Hello, guys. Well, that is it. Now is the time to finish this story, so here we go.

NOTE: If you're a little confused after finishing reading this story, THEN PLEASE read my AN at the end of this very chapter. Thank you.

Enjoy!

Longclaw was lying on the ground, not being able to move... and barely able to breathe.

Tails was also sad, no doubt about that. He didn't want to witness this at all, either.

But the amount of devastation that Sonic felt, the amount of sorrow and despair that was contained inside him, the amount of regret from not being able to save her - was just unfathomable.

But he tried to at least hold her in his arms.

"Longclaw... I..." he attempted to form a sentence, anything, that would explain... that would explain at least something...

"Sonic..." Longclaw said, her voice being completely calm, having accepted what she knew was going to happen, "...oh, I'm so sorry..."

Sonic didn't know how to respond to this.

"Don't be..." he said, hugging her.

He then realized he never got the chance to tell her everything he had experienced on Earth.

That made him feel even worse.

He didn't want to feel like this.

"Longclaw..." Tails then came up to her, sadly.

"Yes, Miles..." the owl softly replied.

"Thank you for saving my life," was all the fox said, in the same sad tone.

"You're welcome..." she said to that.

Sonic wished, so dearly, that there could've been another way that Longclaw could have saved both of their lives.

Not like this.

Ever since he was a baby, Longclaw meant everything to him.

Then, he was suddenly separated from her, with the excuse of staying safe.

He spent the next ten years genuinely believing she was forever gone - first being horribly devastated by that, then accepting it later on.

Then, he was taken back to his own world, only to discover that his guardian is still alive - something that just overwhelmed him with all kinds of emotions.

And he barely even got the chance to tell her how he feels, before...

This.

It was so unfair.

He sighed in pure sadness.

"At least I got to see you again..." he said, trying to convince himself that there was at least something positive about this.

"You did..." Longclaw added to that.

"I never got to tell you how it was like for me on Earth," he told her.

That was when Longclaw realized just how devastated Sonic felt having to go through this.

He had promised to tell her his whole amazing story that she genuinely wanted to hear, and that he was genuinely excited to tell her.

And now... he will never be able to do that.

Now she too felt the same way he did.

"Seeing how happy you have been to have a chance to tell me," she spoke to him, calmer and calmer, "I guess your time there was great. Am I right?"

"Yes, you are..." Sonic barely said, letting out a smile.

Which, unfortunately, didn't last long.

Longclaw then put out one of her wings, which Sonic knew he would have to take.

Whichever the next she said, he knew it would be her last words.

So, he listened carefully.

"Sonic... I love you. And you can have full trust in me when I tell you that I am no less unhappy to see what I will soon be than you are... But this was bound to happen to me... Maybe not like this... Maybe this could have gone a lot less painfully... But sooner or later, we all go away... I want you to know... And I want you to take it into you as peacefully as possible... That you have to continue your life without me... That you would have to continue it, no matter how I went to rest... I know you can do that..."

Sonic couldn't bear listening to this, he was crying uncontrollably. "I love you too, Longclaw," he said, hugging her even tighter.

He was hugging her as tight as possible, knowing this would be the very last time he would ever do that.

"Goodbye, Sonic..." she whispered, as she closed her eyes for the last time.

Sonic just stared, in complete devastation, at the body of his guardian, who was no longer with him.

"Goodbye... my guardian angel..." he whispered.

Finally letting all of his tears out, without holding back at all.

Tails came right in front of him to hug him, feeling the same way the hedgehog did.

"Now what?" the fox asked sadly.

"I don't know, pal," Sonic answered, not knowing what to do next.

Then, he figured out he should do at least one decent thing in their guardian's honor.

"Maybe we should give her a proper burial," he suggested.

Tails nodded.

And the two lifted Longclaw's body up, holding it in their hands, to take it out of this horrific place...

On an unnoticeable part of a large grass field, not too far from a beach on Emerald Hill, there was now placed a tombstone.

A certain hedgehog and a certain two-tailed fox were standing in front of it, feeling inconsolable that they had to put it there.

The tombstone read:

Here lies Longclaw,

the most loyal, devoted and caring creature Mobius may have ever seen.

She made this world such an amazing and wonderful place.

She will be missed by all who she took care of.

Rest in peace.

Sonic and Tails kept standing in front of this tombstone - even though they barely had the emotional strength to do so - and were free to let all their tears out.

"Why did it have to be like this?" Sonic still wondered, and embraced the fact that he would be wondering this for some time.

He and Tails then hugged each other once again.

