your own accommodations."
"Yes, thank you... officer", Jason caught himself, deciding that the hostility he was displaying towards Wes all this time wasn't needed. It was obvious the amnesiac was a bit distracted by his own thoughts, but he chose not to voice them as he walked towards the stairs. Before Wes could follow after him, however, he felt his arm get grabbed by Kris, who was glaring at him a bit.
"You told me you'd answer all my questions, remember?" the student shot at him. "So, I'm going to ask them again: If that guy is your teacher, then why doesn't he remember you, and where has he been all this time? Additionally, he acts so weird, like the Jason that Cheren and Juniper told us about, instead of the changed man that taught you... so, what's up with that?"
Wes and Nayru exchanged glances, and at once they realized that they weren't going to get out of this one without telling her the truth. So, with a deep sigh, Wes gestured her towards a table in the hotel lobby, and upon taking their seats, he sharply cleared his throat before talking. "Remember how I told you about my early trainer days? Where I was a young boy, going to school with a girl?"
"Yeah", Kris nodded, recalling the first time they met. "But that doesn't explain anything."
"It would if you just listened to what I have to say", Wes shot back, giving a sigh before continuing. "Well, Jason was a student teacher at the school I was attending. He and I... well, we really didn't get along at first, I was a troublemaker and, being my teacher, he really couldn't let that fly, so I got in trouble a lot. Eventually, we gained mutual respect for each other, even if neither of us wanted to admit it. By the time that respect was established, Alola was under threat by creatures known as Ultra Beasts."
"Ultra Beasts?" Kris asked, unable to keep herself from interrupting again. "What are those?"
"You've actually already seen one", Wes explained, pulling out his Rotom-Phone, which was displaying a picture of a Beast Ball. "Do you remember this?"
"Yes", Kris said with a shutter. "And I am telling you that thing is no Pokemon I've ever seen."
"Well, that's because it's a Pokemon known as an Ultra Beast", Wes explained to her. "A Pokemon from a space between dimensions known as Ultra Space."
"Hold on a moment here", Kris held up her hand, staring at Wes in total shock. "You mean to tell me that alternative dimensions exist, and you're just going to give me that information like it's nothing? Don't you have some sort of system in place that punishes you for mentioning police sensitive data to someone that isn't involved? Is knowing this information going to get me arrested if I-"
"First of all, you're the one who asked", Wes cut her off, glaring a little at being interrupted again. "I am only telling you all this because you're already involved with Jason and I, and have already seen Amethyst. There's no harm in telling you about Ultra Space or the Ultra Beasts, and besides, it's not like you're going to go blabbering to anyone and everyone about this. Not like most people would believe you anyway if you told them."
"Fair point", Kris muttered, hardly being able to process the information Wes was telling her.
"Anyway, once Alola was under threat of the Ultra Beasts, Jason ran off to deal with the threat, but I couldn't just stand by, so me and Rose decided to take action", Wes continued. "We ended up reconvening with Jason at the Altar where we summoned Solgaleo, the Legendary Pokemon of Alola and an Ultra Beast himself, before diving into Ultra Space and fighting against a light consuming Ultra Beast known as Necrozma. We managed to defeat it, but..." Wes trailed off for a moment, before sighing deeply and continuing. "We were weakened, and being chased by more Ultra Beasts, so Jason sacrificed himself and stayed behind to make sure me and Rose escaped Ultra Space. Afterwards, I joined the International Police's Ultra Recon Division and began to hunt for Jason in Ultra Space, while learning about the true horrors of that place."
"What do you mean?" Kris asked.
"You've kinda already seen the effects for yourself", Wes explained, gesturing up like he was referring to Jason. "His memories are gone, and he became terrified of his surroundings. If you think Amethyst is scary, wait until you see some of the other horrific creatures that dwell within that realm. Solgaleo and Lunala, the other Legendary Pokemon of Alola, are the only Ultra Beasts that even really look like actual Pokemon, the rest just seem like creatures of absolutely terrifying power."
"You don't want to fight a Guzzlord", Nayru said with wide eyes. "And before you ask what that is... you don't want to know!"
"It's that terrifying?" Kris asked, stunned at the look of absolute terror that was drawn on Nayru's usually calm and collected face.
"It will eat your dreams and make even the bravest of Pokemon cower before the mighty wrath that is the black pumpkin monster", Nayru spoke in almost a trance like way.
"Anyway", Wes said, wrapping an arm around Nayru, who fell against his shoulder muttering 'Please don't eat me, Mr. Black Pumpkin man', "Unless you have any other questions, I think that is about all you need to know."
