The sudden screams coming out of Arizona's room had made Bailey's heart drop to the floor. They had come out of nowhere and had sounded almost hysterical and sent shockwaves through her body. When the Chief had come running through the door, ready to deal with every possible terrible situation, she was met by a bright smile on the Latina's face.
"She moved!" Callie screamed, her face filled with tears of joy and excitement.
"Wait, what?" Bailey asked, knowing she couldn't have come out of her coma without them having reversed it.
"I was just about to say goodbye when...when she squeezed my hand. It wasn't a strong squeeze, but...I, I felt it."
"Callie…" the Chief sighed. "You know patients can have reflex movements from the limbs, but they don't actually react to others or can come out of the coma."
"I know, but...but it was a real squeeze." the brunette whispered and the tears in her eyes had turned into tears of disappointment and sadness. Callie had stopped trying to hide her emotions a long time ago. She had learned that most of the time, it was best to be honest about her feelings and not to let them be stuck inside her.
"I know you really want her to move and interact with you, but I think it's best to make her stay the way she is for at least a few more days."
"But…" the Latina argued as her tears escaped her eyes. "...her, her saturation levels are above 90 already. Don't you think you can wake her up?"
Bailey sighed. It was hard for her to see Callie that way, but Arizona's body had needed more time. The reactions her body had shown had been quite intense and concerning to the doctors and risking waking her up again, just for her condition to become worse, wasn't anything they had wanted. There was nothing the Chief had wanted more than to wake her up, but she wasn't ready.
"No. At least not yet. Give her a few days, okay? We don't want to risk anything. Arizona would say the same to you if she could." Miranda smiled and stroked the brunette's hair softly.
"I guess you're right. I just...I miss her so much. I've been away for so long and now that I'm here it's…it's so much more complicated and even worse than before." Callie said with pain in her voice.
"You're going through a lot, Callie. Be with your daughter and try thinking about something other than your wife for just a little while, okay? I know all you want to do is to be here by her side, and you can and should do that, but you need to be with your daughter too. We'll wake Arizona up soon, I promise."
"Thank you. Thank you, for everything you do." Callie smiled softly.
"Of course. Let's take a test again and then go and see your daughter." Bailey smiled back at her and opened the door again.

Two hours later, the test had come back negative and Callie was finally free to go. The thought of seeing Sofia again had filled her heart with joy she hadn't felt in a long time, and when she had finally stepped inside her house again, the feeling of being home had overwhelmed her. It felt so good to be back home and even though she had already spent a night back at their house, it hadn't felt the same because it was late at night and the only thing she had needed was her bed. Dropping her keys, the Latina headed straight to the kitchen and prepared dinner for Sofia with the things which had still been in the fridge. She had found all the ingredients she had needed and decided to cook Spaghetti Bolognese. Her daughter had always loved that dish, and what better way would there be to welcome her sweet girl? Callie hadn't seen her daughter in so long and she couldn't wait to be in her arms again. The Latina had just prepared dinner when the doorbell had rung. Her heart skipped a beat and in less than a few seconds, she had opened the door and saw Sofia and Meredith standing in front of her.
"Mama!" Sofia screamed and ran into her mother's arms. It had felt amazing to have her daughter's little hands around her again and a part of her never wanted to let her go again. They had stayed in a loving hug for a while when she felt Sofia pulling away a little.
"Mama, you're hugging me too tight."
"Sorry, sorry." Callie laughed. "I just missed you so much." the brunette smiled and pulled away from her. The two had completely forgotten they hadn't been alone all this time until Meredith cleared her throat.
"Oh...sorry. I just...we missed each other." Callie laughed nervously.
"Hey, no, it's all good. Zola's waiting in the car so I have to go soon." Meredith said and smiled at the reunited girls in front of her.
"Thank you so much for taking care of her. I don't know what I would've done without you." Callie said and pulled Meredith into a tight hug. Now that she was home again, she could share the bubble with Mer and the kids as well.