Both of them knew the pain would last for long.

They then turned their heads to the beach nearby.

A lot of kids, probably around Tails' age, were playing a lot of silly things.

At least those kids didn't have to be frightened over anything.

But neither Sonic nor Tails were up for anything like that right now.

Instead, Tails remembered that Eggman had said the fight between them wasn't over yet.

"Um... Sonic?"

"Yeah?" the hedgehog responded, completely out of mood.

"We have to make up a new plan to stop Eggman," Tails said, in not a much brighter tone either. "He'll be back sooner than we think."

Sonic didn't say anything to that.

It didn't feel okay for him to think that still mattered. Even though it did.

"I'm sorry, Tails..." he then answered him, "...I don't feel like doing anything right now..."

He then looked away from the kids playing on the beach, to what could be seen in the distance.

South Island.

Where Sonic lived as a child.

And where Longclaw took care of him.

Now he could no longer look even look at that island without bursting into tears.

There was no possible way of comforting him right now.

So he closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.

Tails, being smart as he is, realized why it hurt Sonic so much to even look at there at this moment.

And therefore:

"You can stay at my place if you want," he suggested, which caused the blue blur to reopen his eyes.

He looked at the Tails, and genuinely considered the fox's suggestion in his head.

Then:

"Okay," he said.

So they both went in a direction away from the beach, more specifically where the fox's workshop was.

But Tails came at the entrance of a small house not too far from the workshop.

That must've been his house.

"Come in," Tails said, opening the door.

Sonic went inside this house right after the fox did.

It was a nice-looking place and everything, but Sonic was really only interested in one thing right now.

So he asked Tails:

"Can I go to the roof?"

Tails found that question a little weird, but given what the two had just gone through, he wasn't surprised if the hedgehog did something like that as a coping mechanism, or something. So:

"Okay, sure," he answered.

"Thanks," Sonic said, getting to do that, managing his way up to the house's rooftop.

Sitting on the roof, he sighed, taking a good look at the much bigger part of Westside Island that he could now see.

The view he had from this place was just as astonishing as that of Green Hills, from the roof of the Wachowskis' house.

The Wachowskis...

He completely forgot about them.

He sighed again.

Keeping watching the beautiful landscape.

Strangely enough, he enjoyed every moment watching this sight.

Soon, the Sun started going down.

Which meant he would have to go to sleep, sooner or later.

But he stayed on the roof until after the Sun had completely set.

And he did not go back inside the house afterwards.

Because suddenly, he was too amazed by the starry sky, just like the night before.

Eventually, he decided it was time to go to sleep.

Going back inside Tails' house, he noticed that the fox had already made a bed for him, just next to the window.

"Oh... Thanks, buddy."

"No problem," Tails replied, already tired. "I'm going to bed. Good night," he said, going to his own room.

"'Night," was the last thing Sonic said that day.

And considering how peaceful the blue blur had been with himself just moments ago, one would expect he would fall asleep in the same manner.

Instead, one entirely different thought crossed his mind.

"I shouldn't have done this," he thought.

Maybe he should have stayed on Earth.

Maybe he should've declined Tails' offer to go back to this world. No matter how alluring it sounded.

At least he wouldn't be heartbroken, the way he is now.

"Now what?" was his last thought before he drifted off to sleep...

THE END

AUTHOR'S NOTE (FOR THOSE WHO ARE CONFUSED THAT THIS IS THIS STORY'S END): The thing is, in the whole bunch of rumours about what might happen in the live action movie sequel, one of those bunch of rumours was - that it might be a trilogy! I'm not even sure where I heard/saw that, but I vaguely remember seeing something like that. So the way I wrote this story was that it would have an unhappy ending - just like you can see it did - and then the potential third movie would have Sonic come to his senses and finally execute a plan that defeats Eggman for good (kinda the way the original Star Wars trilogy played out, no?). So, what I wrote in this story was only what I would write as the second installment in the trilogy.

And I'm really sorry, I have no clue how I would have the third movie play out.

But anyway, I hope you enjoyed this story!

To everyone who has read this story completely, PLEASE let me know whether you found this to be a good story on its own, AS WELL AS whether you think this is genuinely what you would like to see happen in the sequel to the 2020 live action Sonic movie.

And as for the cast, I would have the same cast as for the first movie (even for Longclaw and Tails), with the addition of Jason Segel as Knuckles (sorry, some portion of fans, not The Rock) and Justin Timberlake as Metal Sonic. That is all.

Well, that completes this story! Thank you for reading, and I hope I'll see you around. See you!