Kris thought for a moment before something came to mind. "Actually, I do have one. If there are other dimensions out there, does that mean another 'me' exists out there?"
Wes nodded, "There is a strong possibility. I don't recall ever seeing you in my travels, but different dimensions cause more then just timeline changes. For example, in another universe, I could be a girl, but most of my other traits could be the same. In another, I could be exactly like how I am now, only older and having been a Police Officer for different reasons."
"Wow..." Kris gasped in shock, before suddenly another question sprang into her mind. "Wait, one final question, then we can head upstairs... if there are other dimensions, and there are people that can cross into other dimensions, does that mean that people that live in this dimension now can be someone from a dimension that isn't this one?"
At that, Wes gave a small snort, before he looked right at Kris with an unreadable expression, standing up to full in order to begin heading back to the room they had rented for the night. "Yeah... you're looking at one of them."
XxXxXxX
Kris groaned a little as she opened her eyes, sleep not coming easy for the young trainer that night. Sunlight was peaking through the curtains, hinting to her that it was morning. Every time she fell asleep, she dreamed that she was being chased by a black pumpkin, and cursed Nayru mentally for giving her that image. With another groan, she sat up and began to stretch, before walking over to the window and opening the curtain to let the sunlight in, just as she heard the bathroom door open and Wes emerge.
"Rough night?"
"No thanks to your explanation", Kris muttered bitterly, sighing. "I can't believe you're originally from a different dimension... so, did you get a chance to visit your original home?"
"Sadly no", Wes stated. "I was looking for Jason, remember? And being chased by an evil man, but that's a story for another time."
"Wait, what evil man?!" Kris asked, turning to face Wes, but when she did, she could see that although the boy had pants on, his was lacking a shirt, showing off his upper body which was tone and fit, rippling a little with muscle. A few scars adorned his chest, and it looked like a six pack was threatening to emerge from his abs. Kris became scarlet, covering her face to prevent herself from checking her teacher out any longer, though her fingers did have a slight gap in them that didn't cut him from her eye-sight completely. "P-p-put a shirt on, dammit!"
Wes looked down, unsure of what the big deal was as an expression of confusion donned his face, though he did as requested and reached over to grab his shirt and tug it onto his head. "You're going to be facing Burgh today, right?"
"T-The Castelia City Gym Leader, yeah", Kris confirmed, lowering her hands now that Wes had a proper shirt on, though since his red hoodie wasn't on Kris could still see some of his muscle, which didn't help her blush, the image of her shirtless teacher still floating around in the back of her mind. "He uses bug types, which I have Chimchar for..."
"He still doesn't know any fire-type moves though", Wes pointed out. Kris deflated a little at that, and Wes gave a bit of a sigh. "You really need to take your Pokemon Training a little more seriously from now on, understand?"
"I'm taking this seriously!" Kris shot back, glaring at the accusation. "I just haven't had time to train my Pokemon any because of the whole Jason situation! Wasn't it you that insisted we come here as soon as possible, only to whisk me into finding Jason and a chase when he ran away from those cars honking in the city? I would've been training then if it weren't for you!"
Wes blinked at that, and a feeling of guilt rushed over him. She was completely right, after all, Wes had indeed taken her off her training course once they arrived to find Jason here, and her lack of training was only because Kris didn't have time to between her venture at the Virbank Gym and now. "You're right... I'm sorry."
Now it was Kris' turn to blink, shocked that her teacher was actually apologizing to her. "You... well, thank you, apology accepted... I just dunno what I am going to do."
"I should thank you for helping me out with Jason", Wes replied, taking out his Rotom-Phone. "Being in the International Police does have some perks. I have access to a database that allows me to teach Pokemon some new moves, even ones that can normally only be tutored onto a Pokemon by an expert. I think I remember seeing... ah, here we go, Fire Punch."
"Fire Punch?" Kris asked, looking shocked. "I didn't know Chimchar could learn that move!"
"Well, it's usually only available by move tutor for the Chimchar line, so you're lucky I have access to the database", Wes commented, holding out his head. Kris put her Great Ball into his hand, and a few seconds later, the phone beeped, indicating a successful move tutor. "There you go... also, your Chimchar's ability is Iron Fist. I'd consider yourself lucky if I were you."
"It's... what?" Kris asked, the millionth question that seemed to come from her mouth since waking up.