"Of course. We're like family." the blonde smiled and stroked the Latina's back.
"Mama! Let's go inside. I'm hungry!" Sofia interrupted them.
"You can go in, I'll be right with you."
"Okay."
The little girl had gone inside and dropped her school bag on the couch and sat down at the dinner table. The food her mom had made looked delicious, and her tummy had growled loudly at the sight of it. Sofia was happy to be home and to be with her mother again, but one parent was missing. Her mommy, Arizona. Meredith hadn't told her much about her mom's condition, but she was old enough to understand things hadn't been very great. Meanwhile, Callie and Meredith had talked some more before the blonde had to go.
"How are you dealing with all this? Do you need help with anything?" Mer asked, concerned about how Callie was feeling.
"I miss her, even though I see her every day. I miss her smile and her cute dimples when she laughs and I...I miss talking to her." Callie sighed. "You've already done so much for me, Mer. The only thing I could think of is maybe you taking Sofia a few times if I happen to be at the hospital while she's not at school?"
Meredith's heart had broken for the Latina. She knew what it was like to feel hopeless and defeated, but this had been even worse than anyone could have ever imagined. Arizona had reacted terribly to the disease and there was nothing they could do, except wait. "I'm so sorry, Callie. I wish I could help you. I have to be at work as well, but I can pick her up from time to time when I'm picking up the kids."
"That would be amazing, thank you!" Callie smiled happily.
"Mom!" Sofia screamed again and caused the two women to laugh.
"I should go."
"Me too. See you soon!"
"See you, Mer."
-
Dinner with her daughter had been amazing and everything she could have dreamed of. Her little girl had been nothing but sweet and kind to her and their conversations had included everything they had both missed from each other's lives for the past few weeks. Callie smiled at Sofia, but when she hadn't returned the smile and looked down on the floor, the Latina had become nervous.
"What's wrong, mija?"
"I miss mommy." she sighed.
"I know you do. I miss her too." Callie smiled with sad eyes and reached out for her daughter's hand to stroke it softly.
Sofia slowly lifted her gaze and looked at her mom. "When can I see her?"
"I don't know, honey. Right now is not a good time."
"Why?" Sofia asked.
"Because she's...she's really sick and could get you sick as well and mommy wouldn't want you to see her like that." Callie explained, hoping her daughter would understand.
The little girl's eyes had filled with heavy tears and before she could stop them, they had fallen down her soft cheeks. "But you see her too."
Callie sighed loudly. "I can't risk you getting sick and mommy is really weak and she sleeps all the time."
"Has she...talked to you?" Sofia asked with tears streaming down her face.
"Baby, shhh, it's okay." Callie said and got up to pull her into a hug. The Latina wrapped her arms around her little girl and stroked her hair softly. "It's going to be okay."
A few very hard days had gone by and with each passing day, the sadness and the need to talk to her wife had gotten worse. Callie cried herself to sleep every night and talked to the sleeping beauty every single day without getting any reaction. They still hadn't reversed it, but Callie had known that fighting Bailey wouldn't make any sense. She only wanted what's best for Arizona and even though Callie hadn't agreed on everything, she had known her wife was in good hands. A week later, the Latina and her daughter had sat down in front of the TV and watched a Disney movie together to think of something other than school or their problems. Callie had enjoyed the warmth of her daughter's little body against her own and felt a rush of love going through her. Sofia was the greatest daughter she could have ever wished for and made her life complete in every way. About an hour in, the brunette's phone had started ringing and when she had taken a closer look, she realized it was Bailey calling.
"Hello?" Callie asked.
"Hi, Callie. We're about to wake her up. I thought you might want to know and come over?" Bailey said.
"Oh my god, really!?" Callie asked with excitement in her voice, causing her daughter to listen to her instead of watching the movie.
"Yes, her saturation levels are up to 95% and she's been in there for a week. It's about time we wake her up. Can you be there?"
"Yes, of course! I'll be right there. Please, wait for me."