"An ability a Pokemon can have that boosts the power of punching moves", Wes explained. "For the Chimchar line, it is their Hidden Ability, a rare ability that can be on a Pokemon. I have a few Pokemon with their hidden ability myself, for example my Blaziken has Speed Boost, Terra has his which is Rough Skin, and Yue has hers which is Cursed Body. Either way, Iron Fist will boost the damage that Fire Punch does, so I could count your blessings."
Kris grinned widely at that, before nodding and giving a small bow. "Thank you, senpai! I'll be back from my gym venture before you-"
"Shouldn't you go shower and get changed first?" Wes asked, and Kris gave a small, sheepish giggle at the brain slip, before grabbing her clothes and slipping into the bathroom where Wes just was.
"She called you senpai again", Nayru muttered from underneath the bed sheets. "I guess she's happy with you again after this whole Jason thing."
"I guess so", Wes replied, sitting on the second bed in the room and looking at lump on the bed that was Nayru underneath the covers. "Were you awake the whole time?"
"I woke up for part of that exchange, when she yelled at you for not giving her time to train", Nayru replied, shifting a little so that the covers moved. "So once she's done with this, I believe we will be heading to Route 4 and Nimbasa City?"
"Yeah", Wes nodded to confirm her question. "We will need to stay in Nimbasa for a few days. According to a report I got, there's been quite a bit of Plasma activity there, plus where the city is will allow easy transport to anywhere else should we need to head out. It'll give Kris time to train up, while at the same time allowing us to work with Jason a little and see if we can trigger any more memories to return."
"Do you think we can do that?" Nayru asked, sitting up and looking at her master worried.
"Those drivers who were yelling at one another yesterday triggered him to remember something", Wes commented. " And when I mentioned his Serperior and Volcarona, he remembered their nicknames immediately."
"I'm surprised he didn't see Blake and immediately glare at you", Nayru giggled.
"Give it time, I'm sure that'll happen should he remember the 'shiny Eevee incident'."
One quick shower later, and Kris had sprung out of the bathroom, and only gave Wes a happy wave before dashing off, with all her stuff in tow. Wes, realizing that it'll probably not be long until she defeated her gym challenge, decided to just start getting ready to head out now, grabbing his belongings and heading to the room next door, where he gave three sharp knocks. "Jason? It's time to head out. Kris shouldn't take too long with her gym battle, so we can go whenever you're ready."
Wes expected a reply of 'give me some time to get ready' or 'just wait downstairs in the lobby' to come from the door. He did not, however, expect Jason to immediately come out of his room, and just mutter a simple 'ready'. The boy looked worse then he did when Wes found him yesterday; the bags under his eyes had increased in volume and his emerald irises looked vacant, almost as if longing to close but unable to.
"Did you sleep at all?" Wes asked.
"Sleep is for the weak", Jason replied, almost nodding off. He quickly pinched his hand hard, forcing his eyes open again and leaving a bruise on the back of his hand. "If you sleep in Ultra Space, you die."
Wes immediately realized the situation he was in. Jason, who's suffering was much worse then his was in Ultra Space, was inflicted with a much worse case of PTSD then Wes had now. While both trainers faced the same challenges within the twisting void, it was Jason who had to endure it non-stop, while Wes always had an out. Even when he was suffering from his memory loss, he did so with the comfort of the International Police facility and Rose, while Jason did not have the same luxury. And while there was the benefit that his paranoia kept him ready to run at a moment's notice, it was not worth the fear and insanity it brought on him.
Wes did not reply to this. After all, how could he say anything that would help Jason get some sleep, especially since they were on a tight schedule? Sighing, and realizing that Jason would just have to endure his suffering for a bit longer, at least until they got to Nimbasa City, Wes only gave a sad nod.
"What is this?" Jason asked as he brought his hand up a bit, and when Wes looked down he recognized the smart phone that Jason had three years ago.
"That's your phone", Wes commented. "Though I don't think it'll work anymore. Leaving a battery uncharged for three years probably killed any chance of recovering it..."
Jason blinked in confusion, looking down at the device. "Then... why do I still have it...?"
"We should probably get you a Rotom-Phone", Wes replied, and at Jason's confused look, he continued. "It is a smartphone that is enhanced after being possessed by a Rotom, and the device can host a multitude of functions and applications, including a Pokedex. They came about as an upgrade to the Rotom enchanted PokeDex. Better yet, while we wait for Kris, let's go get you one."
Jason only huffed at that, following after Wes while dragging his feet, confusion at his situation eating away at him, but curiosity about what this 'Rotom-Phone' was. It was very possible that the idea of a Pokemon-enhanced device was the only thing keeping him going at that moment.
